It is once again Toilet Tuesday, and we are once again bringing you all this week’s newest jams. Hans, Karhu, Lacertilian, and I have picked out some heavy, nasty tunes to destroy yourselves with this morning/afternoon/evening, and that nastiness drips down into the list for the week. If you’ve been craving some heavy new tunes (or metal Christmas music for some reason), this is your week.

Death Toll 80k – Step Down (Svart Records) [Deathgrind]
Listen

How many times can you hit repeat on your Insect Warfare record before craving something slightly different? Ha, trick question, but if you happen to be looking for the very next best thing, look no further than Death Toll 80K. This smashes your head in just as relentlessly and boasts a similar dual vocal approach, but most importantly, it doesn’t neglect to throw in some fun riffs amidst all the chaos. 11/17/17 (Hans)

Northless – Last Bastion of Cowardice (Gilead Media) [Sludge/Post-Metal]
Listen

Northless have long had a talent for combining toxic, leaden riffing with heart-wrenching melody, and Last Bastion of Cowardice is no exception. It’s incredibly heavy in all respects, from its revenge gone wrong concept to the thick, grimy production to the music itself. If you like your sludge to be well and truly sludgy, then this is the album you need. 11/17/17 (Spear)

Aosoth – V: The Inside Scriptures (Agonia Records) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Her Feet Upon the Earth, Blooming the Fruits of Blood”

The menacing French amalgam return with what is quite possibly their strongest collection of dissonance-laced death yet. V: Inside The Scriptures certainly seems like the logical progression from 2013’s acclaimed IV: Arrow In Heart; however, the songs presented here feel a little less abrasive, more concise, and perhaps more focused as a result. While there are still some vestigial ambient passages nestled between the scathing sinister sermons, the album’s acerbic atmosphere is almost entirely derived from the combination of BST’s bitter riffing sensibilities and MkM’s vitriolic vocals. If you’ve enjoyed Aosoth’s previous work, V: The Inside Scriptures will provide you with a fitting close to the series. 11/17/17 (Lacertilian)

Godflesh – Post Self (Avalanche Recordings) [Industrial Metal]
Listen to “Post Self,” “Be God”

Justin Broadrick isn’t one to repeat himself. Where A World Lit Only By Fire explored the path trod by Streetcleaner, but with complexity and technicality beyond, Post Self looks for the less metal side of Godflesh. Inspired as much by post-punk and earlier industrial as it is by metal, Post-Selfies is an album unlike anything he’s ever done. Yet the riffs are crushing as hell, even if the atmosphere may not be quite as suffocatingly heavy. One of Godflesh’s better, and more intriguing works for certain. 11/17/17 (Karhu)
