Win a T-Shirt and a Cassette from HEAVY TEMPLE

Philadelphia old-school doom crew Heavy Temple have a brand new EP dropping on Friday and to celebrate, you get a chance to win a copy of it on cassette AND a brand new T-shirt to gird your sweaty torso. All you’ve gotta do is answer a trivia question.

Do you like stoner metal, The Dark Tower, and free shit? Man, is this your lucky day! Heavy Temple’s latest EP Chassit is chockfull of heady, dank jams that belong in your cassette collection right next to the Pentagram and Sleep tapes in your bitchin’ Ford Aerostar. You’re gonna blaze these nugs over an extremely loud sound system, so we’re helping two of you guys save some money on merch that you can instead spend on bigger speakers. Because Heavy Temple likes Stephen King so much that they incorporated some story elements from The Dark Tower into Chassit, they want you to answer a trivia question to win some sweet gear:

Which gunslinging Spaghetti Western actor was the main protagonist of the Dark Tower modeled after?”

Two lucky stiffs will win Chassit on cassette and a Heavy Temple t-shirt. All you’ve gotta do is answer the trivia question and email your answer to me with the subject line “HEAVY TEMPLE RULES” at toiletovhell@gmail.com. I’ll select the two winners at random from all the correct answers I receive. The deadline for submissions is 3 PM CST this Friday, January 27th. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWER IN THE COMMENTS OR YOU WILL BE BANNED.

Stay up to date with Heavy Temple on Facebook and get all the latest details on new music and tour info!

      Here’s a helpful hint…

If you post the correct answer, Joe will ban you. Ha! 😉

So, uh, how y’all feeling about that upcoming Dark Tower film? I think we can discuss that without giving away a hint/answer.

    • Elegant Gazing Globe

you already gave a hint to the answer in the post

      • Rain Poncho W.

        that’s not my name.

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

at least I read the post this time, right?

          • Rain Poncho W.

            lolz

I’ve always thought this track from Alice in Chains would work well with a Dark Tower film. The lyrics are pretty fitting.

I honestly know nothing about the upcoming Dark Tower movies (I didn’t even know they were making any), though I will say that I don’t think it’ll be easy to capture the magic and grandeur of that series in a feature film.

      • Rain Poncho W.

I was never huge into AiC, but I enjoyed some tracks from that album well enough. As far as the film goes, it looks to me like they’re trying to center the story on Jake rather than the Gunslinger, which is an odd choice.

        • Howard Dean

Hmm, yeah that’s really odd. I won’t talk too much about characters, but I don’t really see how you focus a movie on anyone besides the protagonist and still stay true to the series. Maybe it’ll be like a Neverending Story version of the series, with some kid reading copies of the book in an attic somewhere and identifying with Jake. Hahaha.

I think Black Gives Way to Blue is one of AiC’s best albums. Jerry and company came back with a vengeance when they dropped that bad boy.

          • Rain Poncho W.

Black Gives Way to Blue was certainly better than The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, from what I recall. I think i only listened to that album once.

I think BGWtB is a better album overall, but the production on TDPDH makes it a more enjoyable listen.

          • nbm02ss

I’m not even sure that makes sense, but I’m working on very little sleep this week, so….

          • Rain Poncho W.

Is the staph keeping you up?

          • nbm02ss

The stress of being a potential first time home buyer. Fun times.

          • Rain Poncho W.

Joe will gladly hand you a beer and tell you, “Don’t do it.”

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

            it’s great once you’re in

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

BGWtB is AiC’s second best album imho. Only after the almighty, unfuckwithable, one and only:

I am all kinds of skeptical because of all I have heard so far, but praying to the man jesus that it turns out well. I think I heard rumors of a Wizard and Glass mini-series, but surely it won’t happen if this movie bombs.

All the people involved keep saying “it’s a good thing we aren’t doing a straight adaptation, because fans would hate it for not being as good as the books.” But I’m like… nah. I want this whole story in movie form.

I’m reading The Wind Through The Keyhole now for the first time (I forgot it existed when I started rereading the series, so I read 1-5, now going back to 4.5).

      • Rain Poncho W.

I really enjoyed the Wind through the Keyhole.

        • Joaquin Stick

Loving it so far. Pretty much anything that gives more detail about the Good Man wars and mid-world backstory are my favorite parts of the series. Also seeing RD before he is… hampered is always a treat.

      • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

I just started reading the series in the beginning of January, and I’m already on the third book. I’ve never read something so fast in my life.

What are they saying about the movies? All I know from the cover of the books is that it is “soon to be made.”

        • Joaquin Stick

Like W. said, people have said it’s very Jake-centric, and I think I heard it takes place mostly in NY (our world), and Eddie and Susannah aren’t even in it. So mostly I am just really confused as to how they are telling the story.

    • Lone Biker of the Apocalypse

I think Matthew Mcconaughey can make a great Man in Black, and while skeptical at first, I think I’m OK with the guy playing Roland…if it’s got Stephen King’s blessing, how can I argue (even if I always had some other actors in mind)?

I also am worried about how they are mashing up the first few books of the series into one movie…it took me until book two to get really into the DT series. Worst case is some atrocity like the Queen of the Damned movie from the Anne Rice series.

      • Lone Biker of the Apocalypse

Also, how bad-ass would it be in the later movies if Anthony Hopkins reprised his role of Ted Brautigan from when he did Hearts in Atlantis?

  • Sobotka

Had me and Old School…and Ford Aerostar!

  • “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed.” What a goddamn epic opening line.

    • Howard Dean

      FUCKING BAN THIS GUY

      • Black Smallbeard

        Hah!

  • Black Smallbeard
    • This is fucked. Gonna try to feed my cats spaghetti.

      • Black Smallbeard

my cat eats some weird people food sometime. the doctor said i couldnt give her raw chicken anymore tho 🐔🙀

        • I have to put the cats in the garage when I’m cooking chicken. Spent 10 minutes getting clawed to death trying to retrieve my raw chicken breast after one went rogue and snagged it off my cutting board.

          • Black Smallbeard

wat my cat think she look lik wit a rawe chikn brest

Stories like this make me especially glad I have a dog with really short legs and the inability to leap onto counters.

          • Sir Kookaburra The Based

Dogs with short legs can jump surprisingly high. My oldest corgi can get shit that’s at least in the middle of the kitchen counter, so everything must be next to the wall.

          • Waynecro

My dog is a beagle-dachshund mix. Although his legs are short, he’s a pretty good jumper. I guess he just knows that he’s not supposed to jump on the counter. He’s a very good dog.

          • Sir Kookaburra The Based

The other two never even try, but the oldest one has always been trying. It’s rare that he gets anything.

          • Waynecro

I usually give my dog cooked-chicken scraps when I’m portioning my chicken breast for the week. I guess he realizes he doesn’t have to break the rules to get his poultry fix.

      • Waynecro

My dog fucking loves ramen noodles.

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

    Gimme my prize plz.

  • CyberneticOrganism

I’d love to win that cassette, but have no player through which to blast it.

  • Waynecro

Thanks for another sweet contest, Joe.
