Volumes – On Her Mind (feat. Pouya): A Video Breakdown

The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Mixing genres is not a good idea. Mixing genres when you’re not particularly good at any of them is even worse. LA’s Volumes have been blending metalcore, djent, nu-metal, and rapping for almost 10 years (Jesus. Really?) to the delight of the Warped Tour crowd. When they’re not fighting with security or each other, that is. Now they have a new music video and have brought along rapper Pouya for the ride. Sadly, they did not ask the band Puya to collaborate as well. Let’s see how this goes.

0:06: Ugh.
0:10: Gross.
0:17. Gunna vom.
0:21: Jesus Christ.
0:28: For fuck’s sake.
0:37: Shit.
0:46: Piss.
0:53: Shitting piss.
1:00: Pissing shit.
1:09: Fuck.
1:15: Fuuuuuuuck.
1:22: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
1:31: Quack. Quack. Quack! Quack! QUACK!
1:35: Fuck me dead.
1:40: Fuck me sideways.
1:51: The children aren’t our future.
1:59: The way things are going, there won’t be much of a future anyway, so no biggie.
2.05: What a waste of water.
2:13: It’s like “Can’t Hardly Wait” if everyone was reprehensible and had syphilis.
2:23: You just got shot with the Herpes Gun.
2:30: I think this video just made me extra straight edge.
2:38: Somewhere there’s a parole officer shaking his head in disappointment.
2:45: Probably a whole lot of parents shaking their heads too.
2:56: Rolling Rock must be thrilled to have their product included in this video.
2:59: *cough cough cough*
3:08: Apparently, the weather in LA is extra greasy tonight.
3:17: I would strongly recommend everyone watching this get tested for various STDs.
3:26: “Yucky!”
3:31: That moment you realize you’re in a Volumes video.
3:34: And now the pool has pubic lice.
3:40: That video did not have enough bass players.

Volumes new album Different Animals is out on June 9th via Fearless Records. Remember to always use protection when having sex.

“Ugh” is correct. And not the good, Tom G Warrior kind, either.

    • Jay Riemenschneider

      Let the ding-a-ling swing, Ross.

  • Joaquin Stick

I don’t think this has ever been said about anyone before, but here it goes: They would be better if they just went back to being a mediocre djent band.

Like this isn’t good by any means, but at least the chorus is kinda… pretty?

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

See above comment as stated by the magnificent EGG

    • Jay Riemenschneider

      “mediocre djent”

That’s a bit redundant. You could have just said djent. Already implies the mediocre part.

      • Joaquin Stick

Not really though. Pretend “mediocre” means something is a 5/10. Then saying something is a mediocre version of a mediocre thing makes it a 2.5/10. That’s what I meant.

    • sounds like Periphery when they were gud.

  • Hip hop and metal hardly ever mix with any success. Bands keep trying to do it and it continues to produce crap results.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Which is a shame because I’d really like to hear it done properly.

      • It helps when you have someone who can rap and not some squeaky dork who can’t rhyme worth a shit.

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

          That’s a fact.

      • Doom Scientist

This soundtrack is the best example.

        • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

I wonder if any other film has been so secondary in interest to its soundtrack? I mean, I remember it being fun and all, but… yeah.

          • Doom Scientist

I barely remember the movie, wasn’t that great.

          • Garden State. I can’t remember anything about the movie other than I hated every character.

          • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

I don’t remember much about it myself other than it being one of these mental illness as a “charmingly” quirky plot device affairs. I suspect I wouldn’t get too far with a rewatch. Soundtrack looks like a kinda neat indie time capsule though.

          • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Does have a wicked soundtrack. For me its a stone cold classic film overall though.

          • more beer

Yea but I still think it is remembered more for the soundtrack.

        • Depechemodeisgangsta

I enjoyed the Baby Got Back from throwdown because they kept it simple

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Indeed so! I’d just like to hear a project/actual band that works, you know? Body Count almost counts but IceT really isn’t rapping, per se.

      • Jay Riemenschneider
  • Waynecro

If Herpes Gun isn’t already a band name, it needs to be one.

We can try and sometimes we fail, don’t worry, we’ll never fail like Volumes: https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e543dc21c2a7eb6f5f88beee7ddae3949e184d53e0fce5fdd2fd88ede2c14e94.gif

of all the different volumes, this should be 0

  • The Mighty Thorange

Yeah, this band is shite but I taker issue with your statement that mixing genres is bad. It depends on the talent of the band in question and how they manage to meld two genres together. One of my favourite sub-genres is folk metal for instance, and bands like Faith No More switch-up and meld different styles together all the time.

  • Hans Moleman

NOOOOO not this again! Why does this keep haunting me?

Oh right, cause I spend all my time on ToH and the friendface group. Nevermind then, this one’s on me.

  • Hans Moleman

Also, how is no one in that video wearing this jacket. Point deduction right there. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9bd63cfb335f20c0e8af371c9cb908917fae8e2fae602ba6df980d8f711f26b4.jpg

I back Pouya as a rapper, but please stay within the confines of your genre please

  • NDG

Thrasher need to focus their “don’t wear our merch” campaign on these guys rather than Justin Biebs.
