Did someone say “Riffy, Catchy Melodeath”? Because that’s what Beyond the Dark heard, and boy did they ever answer.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Melodic Death Metal for as long as I’ve been familiar with it as a genre. It has always seemed like an overcrowded sub-genre to me, with piles upon piles of extremely similar-sounding bands and only faint glimmers of hope to be found tucked away beneath the jewelcase mountain. So naturally, it’s always a very welcome surprise when I come across a band that knows how to write melodic riffing that’s catchy AND has copious amounts of what I’m failing to describe with anything other than UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH(!!!).

Beyond the Dark are the fresh new face of Italian Melodeath, ready to unleash their new, blistering EP upon the unsuspecting bystanders. I’ve been able to hear these three songs and all I can say is: MORE. Unspoken is twelve minutes of blast beats, dual guitarmonies, air-fist-along choruses and quite a decent amount of blackened tremolo melodic goodness.

All of this is evident in today’s track premiere; “Retune Your Mind” is the fastest and most aggressive cut of the three, leaving little time for you to think about anything other than headbanging and air drumming uncontrollably. Don’t take my word for it, use your ears!

I’m definitely keeping my sights on Beyond the Dark, and so should you: like the band on Facebook for more news regarding the release of this EP which is due out on July 23rd, and check out their Bandcamp page while you’re at it!

Is it bad that the second I hear the word melodeath to describe something I lose interest?

This has a lot more going on than just melodeath, methinks. I’m not a big fan either but this sounds promising.

    • yeah cause this is p rocket!

    • more beer

No because It does the same thing to me.

I was gonna name my Psychedelic Death-Stoner Metal band Mellow Death, but the name has already been taken.

This is quite killer. Don’t let the “Melodic Death” label scare you, the most melodic thing this could be compared to is imo The Black Dahlia Murder, smart songwriting, catchy riff, very dynamic and also fast and heavy for a Melodic death band
