Great show guys, enjoyed the balance between serious discussion and laughs. Randall even managed to only incite the odd tsk, instead of the usual calls for banishment. Y’all will surely be getting the call up for the award ceremonies this year.

Everyone in that room could be flushed into the void of sspppaaaaahhhhaaaayyyyyyccceee and I’d be just fine.

  • Lethal Shöck – “Evil Aggressor” is the most transparently thrash name I’ve seen in a while.

    • There’s even a line in the song demanding “to thrash and kill”

      • Celtic Frosty

I noticed that line and was disappointed when you didn’t address SINCE IT’S YOUR FUCKING NAME

      • D A M N

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Lethal Shöck is my kinda jams.

This Meshuggah talk makes me sad.

        All of them are.

        • Excellent.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

          • Haha, just tell me to…

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I would say leave the hall, but I know you are neither a wimp nor a poser.

          • You can’t say “leave the hall” in defense of Meshuggah either

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            GORAK LIKE MESHUGGAH TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • DON’T DOX ME BRO

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

you guys should just broadcast Mr In Your House instead of mouthing riffs

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

lyrical content aside, GBK writes some sweet riffs

    • There are ten billion bands with sweet riffs. Do you wanna give your hard-earned money to anti-Semites?

      • Elegant Gazing Globe

Personally, I don’t give them my money, but it certainly seems like the controversy they generate helps create awareness for them, that most likely has trickle down effect into someone bank account

        • I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that bank account when they’re the headlining act of a festival

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

I can’t imagine any of the bands performing at this festival are getting rich from the fee they’re being paid, but if there was a festival with an audience profile that would be least offended by them, this seems to me to be the one.

          • Whether they intend to or not, every band on the bill is making a political statement by supporting this.

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

I thought hot take week was over?

          • Asking that people take responsibility for their actions is not a hot take.

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

Suggesting that every band there is complicit by way of performing their art at the same place at the same time sounds pretty fucking hot. Maybe I’m just misinterpreting what political statement is being made.

          • When you are silent on injustice, you’re implicitly guilty of committing the same crime.

By playing the fest with a well known openly anti-semitic band, the promoters and the bands are implicitly stating they don’t have a problem with this.

You know what isn’t full of racist and/or nazi douchebags?

            power metal

          • except for that one NSPowerMetal band you showed me

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

            plausible deniability?

          • GBK has made a career of this. It’s well known.

This isn’t like Inquisition where they’re MAYBE NAZIS BECAUSE WHO KNOOOOOWS??

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            And Inquisition sucks anyway.

          • They’re not Riot and they don’t play Thundersteel, so I have to agree

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            I agree with this statement.

          • RJA

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Just my opinion bro.

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

Honestly, I had no idea until that HD post two years ago. Never spent a lot of time dissecting the lyrics, mostly just headbanging to the riffs

          • Needing plausible deniability seems awfully spineless

          • Yes! they were! I think they put that in the past and have moved on by this point though

          • Figuring that some of the bands need to perform to maintain a living, the financial aspect of performing likely trumps whatever disapproval they have over the headliner. The same argument could be made for working for a tool-bag misogynist of a boss given the need to support your family. Sucks either way, really.

In the end, if you cannot create all the things you need to live in life, you have to work for someone.

Which doesn’t mean we all cannot still oppose such ass-hatery. Which I think we can all agree on.

          • more beer

From marketing perspective, This actually pretty smart. You have a controversial band headline. Anyone who is there for any other band. Gets to see their band and doesn’t have to stay for a band whose beliefs they are not good with. Those who are cool with it stay. Plus it’s metal no religion should be taboo!

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

When black metal began to rise, it was always about being more “evil” than the others, in a very edgy sense no less. As unfortunate as it is, the whole anti-semitic thing is kind of a logical next-step for the people who wholeheartedly wanted to be a part of that.

I think that is a big reason as to why more people are okay with racist material in bm, regardless of whether they agree with the sentiment or not – and don’t mind giving their money to openly anti-semitic persons.

As for the fest – it’s the kind of music they book, perhaps the promoters enjoy their music, and they’ve proven that they can pull a crowd and for many people (perhaps much more than you realize) that’s enough for it to be okay.

    • Should be an interesting show this Sunday.

      • Abradolf Lincler

        very jelly

        • I’ll take pictures/videos and send them to you.

          • Abradolf Lincler

      • Elegant Gazing Globe

Let us know how they’re received by the crowd

        • I’m sure very well. There has been a lot of hype over this set. Their CD’s sold out twice over at Hells Headbangers ever since they got confirmed for this show.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Still pissed about that! Hopefully they’ll have some more copies.

          • Howard Dean

You can still get copies of GBK CD’ss domestically at Ominous Domain, Moribund Cult, Salvation Distro, Forever Plagued (they have copies for cheap), and even Amazon. Internationally you can pick them up at Drakkar and a bunch of others in Europe. Use MetalDetektor to see a big list:

          • Abradolf Lincler

you can also order them directly from the band

(though i can only highly recommend ordering from Drakkar and Noktu!)

          • Howard Dean

I’ve never ordered directly from the band, but from what I’ve heard they are reliable. They used to have a bunch of different shirt designs on their official page, too, if I remember correctly (I don’t buy metal shirts, but for those interested who do).

          • Abradolf Lincler

they arent far from me locally. but i have not ordered directly from them either

          • Haha, Amazon surprises me once again.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Looking forward to seeing a band that literally never plays live.

EDIT: Them and Revenge back to back!

        • I think I’m looking forward to Revenge the most. James Read on the drums is going to destroy me.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Going to be fucking savage!

          • Dubbbz

            James Read >>>

          • more beer

I’m jealous for a change. I want to see Revenge!

        • NUKE RULES!!!

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

My record should be here soon.

  • Dubbbz

I actually haven’t listened to any Pantera since the White Power thing. I still own their stuff, but it’s lost the appeal for a lot of reasons, beyond just Phil’s douchebaggery.

    • I’ve felt the same way about Destroyer 666 now. I bought like 4 of their albums after Wildfire came out and then the shit hit the fan and I can’t bring it to myself to listen to them at all anymore.

      • Abradolf Lincler

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

I like D666, I like Burzum, and I like GBK. I like riffs. I don’t know any of these bands personally. I don’t give a shit if I ever know them. But I like riffs. Simple as that. And it will always be that way.

        • I’m moving further and further away from being just okay with “good riffs.”

As many bands as I don’t have time to listen to already, I can ignore the handful of racist bands and spend time with the NOT douchebag bands

  • Celtic Frosty

That new Mesarthim album is so fucking good.

  • Abradolf Lincler

i mean, its not like GBK is the only band on the lineup with NS beliefs. they just happen to have name recognition and never play live (as pointed out below).

    • We mentioned intolitarian

    • Profanatica are just a racist as GBK. There is a youtube video out there somewhere with the drummer/singer spewing out the N-word over and over again between songs.

      • Abradolf Lincler

i wanna say that some of those dudes in Angelcorpse are borderline there too

      • That is disgusting to me

  • Howard Dean

Order of Nine *Angles* –not Angels.

    • Sorry, thank you

      • Howard Dean

No worries. Like the first six times I saw that name I read it as “Angels,” too.

        • In hindsight, seems silly to name your satanic / racist organization after angels

    • Dubbbz

I read a little about this yesterday. There are a lot of very interesting (alleged) connections between Satanism and unsavory behaviors/attitudes in the UK. It seems a wholly different beast there, with (again, alleged) political ties that seems distinct from the intellectual way it’s often presented in the US.

      • Howard Dean

It is pretty odd and interesting how Satanism and right wing politics conflated in the UK, particularly in the 1980’s. They don’t seem like natural bedfellows, but I think they both had “outlier” statuses and stitched together a common ideology for the sake of solidarity (it’s particular evident in the O9A’s growth in that decade).

  • Waynecro

Great show, bros! Dude, I’m pretty interested in that list of bad band names. In the early 2000s, I was in a crappy metal band with nu-metal tendencies. I’m pretty sure this band had a song titled “Xtinkshun.” I couldn’t handle all that edge, so I quit.

  • 365: “Please don’t make me listen to a Melvins album.”

Richter: “I legitimately hate Monster Magnet.”

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      Why not both?

  • NDG

That’s the first show I’ve listened to…entertaining stuff.

I enjoyed the discussion around GBK but I think the way anti-Christian sentiment (as opposed to anti-Semitic sentiment) in metal was swept away as acceptable was pretty flippant. Correct me if I’m wrong but the main logic was “it’s ok because it is an established religion with a large number of followers”. I dunno, I’m pretty sure Christians wouldn’t be cool with that.

For the record I am not a fan of GBK or Christians or religion but I always find this discussion interesting and I’m always intrigued where people are prepared to draw the line regarding what is acceptable and what is not.

    • Howard Dean

And the pass given to anti-Christian aesthetics is generally not extended to anti-Islamic aesthetics in metal (which is starting to pop up in scenes across the globe), even though Islam is the second largest religion in the world with an established, deeply rooted worshiper base in several continents and is the foundation of tons of regional cultures. Anti-Islamic metal has quickly been looped in with “racist” and “national socialist” metal, de-legitimized and pushed to the fringe. Which is really too bad (and hypocritical, of course), as there is certainly a lot of fodder in that religion, and it would offer a fresh perspective for new bands to square off against (I think we can all agree that the anti-Christian thing is really tired and dull at this point–they barely even fight back).

    • Stockhausen

As a Christian,I’ve never been offended by heavily anti-Christian agendas but I’ve definitely had the same thoughts. An obvious example is Behemoth’s “Christians to the Lions;” if it was called “Jews to the Lions” or “Muslims to the Lions,” that would have been an instant firestorm.

    • The logic wasn’t to say it was ok, it was more to explain why it’s more accepted. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

  • J.R.™

Rand insulting Kamelot like that….hurt me less than I thought it would. I think I am finally a Man.
