Toilet Radio talks SATAN with Nathan Gray of BoySetsFire

Share:

The BoySetsFire and Nathan Gray Collective vocalist drops by to teach us how to successfully crowdfund an album, the benefits of worshiping Satan, Ben Affleck’s terrible Daredevil movie, and make fun of MAGA chuds. ALSO, Joe and 365 discuss a pug-fronted death metal band, Wrestlemania, and Danzig’s awful new music festival. IT’S A GOOD ONE, FOLKS.

Music featured in this program:

BoySetsFire – “Management vs. Labor” from Tomorrow Come Today (Facebook)(Amazon)
Nathan Gray Collective – “Anthemic Hearts” from Until the Darkness Takes Us (Facebook)(Bandcamp)

    • Yeah, we def talk about this

Haha, I just listened to that part. This dude’s face may haunt my dreams, but I must admit that he has some legit financial acumen.

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

I’m going to buy the new Wintersun album, not this fucking garbage digital package. Physical presales don’t start till May though

  • Loafy D

That must be a mute pug cuz me and my brotha’s scream like banshees

    • Franklin only screams when he wants the cats to play with him or I’ve personally wronged him by putting him in his crate.

  • Pentagram Sam

I posted it a few days late in the Brenocide post, but this might be the most successful part of their 3 part campaign to fund their retirement.

Even counting The Fleecing Seasons release, that’s 2.5 releases in 14 years. What are the next two steps in the campaign gonna be? Two more albums? So that means they’ve been sitting on multiple albums of material this whole time Time was fucked with? (had to do a Time pun I’m sorry it’s too easy) If so, then shitting out two albums in less than a year really dilutes the Wintersun catalog.

Soooooo, what does that leave for the nest two steps? Really, the reason this was so successful was new music. I don’t really see THAT many people throwing wallets for outtakes or demos. And they already blew their load digitally with the Fleecing Seasons package.

Who knows? I’ve spent way too much energy thinking about something I won’t buy.

I kinda hate myself for just recently (last year or so) realizing that I really like post-hardcore. I’ll just have to find a way to convince people that that’s what I was listening to in the mid 2000s instead of now. Awesome show, queuing up the rest of that NGC album now.

    • GoatForest

So, you like Poison the Well, then?

      • Joaquin Stick

I have no idea! It’s a whole new world for me. Although I find that I am very picky, there’s an emo line that I will not cross, even if there’s just a hint of it.

        • GoatForest

Gotcha. Well, if you look into them, check out their album, You Come Before You.

        • GoatForest

          Enjoy your new musical journey!

  • Doom Scientist

From 1999 to 2002 Wrestlemania was a big deal in my world. Much money was spent to make it a fun time for all who showed up to watch. Now? Meh.

    • GoatForest

Roman Reigns is not going to benefit from last weekend, unless the point was to make him the most loathed heel of all time.

      • Doom Scientist

It’s not just a fact in wrestling, it’s a reality of life; You can’t force people to like somebody.
Are you watching Smackdown tonight? If so, did you see that crazee reception Nakamura got just for showing up? That’s the kind of person who should be the face of your company, not someone who just doesn’t connect no matter how hard they push him. He should be a heel.

        • GoatForest

Yes, and I couldn’t agree with you more. The other thing is that I feel they are not emphasizing Bray Wyatt enough. That guy slays the Mic.

          • Doom Scientist

Dropping the ball with the Wyatt Family is one of their biggest recent screwups. Wyatts Vs The Shield was a great feud.

          • GoatForest

All this being said, the return of Balor was nice, and I’m enjoying Rollin’s face turn.

          • Doom Scientist

I only watch bits and pieces of the current WWE product, but I’m definitely curious to see how WWE handles Styles Vs Nakamura as opposed to how NJPW did.

          • GoatForest

My wife and I are waiting to see how they handle Asuka’s eventual transition to the main roster. It could be really cool. Or they could fumble it dramatically. My faith in the current writers is not great.

          • Doom Scientist

If they book her as anything but a merciless killer, it’ll come out badly.

  • Waynecro

    Good show, bros! Thanks!

  • Howard Dean

It’s pretty funny how Satanism has pretty much become the zen Buddhism of the 2010’s. Regardless of whether people are adopting it genuinely or in that ironic “too-cool-for-school” hipster way, it’s definitely gaining some mainstream acceptability (which is pretty remarkable, if you really think of its implications). I half expect a major well respected public figure to profess his/her adoration for the tenets of Satanism and to write a book about their love affair with the religion and how it helped them achieve all of their goals (à la Phil Jackson with zen Buddhism c. 1999-2000). I can see it now: “The Morningstar and Me: Aligning My Personal and Professional Goals With Those of the Dark One.” Everyone from hip urban professionals to suburban soccer moms are going to be under the sign of the black mark.

Eh, I just like Horror movies.

    • GoatForest

Hey, Satan is just the bee’s knees.

  • Dumpster Lung

Speaking of the Netflix Marvel shows? Wanna make like Buzzfeed and rank ’em?

    Jessica Jones
    Daredevil
    Luke Cage
*Whatever the next couple shows end up being
    Iron Fist

    • GoatForest

I can’t wait for them to do a Punisher one.

      • Dumpster Lung

The Punisher was definitely the best part of DD Season 2.

  • great show, gents! i’ll be sure to give it a good score on the Zune Marketplace 😉
