We’re talking with Joseph Schafer, our brother in blog arms and one of the creative minds behind Northwest Terror Fest 2018. Join as we chat about some of the siqqqq bands on the lineup, the work behind the scenes involved in setting up a metal fest, getting in a piping hot chili fight, and procuring full-size coffins and bags of brown M&M’s. Northwest Terror Fest is going down in Seattle from May 31st to June 2nd. Get tickets here.

Also, apologies for the weird audio flutters in the first minute or two of the interview. Thankfully, they do not persist throughout the show. I blame the bullshit winter weather we were all dealing with.

Music featured on this show:
Gatecreeper – “War Has Begun” from their upcoming split with Iron Reagan (Facebook)(Bandcamp)

I’d enter for the shirt, but I don’t do tapes, so why lessen the odds for others?

      • GrumpDumpus

SKIP THE LORDS OF CHAOS NONSENSE I’D PAY TOP DOLLAR WITH ALL MY GROCERY LINE-CLOGGING COUPONS FOR A LADY GAGA BATHORY HOLOGRAM HYBRID SHOW

Joseph Schaefer, you’re so RIIIIIIIIGHT about Yob live. That was one of the best shows I ever saw. I basically put on “Clearing The Path To Ascend” now to rekindle the memory of the experience of this start-to-finish-awesomeness.
(And everything Mike Scheidt does seems to be cool to solid gold, really love Vhöl, too, and would love to see them, too.)

  • themaleshoegaze

This was a great show (again). It touched on so many aspects of the metal world, bands (and so many cool ones from Converge, Integrity, Himsa to that cool beer-metal-merger the Panopticon guy has going on), their reception depending on where you are, venues, journalism and its interconnectedness with the larger music world and beyond that, and managed to pack it into broadcast-able conversation.

And the line up of this year’s fest is truly, insanely massive.

    Gatecreeper never fails.
