Toilet Radio: Talkin’ Slime with Matt from SLUGDGE

Matt from slug-and-riff-obsessed death metal band Slugdge joins us on this episode of Toilet Radio! We’re talking about smart doggos, packing CDs in slime, parasites, how wolves aren’t even all that badass tbh, silly song titles, proper metal attire, nazi metalheads, Brexit, and metal across the globe. If that isn’t enough for you, 365 and I also delve into the most horrific film we’ve ever seen, Last Ounce of Courage. You’ll never be the same again.

Music featured in this episode:

Slugdge – “Slimewave Zero” from The Cosmic Cornucopia (Facebook)(Bandcamp)
Mithras – “The Statue on the Island” from On Strange Loops (Facebook)(Bandcamp)

    Great episode, obligatory Hail Mollusca!

    • Óðinn

      Agreed.

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

“Listening now… damn im digging it. AMAZING art. Really good sound. Is whats with the name? I dont get it. there is seriously a lot of music out there, and this silly ass name is really inspiring me to not waste anymore of my preciously short life with this and instead go find something that dosnt seem to be some smirky ass (unfunny) joke. I fucking HATE this band now…. in the span of writting this! Bravo.”

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Let it be known that these are not my words. I greatly enjoy the name Slugdge.

    • Maik Beninton™

That guy didn’t come out unscathed.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        It was so awesome.

    • Brutalist_Receptacle

      You misspelled “Gslugdge”

  • AndySynn

Damn, but I do love “The Statue on the Island”.

    • That was Matt’s pick for us to play on the show!

      • AndySynn

        He has good taste.

And, at some point, I should probably listen to Slugdge.

  • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I remember they made a cartoon of the Toxic Crusader. It’s not easy to find.

    • it’s on YouTube along with like every Troma movie.

      • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

Really? I’ll have to watch the cartoon since it’s there. I know Street Sharks is also there.

  • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Talking about Troma, I remember years ago when I watched that first Toxic Avenger movie, how pissed I was when that “kid on bike” scene came along. I know it’s supposed to be a dark comedy, but I’m unable to see the humor (black comedy be damned) of kids or pets getting killed off. Chop up the adults as much as you want BUT LEAVE THE KIDS AND ANIMALS ALONE GODDAMMIT!!!

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

That being said, Sludgdge is pretty rad.

      • Joaquin Stick

        That track name. A+

    • CyberneticOrganism

They’re not really dead and movies are just pretend

      • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Of course (unless we’re talking about Cannibal Holocaust), but I think a lot of those kind of scenes are just kinda cheap and played out.
“Oh hey, let’s shoot a dog or a kid, that’ll SURELY shock the audience!”
I’m probably just entirely missing the point of Troma though.

      • Lacertilian

Even the Blair Witch Project, The Matrix, and The Land Before Time?
        I think not.

        • CyberneticOrganism

Only Beyond The Black Rainbow is real.

  • CyberneticOrganism

    Watch Surf Nazis Must Die!

    • Seen it, love it!

    • Óðinn

      All Nazis must die.

      • CyberneticOrganism

True. First the real nazis, then the surfin’ kind.

Sort has me in the mood to watch the 1988 classic “Slugs”!

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

The salt joke shriveled up Matt!

  • Black Unbeard

I think you guys don’t talk about Nazi metalheads enough on the show

    • Sorry that we don’t allow equal time for opposing views.

      • Black Unbeard

        lol

      • Óðinn

To be fair, Nazi metalheads do a pretty good job of holding opposing views at the same time. The Nazis, in addition to being genocidal and fascist, were Christian. They also hated new and avant-garde art forms. They considered anything not in s classical trdition to be “degenerate art”. They would have hated Black Metal and killed Black Metal fans.

        • Dumpster Lung

Those are great points I never had even considered. It is pretty funny to think about the fact that old-school Nazis would most certainly hate black metal. I guess anybody who was an adult in the 40s would hate black metal though, and the majority of people in modern times too, but still an interesting thought.

Had no idea about that painting. That’s kinda weird.

          • Óðinn

Nazi ideology is also authoritarian which is not very Metal.

You’re right, Black Metal in the 1940s wouldn’t have been liked in general. But the Nazis did dislike newer forms of art, Jazz for example.

  • Joaquin Stick

Is it a requirement that someone yell at their pet on every TovH Radio Show? You even got the guest in on it this time.

    • Joaquin Stick

Also Green Room is a sweet movie.

      • ≠ Voidscape Tyree ≠

Patrick Stewart is great in that.

      • Óðinn

Meh. I found it a bit disappointing.

  • You call Last Ounce of Courage horrific…I call it beautiful. The people who made that movie REALLY believe that American Christians are under persecution. Pictured: lead character and American hero.

  • This movie sounds like a piece of dystopian art right up there with, say, Terminator.

  • Matt sounds like 50 years older than I had imagined. The internet is weird, man.

    • Lacertilian

He sounded 50°Southier than what I’d imagined.

  • Óðinn

Thanks Joe, 365, Matt. That was some nice Slugdge.

    All hail the mighty Slugdge!

  • Dumpster Lung

Anyone here a fan of Bloodborne? I really loved the obvious Lovecraft-inspired themes in that game. Thought it was cool that they tied slugs/snails into that, like they were lesser versions of Old Ones or something.

I’m a little rusty on it, because it’s been a long while since I played it, but Slugdge immediately reminded me of it.
