TMP: Swanö, Enslaved, Crippled Black Phoenix, and More!

None of my news is particularly spooky for this Halloween edition of The Monday Press, but your personalities are scary enough. Get in here and discuss the current events!

I want to give a special shout out to toilet reader “Dumpster Lung” for keying us in on this bit of news (and sharing all the research he did to find it). Dumpster Lung is a good tolieteer, be more like him. Back in 1999, Dan Swanö released a solo album called Moontower that has never had a vinyl release. Dan even said in a Q&A that it would never happen. But guess what!? It’s happening! In a recent interview, Dan mentioned the reissue will happen with Black Mark. DL took it upon himself to email the company, and they said to check back at some point in November for pre-order information. I’m listening to Moontower now, and I can see why this is exciting. It’s some good Swanö.

Crowbar, Goatwhore, and Wake have a short US tour coming in December. More dates might pop up so be on the lookout.

Enslaved is releasing an album of early rarities on November 11. Check out a track here and head to Earsplit for more info on the release.

German black metal band Bethlehem have a new song out off their December 2 release.

This is one hell of an album cover for Sepultura‘s upcoming album, Machine Messiah.

Speaking of new album covers, here is Kreator’s. They set a release date of January 27. More info here.

Skáphe posted this. I don’t know what it means.

  • Head over to Brooklyn Vegan to stream a track from the upcoming Martyrdöd album. It’s full of D-beats and crust I guess. I still don’t know exactly what crust sounds like.
  • Adrenaline Mob, the band I only know about because I used to be obsessed with Symphony X, is back in the studio.
  • Mayhem has some more European dates.
  • Huntress is getting started on writing their next album.
  • Scale the Summit is having some personnel issues.
  • I’m not sure when this was actually announced, but Crippled Black Phoenix has a new album coming out on Friday. Bandcamp did a nice write up for them. I bet McNulty is excited.
  • Entombed AD is touring with Full of Hell and Turbid North, dates here:
Jan. 06 – Boston, MA – Once Ballroom
Jan. 07 – Philadelphia, PA – Kung Fu Necktie
Jan. 08 – Brooklyn, NY – Saint Vitus
Jan. 09 – Cleveland, OH – Grog Shop
    Jan. 10 – Chicago, IL – Reggies
Jan. 11 – Minneapolis, MN – Triple Rock
Jan. 12 – Kansas City, MO – Riot Room
Jan. 13 – Denver, CO – The Roxy
Jan. 14 – Albuquerque, NM – Sister Bar
Jan. 15 – Phoenix, AZ – Club Red
Jan. 16 – San Diego, CA – Brick By Brick
Jan. 17 – West Hollywood, CA – The Roxy
Jan. 18 – San Francisco, CA – Slims
Jan. 19 – Sacramento, CA – Starlite Lounge
    Jan. 20 – Portland, OR – Dantes
    Jan. 21 – Seattle, WA – Highline
    Jan. 22 – Vancouver, BC – Rickshaw

I probably missed a whole bunch of things, what are they?

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I was excited for that Machine Messiah album art. Then I realized it was still just Sepultura

    • Derrick Green era Sep has some good material!

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Sure as shit better than late or post-Sepultura Max!

  • I’d be super into that Moontower reissue if I was a vinyl guy. Nice find, Dumpster Lung.

    • Dumpster Lung ᴰᵃᵐᵃᵍᵉ_ᴵⁿᶜ⁸⁹

Thanks! I always said I never would become one, as my friends spend so much on vinyl constantly, but eventually it rubbed off on me, and I mainly justify it as slowly making up for years and years of piracy. (Although I’ve always bought a lot of shirts)

But yeah, really excited for this Moontower vinyl to come out. I would think it’d get a CD re-issue too, but I don’t know. Stumbled upon the news in an interview with Dan about Witherscape from August of this year. He mentioned it off-hand like it was no big deal (also, a Nightingale album being reissued with it).

He mentioned Black Mark Productions as the label, so I emailed them and someone in one of their Swedish offices got back to me almost right away. I’ve had good luck with emailing random places like that recently.

I also emailed Willowtip after successfully talking with Tom H. from Sarpanitum on Facebook. There are no plans for a vinyl pressing of Blessed Be My Brothers, unfortunately (but it hasn’t been ruled out).

  • Howard Dean

Cultes Des Ghoules – Coven is up for order/preorder on Shadown Kingdom and Hells Headbangers. If you aren’t excited about the last two months of this year, you are a fucking lifelover!

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

So if you “are not” excited, you are a lifelover. Does that mean if you are excited, you despise life?

  • That Skáphe news is good news and bad news? Also, Moontower>>>>>>

  • Heliocrat

That Sepultura cover is corny as shit

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

If by corny, you mean awesome, then yes

      • Heliocrat

        Nah, its fucking bad.

      • Heliocrat

Bet you think that Kreator cover is also awesome ahah

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Nope, that one is really bad.

          • Heliocrat

Ahah I was joking. That Kreator cover makes the Sepultura one look like a Rembrandt to my eyes…

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            Hahaha!!!!

    • Joaquin Stick

There’s so much going on. Crab claws, butterfly wings, test tube baby, a robot with people hands. I can’t form an opinion because it’s just so damn confusing.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        It is awesome

  • Howard Dean

    Test

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      Passed

      • Howard Dean

I wrote that from my phone because I got the “We are unable to post your comment because you have been banned by Toilet ov Hell” when I tried to comment from my computer. I wanted to see if my account was banned or just my IP.

I’m also unsure why I just got the banned message. Can anyone shed some light on what happened?

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

          Uhh… no clue.

Were you going to say something about Baco Tell or MaybeBetal?

          • Howard Dean

I dunno. Still can’t comment on my computer. Get the same banned message. But my account still seems to be able to post. Just the IP of my computer, I guess.

I was actually replying to the Reposted Avenged Sevenfold message with a Reposted “Dear Abby” comment, and then it said the “you are banned” message. Weird.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Well that is weird as hell.

          • Howard Dean

Appears to be fixed now. Really strange.

          • Howard Dean

EDIT: Appears to be banned again. I have no idea what’s going on.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Did you try using the same reply? There might’ve been a “banned word” in it, I think that exists, not 100%sure though

          • Howard Dean

Yeah, I tried to post the same “Dear Abby” reply to RepostedAvengedSevenfold, and got the ban message again. Not sure if I used a banned word (I actually wasn’t aware that there were “banned words”), but something certainly got triggered.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            I honestly don’t know.

          • Howard Dean

It’s fixed again, now. I guess I won’t try posting the “Dear Abby” reply a third time, cause there is apparently something in there that the filter doesn’t like.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            Good plan

          • Howard Dean

Sidenote: Is “T aco B ell” really a banned phrase? If so, hahahahahaha.

          • It’s a long story.

It’s not really a long story but it was because of shitposting.

          • Howard Dean

I reckon because of JJD’s affinity for T aco B ell breakfast back in the day? I remember getting after him about that before my first banning. Hahaha. That and Kenny Rogers Roasters, Planet Fitness, and the whole Torrie Wilson saga.

          • Right on the money, sir!

          • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

That Torrie Wilson saga was hilarious in hindsight. I was basically psychotic because I stopped taking one medication and started another but things are different now. Also I don’t go to Planet Fitness. I go to Crunch.

          • Joaquin Stick

            More like Captain Crunch, amirite?

          • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

            Exactly.

          • Howard Dean

So I’ve got to say that knowing you were psychotic when the Torrie Wilson saga was unfolding 1.) Makes sense; and 2.) Makes me feel bad for picking on you about it. Didn’t realize it was a chemically-attributed psychosis. Apologies, JJD!

          • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

It’s fine. I’ve gone back to the medication that keeps me sane.

          • W.

There are a handful of words that set off the filter, pretty much all of which were put there because of rampant shitposting.

          • Howard Dean

I guess I used one of the notorious rampant shitposting words when I tried to reply as Abigail Van Buren aka Dear Abby. Hahahaha.

          • W.

Lol. I don’t remember all of the words in the filter, but if it was both crass and pointless, it probably got there because of KJU.

          • Dumpster Lung ᴰᵃᵐᵃᵍᵉ_ᴵⁿᶜ⁸⁹

Whoa, good to know. How does that work? You don’t get immediately banned for using one of the words, do you? Surely there’s a warning of some kind?

          • W.

It just blocks the comment rather than the user.

          • Dumpster Lung ᴰᵃᵐᵃᵍᵉ_ᴵⁿᶜ⁸⁹

Oh ok, that’s not so bad. Is the list published anywhere?

So far, I know there’s Japanese Choreographycore and Simulated Mexican Food Franchise. Anything else?

        • President Chester A. Arthur

If you’re posting from work, it could be a firewall or internet security platform issue. I used to get banned messages all the time from AV Club on my work computer but the laptop worked fine with the same account.

          • Howard Dean

Could be. I’ve never gotten a firewall kickback like that from work before, so I think it may have been an internal ToH filter.

  • Scrimm

    Moontower>>>>>>

    • Elegant Gazing Globe

      You like Infestdead too?

      • Scrimm

Been a long time since I’ve listened but yes

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

          it’s almost deicide

  • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Fingers crossed for Sepultura dad prog.

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

Gosh you whippersnappers are early this morning

  • Joaquin Stick

Holy shit. I was just skimming the YouTube comments on that Moontower link, and Conan the Bro-barian commented on it. Small digital world.

    • TheCheezFace

I found Gorak in an Opeth comment section once. That was quite unexpected.

  • Karhu shared the new Crippled Black Phoenix songs and I must admit that I dug it. I will def check that out. Thanks to Mañulti and Beargod for the shoutout!

Also, that Kreator cover is awful, why did they had to put letter font in front of more red? It says “God…s o…f… vbhfasdkhfksdfence”. Even the Sepultura one is kinda better.

    Maybe I will check Moontower.

    • Joaquin Stick

I didn’t even notice the album name down there. It blends right in!

  • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

That is cool album art work for Sepultura. Also I’m mad that Adrenaline Mob is still going. You’d think they’d disband after their drummer died. He even died of a heart attack at the venue I go to. RIP AJ Pero.

    • Agreed, Sep’s album art is cool. Typically I would consider that style “too busy”, but it works somehow. It’s obnoxiousness is appreciated. Also looking forward to hearing the material.

      • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

Exactly. The art hyped me up for the album.

  • Kreator’s Phantom Antichrist was one guuuuuud album, way better than the snoozefest Enemy of God*. Got me fingers crossed for the new one!

    *Come at me bros.

  • Dumpster Lung ᴰᵃᵐᵃᵍᵉ_ᴵⁿᶜ⁸⁹

    Thanks for the shout-out, Joaquin!

Holy shit, that Sepultura artwork is so good it actually makes me want to hear the album, and I’ve never been a post-Max-Sep kinda guy at all.

I think that besides the vibrant colors, the way the crab pincers and fetus are arranged remind me of Arise quite a bit. The pincers of course are a direct reminder of the ones belonging to Yog-Sothoth in the Arise artwork, and the fetus immediately makes me think of “Dead Embryonic Cells” from that same album.

  • Jack Rabbit

Alcest is touring NA early next year. May have to make a weekend trip home from school to catch it.

  • mother☆shabubu

Seeing the financial woes of Allagaeon via Jack Bauer’s post the other day makes me wonder how a meh tier band like Scale the Summit has been able to hang around for this long.

  • Waynecro

The ad that Google’s algorithms dropped into the YouTube video for that new Bethlehem song reads “Free Messianic Bible.” I find this humorous.
