Between the holidays is not really the best time to release important news, but some bands did it anyway. Shake off that eggnog and champagne hangover and get caught up on some news.

The lineup for Frost and Fire Fest in California was announced.

It would almost be easier just note when Six Feet Under doesn’t have something new in the works.

Or has something good in the works.

    • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

Why do they keep going? They’re just so bad now.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

You can’t stop Rock and Roll, JJD!

        • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

You can stop Six Feet Under though. They’re just awful.

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I’m kind of intrigued as to who’ll write it, now that no Cannabis Corpse guys are gonna participate.
Maybe one of the dudes who’s been in the band for a decade, but never played on anything.
It’s gonna suck, but morbid curiosity.

  • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

Wait, everyone is leaving Vektor except the vocalist? Why does this keep happening?

    • Howard Dean

The dude that does vocals is also their guitarist, main songwriter, and overall creative force, so it isn’t really “everyone” who is leaving.

      • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

        Well that’s convenient.

      • I hope it isn’t because said creative force is pulling a Michael Keene.

        • EsusMoose

They could make a band Keen-ektor! And break up due to creative issues

    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

I read somewhere that only one of those guys are founding members and it’s like their third or fourth drummer and bass player

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Short but sweet! Frost and Fire looks absolutely incredible and a new Body Count album? Yes, please.

  • Black Unbeard

man, id go on the metal cruise

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Whoa, just looked at the lineup. Sign me up.

      • Black Unbeard

whats up with these sexist ticket prices

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Haha, i didn’t even want to look that far

          • Black Unbeard

suffice to say everything cheap is sold out and itll cost you >2000 for a three day cruise from Florida (lol) to Haiti (LOL) and back

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            PASS

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

There used to be a venue that was in Downtown Miami, and they used to booked about 5-6 bands that where going to be playing on the cruise around that week, that way you can see a couple of bands, without having to pay the full amount.
Too bad that they closed the venue last year, that is how i got to see Napalm Death.

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

          HOLY SHNIKES!!!

        • Howard Dean

Haha, I haven’t even looked. But since t’s a metal-themed cruise, I imagine they’re almost willing to pay women to attend.

          • Black Unbeard

            gender pay gap, my ass

          • EsusMoose

Prices are the same for genders, it seems to be because you can’t get a single room and therefore get matched with someone of the same gender if you go alone. Cause who doesn’t want to share a room with a random metalhead?

          • Black Unbeard

Welcome to RapeCruise 2017, Heavy Metal Briefcase Bro Edition

        • Pentagram Sam

I really think these types of cruises are for old guys w lots of disposable income, or richer types who might be more casual fans and combine the whole vacation thing with metal.

Knew a couple guys who had real good jobs who dabbled in metal, and they wanted to go on one of these several years ago and their exact line of reasoning was, “It’s alot of bands I’ve heard of but never seen, and the cost of the cruise basically keeps the riff raff out.”

Pretty sure it’s fun but in a lot more “upper class” kinda way.

Seriously not trying to start class warfare here.

          • Black Unbeard

THANKS RICHY MC RICHERSON, IM GONNA GO EAT AT MCDONALDS NOW

          • Howard Dean

I could afford a ticket, but I wouldn’t ever attend one of these because I don’t feel like getting E.Coli or MRSA or any other horrible ailment on one of those floating death traps. Plus being stuck on a giant boat with hundreds of people (metalheads especially) sounds like the worst thing ever. I’d rather not take a vacation.

            Fuck cruise ships.

          • Black Unbeard

and scurvy, dont forget about scurvy!
            arrrrrr!

          • KyleJMcBride

I’ll stick with going to a festival where I can come and go as I please.

          • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Supposedly the appeal of those things is that the bands are locked up in there with you, so they have to eat, drink and hang out with you, whether they like it or not. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some “Performer Only” area were bands spend most of the time away from everyone else

    • more beer

A buddy told me his bar tab for him and his wife was over 3 grand on that thing.

      • Black Unbeard

which means mine and my old ladys would be 6

        • more beer

This cruise id certainly about separating you from your cash.

  • I smoked weed for the first time on NYE (I’m 34). It didn’t go as planned and I was very uncomfortably high and light-headed/heavy-bodied for about 2 hours before it settled into what I was expecting, at which point it was very enjoyable. Me and the missus watched Nightmare Before Christmas in what seemed like 2 minutes to me. I won’t do it again however.

Then last night I got drunk for the first time ever (never drank before actually) while we watched The Godfather. It was enjoyable. I’ll do it again.

So, straight edge my whole life, just broke edge. Hello, 2017!

    • Howard Dean

Dude, that’s insane. I’m genuinely impressed that you made it to 34 without drinking alcohol. Crazy!

      I made it to 14.

      • Black Unbeard

making it to 34 without doing ANYTHING is crazy talk

        • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

Try being me. I dont ever plan on drinking or smoking or doing drugs.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa
          • Yeeeeaahhh Minor Threat.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            One of the very best

          • Howard Dean

Give it another year or two and you’ll be downing cheap vodka like there’s a set of fat titties at the bottom of every bottle.

          • Black Unbeard

i remember when there used to be fat titties when i finished a bottle of cheap vodka. 🙁
            the good ol days

          • KyleJMcBride

            There isn’t?

      • All aboard the fentanyl train tonight I ‘spose.

        • Black Unbeard

          CHOOOCHOOO COUNT ME ON BOARD

          • KyleJMcBride

            Aw yeah. You know it.

        • Howard Dean

Hahahaha. Finish the week off with some Ketamine and Krokodil.

    • There are dozens of sXe bands writing songs calling you a sell out at this very moment.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        Ever jammed Have Heart?

        • I have. They’re a little too… earnest for me hahaha

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Hahaha, I had a friend recommend them to me, sounded like something you might enjoy. About to try them out shortly.

    • Ayreonaut
    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

I’ve never had an interest in weed and smoked it once in my life to zero effect.

However, at a friends post thanksgiving potluck I happened to eat some cookies while I was in kitchen making salad. Later that evening (after drinking mind you) I went for some more cookies and asked what they were…

      That was quite a night

      • Potluck indeed!

        • The Tetrachord of Archytas

I hear edibles are more potent too, so accidentally eating a bunch definitely put me out of my mind

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

A friend of mine brought me some candy and capsules of oil from oregon and i wasn’t that impressed.

          • KyleJMcBride

            They are, bigtime.

          • Scrimm

Edibles don’t do shit to me, Can’t figure that out at all

  • Howard Dean

About Profound Lore’s announcement: Will be interested to hear new stuff from Portal, Impetuous Ritual, Pissgrave, and possibly Artificial Brain. However, about 80% of Profound Lore’s lineup nowadays is pretty meh. Their roster is a strange mix of insane black and death metal and bestial shit with a bunch of Noiseycore nonsense. They went hard on that progressive and post-metal train, and I bailed out at the first station.

    • Black Unbeard

they do have a strange lineup now but there are some great bands on it still

      • Howard Dean

That’s true. It’s actually more like 50% meh/50% good at the moment (just checked their roster on metal-archives), but I still scratch my head at some of the bands they have in the lineup.

        • Black Unbeard

i didnt realize that Geruvah was on their label. they also have some shit like AMSG but also . . . Bloody Panda? it is odd

    • Space Monster W.

I saw someone once comment that Profound Lore almost seems to go for a uniform aesthetic rather than a uniform sound, and it makes a lot of sense. I like a handful of PL albums each year, so I think the 50/50 split you mentioned is accurate. I’m stoked for all the ones you listed and potentially Vaura, though they’re hit or miss for me.

    • TheTransmuted

Portal, IR, and Artificial Brain have me hyped as well. I would also add Full of Hell. Not everyones cup of tea, but I’ve been a big fan of theirs for years. Looking forward to hearing the new record.

  • RustyShackleford

Hyped for new stuff from Profound Lore! Possibly even more excited for Mutoid Man. Everything they’ve done so far has been fun/awesome. Don’t really like Of Mice and Men, but they actually opened for Slipknot/Manson when I saw them this summer and honestly weren’t bad and seemed like cool dudes. Even if you’re not a fan that is some pretty shitty news, so I definitely hope he’s able to continue doing something he loves in whatever way he can. Also wasn’t really around the interwebz this weekend so happy new year toileteers! Yep!!!

  • KyleJMcBride

Speaking of Profound Lore, still waiting for Occultation to follow up ‘Silence In The Ancestral House’, my fave record of 2014.

  • AeonsOvChaos
