TMP: Iron Monkey, Code Orange, Ensiferum And More!

The joke has turned sour, and once again the world looks upon it’s weary saviour. But the ravages of time are irreversible and unforgivingly cruel – can our hero deliver the news in time? Find out in the next exiting episode of – The Monday Press!

One of the more celebrated cult sludge bands, Iron Monkey is back. The new full-length 9-13 will hit the stores on October 20th. While you wait, you can jam “OmegaMangler” below.

Charlie Looker, known for his work in Psalm Zero, will be contributing backing vocals on a few upcoming Zeal & Ardor shows.

Code Orange performed the theme for wrestler Aleister Black at WWE’s minor league, NXT: The Takeover, with the vocalist of Incendiary.

Moonspell will release 1755 on November 3rd. Thus spake Fernando Ribeiro, concerning it: “I have been fascinated with Portuguese history since I can remember. The year of 1755 marked the birth of a new Portugal. Much more than just the greatest natural disaster ever to occur on European soil, the great Lisbon Quake, shockwaves can not be reduced to a dramatic death toll. From absolute tragedy, a new city was born, giving way to a new time where Portuguese relied more on themselves than on the crown or the cross, granting us, much of the city, the lay country, the free will that we enjoy today. This is not just another album from us. It’s a musical and lyrical History document, a homage we pay to our legacy and to the amazing skills and resilience of our fellow Portuguese back then, of all mankind when brought down to the knees by the violent forces of Nature and Reason.”

To support the record they’re heading out for a euro-tour with Cradle of Filth, also soon to release their new record, Cryptoriana (Sep 22nd) – no word on US dates as of writing.

I’ve often wondered what it would be like to be four women.

      • more beer

That sounds like fun but also exhausting.

        • KJM, Anla’Shok

I honestly don’t think my blood pressure could cope at this point. : (

          • more beer

I would be good with going out like that.

  • Howard Dean

Would normally be super torqued up for a new Archgoat album, but that EP left me pretty meh and I’m definitely getting pickier about my bestial/war metal stuff.

Definitely pumped about a new Arckanum album. Though it’s sad to see a great band hang it up, a lot of times it’s a good decision. The discography is always there.

    • Retchin’ Rites ov Karhu

Pretty much the opposite myself. This whole punkier Arckanum thing has never truly woven me in, and this new track isn’t changing anything. It’s alright, but also not great.
Whereas that Archgoat EP is chundling my trundle, it’s AG by-the-numbers more or less, but sounds good, and anyways I listen to very few war metal bands anymore these days – so I’ll always welcome new music from those I do.

      • Howard Dean

I’ve taken a liking to a lot of punkier sounding BM within the last few years, so I find modern Arckanum pretty solid (I really like all eras, to be honest). This track from the last album still randomly pops into my head some days:

        • Retchin’ Rites ov Karhu

I do enjoy a good bit of punkier black metal (hell, I just joined a punk-black band), but Arckanum hasn’t really been regular with his later work. Maybe it’s the weight of the earlier releases, maybe he just didn’t do something right. Though I will admit pretty much all of his albums do also have some great moments.

    Apology not accepted.

The story of the Lisbon earthquake does not end with the quake (perhaps a 9.0 or higher). Thirty minutes later a giant tsunami smashed Portugal’s coast and took untold thousands out to sea. The quake and tsunami affected four continents. But that was not the end of it: later that day an hellacious firestorm hit Lisbon, destroying what ever remained. Temperatures exceeded 1,832 ℉ and burned for weeks after. What the quake and tsunami failed to destroy, the fire incinerated. Mark Molesky’s history This Gulf of Fire is a fantastic, award-winning read.

    • Wooow. That was interesting. Now I’m curious towards new Moonspell, and I didn’t had any expectation towards it. Not a fan of the band.

      • Brutalist_Receptacle

It is one of the greatest natural disasters in the history of the planet, and relatively unknown to many. Think about it: it happened at the peak of the “Enlightenment” and the disaster affected modern politics, religious and scientific understanding, humanitarian relief efforts. Finally, lost to the world besides the vast wealth of gold and silver swept away, were some of the world’s greatest libraries. YOU MUST READ MOLESKY.

        • dang dude, that’s fascinating. always be history’ing us! i appreciate it.

          • Brutalist_Receptacle

            It actually is my job!

          • teaching us toilet dwellers is your job? love it. i do remember you mentioning that you teach history before.

        • Incredible. Thanks for the EXTREMELEY BRUTAL RECOMMENDATION, BROTHER OV MEROL lml lml.

  • Joaquin Stick

Shit, that Z&A show is tomorrow in Chicago? That might not be a possibility. Was really hoping to see that.

  • Primordial Chaos

I’m totally infected by new Incantation and the two songs by Altarage, not so surprised by new Archgoat but in this month Urn, Verthebral, Incantation, The Lurking Fear and Subservience are stuck in my head!

  • here’s the actual link to that new Evanescence recording:

  • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Exit Eden sounds a lot like Nightwish

That is not a good thing

    • oh wow, one quick search on YouTube shows that they also covered — and ruined — a perfect song known as “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga.

  • Al Bvndy

Yey for new Iron Monkey. I didn’t even know that they were active again. I hope they tour and play a toilet near me soon. I’d also like COF to bring Moonspell over to the UK in November.

  • Hans

    Hell yeah, Evanescence!
