Mesarthim released a new EP, cheekily called The Great Filter.

Sepultura released another song. Album out January 13.

Band that I wish was as good as The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, released a new song.

Grindcore “supergroup” Lock Up released a new song, new album out in March.

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I want to go to that Metal and Beer fest so bad.

    • Me too! Too expensive for me though.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        Yeahhh…

    • I’m about an hour or two away from Philly. Might have to consider making a trip.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

That is a mighty fine lineup

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Got my tickets and hotel room booked.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Wave at Sleep for me, please.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Anything with Anneke is a good.
So are Nokturnal news and Vultures.
Morr nervous than excited about the new Solstafir. The talked a lot about how they figured out their true strengths recording it and made the worst tookie mistake ever. Recording an album filled with nothing but those “strong moments”, oth it was actually pretty good.
Oh, and Nails, get your shit together and try to stay together until the end of the tour this time.

    • I’ll be happy if they hold it together for two dates, I could at least see them that way.

  • Come Hell or high water, I’m going to see ETID on this tour. Harm’s Way, Knocked Loose and Eternal Sleep are all quality openers and I’m leaving 3hrs early so I don’t get screwed by traffic. Or I’m taking mass transit if I can be out of the city by midnight.

    • Have fun in my stead, Ron. That tour won’t be coming anywhere near me.

      • I will windmill and spin kick to Harm’s Way in your honor.

  • Howard Dean
    • KyleJMcBride

This guy rolls harder than all of us put together.

  • Man it would be great if that ETID/Harm’s Way/Eternal Sleep tour came my way, I absolutely LOVE two of them and would be glad to see the third either way. But GOD FUCKING DAMN am I getting a hell of a compensation package with that Nails/Toxic Holocaust/Gatecreeper show. Glad Todd managed to get his shit together.

    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

I’m in the opposite boat, ETID is playing 5 minutes from my house and while I’m a long time fan (and will definitely go) modern day me would rather see gatecreeper

      • I’ll make sure to knock someone down in the pit on your behalf.

  • Alcest and The Body?
What’s next–Carcass and Deafheaven or something?

    • Dave Vincent’s Perm

      Ha

      • I’ll take it.

        • Howard Dean

Neige goes pretty hard, though. Despite his pixie-esque fairy-tale look, he’s probably way more of a bad ass than those The Body guys–he did play with Peste Noire for awhile (a band those hipsters in The Body probably wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole).

          • Dave Vincent’s Perm

            Peste Noire >>>>>>

  • HOLY FUCK that So What fest lineup is atrocious. Attila and Emmure and After the Burial? UUUGGGGHHH

  • Dave Vincent’s Perm
    • Joaquin Stick

      Needs fewer colors.

      • Dave Vincent’s Perm

There’s a reason why they aren’t called Neon Green Funeral.

  • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

In other news I’ve heard Carnifex, Despised Icon, Fallujah and Rings of Saturn are touring together.

    • Howard Dean

I’d rather eat T@co Bell breakfast off of the bathroom floor with shit-covered hands than see that tour.

      • Joaquin Stick

I saw that news late last night, considered turning my computer back on to add it, but then decided even the hardcore Fallujah fans would avoid the hell out of that tour.

        • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I can guarantee it will be coming near me. The person who promotes shows around here was asking if people were interested in opening for Carnifex a while back. This is what he talking about probably.

          • Howard Dean

Did you tell him that Mr. In-Your-House was interested in one of the opening slots?

          • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

            I don’t perform live.

          • KyleJMcBride

Ah, you’re like Steely Dan during the late 1970s then?

          • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

            Exactly.

      • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I’d see it solely because I liked Carnifex at one point. I could care less about the others.

      • ME GORAK™✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ
        • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I had that once. Was not impressed.

        • JWEG

For the longest time I thought the “CDN” in so many image URLs meant they were all from Canada.

Thought we might be taking over the internet, just like we will all other media…

  • KyleJMcBride

I love The Mars Volta yet have never really cared much about ATDI.

    • Joaquin Stick

Me either, but the little I have tried is missing the magical weirdness of TMV.

      • KyleJMcBride

They were also missing the insane drumming of either Jon Theodore or Thomas Pridgen.

    • atchdav

Omar Rodríguez-López is pretty prolific. He’s put out 8 albums so far this year.

      • KyleJMcBride

He seems to put out that much almost every year. I’ll probably never hear everything he’s released.

    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

I kind of go the opposite, but as a kid I was into post hardcore before proggy Santana worship

Actually that’s not totally true I really love the Mars Volta but some of their releases were really lazy to me and atdi has a lot less material

  • NefariousDude

Nails pisses me off and not in the intended way either.

    • Major Zim

They try super duper hard to act like they don’t try or care.

      • NefariousDude

        Exactly

  • Oh cmon Metal & Beer fest…Immolation deserves to have their name enfonted on that poster!

  • VVizardface Kelly

But I like The Contortionist. 🙁
I am a Wizardface, after all. Spacey melodies and chanting is our jam.

    • James

with Norma Jean i’m sold. Whats with the Contortionist hate?

      • Joaquin Stick

It’s just me, honestly. It’s because they a band that I should like, but am just generally bored by them. For like 2 years in a row, they opened for almost every single show I saw so my “meh” feelings about them turned into pure rage. Talented dudes, and I like the vocalist, he’s great live, but I just always wanted their set to end like 20 minutes before it actually did.

        • VVizardface Kelly

I do have to say, having seen them incendientally or intentionally, having the same set list for two years worth of tours is pretty disappointing. I’m a fan but the volume of touring they do on three albums doesn’t make things feel fresh or engaging.

It’s not just you, and it’s not just them. I’ve had the same experience with Whitechapel. Somehow, they are always playing when I go to a show.

          • Major Zim

I’m a huge fan of Michael Lessard’s old band Last Chance To Reason, so The Contortionist basically becoming the more progged out, spacy followup I always wanted to LCTR’s masterpiece Level 2 was more than okay with me. One of my all-tie favorite albums right there.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like any of their previous work with their old singer.

        • James

I feel the same way about Tessaract and intronaut

          • Joaquin Stick

Agree on Tesseract, but man do I love me some Intronaut.

          • James

cant stand drunk uncle vocals. Mastodon is where I draw the line.

  • JWEG
  • Waynecro

Nice work, JS! I’d like to see Nails again, Harms Way, Superjoint, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Pig Destroyer, but I don’t think I’ll be able to evolve a jetpack in time.
