TMP: A Sense of Gravity, Deathspell Omega, Anciients, and More!

Have you been without internet for the last four days? Or maybe you stopped communicating with the outside world since that new Netflix show came out. Either way, The Monday Press has you covered with a news roundup.

Maryland Deathfest made its final selections. Check out the lineup here.

One of my favorite up-and-coming progressive metal bands, A Sense of Gravity, released a new song off their upcoming album. Look for that November 18.

Here’s some new Animals as Leaders. I wasn’t as captivated by their sophomore album, but this is interesting to say the least.

New Crowbar track. Album out October 28.

  • Our friend David Brenner from Earsplit has released a new track from his Gridfailure project over at Loudwire. That album will be out for free on October 30th.
  • Deathspell Omega is releasing a new EP titled The Synarchy of Molten Bones in November. I’ve never seen so many pre-orders before the first song is even released. The hype is real.
  • Pain of Salvation put out a teaser video for their new album, which will be out January 13th. The tiny sample makes it sound like a far enough offshoot from their previous few albums, so I am interested.
  • I somehow missed that atmospheric/sludge/other genres band Mouth of the Architect is releasing an album on Friday. Check out one of the tracks here.
  • Dead Congregation announced a little EP coming October 20th.
  • Progressive metal band Anciients premiered a new song at Guitar World. I keep forgetting that I really like this band. You should like them too.
  • Math/hard/core band The Number Twelve Looks Like You are reuniting after a few year hiatus.
  • Steel Panther are coming back. Ugh.
  • Getcha nu metal pulls at a Korn, Heaven Shall Burn, and Hellyeah concert.
  • Guitarist Phil Sgrosso is leaving Wovenwar to pursue other projects.
  • Hardcore punk band Homewrecker are releasing an EP at the end of the month.
  • Here are some Kayo Dot tour dates:

  • Probably going to at least go to MDF for one or two days next year. There are some serious bands listed there.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

They should make a Texas Death Fest, so I don’t have to go to Maryland.

      • RIP Chaos in Tejas 🙁

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I was never able to make it to one of those, i had a friend that went a lot though

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain
        • W.

Like I said before, I might go to that. Depends on what part of the country I’m in at the time.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            You world, traveler, you.

          • W.

Well, I’m like 90% sure I’ll be moving in May, so…

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I just want that Candlemass set, haha

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Well, I’m, assuming it will be without Messiah. Bands doing album sets without key members that recorded it, is a bit shitty, unless the members are dead.

          • I’d still watch that set though, and stomp with a beer in my hand.

          • Ayreonaut

            Love that music video

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            I can understand that.

            But those RIFFS!

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Very true. Riffs truly conquer all.

          • It’s like Mayhem. I’d still pay money to see them play all of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas live with out Euronymous.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Yeah, like I said, unless their dead. You can’t do shit about that. Would see De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas live in a fucking second.

          • Derp. I should learn to read.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

If they were rerecording it, then i woul be pissed but playing it live isn’t bad

    • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

      You would.

    • RJA

Terrorizer World Downfall set!! Yes Please!

    • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I wish I could make it. I like Cryptopsy, Vader and Tiamat.

    • sweetooth0

Nice, me and the gf wanna go back this year too!

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

    That Crowbar is good Crowbar.

    • Ayreonaut

They played a lot of new stuff when I saw them live the other week. The new stuff is good, and holy shit is it 10x heavier live

    • Waynecro

I always feel like listening to Crowbar in the gym when I’m lifting really heavy weight. Crowbar’s plodding riffs and anguished vocals just seem to go very well with struggling really, really hard to move a lot of weight very slowly.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        That makes perfect sense

  • Howard Dean

I think the DsO release is considered an album despite the short run time. NoEvDia is calling it an album. I honestly think DsO label their releases as albums or EPs based more on the concept/theme of the release than the length.

Anyway, I’m more excited for new DsO than anything that’s been released in years. My feelings about the band’s music have been well documented on this very blog. Unsubstantiated rumors say that it’s going to sound more like their older stuff (think Manifestations 2002 or Inquisitors of Satan), but I honestly don’t see them going there (though I think it would be fucking awesome). I’m expecting something akin to Drought mixed with Fas (the run time would be perfect for something more chaotic like Fas).

Also: The cover art is fantastic (I expected nothing less).

    • W.

I’m genuinely happy for you that you get new music from them. I remember you writing earlier this year that you felt they had probably just dissolved.

      • Howard Dean

Yeah, I was completely overjoyed when I saw the news (which was announced totally on the down low, of course, with just a random label update on the Norma Evangelium Diaboli website). I was like 80-90% certain we’d never hear anything from them again. So many of those NoEvDia bands had gone silent (Katharsis, Funeral Mist, S.V.E.S.T, Sorhin, DsO) and I thought maybe the bands and the label were just phasing out. Totally unexpected and awesome.

    • DSO for me is like relationships. If you go looking for new Deathspell, you’re only going to be disappointed. If you just wait and let it happen, eventually something will turn up

      • Howard Dean

This is an analogy about which I will say “this is a perfect analogy.”

I spent years scouring the interwebs for DsO news like a frustrated eHarmony user.

        • It’s a bi monthly thing for me. WHERE’S NEW DSO. WHERE’S NEW DSO. That goes for Diablo Swing Orchestra as well

  • Not so many news for me today, but that Anciients is tagged in my #LinkNotebook for awesomesauceness.

Also, this is a great cover art, Joaquín:

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      That’s intense!

    • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

      Anciients rules.

  • Eliza

I like Anciients, and the songs that were released from the new album sound good, so I’m expecting to like it as well. New Animals as Leaders sounds good too.

  • AlphaBetaFoxface

In Australia, so MDF is out of the question. Not to worry though, Ulcerate have a tour planned for the launch of their upcoming.

Never mind, that tour is a US exclusive. At least we have our health, I guess.

  • 365ChaosRiddenDays

Deathspell Omega and Dead Congregation, great news.

  • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I never thought I’d be jealous of Randall but he’s opening for one of my favorite NWOBHM bands Praying Mantis.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I’m jealous that Randall actually has a trad/speed/power metal band.

    • See below.

    • W.

      • I just woke up and im toolazy to remove it. Not fully functionoing lol

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

  • God

Fuck I’ve got a boner looking at that Maryland death fest lineup

    • nbm02ss

Definitely going to try to make it out there this time.

  • Candlemass, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Vader, Cryptopsy, Grave, Terrorizer, Akercocke, Exumer, Insect Warfare, Macabre, Behexen, Exhumed, Morbid Saint, Wormrot, Sargeist, Decrepit Birth, Malignancy, Gorgasm, Father Befouled, War Master, and… Goolagoon?
MDF is lit this year, fam. If Baltimore wasn’t a ten hour drive from where I live, I’d be totally down for that…

  • JWEG

    – Dead Congregation EP. Great.

    – Will be on bandcamp. Great.

    – Must wait until after the European tour for bandcamp. Well, OK.

    – Last date of tour appears to be December 16 at the earliest (to Feb/Mar if Eastern EU included). Fuuuu

  • that new Sense of Gravity is good! heavier than the previous rekkid. thoughts, @yourlogicsucks:disqus ?

    • Joaquin Stick

It’s a bit chaotic at first but when it settles down a bit it gets rill good. I think that opening will grow on me once I’m expecting it. Agreed, much heavier, not a bad thing at all.
