This Toilet Tuesday (9/27/16)

Welcome once again to This Toilet Tuesday! You all know the drill; there’s new music and lots of it, and we’re here to help you find the stuff that doesn’t suck. There’s a surprising amount of good material out this week, though, so W. and I have taken the liberty of selecting a few that might have flown under your radar otherwise. Take a listen to these jams and hit that list below.

Deathcult – Beasts of Faith (Invictus Productions) [Death Metal]

Look, I know all of you are just frothing at the loins for new material from a certain death metal band whose name rhymes with Snack Mix (work with me), but if you need a break from your legendary death metal meal, might I suggest the wholly deranged offering from Switzerland’s Deathcult. This is old style death metal, with grungy riffs, crusty solos, and raspy barks, but this beast has a bit of mange. There’s just something off about this record, as if the people making it just aren’t quite right in the head, and that comes out when the rhythms and riffs get a bit seasick and start vomiting all over the standard OSDM song structure. It’s rad. Give it a spin. Then go back to Snack Mix. FFO: Possessed, Necrovore, Pestilence 9/26/16 (W.)

Impure Ziggurat – Serenades of Astral Malevolence (Magister Dixit) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Summoning Oort’s semen (Crawling into the serpents’ nest)”

Despite what a track name like “Summoning Oort’s semen (Crawling into the serpents’ nest)” would have you believe, this isn’t utterly filthy war metal or grimy, cavernous death metal. No, Impure Ziggurat play an oddly tight brand of blackened death with sewage-gargling growls bashing up against riotous, even victorious tremolo riffs while precision blasts batter and blister. I was expecting to get buried in 10 feet of excrement while jamming this, but instead I got my block knocked clean off with one devastating hammer blow. FFO: Svart Crown, Necroblood, Axis of Advance 9/30/16 (W.)

Doomed – Anna (Solitude Productions) [Death/Doom]

I like to think I’ve got a stomach for the disturbing, but the newest from Doomed makes me want to crawl under the covers and hide. Anna is very off-putting, coupling dense doom metal with a variety of creepy soundscapes. It builds its chilling atmosphere with a twisted sense of beauty, emotive leads and the occasionally sung line slithering over the tense, choking undercurrents. Give this a listen if you don’t feel like sleeping tonight. 9/26/16 (Spear)

  • Possessed and Necrovore you say ay? Going to have to check that out. Invictus rarely ever disappoints.

    • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

What’s his nuts from Bolzer used to be in that band. And need to check them out as well.

      • Rules so far!

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

          • This is really good. I’m already sold on the first song. And… The second song goes hard too. Absolutely savage material without diluting the riffs.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Yeah, me too. Just starting the second track now. I really don’t hear any Possessed or Necrovore thus far, though. But it still rips.

          • I can hear some Possessed, but not Necrovore at all really. I actually hear a lot of Repulsion influence to be honest. Just that really abrasive blast-thrash attack. With more Bolzer styled vocals… A bit higher pitched.

          • Good shit Dubz. Thanks!

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Seeing that Death cover annoyed me though. Evil Dead is a great track, but bands need to stop covering it.

          • I didn’t even notice that. Agreed… Great track off of the best Death album IMO. Still need to pick up that reissue.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Yeah, I probably should get it too.

          • W.

Eh, those are their own words regarding Necrovore, but I think they were referring more to their early material. This full-length, not so much.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

          • Yeah, I read that on the Bandcamp page. They did that with a couple of their other releases too. Those I can see the comparison. Not so much on this one.

    • RJA

Did you see this sucker – color vinyl looks pretty sweet.

      • I did see that! Looks really fucking rad. I just wish that mix wasn’t so far up into the red though.

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Agreed. I’ll just stick with the demo reissue and split. That mix was fucking garbage.

        • RJA

It seemed overly heavy on the low end – I could control that a bit when I listened at home with the eq. Hopefully it was mastered for vinyl and not cut from digital files – doubt it though.

  • “Don’t look at me! I don’t have any makeup on!”

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

There are some serious cringe-inducing band names this week.

    • “Them”

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

That one doesn’t bother me as much as Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard

        • Spear

Clouds Taste Satanic is the worst one for me. Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard sounds a little self-aware. At least, I hope it is.

          • It’s even lamer because “Clouds Taste Metallic” was a Flaming Lips record from the 90s.

          • RJA

I assumed it was a play on that – it is right?

          • It has to be, right? I don’t think that’s a reference to anything else.

          • Abradolf Lincler

or clouds actually do taste satanic, not metallic

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            Yes that is worse.

    • Joaquin Stick

Is “Howling in the Fog” technically another “wolf” named band?

    • tigeraid

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard spent so much time getting high and thinking up band names that they forgot to write any music.

    • ME GORAK™✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

“It’s a name that we took from a book by an author called Wilbur Smith. It was called Opet without the H at the end and it was the city [built by an Egyptian culture that reached Africa two thousand years ago]. It was like a science fiction type of book. The novel is called The Sunbird.”

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Seax is pretty jamming Speed Metal!
    Falsetto screams>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Everyone needs ETERNAL CHAMPION in their life.

    • tigeraid

      Riffs for daaaaaaays.

  • Deathcult >>>>
    Snack mixes are okay too.

  • Anyone check out the new album from That Band Which Used to Have Alyssa White-Gluz As Their Lead Vocalist? I dunno if I can pause Hawt Dad long enough to sample it

    • EsusMoose

      I might maybe

    • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Isn’t that The Agonist? And if it is, why do I know that? Anyway, back to Deathcult.

      • Bro, my brain is full up of dumb information like that.

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

I really hate my brain. Full of stupid shit.

          • God

I can remember that Chris Jericho has a terrible band by the name of Fozzy that’s been active since 1999, but I cant remember where my goddamn keys are.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

      • KSoFM plz! Alyssa is pretty, that’s how we know who they are. (Well I’ll admit to liking a lot of their stuff when she was the vokillist.)
And by the way…….which one of our accounts has been hacked? We both like Deathcult? Jajaja, sweet!

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

It was all too soon McNulty. The more that Deathcult album progressed, the more generic it sounded. Just boring riffs. I need more shit like this, personally.

          • Rules!

          • it’s cause I said I liked them, right?!?! I promise I won’t say anything about Obscure Burial.
But yeah, bands need to inject a little extra something into the riffs to keep the engine running… They could a little shot o’ whiskey in their corn flakes

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Hahaha, nope, not because of you. The album just seemed to flat-line among all the generic riffs.

    • God

I did! Liked it quite a bit. Although it was more by the numbers than I was hoping for. The last album was such an upturn musically and lyrically from their previous efforts IMO. So I was hoping it would keep going on that trend. But hey, still good.

  • Ooh, new Negura Bunget and Alcest! AND Winterfylleth! Shit, wish I was in the mood for atmospheric BM right now. Fucking office job.

    • Joaquin Stick

I’ll be staring at my twitter feed, waiting for someone to post a full Alcest stream for the rest of the week.

  • Scrimm

Cant wait to get my hands on that Asphyx

    • nbm02ss

It’s getting reviewed really well. I can’t wait, either.

  • God

Damn eastern front was disappointing. How more by-the-numbers black metal can you get?

  • tigeraid

WTF, no main post about Eternal Champion, aka AUTOMATIC ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!?!?!?

    • Whoooo?

      • tigeraid

        Richter pls!

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Plants ‘n Stuff is a tag we need to see more often.

  • Dave Vincent’s Perm

Fucking osmose out of stock of the Stillbirth Machine reissue

  • Waynecro

Yo, those Algos songs are pretty dope. Also, UNYIELDING LOVE!!!
