This Toilet Tuesday (9/2/2014)

Greetings, flushers. I come to you today bearing good and bad news. The good news is that, as ever, the forces of the toilet have marshaled on, bringing you the hottest new releases the world of metal has to offer. The sad news is that I will no longer be curating This Toilet Tuesday. However, do not despair, as I’m leaving this column in the more than capable hands of Spear, the true workhorse behind the Toilet who was already providing you with a ton of great content. Although my cheeks are vacating the seat, you will get a familiar feel and warmth from Spear’s posterior, and you’ll continue to receive the same regular updates you’re used to. So, without further ado, here’s the new and improved This Toilet Tuesday, as presented by Spear. -W.

Spear here.  Though the column has changed hands, rest assured that we will still be bringing you a heaping mass of quality new releases and poop jokes each week.  Flush on, friends!

khaossos

Khaossos – Eksistentialismi (Usva) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Kieroutunut Valo

Kieroutunut Valo. the lead track from Eksistentialismi, is a solid new black metal release. I would say that this track is a pretty by-the-numbers effort in BM, but Khaossos add a few interesting flourishes with spoken-word dialogue, minimal vocals, and a rather atmospheric and etheral outro. The word epic is far too overused today, so instead I’ll say that this song offers a good premonition of a much more interesting journey. Hopefully the rest of the album is engaging like this track. Did we forget a new release? Is there a way we could improve this list? Let us know in the comments below!

  • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

Man that In Flames is S.H.I.T.

  • Metaphysical Anus

No surpirse that In Flames released shit yet again.

  • Scrimm

I cant believe I listened to as much of that crap as I did. IF has sucked for some time but that’s ridiculous.

    • in flames went full-on retard*.

*this is a phrase that i’m borrowing from Tropic Thunder. i’m wholly against using the R-word in a negative connotation.

      • Scrimm

In this case it is completely acceptable.

      • Lord Ov Kapsko

        Rosenberg ?

    • Did they switch up their sound to try to be a bigger band? It seems like the sales bump they got was a temporary thing.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Flames_discography

      • W.

It’s just the same ol’, same ol’ mediocrity.

      • Scrimm

        How could ANYONE like this?

        • You got me brah. Sometimes you have to remember that Hagar-era VH outsold DLR-era VH and that nothing makes sense.

          • Scrimm

            This is true.

          • KJM

Nuh uh, Van Halen I and 1984 are Van Halen’s biggest sellers(over 10 million each). Nothing Hagar sang on came even close.

          • Had to look it up – the numbers aren’t what I expected BUT 5150 was their first record to go #1.

          • KJM

Chart wise, sure. However, if I’m not mistaken, just the combined sales of Van Halen I & 1984 have sold more than the entire Van Hagar catalog.

          • Was that the case upon release? Or has history corrected itself?

          • KJM

They’ve always been consistently good back catalog sellers. They sold quite well upon initial release too. “Running With The Devil” & “Ain’t Talking Bout Love” were all over the radio back then, to say nothing of “Jump”.

      • Link D. LeonhⒶrt V.

w00t.. reroute to remain outsold come clarity? wow!

  • Left out The Haunted – Exit Wounds

    • W.

Pretty sure that dropped last week. It was a lot better than their last album with Dolving.

        • W.

Ah. Gotcha. It’s been on Spotify. Curse these stupid staggered release dates.

          • Howard Dean

Staggered release dates that have albums dropping in Europe 3 weeks to a month before they hit North America really rustle my jimmies, especially since I am a purist who tries not to listen to an entire album until the CD is sitting in my grubby paws.

      • Metaphysical Anus

Wasn’t Sólstafir’s new album released this week over there? I don’t know if people consider them metal anymore, so that might by why you didn’t put it here.

        • Spear

Yeah, I’m going to stop posting staggered release dates unless they’re significantly far apart. Solstafir’s new album did come out here today, but it’s already been out for a week everywhere else.

          • Metaphysical Anus

            Ok, gotcha.

        • i think they owe you a stipend. i have heard the album and really like it.

          • Metaphysical Anus

            Good, good.

    • i might try reviewing it. the haunted were an extremely important gateway metal band for me in college. this album means something to me.

      • W.

        Do it, McNasty.

      • Xan

I listened to them last year and hated them but I listened to a few songs from the new album and then listened to a couple of their old albums and promptly slapped myself. I guess I just wasn’t in the right mind when I listened to them the first time because they have some great shit.

  • Howard Dean

That Khaossos track is really interesting. Might spring for the CD as it’s only 5 euro (not sure about shipping, though). Also, excited to check out new Dark Fortress. They’ve had a solid output for quite a few years now. Didn’t know they were signed to Century Media(?) Guess I never paid attention.

Also, that new In Flames sucks. A lot. What the fuck?! ’twas only mordbid curiosity that made me check that song out, as I’ve never really cared about this band. But wow. Shit Sandwich vs. Giant Douche.

    • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

At least it’s better than Nazareth

      • Howard Dean

They’re now like a slightly better Swedish version of Nazareth with better haircuts. But my fuck does IF’s music make me want to seppuku.

        • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

love that not available in European markets Suburban in the video.

      • Scrimm

Almost anything is better than that.

      • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Nazareth and In Flames are amazing! Why are you so cruel to Nazareth and In Flames? They’re so good! Just because you insulted Nazareth here’s their double live album. It levels most live albums from the era.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwKVmPxQXxU

        • KJM

I used to own “Hair Of The Dog” on vinyl but that’s it.

        • Lord Ov Kapsko

          It’s only snaz.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I like that you used the phrase Snaz as I bought their live album with that title yesterday from Amazon. It’s going to be here tomorrow due to two day Amazon Prime shipping.

          • Lord Ov Kapsko

I live in central evrope, amazon.co.uk is ridicvlousy expensive, US due to cheap dollar is oallright for me, but I have to wait for my stuff so long that I feel like a central evropean peasant… Oh wait.

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt

I’d be dubious on the shipping. Bandcamp says they are from Finland, and I’m pretty sure that’s a make-believe place. Make-believe shipping could be astronomical.

      • W.

You’re paying for all the overhead of having some guy pass it through the wardrobe.

      • Howard Dean

Good call. I’m glad you spotted that. Those semi-mythical ground-dwelling creatures known as the Finns are always trying to steal away money with their lies. Just look at that crazy Santa Claus myth. Thanks (make believe country) Finland. Thanks Obama.

    • W.

I thought Khaossos was pretty interesting. I wish the whole thing was streaming.

    • Yes, here’s hoping the Dark Fortress is good. Why is no one talking about them?

      • Howard Dean

I don’t know. But they’ve always been overlooked.

  • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

    Hammerfall is GLORY

    • W.

Their last couple ones weren’t very good, but their early discography is solid gold.

      • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

seems to be how it is with most legacy bands

        • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

the album cover is a return to form anyways. Been listening to them since the debut.

  • Link D. LeonhⒶrt V.

I have a really insane curiosity with the new In Flames. I’ve downloaded yesterday.. God help me, I will listen to it after the last Entombed album…

    • W.

I found a stream on Loudwire. It’s terribad.

      • Metaphysical Anus

        That’s an understatement.

    • Howard Dean

I’d plan to listen to the new In Flames only after you have jammed a screwdriver into your eardrums.

      • Link D. LeonhⒶrt V.

If the album is that bad i think you wouldn’t need the screwdriver 😛

      • Scrimm

It would still be extremely unpleasant. I want to find the guy who told me at a show years ago that they were the next Iron Maiden and beat the shit out of him.

        • W.

I’m about halfway through it. If it wasn’t, y’know, 9:30, I’d consider drinking after this.

        • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

          YOU MET JJD irl?

          • Scrimm

            HAHAHAHAHA I wonder….

        • if it was 10+ years ago, he would have been correct tho…

          • Scrimm

This was after reroute to remain came out.

          • W.

I like a couple songs from that album, but it was definitely the start for their steady decline.

          • Scrimm

            I actually did too.

          • onward with the shit beating!

      • I’d sooner listen to Five Finger Death Punch. Yea I said it.

        • Nordling Rites Ov Karhu

          You do not mean that!

        • Scrimm

Me too. and a run through of Emmure’s entire discography. this makes me wish for 40 + minutes of 01001010000100101 riffs.

        • KJM

Wow, really? Can’t be as bad as all THAT.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

These people do not understand its greatness. It is in my top 10 of the year with Behemoth, At The Gates. Vader, the new Exodus album, Godflesh and Fallujah. It’s not at the top but I’ll put it at number 6.

          • Metaphysical Anus

At The Gates and Godflesh haven’t even released their albums yet.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

They’re already on there as well as the Nazareth album from this year.

          • Nordling Rites Ov Karhu

Nazareth releasing an album this year?

          • Metaphysical Anus

You can’t put albums that you haven’t even listened to on your list!

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I listened to the Nazareth album and I listened to the Godflesh EP. Based off the EP Godflesh is on the list. I’m running out of space for the list from all the good stuff this year.

          • Putting In Flames and Nazareth on the same list as Godflesh is a fucking travesty.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Ain’t I great? I’ve said that I do like things that metalheads hate and I dislike things metalheads like. In Flames and Nazareth are things I like. It’s something I’m not going to be swayed from. It’s my opinion and you can judge it all you want but I will not back down from it. You can tell me to leave the Hall, but the truth is I was never in it to begin with.

          • As long as you know that your foul taste offends me.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Do I care if my taste offends you?

          • Christian Molenaar

OUT OF THE HALL AND INTO THE TOILET!!

*Flushes Janitor Tim Cruggan down the nastiest, rancid, piranha-filled TovH into the sewer ov obskurity and straight down to hell*

LIFELOVERS FLUSHED, LEFT AND RIGHT! THE FLUSH IS DIVINE, THE FLUSH IS RIGHT!

            Period!

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I’m not phased by that. In fact, I enjoy your attempts at calling me out on my apparently atrocious taste. I consider my taste different from quite a bit of your tastes. There is no way I am going to back down even when everyone is against this opinion. I am going to keep defending the new In Flames album and if I have to sacrifice my trueness I will. I admit I am a poser when it comes to music but my posing never made people think less of me in high school or my current life.

          • Xan

I like Nazareth too but I’ve never been able to get into In Flames.

          • KJM

No love for Triptykon or The Wounded Kings?

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Tryptikon is on there. The Wounded Kings are not as I don’t really enjoy them.

          • W.

That Triptykon album is solid. It’s on my “maybe top ten” list. It’s going to be hard narrowing it all down.

          • Scrimm

            It’s worse.

          • Metaphysical Anus

            A whole lot worse.

          • Well, I never really got into in flames when there were considered good, so I highly doubt the new stuff is worth bonjanges fecal matter.

        • Janitor Jim Dvggan

FFDP has nothing on the new In Flames album! It’s so much better than Sounds of a Playground Fading and it levels FFDP’s discography.

    • W.
    • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Am I the only person who loves the new In Flames album? It was up there with Colony and Clayman in my opinion! I can’t stop listening to it as it’s so good!

      • W.

You are. Literally everyone else here hated it. I listened to the whole thing.

        • Janitor Jim Dvggan

How can everyone hate it so much? I know it’s not at the level of Jester Race or Lunar Strain but that is because it’s not supposed to be! It’s a different In Flames and it is way better than Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to Your Escape.

          • Scrimm

I can hate it because it’s complete garbage. The whole thing, and I used to love that band.

          • they pulled a Genesis* (Collins era), they pulled a Jefferson Starship, they pulled a…

*i have come to accept most Collins-era Genesis, but it was quite the drastic change.

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I am listening to it for the third time today. I love it so much.

          • Metaphysical Anus

Don’t say that! Never say that you accept the Collins-era Genesis! Jimmy, where are you?

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I love Collins era Genesis as much as Gabriel era Genesis. I admit that Gabriel era was amazing but for what it was Collins era was amazing too.

          • Metaphysical Anus

Liking Collins-era Genesis is the only thing morally wrong.

          • …look out your kitchen window

          • Metaphysical Anus

I see an apple tree. Oh the irony.

          • W.

Here’s the thing. Compared to all the unique and actually innovative metal coming out nowadays, I have no idea why anyone would choose to listen to In Flames. It may not be the worst In Flames album ever, but there is way better music being released just today, let alone every other week this year. You’re totally entitled to your personal opinion, but my opinion (and it seems pretty much everyone else’s) is that this album is terrible when compared to all the great metal coming out this year.

          • Scrimm

I would rate it as the worst. 5/5 flushes.

      • Nordling Rites Ov Karhu

It’s the best since the Jester Race (Yeah, I didn’t like Whoracle that much) or maybe Colony (Clayman didn’t click either).

      • Link D. LeonhⒶrt V.

Good for you! I enjoyed half of Come Clarity and A Sense of Purpose.. But this one is too much unidimensional for me… I’m not bashing at the old ‘new inflames vs antique in flames’.. it’s just i didn’t liked the compositions here, it’s the same as the last album, to me… just plain songwriting and whiny lyrics..

  • Tyree

    Vermin Womb >>>>>>>

Really diggin that OPHIS sound too.

    • W.

      I’ve got it queued up.

    • Occams_Razor_Ramon

I’m three songs deep and Vermin Womb is killer. Total filth.

      • W.

It’s quite good. Essential ear-bleach after that abortion of an In Flames album.

        • Tyree

Typing “In Flames” just makes me feel gross let alone listening to them.

    • Xan

I’m pretty sure I leveled a parking deck with that album. The inside of my car was so covered in filth from it, I couldn’t see through the windows very well.

      • Tyree

Drive with caution while listening to Vermin Womb.

  • Randall Thor

Looks like I have a lot of stuff to listen to this week!

  • Spear

I’m personally digging Barbarous quite a bit. The title is dumb, but the music is solid.

  • Christian Molenaar

You forgot about Jute Gyte, and right after it was posted in the RHRC!
    https://jutegyte.bandcamp.com/album/ressentiment
Also, review coming soon, or something.

    • Spear

Duly noted. I’ll have to start paying better attention to what’s posted in the group.

  • That Ichor is good shit. I liked their first album.

  • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

  • i forgot how much i enjoy Bloodsoaked! thanks for the reminder Spear

as far as that new In Flames, Janitor Jim Duggan really likes it, says its their best since Clayman. so there’s that.

    • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

and we all know that everything he says is a fact.

    • IMO, that’s not saying much.

  • Stockhausen

Good selections, Spear. I have much to listen to as I bid a sputtering, crying farewell to our former president.

    • W.

I’ll still be in here making poop jokes from time to time, so don’t cry for me, Argentina.

      • Guppusmaximus

Are you sure you don’t mean “Don’t cry for me, Velveeta”?!

        • W.

No, I’m not sure. In fact, I’m not sure of anything other than the fact that this new In Flames album sucks.

          • Guppusmaximus

Well, that album and the Madonna song have a lot in common:)

          • Spear

“All I know is that I know nothing, and also that the new In Flames blows hard.”

    • Metaphysical Anus

What does this mean? Is your former president leaving somewhere?

  • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

    redrum redrum redrum redrum redrum

  • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

So guys, anyone see what comes with the new exodus album? http://shop.nuclearblast.com/static/articles/103/103516-4.jpg/1000×1000.jpg

    • Janitor Jim Dvggan

WHEN DOES THIS COME OUT? I MUST HAVE IT. I’m not one to be this excited over an album but when Exodus releases a new album you buy it.

      • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

21st next month! I’m either getting that or the digipak with the shirt and poster.

        • Janitor Jim Dvggan

          Yay! I want the flask!

          • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

It’s a beautiful flask, and I do need a flask, I have to walk alot, so it’s practical, even for non detective style boozing purposes

    • it’ll be interesting to hear what they’ve got up their sleeves. i like rob dukes, sad to see him go.

      • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

Steve Souza is back on board, so I’m expecting good things. Maybe they’ll top Tempo.

        • shovel-headed kill machine > tempo
          i know i’m in the minority here…

          • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

Although I stand firmly by Tempo, I can see the appeal of SHKM

          • W.

I actually really liked their last two albums.

          • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

I loved Exhibit B, I wasn’t too big on Let There Be Blood though. Let it never be said that Exodus can’t write a riff, as they proved they still can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u95JTXzyHyA

          • W.

Was the Sun is My Destroyer on Exhibit B? That one did it for me.

          • The Satan Ov Nvklear Hell

Aye aye! Great album over all, I feel people ragged on it as it was during one of the most annoying points of the current thrash-naisance

          • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

it’s because us old fogey’s grew up with baloff and souza in the 80’s. Dukes vocal approach and stage persona is also the polar opposite of souza. If they make somthing as good as WM it would be great. Joey is a better vocalist than souza although they are both great frontmen. I think part of the reason joey is still singing great is that he basically had a 20 year vacation while the rest of anthrax were slogging it out on the road with bush basically spinning their wheels.

      • Flushgod Apocalypse

‘Children Of A Worthless God’ is one of my all time favorite thrash tracks.

    • Occams_Razor_Ramon

I already have a Skeletonwitch flask, but maybe it’s time to start a collection

      • W.

I’ve got several metal band shot glasses because they were giving them out at Mayhem a few years back.

        • Metaphysical Anus

I have Death and Darkthrone coffee mugs.

    • Xan

Fuck yes! Something else for me to fill with water!

    • Lord Ov Kapsko

The Killing Gods limited CD is pretty dope.

      • Scrimm

It is I have that. The bonus Ministry cover is really good.

        • Lord Ov Kapsko

Misery Index is so based. Gallows Humor is such a killer!

    • Howard Dean

You wait until Kerry King finds out about this. He’ll beat Gary Holt with a cane and make him play behind a curtain when he’s on stage with Slayer, and will order deluxe bundles be made with the next Slayer album that include removable head tattoos, sunglasses, a shitty plastic spiked arm gauntlet, and a flask that says “Kerry F’ing King” on the side.

  • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Thank you for bringing up Meridian. They are from my area and one of the people in it is a friend of mine from high school. The guy’s name is Chris Titer and we did blood drives together in high school. They’re doing a show near me on September 13th at a place called My Place Pizza which is a pizza place/ concert venue. If I can and if you’d approve I’ll try to get an interview with him as we know each other.

    • W.

I listened to a couple tracks out of morbid curiosity. I can guarantee that our readership will not be interested.

      • Janitor Jim Dvggan

I see. How about this news I just read? It’s very sad as I was a fan of this band.

        • W.

Uhh, I don’t think people here are very much into classic rock.

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

this is JJD’s blog W! how easily you forget!

          • W.

            Mea culpa!

          • Janitor Jim Dvggan

It is tragic. I was bringing it up as I just read it. God has been taking a lot of good people lately.

          • W.

Hey man, I see you’re starting to get a bit riled up that people are bashing your opinions. Here’s the thing. If you put an opinion out on the internet, you’re opening yourself up to the criticism of the community in which you are stating your opinion. If the community doesn’t like it, that doesn’t make them closed-minded, it just means that they don’t share your opinion. There is a lot of good natured disagreement on this site. A lot of people hate power metal, but several of us open ourselves up to the criticism of the community routinely by posting about it. If you want to have a better time in this community, you don’t have to stop liking the things you like. You just have to understand that people are going to disagree with you (often strongly) regarding matters of taste and opinion. If that bothers you, I don’t think there’s anything that can be done about it.

          • Scrimm

I just about said the same thing before I realized I hadn’t refreshed the page in a while. Very well put, W.

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Lots of people here are into classic rock! There’s JAG, and Conan, and, uh…..hmmmm….

          • Xan

I enjoy classic rock as long as it isn’t KISS, AC/DC, or Guns and Roses.

          • pigchop

BOOOOO! All three have quite a few solid tunes.

POWERAGE! One of the greatest rock n’ fuckin’ roll records ever released!

          • Xan

            I hate them all.

          • pigchop

            Absolutely incorrect.

          • W.

            I stand corrected.

    • J.R.

September 13th? My neighbor’s band “Angels Revenge” is having an album release party on that day.(Blood Sweat and Fears is the album) It’s good…I guess. Female fronted “biker bar” kind of sound. Their old guitarists quit bc “AR” wanted to tour Europe but…didnt have the means. So I’m working with the guitarists on some material that is pretty dope.

  • Psyched for that Code Orange review later today!

  • ..

  • KJM

Let the record show that I have no strong feelings one way or another about new In Flames as I have never been a fan.

  • Metaphysical Anus

I just found out that Cannibal Corpse is releasing a new album. I seem to be slow. What I thought about it
    http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/322453-wow-its-fcking-nothing

    • WHAT do they put in the water over there???

      • Metaphysical Anus

I would guess water. I never cared for Cannibal Corpse. I think that they’re boring.

        • you lose a point in my mind. but you’ve got over a billion so you’re good 😉

          • Metaphysical Anus

You also lose points for listening to Iggy Azalea. You’re still my sweetie pie.

          • Scrimm

She’s a hell of a lot better than the new In Lames.

          • Metaphysical Anus

            I’m afraid I have to agree…

      • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

McNulty – just found out about this picture leak an hour ago. Where do i go to see this great stuff, Help !

  • Nordling Rites Ov Karhu

The Dark Fortress song was better than expected, also props for Mastodoncore. Not many times did I know exactly what the song sounded like before I ever gave the band a listen

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt

The deep vocals are a nice change of pace for BM. I like the song, but that album title seems like it would be the sequel to “One Night In Paris.”

  • Gurp

    New Septycal Gorge?

  • Scrimm

Holy Shit I clicked on that Meridian link because of the lolbuttz description and its as bad as that In Flames. Flush this week.

    • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

Yo bro that shit was such shit that it flushed the toilet on it’s own bro!

      • Scrimm

        That it did.

  • Yob?

    • W.

Good call, Riff! I apologize for forgetting it.

  • Janitor Jim Dvggan

Here’s a tribute to the singer of a band I enjoyed almost as much as Journey. RIP bro, your band was the reason I enjoy the type of rock you, Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon and Foreigner play.

TUESDAY MOVIE NIGHT!!! For tonight’s film, I have chosen Steve DiMarco’s SPIKE OF LOVE. hahaha – it’s a fucking trip! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgExyibqctw
    Enjoy!

  • Scrimm

I wonder why I’ve been listening to power metal today. So unlike me. Started out with Gorguts, GSR and Himsa, and now this… I think this site s doing weird things to me.

  • Zero Kelvin

Digging all the Melodeath this week!

  • J.R.

That Lauxnos, Pohjast, and Signs tracks/albums are pretty good.

Thanks toilet! It is amazing what crawls up out of the pipes and bites you on the cheeks.
