This Toilet Tuesday (8/8/17)

Holy hell it’s another Toilet Tuesday! Black and death metal fans (i.e. most of you) should be excited, because there’s a lot of cool stuff on the way. Highlights include IncantationPyrrhon, and Cormorant, but Hans and I have selected a couple gems you may have missed otherwise. Check it out!

Exoskelett – Collected Bones (Hammerheart Records) [Thrash]

Exoskelett hark back to that primordial soup that death and thrash sprang from with their production, vocals, and some mean riffs and fast drums (“Ossuary”, “Dig Deeper”, “Void”). However, the songs are also heavily streaked with doomy occult rock (“Grind Your Bones…”, “Bloodstained”) and perhaps even a dash of post-punk (the bridge of “Buried Upside Down”, for example). As convoluted as that may sound on paper, Exoskelett coat everything in a punk-ish zero-fucks attitude and stick to a bare-bones approach to every genre they toss in, which somehow glues it all together surprisingly well. 8/11/17 (Hans)

Demon Eye – Prophecies and Lies (Soulseller Records) [Doom]
Listen to “The Waters and the Wild,” “Dying For It”

I just want to quickly point these guys out in case they’re still under anyone’s radar. Imagine earlier The Sword running into an excellent Deep Purple cover band and jamming with them in the classiest fashion. Give it a go if you dig proto-metal classics as well as recent stuff like Dunsmuir, i.e. well-done retro rock that doesn’t devolve into shtick and strikes a balance between doomy and upbeat. 8/11/17 (Hans)

Blood of Seklusion – Servants of Chaos (FDA Records) [Death Metal]
Listen to “Servants of Chaos”

From the Blood of Seklusion Bandcamp page: “…they are be able to spread the old spirit like an (sic) Volvo driving Elk with an intact HM-2 pedal inside his stomach.” Please ruminate on this for a moment, then jam to their sweet Dismember-style riffing. There’s nothing new to hear, but “Servants of Chaos” promises the album as a whole will be a good time. 8/11/17 (Spear)
