This Toilet Tuesday (8/30/16)

Greetings, friends, and welcome to another round of This Toilet Tuesday! It’s a bit on the slow side this week, but there are a couple great albums to be had. Stockhausen and I have picked out a couple of our favorites, but there are more yet below. Share your own picks and let us know if we missed anything!

Ayahuasca – Huayra (Independent) [Death Thrash]

Have you worn out your copy of Vektor’s Terminal Redux? Do you need something else after your 500th listen through Ripper’s Experiment of Existence? Ayahuasca has you covered. No, not that Ayahuasca. No, not that Ayahuasca either. The one from South America. Anyway, you can probably guess from the above comparisons that these guys show up to thrash. And thrash they do! Ayahuasca barrels head first through 36 minutes of absolutely ripping tunes, adding some extra muscle through a distinct death metal influence. A gorgeous dance-like song breaks up the momentum in the middle of the album, showcasing the band’s clear Colombian roots, and a strange groove moment makes an appearance in track 7. Minus those occasions, this album is an ever-expanding ball of fury. The raw, unhinged energy builds and builds (almost) to the end of the album, shoved forward through fire-spitting vocals and teeth-gritting riffs. The last track, however, subverts expectations and closes the album with a hauntingly tuneful song in a traditional Colombian style. This album is a ton of raucous fun from start to finish, and contains just enough variety and fury to never lose your interest. 9/3/16 (Stockhausen)

Mesarthim – .- -… … . -. -.-. . (Independent) [-… .-.. .- -.-. -.- / — . – .- .-..]

As with most things, I was a little slow on the uptake with MesarthimIsolate didn’t really resonate with me upon its release last year, but I’ve warmed up to spacey black metal a lot since then. As far as that goes, it really doesn’t get much better than this. Absence is great for gazing into the stars and contemplating the glorious insignificance of your existence, or just to use for chill background music (well, mostly chill, barring a weird breakdownish part near the end). There’s not much more I can say beyond what Joe, Randall, and 365 covered on yesterday’s podcast, so I’ll say this: go get it now. 8/28/16 (Spear)

Neurogenic – Ouroboric Stagnation (Comatose Records) [Brutal Death Metal]
Listen to “Spirited Bloody Emesis,” “Ouroboric Stagnation”

On their debut full-length, Neurogenic have created a death metal album so brutal it wasn’t allowed through customs. Seriously, we sent this promo to one of our writers a couple of months back, and the authorities just would not let it into their country. Fairly certain Ouroboric Stagnation was detained on the grounds that it is essentially a series of weaponised riffs designed to kill literally everything. Comprised of members from Russia, Ukraine, Italy, and the USA, Neurogenic play what I believe to be the near-perfect balance between guttural filth and extreme technicality; the ridiculous artificial harmonics on this album alone are worth the admission fee. Featuring a bunch of guest spots from musicians hailing from all over the world and more scintillating sonic savagery than you thought possible, this is not one to miss for fans of Disgorge (USA), Putridity (Italy), and Disentomb (Australia). 9/3/16 (Lacertilian)

      Fuck yea!

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Pretty killer 3 tracks. It actually came out yesterday.

        • more beer

I am listening to it now while I am getting ready for work.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            How do you like it?

          • more beer

It is good so far. Glad it is only 3 songs. Only because I need to get my ass to work. So I can listen to the whole thing before I leave.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

    • sweetooth0

oh shit, that one came in right under my radar. getting on this stat!!

  • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

    Major key black metal? Really?

    • Spear

      It’s certainly something.

      • It’s definitely not exactly a brand new, completely unprecedented thing.

    • Those clean vox are bold. Visionary, even.

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Best clean vocals on a black metal release:

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

this youtube channel has gotten me through some brutally boring paperwork days

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            They play some good stuff

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Can’t be better than early Ulver. And this sounds like Garm to me. Not bad so far though. Not digging the fake drums though. Always seems to hinder a release when programmed drums are used.

          • Spear

Better it’s programmed drums than anything else, though. I came across a tech death album recently where everything but the vocals were programmed and it was completely unlistenable.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Well, that doesn’t surprise me.

          • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

            This kills the listening experience.

But Caladan Brood slays. Found them on reddit some time ago and instantly became a fan. Turns out the name isn’t inspired by Dune but that’s what made me check them out to begin with.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Lol, I actually never made the possible Dune connection until now.
The Malazan Book of The Fallen is worth checking out too if you’re into that sort of hing though.

          • Spear

Oh yeah, Caladan Brood is excellent. I’ve been jamming them hard lately, and I just started reading the first Malazan Book of the Fallen novel. Good stuff.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

When the clean vocals kicked in the first time I heard it, I was pretty floored, I absolutely love this album.

These dudes are Summoning worship through and through, so while I normally enjoy real drums I think the program ones really helps their aesthetic.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Of all the Summoning-worship bands, Caladan Brood have one of the strongest identity of their own.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            This is very true.

          • Counterpoint: Blut Aus Nord, Summoning

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Fake drums are fake drums.

          • Your mom is a fake drum.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

My mom is a lot of things, but she can play a mean blastbeat on a real drumset, bro. Does your mom blast??? BRO?!?!?

          • N-no…

    • Dubbbz

I was browsing bandcamp last week and came across those tracks. Blech.

    • Ayreonaut

welcome to 2016.. Where everything means nothing anymore

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Well, I guess I’ll go back to Fimbulwinter.

  • Joaquin Stick

I’m no expert in Dutch, but I believe “en doodenakkers tot den horizon” roughly translates to “the manboobs on the horizon”

    • Kathleeneford4

Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family! !ic932t:
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

wow I really like this Singularity track

    • Spear

Full stream is going up today, likely in Weebland.

      • Elegant Gazing Globe

Jack Bauer would really like this I think. I don’t know where weebland is. That’s probably good

        • Spear

Jack Bauer is the one who made me aware of it in the first place. Weebland is MI.

          Edit: the blog, not Michigan.

          • Weebland would be a great sub-blog name for anime garbage.

          • Spear

Putting it in my “ideas for columns” folder right now.

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

I should proceed directly to the interrogation room for assuming JB hasn’t heard this. I’ll watch for someone to post the soundcloud so I can bypass BBN

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Isolate didn’t click with me like it did with many others, but I’ve grown to like it more. Haven’t been spinning it too much though.
This new one should fit right into the Mare Cognitum/Sol/Aureole- kick I’ve been trying to get myself into.

    • Joaquin Stick

I like Isolate, but the most recent EP (Spire) is kinda meh.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I’ve not listened to wither of the ep’s yet (the other being Pillars), but I heard Dubya calling it (Spires) ‘electronic’, which didn’t bode well.

        • Joaquin Stick

Pillars is the better of the two.

      • Dubbbz

Spire only has one metal track. Out of two tracks on the EP :/

        • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Considering the album is his third release this year, his debut was released two years ago and last year didn’t go entirely without new music either – I can’t really fault him for having half of an EP filled with not-metal.
Though it’s gotta be annoying as hell.

    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Mixing was a deterrent for my enjoyment on that one. I really enjoy lower fi on things, but my ears still fight me when a song has mixed fi sounds. All the keyboard stuff sounds like it was recorded and mixed for a different album. It has an…isolate(d) sound if you will

  • Dave Vincent’s Perm

Too late for riffs but whatever, about 1:05 into this

  • These Unfathomable Ruination tracks are crushing my dick.

  • Scrimm

Double dose of New Standard Elite! Nice.

    • *SLAMS*

    • We are definitely not starved for brutal/tech this year.

  • Unrelated, kinda: Bought the new KSE release yesterday evening. Damn it is way better than I thought it would be. Enjoying it thoroughly.

    • The Tetrachord of Archytas

It’s definitely worth a couple listens and then throwing it on your gym jams

  • Abradolf Lincler

    Cumbeast . . . cmon guys

  • Hans Gruber

Haven’t listened to Cumbeast in quite some time. I think they were less entertaining than Vaginal Bear Trap, but I’ll check this out later.

  • James

The Orphaned land thing seems neat.

  • Commodus, Flusher Of Worlds

Ayahuasca’s music is pretty fucking good, but they REALLY need to redo the mixing.

  • Waynecro

Mesarthim and Neurogenic are pretty swell, and I’m psyched about the new Banisher, Singularity, and Unfathomable Ruination albums. I could definitely rock Cosmic Vortex and Potlatch in the gym.

  • Hi there! McNulty here. The new Surgeon is suuuuuuper good!
