This Toilet Tuesday (8/16/16)

Welcome, fellows of the flush, to another round of This Toilet Tuesday! Most of this week’s fare has sunk unceremoniously to the bottom of the bowl, but a few floaters have risen to the surface in a greasy display of dominance over the foul dregs beneath them. We’ve picked out a few of our favorites, but there are a couple more lurking in that list below. Start poking through this mess and let us know if there’s anything we missed!

feral light

Feral Light – A Sound of Moving Shields (Independent) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Baptized in Shellfire”

In the world of near infinite supply when it comes to extreme metal to stream on the internet, bands must ensure that they have the skills to meet demand and stand out from the crowd. A band that can grab your attention with a single track is even more, but “Baptized in Shellfire” is pretty rad. Between those classic, thrash influenced riffs, the slight dissonant bends in the middle, and the tinny drums that sound just great on my laptop speakers, my interest is definitely piqued. I am pressing A to hear more.” FFO: Triptykon, Predatory Light, Midnight 8/19/16 (W.)

Bewitcher – Bewitcher (Diabolic Might/Divebomb) [Black/Speed Metal]

I have a lot of respect for 12-bar blues’ humble origins, but at this point, it’s a horse whose corpse has been ground into dust by musicians the world over for the past 115 years or so. Bewitcher are either blissfully ignorant of this or simply don’t care, but I’m willing to let that slide in this case. “Speed ‘Til You Bleed” takes the I-IV-V progression and makes it cool again with grimy vocals and no-fucks-given riffing. I hope the rest of the album mixes it up a bit, but for now I’m content to bask in the speed. 8/18/16 (Spear)

apothic gloom

Skeletonwitch – The Apothic Gloom (Prosthetic Records) [Black Thrash]

Dubz already covered this pretty thoroughly in his review, but I feel like adding my two cents. As he pointed out, The Apothic Gloom divides neatly into two familiar tracks and two with some new tricks, but all of it is tonally very distinct from their past work. Whether the changes have been spurred by the split with Chance or are there to complement Adam’s vocal style, the new music feels a lot more… well, gloomy. Regardless, the new tunes slay, and the production is a marked improvement on Serpents Unleashed (or at the very least, there isn’t any ear-splitting clipping coming from the cymbals anymore). This is the start of a new era for the band, one that I wholeheartedly look forward to watching unfold. 8/19/16 (Spear)

Hellbringer – Awakened From The Abyss (High Roller Records) [Thrash]

SSSLLLLAAAAYYYYEEEERRRRRR! Sorry, I can’t help myself. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a release sound so similar to Hell Awaits/Haunting The Chapel-era Slayer. Awakened From The Abyss is pure Slaytanic worship. On this, their second album, Australian trio Hellbringer have definitely lived up to their name. Every single track echoes moments from thrash’s halcyon days of the mid-80’s. There is not a moment during its 32-minute run-time that this record is not riffing your face off. As soon as I bought this, my town ran out of beer, the neighbours moved out, and I can’t hear anymore. I’m sure it’s all just a coincidence though. 8/12/16. (Lacertilian)

    • This is real good, bud.

      • Gonna have to buy this.

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Only getting a vinyl release, can’t recall if you were into vinyl.

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

    Yay, Sabaton!

  • Totally forgot about that Demonomancy/Witchcraft split and Spire release. Spire is super underrated. I highly recommend checking them out. Dark shit.

  • Howard Dean

HD Picks of the Week… Let’s check it out!!

This week we’re checkin out these three dangus-worthy gems:

-Rex Mundi (for the uninitiated, 2011’s debut IHVH provides a bit of color on what you can expect in a listening experience).

-Hellbringer ( I recommend it, of corpse!)

-Voids of Vomit (killer old school death metal EP not for the weak or weary!)×9/960.jpg

  • Ass ‘n Butt.

    • u cant have 1 without teh other!

      • Nice Link.

        • I knew you and HD would back me up, jajajaja.

I recommended that movie this week to this awful co-workers that tries so hard to be “hipster movie fans” and they didn’t liked it because it was a “nasty movie”.

What a bunch of stupid people. Is a great movie, even if you don’t dig the nastiness is a very round and well put movie.

Next week I will recommend some metal to them.

          • Darren Aronofsky needs to step up his game again. Black Swan was his last good movie.

          • I dug Black Swan too, bro!

          • That movie is so suffocating. There are some really terrifying moments in that movie.

          • Stanley

Noah was poop. Even Jennifer Connelly couldn’t save it.

          • I made the right decision on not seeing it. It’s pretty sad when Jennifer Connelly can’t even save a movie.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

          • Gawdamn.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

          • Wow, I didn’t realize Jennifer Connelly was 45. Still a fox.

          • I’m a sucker for big, dark eyes….like Toilet heartthrob Aubrey Plaza

          • Like staring into the abyss, jajaja

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

My top three dark-haired, dark-eyed ladies, in no order….

          • Saw Eliza Dushku in True Lies this weekend.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

A little too young in that one, hahaha. That movie rules though.

          • Agreed. Bad ass movie.

          • Mmmmmm
Hopefully Allison Brie makes the list somewhere

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Excellent choice, but she has blue eyes…..she is so fucking hot.

          • Howard Dean

Is the top one the chick that was in the Nickelodeon movie Snow Day? Looks like her. The scene where she goes to the window with the see through shirt on was a favorite of my youth. I remember thinking, “holy shit, did Nickelodeon really just show nips?”

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Shit, I don’t know!!

          • Howard Dean
          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Yowza!! I think you’re right!

          • Commodus, Flusher Of Worlds
          • Stanley

45 is old af. Hang on a minute.

          • She don’t look 45 is all I’m sayin’

          • Dubbbz

Neither does Stan. Still breaking hearts, that devil.

          • I thought he wore that corpse paint to cover up his old ugly face. Guess he fooled us all.

          • Simon PhoenixKing Rising

            Yeah Connelly is just…man.

          • Commodus, Flusher Of Worlds

Hot, but good lawdy, she has some big ass buck teeth! *feeds her some apples and hay through the fence*

          • *scrambles to find more pennies*

          • I read that as penises, GL. Sorry.

          • I see nothing wrong with you interpretation, friend.

          • Howard Dean
          • tigeraid

            God. That movie.

          • My friends and I tried to watch this tripping on mushrooms once. It was too intense and we had to turn it off.

          • Joaquin Stick

This sounds like the worst idea imaginable.

          • BRO!

Thanks for the Harakiri for the Sky recommendation. I’m digging this so much <3

          • Joaquin Stick

Glad you dig it! I am surprised by how much attention they have been getting. I thought it was above average for sure, but far more niche than anything.

          • That was my idea, I’m full of those.

          • I’d try it

          • Commodus, Flusher Of Worlds

Lol, one of my friends way back when decided to take acid and go see The Passion Of The Christ. That ended up as horribly as you’d imagine.

          • sweetooth0

nastiness is my bread and butter!

    • Commodus, Flusher Of Worlds

BTW, thanks for the Bandcamp gift!

    • haha, i made the same joke on AMG

  • Celtic Frosty

Damn, new Winterfylleth is out this week? I’m gonna cop that shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

    • Stanley

I already pre-ordered. No preview tracks out, so it was a gamble.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Hellbringer slays, sound pretty much exactly like Slayer, except good.
Kinda like Dormant Ordeal and Decapitated.

    • Lacertilian

You ain’t gon rustle me today Bear.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I seek to rustle none. I’ve only ever sought the inner unrustleness.

  • RepostedAvengedSevenfoldFan2

This is stupid. All you tasteless freaks decided to choose bands like this over what really deserves to be #1. Every song by Disturbed has meaning and you can connect to every line. Don’t forget the satisfying deep voice of Draiman and the bands heavy hardcore song. Though it’s not quite true metal, it still produces a beautiful hard sound that no other metal band can reciprocate.

-Killerontheloose89 posted, Top Ten Best Rock Bands Of All Time

  • A lot of good music this week, bros and sis! <3

My picks to be included in the #LinkNotebook this week: Winterfylleth, Skeletonwitch, Marsh Dweller, Sabaton (since Boss recommended a song of their new album to me, they got my approval too), Blood Incantation and Bewitcher.

    Thanks, Dubs, Spear and Lacertilian!

    • Spear

Marsh Dweller sounded pretty good, but I haven’t been able to spend much time with it yet.

    • What do you think about that Pink Floyd-ian first track from Blood Incantation? The 13 minute ripper

      • Haven’t heard the whole album.

        And, y’know. I’m not a big Pink Floyd fan 😉 😉 😉

        • You would…..n’t be 🙂

          • What I tried to say is that I don’t know about the Pink Floyd-ian first track because I don’t know too much of that band, and haven’t heard the full album, of course!

  • Man I got REALLY excited when I saw Armory, but it’s not the power metal one 🙁

  • tigeraid

New Sabaton, Khemmis, Skeletonwitch and Testament on the horizon… Perhaps 2016 will be a killer year for metal yet!

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Man, I’ve never been a Sabaton fan, but they’ve had their moments.
These new song though… shooting myself in the leg seems fun compared to them.

      • tigeraid

I respect your opinion. I find them hit or miss, in that so many of their songs kind of meld together in the same sound. But when they hit their high it’s fucking epic. And they’re an amazing live performance.

        • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

They were fun live the first time. After that it seemed way too choreographed, 100% same show, same speeches, to the last step.

  • Spear

Not new (or coming out this week), but I feet the feeling some of you might be interested in this (RFI):

    • Stanley

    • Howard Dean

      Wulkanaz >>>>>>>>

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

I ordered one of those Hellbringer records, so good.

  • Abradolf Lincler

that Feral Light is kinda hot fire

  • Guppusmaximus

For those of you who dug Porcupine Tree, Gavin has found a new home and it’s a perfect fit.

  • 365ChaosRiddenDays

Feral Light, Bewitcher, Skeletonwitch, Hellbringer are good and I have these news for you: along with the streaming of Inquisition’s new album:

  • sweetooth0

Just saw Skeletonwitch last night. I was sort of on the fence regarding Adam Clemans, but I gotta say he killed it live, and now I’m totally on board with this new era of the band. Also, he was a real cool down to earth guy who we chatted with outside after the show. He liked my Taake TNBM patch and said touring with them (Wolvhammer opened up on that tour Metalsucks put together recently) was super fun. Apparently Taake LOVES cocaine, like, A LOT.

    • sweetooth0

Also pumped cuz I got the new EP on vinyl in white (limited to 100 copies, pre-release version) and the whole band signed it for me!

  • Waynecro

Destroying the Devoid and Marsh Dweller sound pretty good.

  • Vault Dweller

Soilwork’s ‘Death Resonance’ comes out on 8-19! Might want to add that in.

  • Brutalist_Receptacle
