Bow before the porcelain throne on This Toilet Tuesday. Like a $1 gas station egg sandwich, the releases this week have left me feeling pretty uninspired, so no grandiose tale of painful bowel movements. However, like the messy aftermath of said sandwich, some bits came through undigested. W. and I have plucked them from the tepid muck (barehanded, by the way) and present them for you here. Don’t forget to hit the list below, too; you might catch something I missed.

Creeping-Revenant-e1438644822315

Creeping – Revenant (Daemon Worship) [Death/Doom]
Stream

Creeping put a welcome spin on doom tropes, setting a high bar for heaviness in the process. Not content to simply hold single notes for absurd periods in order to generate gravity, the band actually speeds up their doom metal attack to bring you some utterly stampeding riffs. Songs on Revenant vary from slow to mid-paced, but the changes in rhythm really add a sense of urgency and foreboding to the album. When the band actually does slow down the assault, the effect is like suddenly dropping into a bottomless pit and bouncing off the walls for all eternity. Cavernous vocals and malevolent whispers only add to the alarming atmosphere and make the fall that much more uncomfortable. FFO: House of Capricorn, Ulcerate, Asphyxiate 8/10/15 (W.)

dalkhu

Dalkhu – Descend… Into Nothingness (Satanath Records) [Blackened Death]
Listen to “E.N.N.F.” “The Fireborn”

Dissonance, meet melody. Brutality, meet emotion. W., meet your new obsession. Slovenia’s Dalkhu have released a beautiful collage of some of the best elements of metal, and you simply have to hear it. The song construction is erudite without ever overpowering. The vocals are guttural while still providing a certain degree of feeling to the overall affair. The riffs themselves are immense and combative like warring Titans, yet they are given a certain warmth and levity by the lithe, melodic solos. It may seem strange to release the final track as the advanced single, but if “E.N.N.F.” is anything to judge the remainder of Descend… into Nothingness by, Dalkhu are poised to take you on a journey equal parts soulful and scarring. FFO: Krallice, Abusiveness, Desolate Shrines 8/15/15 (W.)

stryvigor

Stryvigor – До прірви холоду (Svarga/Fimbulvinter) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Eye of the Storm”

Sometimes, I like my black metal to sound just as pissed as my death or thrash. Stryvigor deliver the anger in spades, due in large part to the vocalist’s Nergalesque delivery. The artwork for the “Eye of the Storm-” a dragon emblem behind a snowstorm- single fits perfectly; they hit with the force of a blizzard. On fire. 8/13/15 (Spear)

  • Dubzlinger, Malandro

Which is mightier? A burning blizzard or a blood-stained hurricane?

    • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

That’s a tough choice, I will go with blood-stained hurricane.
      It looks cool.

        Fucking Shithawks!

  • DCLXVI

Working from home today so I get to listen to all this on big boy speakers!

    • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

      “working” from home, lol!

      • DCLXVI

        more like wanking

        • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

          no problem! i’m just jealous!

  • Sludgy riffs directly from my mexican neighboors.

    • Dagon

Might give this a try too. Is it good?

  • CyberneticOrganism

    Yeah this shit is cool.

  • Tyree

That new LvxCælis song is not bad. More evil shit from Chile.

    • Tyree

Their last album was pretty tight. The drum production on this new album pisses me off a bit though. Check out their last album for sure.

      • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

I like the drum sounds on it, it’s not very fitting for blast beats though.

        • Tyree

The drums are sampled, so every hit sounds the same. I hate that monotone sounding shit.

          • My boss said there’s actually something you can use that adds imperfections to sampled drums to make them less uniform. But at that point, why aren’t you just using real drums? Shit’s ridiculous.

          • It’s really not difficult to change the velocity of your hits. If you’re using EZDrummer you can set it to automatically do so.

          • Tyree

Just mic a drum kit when recording. That’s all you need.

          • That’s the ideal situation but I can’t physically play drums and I don’t wanna go through all that hassle if I just want to record song ideas.

          • Tyree

Oh, well I mean that’s fine and all. But, if you are going to release something just do it the right way. I understand that for writing and what not.

          • CyberneticOrganism

It’s the eternal struggle. Easy-to-program drums that sound pretty good when used properly, or months of work to find, rehearse and record with a drummer to get a genuine sound?

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Well, start cunting practicing!!

          • I live in a 1-bedroom apartment. I bet the neighbors would love hearing me practice sloppy blastbeats for hours.

          • Tyree
          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Well, buy a house! Sorry Joseph, but I really don’t see the cunting problem here.

          • COME TO VENEZUELA m/

          • Tyree

            Cum to my window.

          • I can understand that, I don’t understand it for full bands doing actual releases.

          • Tyree

I agree. I can tolerate kick drum triggers. But, to do snare and toms is pretty ridiculous. Even if the drum hit is sampled it still sounds like a trigger because it’s the same hit each time.

  • Myocardial Infarction is not slamming me : (
Why are the vocals up so high in the mix?

  • Hubert

Listening to Creeping right now. sounds really fucking heavy.

    • Dubzlinger, Malandro

      Heavy

  • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

    Stryvigor is great, very violent.

  • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

The bro is strong on 9MM.

    • CyberneticOrganism

“Fuck all this millennial shit, with their vegans and their social medias! Let’s take rock back to where it belongs: the hard-drinking dads!”

      • CyberneticOrganism

Ah I think they’re German, but still

      • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

I think I saw a bud lite on that video.

      • Howard Dean

To be honest, millennials* ARE pretty fucking whiny and annoying.

*You can also substitute “all humans” here for “millennials.”

        #MisanthropyFacts

        • Dagon

The real problem is a big urge to feel included everywhere. Not everything or everyone should be included everywhere. That should just be a natural occurrence, but people nowadays want to force themselves unto others.

          • Howard Dean

Bingo, Fish God. I’m glad I’m not the only person who feels this way.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

I’ve gotten into this with younger dudes who don’t seem cut out for college. Perhaps a better career path would be developing skills in a trade. No point going into debt for a pointless degree.

          • Dagon

You’re absolutely right. It seems that in an attempt to make everyone feel better we completely lost touch of reality.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

Like you said, I think we should always strive for respect and kindness and recognize that some people have been given the short end of the stick and need help. Effort should definitely be made towards helping those who genuinely need it, but like Guac and I said the other day, unity is better than uniformity.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro
          • Howard Dean

Totally. And they have a decent chance of earning more than their collegiate peers if they have a good work ethic and learn a skill in need. People are always shocked to learn how much plumbers or linesmen earn.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

My brother-in-law does HVAC and makes enough that my sister doesn’t have to work and can watch the kids. She decided to go back to school to be a nurse, though.

          • RJA

I work in the sheet metal trade and yes there is good money to be made. Somewhere along the line people convinced themselves you can’t make a good living in the trades and it’s just not true. Also it could be a little bit of what was mentioned above – that it is a given that you have to go to college nowadays.

          • more beer

I wouldn`t give up working in the trades for a desk job ever. I make good money plus work for myself. It doesn`t get better than that.

          • RJA

I get a little bit of both. The first 3 hrs this morning I was rolling steel panels, now I’m drawing up some radius pcs to cut out and sitting at a desk. Now, I couldn’t handle the desk all day but for a few hours it’s pretty nice (I get some toilet time and right now I’m listening to one of the Isengard records Fenriz did)

          • more beer

At least it`s broken up for you between both. I just always hated feeling locked up all day and punching a clock. I do piece work so there is non of that. If I break what I make down to hourly it works out to between 30 and 40 bucks an hour. Plus I go do my thing and when I`m done I`m done. No waiting around until the end of the day. Don`t get me wrong I bust my ass but to me. The pros outweigh the cons.

          • but can you put a price on Van Wilder-esque shenanigans?

          • Howard Dean

Yes. It costs a helluva lot less to fly to Vegas or some other such place and spend a week or two there than it does to rack up private and/or federal education loans with sometimes crippling interest rates.

          • but… but a dog gets masturbated

          • more beer

You are very right Mr. Dean. People are shocked when they find out what I make as a window washer specializing in new construction.

          • more beer

A lot of them aren`t cut out for either. Working in the trades is hard work. There are a whole lot of people now who feel they should have things handed to them. Rather than work hard for what they want. I see very few younger people on the job sites I work on.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

Also a good point. I’m extremely grateful to my parents for making me get a manual labor job during the summers in high school.

          • more beer

But your parents obviously know what it is to do a hard days work for a good wage. There are a lot of parents now who think their child is the most special kid on earth. So they should be above having to work hard. My housemates daughter is a prime example of this. She got a degree in creative writing. As far as I`m concerned that may as well be a piece of toilet paper. She can`t get a job with it. I offered to get her a job with the people I sub contract for. Doing construction cleaning. Which pays really well by the way. She told me the work was too hard. She works at Petco for minimum wage. I got my friend the same job. She doesn`t have a degree. She make 3 times what my housemates daughter does. The difference is she`s willing to work hard.

          • tigeraid

This. I wasted two years for a Computer Sciences degree, only to graduate the MONTH that Windows NT (which I was trained on) became obsolete, and the IT market crashed. After slogging through painful call centre tech support for 5 years, I tossed it all in the shitter and went back to the automotive field. Never been happier. College and University can be a complete and utter waste of time, and the trades NEED more skilled labour. Thanks to the 80s, everyone grew up thinking the ONLY way to be successful was to be a highfaluting white-collar Wall Street banker or some bullshit, and everyone learned to look down their nose at brick layers, contractors, mechanics and plumbers. But those jobs fucking PAY if you do them well and establish a customer base. You can make a DAMN fine living as an HD truck mechanic or an HVAC guy.

          • more beer

That was a wise choice on your part. More than anything its about being happy in what you are doing. Things are different now than they used to be. A vast majority of the population are being raised to think they are special. That there are no winners and losers only winners. It`s getting drilled into these kids brains and they totally believe it. Or they just get things just handed to them and they think that is how life works. They all believe if they go to school they are going to graduate and start off in their dream job with a 6 figure salary. No one is prepared for the actual reality of that probably isn`t going to happen. You have to make your own opportunities. There are a whole lot of people who can`t do that. Because they have had everything done for them their whole lives. i won`t even get into what would happen if one of said people were to get a callous or dirty hands. There are plenty of ways to make a good living if you are willing to work hard and get a little dirty.

          • Guacamole Jim

I think, though, that there’s a misplaced pressure on young adults to go to college/university. A degree now is what high school graduation used to be, and it feels like if you don’t go immediately into university and get educated, you’re dumb and less worthy of hiring (even if you did well in high school but decided further education wasn’t worth it). I think that pressure is hard on people who, as you mentioned, get into debt for a degree they didn’t really want.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

Yep, I agree with you. There shouldn’t be as much pressure on young people to go to college for worthless degrees.

          • sure i learned a few academic things in college, but really it’s about 1) how to live alone 2) budget for meals and beer 3) become accountable for my actions and 4) become integrated with more “adults” like instructors and staff. college is really just prep for the real world.

          • Dagon

There’s more of us out there. I’m all for being respectful towards other people, but what I see is that people want instant gratification, rights and not a single duty or responsibility. I just can’t support that.

You ever read Ortega y Gasset?

          • Howard Dean

I haven’t, but I’m a little familiar with him and his ideas from other forays into thought. One of the dudes with whom I’ve wanted to explore more. Will check some stuff out.

          • Dagon

I recommend The Revolt Of The Masses. It’s a great book.

          • Howard Dean

            Will check it out. Thanks!

Neglecting to “lolbuttz” a new Soulfly record is a grotesque mishandling of power. You’ve let us all down, Spear.

    • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

No, 9MM takes the prize for the lolbuttz tag.

      • one man’s lolbuttz is another man’s badass

        • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

          True.

        • “Sons of Anarchy” in a nutshell

          • Dagon

Damn. I liked the show, but I can admit that it was very cringe worthy.

          • The only people I know that watch that show wear Affliction shirts and have shitty facial hair.

          • Dagon

I don’t own a single Affliction shirt. About the facial hair though…
            🙁

          • I can’t grow facial hair that isn’t weirdly patchy, so you’ve got me beat there.

          • Dubzlinger, Malandro

Pls send me pics of your patchy facial hair.

          • Dagon

Mine makes me look like Kevin Smith. Clean shaven, I look like Uncle Fester.

            Kill me.

          • tigeraid

False. They wear Sons of Anarchy shirts.

      • Don Henley’s Ego

What is with that drummer? Does he really need a skull mask when the rest of his band doesn’t even wear masks?

        • he needs it just as badly as the lead vocalist needs his mic chain’d

          • Don Henley’s Ego

            It’s just stupid.

        • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

He’s trying to be Ghost Rider.

          • Don Henley’s Ego

He’s not Ghost Rider. He’s human.

          • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

He has flames on his head.

          • Don Henley’s Ego

The drummer has no flames on his head. Ghost Rider does though.

          • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

Did you watch the full video?

          • Don Henley’s Ego

Yes. Unless I missed something I saw no flames.

          • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

            You missed something. At 1:39.

          • Don Henley’s Ego

I must have missed something. Have you ever heard of the band Cruel Hand?

    • Spear

There were at least two things worse than Soulfly this week. Seriously, watch that 9MM video. So painful.

      • HessianHunter

Ohfuckohfuckohfuck I recant my previous statement. 9MM. Oof.

      • Don Henley’s Ego

I thought that I’d enjoy it because of the song title. I did not enjoy it one bit.

  • Dubzlinger, Malandro

I think I listened to that one Dalkhu song 5 times yesterday.

    • Lacertilinger

It’s name your price dude, I swung them a couple of buckaroos after you mentioned them to us earlier.

  • Howard Dean

I’m surprised I I haven’t seen any talk or hype about this on the ToH (maybe someone brought it up in the FB group, I dunno), but the new Ares Kingdom album, The Unburiable Dead, is set to drop next month on Nuclear War Now!, and it is my most anticipated album announced for the rest of the year (even more so than Mgla, to be honest). It promises to be a straight motherfucking ripper of an album (like everything Ares Kingdom has ever put out); death metal heavy on the thrash and trad. riffing. FFO: Nocturnal Fear, Sacriphyx, GBK/Arghoslent (musically), House of Atreus.

Give this promo a throw and get shitty pants’d.

OT: Creeping is worth a listen, fo’ sho’.

    • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

      You’re

      • Howard Dean

        …welcome for the recommendation.

      • Tyree

        Huckleberry,

    • Dubzlinger, Malandro

It seems like such a trivial thing, but varying the pace really brings out the heaviness in that Creeping attack.

      • Howard Dean

Indeed. It makes all the difference and sets it apart.

I’ve been following the release of the album. Might pony up for the CD through Daemon Worship, though I’m sometimes reluctant to order from DW due to shipping delays.

        • Tyree

Yeah they can be the worst with delays. I have not ordered from em since my last order which took over 2 months to ship.

          • Howard Dean

I remember that–the Devouring Star debacle. That was during the time I preordered and waited for the Svartidaudi EP for over half a year.

I ordered the Swarth compilation after that and actually got it fairly quickly (within a month).

          • Tyree

Well that’s a little bit better I guess. Still though! Hells Headbangers has spoiled me with their incredibly speedy shipments. 3 days most times it takes for me to revive my shit from them. Even Vault of Dried Bones is pretty fast; 1 week from Canada.

          • Lacertilinger

Was listening to the latest Svartidaudi the other day after someone rec’d it. Good for a rainy day that one.

          • Howard Dean

The Synthesis of Whore and Beast EP? Wicked stuff, my friend.

I gotta admit, though. I think Misthyrming is the best black metal band out ta Iceland right now. I like Svartidaudi, but find Misthyrming superior!

          • Lacertilinger

My mistake, it was their full length Flesh Cathedral. Was good stuff though, the guitarist from Barshasketh shared it on FB.
I do agree about Misϸyrming though, that album is on regular rotation in the Lizard’s winter cave.

  • Stanley

Hatecrowned snot bad. Reminds me of Naglfar. Here’s another one off the new album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=188&v=qnwKhV7WdbU

    • i really enjoy this band, thx for the rec! (and if someone has mentioned this band in the past, i do apologize [probably Dubz])

      • Dubzlinger, Malandro

        Probably not I.

Not sure if you are referring to Hatecrowned or Naglfar. If it’s Hatecrowned, this is the first time that I’ve heard them :). If it’s Naglfar, then…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TPpnyxvtCg

        • whoops, it’s Hatecrowned, really digging their stuff. will try Naglfar next, i think you’ve built up some trust by now

  • Dagon

I got that Dalkhu on queue. Not a lot that interests me this week with the exception of Dreadnought.

Hello guys, hello Dark Lord, ah, that Creeping and LvxCaelis, some good things came out from that golden toilet today!

  • tertius_decimus

Glad Pyogenesis still does exist and makes something new. Haven’t listened to their music for ages.

Clip is funny though… in a bad way.

Lychgate just released their latest for free on BandCamp.

    • tertius_decimus

Lychgate’s stuff is the most aniticpated in this year.

      • Matt Pike’s Sweaty Left Nipple

I’m seriously digging this album. The pipe organs just make it all so majestically menacing and mad (insane).

        • tertius_decimus

          Cosigned.

        • tertius_decimus

I’m listening to it right now. It’s a revelation! Definitely a new word in metal.

    • Lynchgate is a name a can get behind.

I tried that Svartelder the other day and could not get into it.

This Kaeck I’m really digging though. Thanks!

      • 365chaosriddendays

You’re welcome, Kaeck’s song is good, if you want their upcoming album “Stormkult” it will be released this august 28th through Folter Records.

        • Tyree

Nice, I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Haha, I was going to use this one. Changed my mind last minute though.

Ha ha, the one you picked is disturbing!

Why is it yellow though…? I always wondered that after seeing this scene in Hostel. Vitreous fluid isn’t yellow. Even heated with a blowtorch. Pus can get semi-yellowish, but nothing like what is shown here. It looks like she has mustard leaking from her face.

            Ocular mustard leakage…

            Ms. Mustard’s messy macular maceration…

          • @dagonthefishgod:disqus ‘s response coming in 3..2..1..

Folter is a good label and they’re the dudes behind UTBS festival. So there’s that.

I actually thought that Soulfly song was good, I didn’t know they would released an album this year.

      • I listened to it yesterday. Felt underwhelmed.

  • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

    Another recommendation:
    Advent Sorrow.
    Really good. Very sadness.

    • Mxxk Bxnxntxn™

      Also, that Diabolus Arcanium.
Is very power fused. Really liking it.

  • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

    light week!
O well, guess Ill have to check itunes….ahhhhhhhhh its sooo bad!

    • don’t worry, you can always fall back on some classic Hot Dad

      • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

        Grand Funk…..ahhh yea.

  • JW(E)G

Yep. Nothing here quite grabs my interest as much as what I know is coming next week and the week after that.
Especially the latter. Even if nothing is as exciting as Nile or Ahab, that’ll still be a winner.

Phrase of the week: “tepid muck.”

  • Lacertilinger

    Bone Hunter was fun.
Kinda needed more than just that one Hatecrowned track they offered to get a proper feel for whether or not that one was gonna be worth it.
Omnizide has some riffing I desire but the vocals made me give up.
Sectorial on the otherclaw are pretty effective, although they lose me in the middle section.
For some reason I thought that Thurm came out a while back, unless I had only heard a preview track or something?
    LVXCÆLIS got their shit sorted.
