This Toilet Tuesday (7/7/15)

The night started out poorly; you and your friends, broke and too lazy to cook, decided to go to the cheapest Chinese buffet in town for supper. You all knew it was a bad idea, but you still weren’t prepared for the sheer repugnance of the cuisine. Enraged by this culinary offense, you decided to exact your vengeance by eating as much of it as possible. The plan worked; after two hours of laying siege to the buffet line, the managers finally came and angrily kicked you out. On your toilet you now sit, king atop your throne, basking in your triumph and awaiting the birth of the new food prince.

As you feel the Goliathan turd start to crown, you relax your bowels to let it work its own way out. Something feels off, however. It’s coming out too easy, almost like it’s pulling itself out. Your concern deepens when you hear tiny grunting sounds coming from inside the bowl. You stand up and bend over to get a better look; indeed, two small, clawed hands have emerged from your anus and are pushing against your buttocks. Before long, a small creature forces its way out and falls to your bathroom floor with a wet thud. This feces golem, this child born of hatred and dubious ethnic food, appears as a wrinkled toddler with the face of an old man. Before you can react, it runs out your door with a nasal cackle. You can only stare at its slimy footprints as you wonder what horror you have set loose upon this world.

Unleash your inner demons on This Toilet Tuesday.

claret ash

Claret Ash – The Cleansing (Independent) [Blackened Death] (7/8/2015)
Listen to “Desolation of a Pierced Soul,” “The Sombre Fields”

2015 has been a good year for black and death metal, and the interbreeding currently happening between the two camps is a marvelous thing to behold. One bastard offspring (with familial traits drawn more clearly from the black metal side) of that hideous mingling is Australia’s insidious Claret Ash. The Cleansing seems poised to liberate you from your mortal coil in a distinctly Aussie fashion: with stinging, biting, clawing, and burning. Surrender to the allure of the violent wilderness. FFO: Desolate Shrine, Immorium, Ashbringer (W.)

svarta

Svärta – Sepultus (Aeternitas Tenebrarum) [Feelsy Black Metal] (7/6/2015)
Stream

You can’t bring yourself to face the facts, but it’s true. You’re single. Again. “It’s not you, it’s me,” she said. But you know it’s all your fault. It always has been. So you go out for a walk to get some air, to think about things. After some time of wandering through the dusky haze of twilight, you find yourself in a wooded glen. “How did I get here?” you wonder, but before you can really find your bearings, your thoughts are broken by the shriek of a tremendous screech-owl. The owl grasps you in mighty talons and carries you high above the wooded canopy. For an instant, you believe that your winged transport will carry you to the moon, but just as the luminescence of that heavenly sphere becomes nigh unbearable, the owl lets go. You plummet towards the earth below, and all of your feelings, failures, and fears come rushing in. You let go and embrace the sweet oblivion rapidly approaching. You are finally free. FFO: Antlers, Downfall of Nur, Stuff Celtic Frosty Likes (W.)

undergang

Undergang – Døden læger alle sår (Dark Descent) [Death Metal] (7/10/2015)
Stream

Filth is a word that gets tossed around a lot when discussing death metal of the old school variety, but nobody embodies it quite like Undergang. Their latest, which I’m not even going to attempt to type, sounds like a homeless man who has bathed in shit and wears roadkill to keep himself warm during frigid winter nights in the city while playing instruments made of the bones and tendons of his dead friends. I obviously mean all of that in the best possible way. If you like Autopsy, do yourself a favor and try this one out. (Leif Bearikson)

surachai

Surachai – Heavy Mask (Independent) [Electronic/Noise] (7/7/2015)
Listen

I was not familiar with this Chicago-based electronic artist before listening, but it seems that Surachai has been steadily cranking out dark, thoughtful music for a few years now. There is lot of variety to digest through the 18 short tracks, but on the whole, the album is unmistakably heavy. Surachai utilizes a great variety in sounds to establish the electronic grooves, and my favorite aspect of the album is the use of an acoustic drum kit in tandem with those grooves. Check out “Weeds Through A Shattered Skull III” for an excellent example. (Stockhausen)

BlackQueen

BlackQueen – The Directress (Independent) [Black/Death/Doom] (7/5/2015)
Listen to “The Olde Religion”

Blending traits of metal subgenres can go one of several ways. BlackQueen put a name to their blackened deathened doomened hybrid: “witch metal.” And you know what? I’ll take it. The elements of each style are abundantly clear throughout, and the result is catchy, heavy, and darkly atmospheric. There’s even a little technical flair amidst the satisfying riffage. I can see myself getting lost in the forest with this full length. (Stockhausen)

Aspectra – Aphelion – Perihelion (Independent) [Blackened Death]

Did we forget a new release? Is there a way we could improve this list? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Guacamole Jim

This Surachai is groovin! Mighty dig. Good recommendation, Stocky.

  • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

Undergang = Filth and fucking death!

    http://i.giphy.com/Xp1iy7brJ83qU.gif

  • Featured bands on TTT could always be made-up and I wouldn’t know.

    • Herr Schmitty

I’ve heard of Svarta, so I’m 1-4 today.

    • The W.

I guess we sort of figure people are already aware of the big releases.

      • Herr Schmitty

I won’t speak for anybody else, but I find I’m usually surprised by some releases and was unaware they were coming this soon!

Today’s example: I had no idea BTBAM’s new album dropped today. I’m not a die-hard fan of theirs, but I do like them!

        • The W.

I’m surprised Stockhausen didn’t blurb about it. He’s an uber fangirl.

  • Stanley

There’s not a lot of good thrash coming out this year (at least I haven’t found much) so Violentor sounds pretty good. There’s a lot of Motorhead in the mix and even the vocals in Italian Bastards sound a bit like Lemmy.

    • I NEED a new Warbringer album!!

      • Stanley

I’ve never listened to Warbringer. I’ll give them a spin.

      • Stanley

Just listened to the first three songs on Empires Collapse and I’m not feeling it Jimmy.

    • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

For those that are still not aware.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpXCz1ggq_Q

      • Stanley

I have that and it’s Black Thrash. Boy, is it good! Looking something more traditional.

      • Dayum. This is some real good stuff.

      • Lacertilian

        More Aussies doing it right.

    • Dagon

Somewhere between Lemmy and Martin Van Drunen.

    • Rob M

Oh, I might be able to help you with that

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8SowvXUMGo

      • Phoenix of the House Tendies

Fuck I didn’t know Profanator came out with a new album. They and Envenomed are two of the only good Mexican standard thrash bands IMO.

    • Phoenix of the House Tendies

I sort of have to agree. There have been a number of good thrash albums this year but not a lot of great ones.

This might tide you over though. I couldn’t find the version from the full length which came out a couple of months ago so bear with me.

  • Stocky, I’m digging this Black Queen sound; bouncy bass sounds. Great roundup.

  • My new policy is to only read This Toilet Tuesday while on the toilet.

    • God

That’s what I’m doing right now! Coming back from Nicaragua I haven’t had a solid poop in 4 days.

      • Welcome back!

        • God

          Good to be back!

      • Guacamole Jim

So it’s just been liquid poop?

        • Spear

          Gas poop.

          • Guacamole Jim

            Plasma poop.

          • Thank you.

          • Spear

            Bose-Einstein condensate poop

          • Guacamole Jim

            Strange matter poop.

        • God

          Like pissing out the ass

        • Jasper Ringoldsby

          Poop soup

      • How was the food??

        • God

Rice and beans…and some undercooked chicken

  • God

That Cradle of Filth is surprisingly pretty good. I like it a lot better than their last 3 or 4 releases. Despite the cheesy asthetics, Dani is a damn good song writer.

Also, lol at the Party Slam tag

    • I’m going to listen today to it. Liked the two songs they shared.

    • CyberneticOrganism

Agreed, I was just thinking the same. His vocals have more grit to them nowadays.

    • RustyShackleford

I haven’t heard them in so long but now I’m definitely gonna give it a shot.

  • Scrimm

    Like that Dysentery.

  • CRAP. I planned on finishing my Party Cannon review before it was released.

  • Stanley

Has anyone checked out Hail, yet? The lolbuttz is strong with this one.

    • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

I did. They are trying too hard to be Beherit and Archgoat.

      • Rob M

There are worse bands they could be imitating

        • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

Very true. They just don’t pull it off very well I guess is what I’m trying to say. I’m not knocking Beherit and Archgoat by any means.

          • Rob M

Nah, I got ya brother…I’d just take bad Archgoat worship, over something like good Whitechapel worship any day

          • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

For damn sure! Rob, did you go to MDF this year?

          • Rob M

Yes sir..and proceeded to have Demilich, Razor, and Bulldozer crush my face (to name just a few)

..and damn am I way pumped about the announced bands for next year

          • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

Yes, all three bands you listed crushed hard. I was most impressed with Tsjuder. Demoncy, Masacre, and Portal were sick too.

          • Rob M

Missed both Masacre and Prosanctus Inferi unfortunately because we were tailgating at the parking garage…getting my group away from the beer cooler is like herding cats

Portal was an excellent closer this year, really great set

Tsjuder was the biggest surprise to me, they completely killed it. I usually think of them as a solid black metal band but I didnt think they could bring it like that

I’ll be honest Demoncy disappointed me. i had high hopes for that set but they seemed like they were sleepwalking up there.

I thought Solstice was on fire and I was pumped as hell to see Morpheus Descends..

          • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

I missed Solstice, Impetuous Ritual, and Knelt Rote which bums me out. Did you happen to catch them by chance? Any good?

          • Rob M

Solstice was awesome…I stayed for Amorphis (that was a killer set!) and ended up missing both Impetuous Ritual and Knelt Rote as well.

A buddy of mine caught their sets though and really enjoyed them, apparently Knelt Rote especially put on a crazy good show. The way he was talking I was actually bummed I missed it

          • Lisbeth (Tyree) Salander

Yeah, I heard Knelt Rote kicked ass as well. Amorphis was really good, I was surprised. I wasn’t super excited going into that set.

          • Rob M

Im a sucker for Amorphis, even their current poppy/melodic stuff, so I was actually looking forward to seeing Tales From the Thousand Lakes done live. While I wished I could have caught some of those Rams Head bands that night, that set was totally worth it

  • Dagon

I might be wrong, but sometimes I think the way writers of the Toilet, hm, write blends together. The line “surrender to the allure of the violent wilderness” sounds like something Link would say. That’s cool.

The album is also pretty good.

    • Jajajaja, except I don’t know what Allure means.

      • It’s a song by Fallujah!

        • DOYOURLYBEARD, THO?

How were you not down voted jimmy?

          • Herr Schmitty

Because Fallujah = >>>>>>>>>>>>>> most things.

          • How were you not down voted Schmitty?

          • Herr Schmitty

Good question. Is it that I’m charismatic? Maybe I ought to change my name to ‘The Great Conciliator.”

        • I’m In Love With Tha DooDoo

          It’s what Emmure doesn’t have.

      • Dagon

        It’s a Jay-Z song.

  • Dagon
    • GAH!!

    • CyberneticOrganism

      POOBEAST

      • KJM

“Poobeast” is not the proper nomenclature. “Golgothan”, please.

        • Disgustache

We’re not talking about the fucking guys that built the railroads, man.

          • KJM

THE POOBEAST IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE, DUDE!!

  • DCLXVI

    Thanks again!

  • Dagon

All slam and no sludge makes Dagon a dull boy.

  • Celtic Frosty

You can stream the new BTBAM album in full at Spin, FYI. http://www.spin.com/2015/07/stream-between-the-buried-and-me-coma-ecliptic/

    • I need to give it more listens. But in my first hearing it was good.

    • The W.

I went in hoping I would hate it so that I could make Stockhausen feel bad, but I didn’t hate it. I enjoyed it, even. Still not as good as Colors, though.

  • KJM

    BlackQueen iz gud.

  • Trees ‘n Shit is Kvlt O)))

The Woods of Ypres influence is super strong on that Altars of Grief track. I’d love to hear more from them.

  • Jasper Ringoldsby

If any of you nerds pay attention to my occasional TovH Facebook group contributions, you’ll know how I feel about that Khemmis album.
That is to say, “>>>>>>>>”. Woo!

  • I’m In Love With Tha DooDoo

This, THIS, deserves a Nobel Prize For Literature and many many big budget movies revolved around it (all starring The Rock): “This feces golem, this child born of hatred and dubious ethnic food, appears as a wrinkled toddler with the face of an old man.”

I’m guessing this poop had progeria?

    http://artery.wbur.org/files/2013/10/1020_sam-legos-wide.jpg

  • InfinityOfThoughts

Claret Ash is my jam and jelly. Mmmmm

    • The W.

There have been weeks when nothing interested me, but both Claret Ash and Svarta brought the goods.

  • Lacertilian

Not sure if Spear mentioned “mortal coil” when talking about Aussies Claret Ash due to this killer Australian EP from earlier in the year..
    https://sewercide.bandcamp.com/album/severing-the-mortal-cord-ep

but I’ll take any chance I can get to mention them again.

    • The W.

I wrote the blurb. And no, I didn’t have that in mind 😉
