This Toilet Tuesday (6/27/17)

This Toilet Tuesday has come once more for the fruits of your wallet, and it may just walk away with it this week. It’s once again pretty dense, with a handful of solid big-name releases and a bunch of hidden gems from the smaller bands as well. There’s a lot of new stuff; be a bro and help sort the good stuff from the chaff.

Dawn Patrol – Chemical Lobotomy (MK ULTRA) (Independent) [Crossover Thrash]
Listen to “Chemical Lobotomy(MK ULTRA)”

I probably never would have checked out Dawn Patrol had they not shown up on this list, but I’m glad I did. Their particular style of crossover goes in a crusty, grindy direction that feels pretty distinct from a lot of other punk-thrashers. “Chemical Lobotomy” is home to some surprisingly complex riffs and solos as well, and it has me itching to hear more. 6/29/17 (Spear)

Vintersorg – Till Fjälls, del II (Napalm Records) [Folk/Prog/Black Metal]
Listen to “Fjällets mäktiga mur,” “Jökelväktaren”

I’ve been aware of Vintersorg for some time now, but never really took the time to listen to them. I see now that this was a mistake; based on these two singles, Till Fjälls II is going to jam hard. I can’t say how it stacks up against their earlier work, but I’m really digging the mixture of styles here. It’s a little bit Enslaved, a little bit Windir, and completely awesome. 6/30/17 (Spear)

Sorry to leave you hanging, Spear! Work’s been nuts, and I was in bed surprisingly early last night. Good chance I’ll miss next week too, as it’ll be another day I’m driving like 9 hrs.

Quit my job this morning said forever
I would hold my head up high
Cause I need metal in my life
Just like an eagle needs to fly

      • Dumpster Lung

But my job is how I have funds for metal shows and merch! And the flexibility to almost never miss one these days 😎

I know your pain. Ever since I got home, I’ve been flooded by work. There were a couple of releases this week that I’m excited for but I didn’t have time to write about.

  • Joaquin Stick
