Welcome to another Toilet Tuesday! It’s the first week of the summer months, which means I’ll be cranking the AC and shutting all the curtains to preserve the cave-like atmosphere that permeates my house. Fortunately for you, my aversion to sunlight means I’ll have that much more time digging up the tastiest jams each week. Our ever-faithful and handsome team of writers have picked their favorite (and one really bizarre) new releases of the week, so sit back and enjoy the new tunes!

encyrcle

Encyrcle – Encyrcle (Unspeakable Axe Records) [Speed Metal]
Stream

Speed freaks unite. Encyrcle is here to give you your fix of high octane riffs, breakneck solos, and choruses that will stick in your skull like a carnivorous earwig. I recently told the Masterlord that “Bloodbasker” has become my go-to song for murdering random video game plebeians and he couldn’t help but agree. Equip your denim vest and grab a brewski while you windmill to these tasty jams. (Leif Bearikson)

maruta

Maruta – Remain Dystopian (Relapse Records) [Grindcore]
Stream

It seems as though each month we’re given a grind gem of some sort, be it from the underground or the grandfathers of the genre. This month the torch has been passed to Maruta, and I’ll be damned if they don’t just run it to the Olympic cauldron themselves. This isn’t just your typical grind, though, as Maruta is kind enough to find the time to incorporate a little death and, dare I say, skronk? Hell, it has Tomas Lindberg and J.R.Hayes’ seals of approval so what more do you need? (Leif Bearikson)

monolithian

Monolithian – The Finest Day I Ever Lived Was When Tomorrow Never Came (Atomsmasher Records) [Doom]
Stream

Monolithian’s The Finest Day I Ever Lived, Was When Tomorrow Never Came sounds like bar music written for illuminati cultists. Due to essentially existing as a solely rhythm unit (no guitars here, folks), the band’s rumbling Motorhead meets Thou approach would be frightening if it wasn’t so dang rocking. I must give a special tip-o-the-beard to vocalist Simon; his leathery throat matches the music perfectly. Get drunk and damned. FFO: Snakefeast, Orange Goblin, Radiation Blackbody (W.)

Ebonillumini-Arktos-01

Ebonillumini – Arktos (Wickerman Recordings) [Experimental Black Metal]
Listen to “Lusca (Bahamas)”

Well, this is certainly something. Within the first two minutes of “Lusca”, Eboniilumini transition from a Red Stripe commercial jingle to a Godzilla roar to cooing lady-led black metal. I don’t think I like this, but it’s just so out there that I figured someone needed to cover it. Look, I don’t really know how to describe this, so just give it a try. You probably won’t like it either, but at least you’ll be able to say you’ve jammed the weirdest release of the day. FFO: The Meads of Asphodel, Within Temptation, Alestorm (W.)

Paradise-Lost-The-Plague-Within

Paradise Lost – The Plague Within (Century Media) [Doom]
Listen to “Beneath Broken Earth”

The guys from Paradise Lost return once again to explore darkness with their own mix of doom and melodic goodness. The Plague Within is a great album in which the instruments curls between them to develop a more song-oriented experience with a tight rhythm segment. Paradise Lost managed to make an album in which they throw into an old warehouse aspects and soundscapes from all their previous incarnations: The Plague Within is a mix between doom, gothic, heavy and even death metal all in one English-flavored package. truth before treason

Truth Before Treason – The Rise and Fall of a Broken Empire (Independent) [Metalcore]
Listen to “Live This Down”

Full disclosure: I’m a sucker for anything that sounds like Trivium, so my fellow Eau Claire dwellers Truth Before Treason had me snared from the start. The Rise and Fall of a Broken Empire sounds like a more palatable Ascendancy-era Trivium, brimming with wicked guitarmonies and bouncy chugging riffs. My only complaint is that the vocalist/lead guitarist sounds a little strained at the high end of his range, but he more than makes up for it with his fantastic guitar work. If your tastes lie anywhere in the -core persuasion, don’t miss this. (Spear)

Akitsa – Grands Tyrans (Hospital Productions) [Black Metal]

truth before treason sounds pretty good—good guys

    • Sounded a bit strained, just like he mentioned. Not too terrible.

      GL

      • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

        Hillary Clinton did 911

        • Guacamole Jim

          That escalated quickly.

        • I really do not like hearing about her every God damn day. 24/7/365.25 days a year news media cycle

          • Hey, it’s better to have the truth before the treason!

          • KJM

It seems that once an election news cycle ends, another one immediately begins. We shouldn’t even be hearing about the 2016 election until next Spring.

          • *blood pressure rising*

          • KJM

Indeed. It’s good thing I already take meds for that, as I am an old creaking fossil.

        • Herr Schmitty

Damn, that’s awesome. If she really did, she’s really got my vote locked down because that’s the type of hero America NEEDS.

  • Tyree

Not much to get excited about this week.

    LVTHN it is then.

    • KJM

      Three Eyes Left is ok.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Pyrrhon and Maruta are both real good. I want to check out that new Skinless but I have other jams to jam way before it.

        • Tyree

Let it be known that the Maruta stream link goes to Metalsucks. Fucking death!

          • I clicked the link and was like “HOW THE HELL DID I GET HERE”

            *clicks furiously to close window*

            GL

Ever think about becoming David Lynch?

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

You love Louie as well? Did you see his recent SNL monologue?

          • Tyree

His most recent? If so, then yes.

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

The most recent one was brutal. I enjoyed it though, especially the Mounds bar part.

          • KJM

18 new episodes. I’m still so fucking psyched that my patience has been rewarded.

          • That was frustrating to watch! But good!

            GL

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

            Ugh, total fucking death, lol

          • trve… bandcamp it is!

          • The W.

            Also on Spotify.

    • That Prion album is pretty groovy if you’re in the mood for some fairly straightforward death metal.

      • Tyree

Prion is cool. I totally missed that release on here. They were once on Unique Leader right?

      • I’m listening. To be a more OSDM oriented they have this weird “geometrical” riffing. It’s good.

      • Lacertilian

I like that mood, I fell away from it for a while but now I’m back.

    • Howard Dean

I bought The Grand Uncreation compilation on CD. Fucking tight. Good old-fashion flavored black metal. Their cover of the Katharsis song “666” was sweet–super blasty and aggressive.

      • Tyree

Dude, did you see this line-up. Fuck!!!

        http://i.imgur.com/RPzrmAPh.jpg

        • Howard Dean

Damn! Makes me wanna drive to NYC. Sinmara!!

          • Tyree
          • That’s a paddlin’

Not a very good live act here.

          • Tyree
          • That’s a paddlin’

Gotta admit it’s been a few years and the sound wasn’t very good either, but they’re about as average as it gets. A friend saw them last year and thought they we’re pretty good tho, so… opinions. Or maybe they’ve gotten better.

          • Tyree

Huh, well. I still dig their recordings though.

          • That’s a paddlin’

            I like the records too.

        • Tyree
          • Lacertilian

@nordlingritesovkarhu:disqus got me onto that album a month or so ago.
            Is good shit.

    • Howard Dean

I bought The Grand Uncreation compilation on CD. Fucking tight. Good old-fashion flavored black metal. Their cover of the Katharsis song “666” was sweet–super blasty and aggressive.

  • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Ooo new Akitsa, thanks Toilet Tuesday for the reminder!

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

      Wow, them vocals…

    • Tyree

      Wow, not bad actually.

    • I can’t believe I paused the Pyrrhon stream for that 🙁

      -1 for Edward today 😛

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Growth Without End is only fifteen minutes long JAG! Lol

        • I’m seriously considering getting the vinyl off Bandcamp instead of just the digital download alone. Cut at 45 rpm usually = awesomesauce.

    • fml, can’t leave funny comments on the SoundCloud stream.

    • Howard Dean

Looking to snag the CD from someone. Hoping to avoid import costs. Not listed on the Hospital Records webstore yet. I’m sure a U.S. distro will pick it up, but I’m impatient.

  • Kevin Nash & Friends

I’m very excited for the new Paradise Lost. I’ll give a listen now.

    • Me too.

      • That’s a paddlin’

Didn’t feel the preview song at all, listened to the two others and I liked them a lot more. Solely mixed feelings.

        • It’s a very mixed album. I liked it, but I know it’ll be ditched by a lot of people for “inconsistency”. But, even if you won’t liked it, worth the first spin.

      • That’s a paddlin’

Didn’t feel the preview song at all, listened to the two others and I liked them a lot more. Solely mixed feelings.

    • I recommend you to pay attention to Return of the Sun (closer track). I think it’s the best.

  • My picks:

Monolithian: excellent crusty doom with rhythm centered compositions. https://monolithiandoom.bandcamp.com/album/the-finest-day-i-ever-lived-was-when-tomorrow-never-came

Artrosis: delicate merol with female singer in a weird foreign language:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tce9H0usK6w

Encyrcle: energetic merol, better than cocaine.

    • Kevin Nash & Friends

Did you enjoy the new Paradise Lost?

      • Yes! 🙂

It got some lost moments, but in overall is a great experience, like I said, it’s a very melodic record with a good side in the rhythm section. I think they really did a good record.

The sad part is that the orchestra parts didn’t “meld” really well with the songs, it’s just parts that are stitched to intros, wasn’t like Faith Divide Us – Death Unite Us pompous. But, everything’s good in the end because Greg and the other guitar trade some tasty guitarwork. Greg is an incredible guitar player.

        • Kevin Nash & Friends

From the song I heard from here I will buy the album. Hopefully it’s as good as you said.

          • Spear

            In Link we trust.

          • Jajajaja!! Hope you like it, Spearrow. I think you will like the guitarwork.

          • Spear
          • If you liked Draconian Times and Shades of God you will have something of those groovy riffing eras.

It’s good, because it’s like a homage to all their previous records. I had the oportunity to listen the bonus tracks and are more gothic like in the middle depechy mody era.

I don’t think I would recommend it for new starters in the band, I think, because it’s very scattered. It’s more a “for fans” record, to me.

I enjoyed a lot! Going to spin it today too! 🙂

  • Maruta for the win this week. A short but sweet album. Pyrrhon brings the goods as well.

  • Guacamole Jim

Monlithian is rad. It’s a bit difficult to believe that tone is just from a bass – sounds like a dirty stratocaster. Interesting to hear though. It seems that smaller group sizes is just the way of the future live scene, at least on the underground level.

    • Stockhausen

And mega nerdy LOTR/Lovecraft references in the song titles.

      • Jajajaja, yeah, that’s cool for me! 😀 I’m #doomloading!

        • Stockhausen

If the circumstances were right, I would be on a stage wearing a wizard robe and chanting about Middle Earth. No joke.

      • That’s a paddlin’

Oh, so I should totally check it out.

        • CyberneticOrganism

If you do, that’s a paddlin’

          • That’s a paddlin’

            Bear like paddlin’.

      • That’s a paddlin’

Oh, so I should totally check it out.

  • Spear

FUCK. That Encyrcle is scratching an itch I didn’t know I had.

    • Leif Bearikson

RIGHT? It’s all the fun I’ve ever wanted apparently

  • The W.

You guys, please listen to that Ebonilluminatus track. It isn’t good, but you’ll enrich your lives with it.

    • Stockhausen

      Alright! It’s a party!
      Dangit, we’re drowning.
Hmmm. That thing sounds big, and people are either terrified or possibly quite impressed by it.
Ah, they were cheering for its sweet dance moves to them hip shaking’ synths.
      Look at it go!
      Uhh!
      OooooOOOOHHHHHwwwaaaaaAHHHAAAHAAHwoowwwwwOOOWWWWwowwwWWoOOOOOtheshOOOOOOOreliinE!

      • The W.

        Nailed it.

    • That’s a paddlin’

It’s actually wery good. Just what I needed to complete a trinity (Arcturus/Vulture Industries)

      • The W.

I’m surprised it’s gotten any positive responses. I did not enjoy it.

        • That’s a paddlin’

Do you like the two bands I mentioned?

          • The W.

I like Vulture Industries. Arcturus I could take or leave, honestly.

          • That’s a paddlin’

Just got a super-similar vibe from this (obvs). Maybe not as carneval-ish. It’s rather easy to see why people would not-like this though.

    • OldMetalHead

It sounds like the soundtrack to a play or something from a Cirque du Soleil show.

  • That’s a paddlin’

Dat Vallendusk should not be missed if black metal most concerned with atmosphere yet retaining a somewhat intense edge is yer thing

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

      Suitably frosty.

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

Meads of Asphodel? More like the Meads of Asphodelolbuttz.

    • What the fuck am I listening to? It’s like Cyndi Lauper feat. Random Production Decisions.

      • Tyree

Hey man, Girls just want to have fun is all.

      • The W.

I think they shares members with Ebonilililugugal.

        • Dubialugugulughal.

        • Stockhausen

          Ebonililmolenaariligugalil.

          • The W.

Not to be confused with the other ridiculously named band with which Christian is associated. I’m talking about the poo poo pirates up top.

          • Stockhausen

Of course, but Christian is in that band too. He’s in every band. Christian is band.

          • The W.

He’s the only member of every band we’ve ever covered.

          • Stockhausen

Dischordia’s next album is going to be a concept record about Christian and the Illuminliligugaligerabunget that controls every band that he’s the only member of.

          • Christian Molenaar is part of the Rothschild family.

            #MolenaarFacts

            Good band is good.

There’s a noothgrush on my toothbrush.

        • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

They have a side project called The Threnody of Ebonilililugugalginnungagap.

      • Stockhausen

I’m listening now, and I’m terrified. What do I do, Joe?

        pls respond

      • d00d. i’m on my third listen. i love it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Stockhausen

Mmm. That Maruta is remaining all of my dystopians.

  • Hubert

Pyrrhon – Growth Without End (Handshake, Inc) [Goatcore]

    • Pyrrhon – Growth Without End (Goatshake, Inc) [Goatcore]

      • Colin Marston produced this album? I approve.

        • I think he only mastered it. The production was someone else.

          • Yeah, you’re probably right. Good enough for me. Music like this benefits just as much from not being brickwalled as any other type. Seriously.

          • You’re right. That style needs the dynamics to enhance the effect of the dissonance in their compositions.

          • The W.

Maybe even more so. Case in point: Ulcerate’s Vermis.

          • Stockhausen

That album made me so sad. I love Ulcerate, and have not once been able to listen to that thing straight through.

          • with. when i discovered Ulcerate with Destroyers of All, i was IN LOVE. at that time (pre-Toilet mind you) it was the most innovative thing i’d heard since discovering Meshuggah.

          • Scrimm

            Everything is Fire>>>>>>>>

          • Stockhausen

My first taste was Destroyers of All, then went back and caught up on the first two. I really hope their next album has more shape to it.

  • That Theoktony is something else

Nice dude, I may actually check this album out now that I’ve heard a reliable opinion on it. I love old school Armored Saint, but some of their newer stuff just hasn’t held up to me.

      • here’s the good (or bad) thing: i haven’t heard a single Armored Saint aside from the new album. i’d be going in with fresh ears, but being a fan of John Bush in general from his work in Anthrax
