This Toilet Tuesday (6/16/15)

Today is one of those days that seems to keep getting worse. As you tear off your coat and waddle as quickly as you can to your toilet, you think the day must be reaching apex shittiness, but you knew this was coming. In a series of increasingly bad decisions that started two nights ago when you decided not to sleep, you spent most of yesterday morning pounding coffee to stay awake and finished a (mostly full) bottle of rum last night. This morning, trying to dampen your skull-crushing hangover, you pounded six more cups of coffee. You were an absolute wreck at work, and now it’s time to pay the price for your reckless hedonism. You reap what you sow.

The bloating is almost unbearable when your ass finally reaches the seat. It intensifies with a painful gurgle, and you lean forward to try and alleviate the pressure. It seems to work; you can feel the gas shift and almost release. Your bowels swell forth mightily and finally pour forth their pent-up fury. With a thunderous roar, you unleash a blast of rectal ruination upon your unwitting toilet. The force of the explosion blows away the wall and floors, and you begin to fall into a black abyss. Terrified, you look downward, but can see no bottom. Just as you start to panic, thinking you might fall forever, something catches you. Something thick. Something slimy. As your house crumbles away above you, some light finally breaks through. You cast your gaze downwards to a sight that drives you to the edge of madness. For what lies below is a beast of unfathomable size. Pulsing red tentacles reach towards the roof of the cavern and begin to break through the ground. The tentacle holding you begins to lower you to its body, where you see a large gash beginning to form in the translucent pink skin of this amorphous abomination. The dermis splits in a spray of ichor and blood; a giant ring of a mouth forms below, circular rows of teeth gushing from its sides and a single large eye in its center. As it drops you in, goring you with its tremendous teeth and grinding your bones beyond dust, you have only an inkling of the horror you have unleashed. Unbeknownst to you, your ass was the ass of prophecy; an ancient, dark prophecy foreseeing the end of the world at the hands of the old gods.

You cannot escape the lurking darkness. Embrace This Toilet Tuesday.

Shape-of-Despair-Monotony-Fields

Shape of Despair – Monotony Fields (Season of Mist) [Funeral Doom]
Listen to “Monotony Fields”

Shape of Despair is finally back. Monotony Fields is a combination of old and new elements. Calm, simple songs building into crushing tidal waves, with a pace that sometimes seems like running considering SoD is still a funeral doom band. If you’re familiar with the genre you probably won’t find much that you haven’t heard and Natalie Koskinen is still criminally underused, but you’ll probably enjoy Monotony Fields thoroughly. For newcomers it’s a good place to jump in, what with being quite simple and “easy.” Based on the teaser tracks at least. (Karhu)

cailleach

Cailleach – Neverending Winter (Independent) [Black Metal]
Listen

Summer may be upon us, but I know some of your hearts are perpetually frozen chunks of solid, bitter earth. I’ve got just the thing for those of you longing for winter’s sweet, cold caress. Cailleach, although hailing from New Zealand, play frosty black metal rooted in the frozen heart of the North. Mournful shrieks, icy riffs, and lugubrious melodies all characterize a surprisingly fast take on the folkier side of the genre. FFO: Antlers, Early Woods of Ypres, Agalloch (W.)

ken mode

KEN Mode – Success (Season of Mist) [Hardcore/Noise]
Stream

On their newest album Success, KEN Mode remain as difficult to pigeonhole and place as ever before. Weird spoken vocals reminiscent of Jello Biafra rattle and rail against a fat-bottomed groove and screeching distortion. This isn’t hardcore, but it isn’t really metal either. Labeling it noise rock may be the most accurate, but even that feels a bit disingenuous. This may be one of the most disorienting albums released today, but if you’re open to weirder rock, get on it. FFO: Lard, Mr. Bungle, The Jesus Lizard (W.)

false

False – Untitled 2015 (Gilead Media) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Hedgecraft”

If you’re like me, then you have missed the False hype train thus far. The band first made waves in 2011 with a 2 song EP that spanned a monstrous 25 minutes. Kept within was a journey of Homerian proportions, a musical tale that brought you to high highs and the lowest lows you can reach without watching Game of Thrones. Now, with the release of their first full length, it is time to jump aboard this train because it isn’t all hype. False delivers some of the finest, most adventurous black metal you’re likely to hear this year. Listen to False, because everything you’ve heard about them is true. (Mustache Bear)

  • D. Lee

High on Fire came out today right?

    • The W.

Aye, it did. Waiting for my vinyl to appear at my door 🙂

      • D. Lee

Wish I could’ve taken advantage of that Amazon blunder. There’s quite a few releases coming out this month and July that I’ll have to catch up on later. Bills <<<<<<<<

        • The W.

Yah, there are a lot of releases I’d like to purchase but currently lack the funding to acquire. Also, I should probably start saving for new Graphics Cards for Fallout 4.

          • Howard Dean

High on Fire CD is on its way to my mailbox. Just ordered the Ithaqua demo on CD from Iron Bonehead/Necroshine. Really need to stop buying new music. It’s killing me inside (in the best possible way).

          • The W.

Having a tight budget it killing me, but thankfully my salary just increased quite a bit. I should have a wee more disposable income to waste on physical media now.

          • let us all get into a heated discussion and shout obscenities at each other regarding physical vs. digital media, like the old days on FFB…

          • The W.

I use both. I like having CDs and vinyl for sure, but I back everything up in a digital catalogue for when I’m on my computer at home or flying (when I use my Zune most).

          • Dagon
          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

For a second, I was thinking The Nefilim album ‘Zoon’. And yes, that’s Carl McCoy from Fields Of The Nephilim.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycl8D-lBZOY

          • KJM

            Physical FTW.

          • ME GORAK™

            YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Digital for me, simply because I listen to a lot of music on the go on my MP3 player, and sure as fuck not going to drag around a dozen CD’s and a Walkman like the old days.

          • KJM

In the 80s I used to have a Walkman and a bunch of tapes all the time. All I have now is an iPod that I never use.

          • ME GORAK™

GORAK LIVING FOSSIL!!!! SO GORAK WANT CD!!!!!!

          • Tyree

I’m going to have to make another Iron Bonehead haul here. It’s been a while, and there have been a lot of sick releases coming out of that label recently. They never disappoint.

          • Howard Dean

I really like that Ithaqua demo. I have a soft spot for the old Greek scene (Varathron, Rotting Christ, Necromantia) and that demo hits just right.

I think rather than spending $16 on importing a demo CD from them, though, I probably should start buying digital albums on the Iron Bonehead bandcamp. It appears my “old man/physical copies only” block is still in effect, though. I think my wallet will appreciate it when I do switch over one day.

Also: Apparently David Vincent ISN’T out of Morbid Angel–according to him, anyway.

          • Tyree

I read that. This whole thing is fucking dumb. I’ll be curious to see how this all ends up.

            Also Witchrist is back together!

          • Howard Dean

            Good news about Witchrist! Byah!

          • Tyree

Indeed. Their break-up did not last very long at all. Glad they got their shit together, we need more New Zealand war fucking metal!!!

          • The W.

Two vocalists. Two bassists. Two extreme.

          • Howard Dean
          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

When did Unknown Hinson (from Squidbillies) join Morbid Angel?!?!? ^^^^^^^^^^^^

            http://www.prismflex.com/graphics/hinson2.jpg

          • RJA

Was the Ithaqua only on cassette? That will lead me towards buying digital. I would love to order a copy of the Nocternity on vinyl but I will wait for a US distro to hopefully have it – also interested in the Possession release. Pretty much if it says Iron Bonehead on it you are increasing your odds of greatness.

          • Howard Dean

No, the demo is on CD, too. Necroshine Records (the “sort of subsidiary” of Iron Bonehead) released the demo on CD–however, I couldn’t find a North American distro that was carrying it, so I ordered it directly from IB/Necroshine.

Hells Headbangers has the CD and cassette for the new Nocternity album, but not the vinyl. I’m sure they will get copies, though.

Agreed–IB is the tits. That new Possession is pretty good.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

            The whole Dave Vincent thing:

            http://i.imgur.com/jmUGiVf.gif

He’s out and he’s gonna through an epic, Dave Lomardo/Geoff Tate bitch fit over it. I called it! (I accept Paypal, money orders and envelopes stuffed with tendies, for all you betting folks).

          • Dagon

You dig HoF’s earlier work better, IIRC. Interested in hearing your opinion on the new album. I love it so far.

          • Howard Dean

Yeah, I really love the S/T EP, The Art of Self Defense, and Surrounded by Thieves. However, I’ve never been disappointed by HoF, and De Vermis Mysteriis was really good. I’m excited to hear the full album, too.

          • Dagon

I won’t spoil anything, I’ll just say it has a very different feel compared to DVM.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

I’m actually considering using some of my money this week to buy this shirt.

            http://www.tshirtlaundry.com/assets/images/photos/AbeFroman7-6-2010-2w.jpg

          • D. Lee

I feel like one last play through of New Vegas is warranted before 4. And maybe this time I won’t screw up by pitting myself against the faction I was aiming to side with -_-

          • KJM

            Star Wars: Battleground >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    • Mon*Star

      It did.

    • Spear

Great. Thanks to Blabbermouth for giving me the wrong release date.

Edit: Excuse me, Loudwire. They listed it as the 23rd for whatever reason.

      • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Lol, I gotta keep looking at BM throughout the whole day to watch Morbid Angel updates. Apparently Dave’s walking in circles in a revolving door and doesn’t realize he’s either got the boot or about to get it.

  • It’s me or this Graveworm stuff sounds like mid Hypocrisy?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5LVTuK4emU

    • It does to me.

    • Disgustache

Link, how come your continent has all the best thrash and speed metal? Is it all the spicy food or what?

      • Jajajaja, Venezuelan merol can be very bad, there’s only a few bunch of good bands. Tell @dagonthefishgod:disqus. Brasil got the best bands in the subcontinent along Chile 😉 😉 😉

        • Dagon

We do have Angra and Shaman so I guess all is balanced out.

          • B-but.. I like Angra 🙁

            You can take Shaman lol.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Oh, he’s just hiding his love of power metal so he can look all grim and the kvlt. Soon he will be………..

            http://i.imgur.com/6GvUW4e.gif?1

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

So, yes, you have the very best! Angra is Brazil’s greatest accomplishment, along with hot waxing, tanlines and the greatest butts on earth.

          • Dagon

I seriously do not understand how a human being can enjoy Angra.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

They’ve been my favorite band for 10 years now, and I love all their projects including your beloved countrymen Shaman. I don’t understand how someone can actually like Darkthrone and listen to them with a straight face. They’re metal’s answer to IceJJfish.

          • Dagon

            Hahahah I love Darkthrone.

    • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Yep! Haven’t heard them in over a decade, when I got a promo CD of their’s to review. I listened to it once, kinda liked it, and forgot about it.

      • Well, this Graveworm isn’t that good either 😛

        • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

I’ll grab the plunger, you hit the switch!

    • tertius_decimus

It’s better than (N)utopia. The album I gave up on Graveworm.

  • Mon*Star

Not mentioned, Lucifer’s “Lucifer I”. I don’t curse often, but I fucking love that album. Yes, it’s very much in the vein of the Occult Rock boom going on, so if you’re not into that sort of thing you probably won’t be interested, but it’s fantastic. Johanna Sadonis’ voice is a German national treasure.

    • Spear

It must have gotten delayed at some point. I had that listed a few weeks ago, but yeah, Lucifer is quite good.

  • dat Myon is required listening/viewing.

  • Stockhausen

    The butt blasts ov prophecy.

  • Tyree

Damn, to bad there is no stream for the new Nekromanteion EP.

Here is a ripping song off their 2012 demo “Spirit of Darkness”. Nekromanteion don’t fuck around; just keeping it ferocious and mean.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqZYJOF6rrE

  • Celtic Frosty

    High on Fire…

  • Sir Tapir the Based™

Ooooh, I am getting the tickles from Falgar!

  • The W.

I’m only on the first track, but this False album is pretty dope so far. It’s on Spotify!

    • Stanley

Yeah, it’s pretty good. I read a review on another blog (that involves BM and beer) on the weekend and checked it out. It is a dense, suffocating listen for sure.

      • The W.

Has quite a bit of hardcore influence too, Stanley.

  • Kevin Nash & Friends

Yay, a new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody album!

    • Did you liked the single?

      I don’t 🙁

      • For me, I sort of liked it. My main gripe with it was that the drums sounded like they replaced the drum sticks with a pool noodle for recording. The guitar was also too low in the mix.

        • Yeah, the production is very weird, but that’s the price you pay with those symphonic metal productions x_x)

I think one of the best symphonic albums I’ve ever listened was Therion’s Deggial.

Since is too hard to mix all of that, I always give my kudos in those albums.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Oddly enough, my dad loves Therion and recommended them to me one day (I already knew about them long long before). That was weird!

        • Spear

I hope it’s just youtube compression that’s making it sound that way. I like the song well enough, but that mix is just terrible.

          • I hope it is too but the cynic in me is telling me that it probably isn’t.

          • The same happened with last Blind Guardian.

I still love that album because it was my final Gate to the Bards, but, I must recognize is a very weird mix there.

      • Spear

Link, you should give the one I posted above a listen. It’s much better than the first one they put out.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY031PZVNjM

        • “This track was mixed and mastered to deliver the best listening experience using good quality speakers and headphones. Enjoy it at loud volumes!”

          • Spear

            lolbuttz

It’s a decent song, at least.

          • Ohh, I listened this. The chorus is catchy, but I still don’t feel it.

It seems like Luca was eager to pack the songs with orchestras and chorus and forgot the songwriting.

But, yes. This song is better than the first.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Isn’t that pretty much everything he’s EVER done?

        • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

OK, this is more like it! It’s Luca by the numbers, but still pretty daggum good!

          http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs1/1382860_o.gif

      • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

        It wasn’t…………… horrible.

        • Sir Tapir the Based™

          Yes it was.

          • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

It’s approaching it. The second song wasn’t too bad, but goddamn it’s super predictable for anyone who’s listened to Luca/Rhapsody.

  • Tyree
    • Disgustache

Tyree, while my time here has been almost as short as the time I lost my virginity, I have seen that you like to keep it black and metal. Black metal? I like that. I like you.

      • Tyree

Yes, I like my metal to be evil and hateful.

  • DCLXVI

    FAVORITE POST OV MY WEEK!

  • Disgustache

We got new Lady Beast after I just found out about Lady Beast?! [heavy breathing] They really wail. Got this mega babe for a lead singer. Unreal. Commence the heavy grunting and head banging. Maybe banging and then head. Who knows. I can’t even form coherent sentences I’m so excited.

  • Dagon

StoneBirds is killer! They are grooving my boy parts very hard. There are a lot of stoner sensibilities in this album, more than post-metal and sludge. I would say they’re post-Electric Wizard lol

  • Sargeant Honkey Poopypanties

Damn you wallet, I want the new Virgin Steele! Obey me, so I can get that and some halfway decent food! Breakfast at Poopypantie’s place this morning:

GORAK GOT XCOM!!!!!! GORAK GOT BORDERLANDS 2!!!!!!!!!

        • Disgustache

Would Gorak like become friends on Steam to play the righteous games? I’ve got Borderlands 2, GTA V, all that good shit.

          • There’s a TovH Steam group. Y’all all should join it.

          • Disgustache

Why did you tell me to go to that evil place? I just got Dishonored GOTY edition for $10. Oh and I joined the steam group. Thanks Joe! <3

          • The W.

I’m in there. Trying to get a Civ V game together for Saturday.

          • Disgustache

I don’t has the Civ V. Between Cities: Skylines, Fallout New Vegas, BF4 and GTA V, I don’t know that I can get sucked into another sucker of a game.

          • Spent the weekend repairing my old PC. I can theoretically play games with y’all but I only know how to play Binding of Isaac.

          • Disgustache

What are you running up in that beast? Mayhap GabeN will bless you with a game and we could then play!

          • I’m pretty far behind on the vidya. When I have the time I mostly just play SNES games and Fallout.

          • Disgustache

            This is acceptable.

          • Leif Bearikson

            BoI >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

          • Leif Bearikson

Did you ever play Super Meat Boy?

          • Nope. I’ve seen video. It looks… hard.

    • Disgustache

Whether it’s an ATHF reference or something here about a band that I missed, I like your words “The Master.”

    • Go home, KJM, you’re dead stabbed by a teenager with hormone problems 😛

      • KJM

I want to be pissed off at that brat, but those wildlings did kill his family. The rest of them though, fuck them in all their face holes.

        • MoshOff

Those weren’t stabs, just wounds from falling into a plot hole: where the fuck was Ghost the direwolf?

          • KJM

He either “warged” into Ghost, or the Red Witch/Brotherhood Without Banners will resurrect him by the end of season 6.

          • MoshOff

Those are the two main theories, yeah. What bugs me is that in the books it explicitly says that Ghost (who is locked up because he’s fuckin’ Ghost) was acting up and Jon Snow’s like “lol what up dog” and just goes about his day.

          • KJM

I’ve only read the first book thus far, but even on the show Ghost is a bit of a rogue loner. Sam just got lucky that Ghost was in the neighborhood, so to speak. I do think an event of that magnitude would cause Ghost to care a bit more though.

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

Ghost never cared much for Uncle Benjen.

          • MoshOff

That was also the lamest excuse in the Seven Kingdoms to get him there. In the books there’s some “fight” going on and when he goes to see what’s up he gets ambushed.

          • Ghost saved Sam, but didn’t saved him lol.

          • KJM

Maybe… Much like Spock in Star Trek, Ghost could be acting as the repository for Jon’s “spirit”. The Red Witch could decide that Jon’s death didn’t fit her(and Littlefinger’s) plan and resurrect him. Or maybe he’s just dead.

          • MoshOff

He can’t be dead, and if you haven’t read the books or heard about a certain fan theory I can’t tell you why without going on for about three hours haha.

          • I want to read the books 🙁 I’m on the first one still.

          • KJM

            #ASongOfPoopAndPee

          • KJM

I’m aware of the theory that he’s a Targaryen if that’s what you mean.

          • HIDE & REPORT.

            STRANGER DANGER, STRANGER DANGER!

(waiting for 365 days ov horror to save me).

          • KJM

There should be a new thread above. You can run and hide there if you like. ^_^

          • okay :'(

          • KJM

I’ve only read the first book so anything I say is just wild speculation if it makes you feel any better.

          • MoshOff

…yes, but only partially. In the books there’s this continued reference to the “Three Headed Dragon”, but they’ve omitted one very important plotline that has to do with that from the show, so right now I don’t even.

          • KJM

I think I know what you mean there too.

            “You’re no son of mine…”

          • MoshOff

Not quite, but that’s another widespread theory.

          • KJM

Ok, if it’s not that then I don’t even want to know unless it’s just speculation.

    • Tyree

      For the night’s watch.

      • KJM

        : (

      • MoshOff

        “For the shock value”

    • Vladimir Poutine

Ha! I have spotted the wild KJM.

I moved to Somerville a couple days ago. Get at me if you want to grab a beer sometime.

      • KJM

Sometime in July you can meet me at The Burren in Davis Sq.

        • Vladimir Poutine

          It shall be done.

        • Sir Tapir the Based™

Will you be giving out autographs?

          • KJM

I will! At the low low price of 2 joints apiece!

          • Sir Tapir the Based™

I don’t have those. Will Dogecoins do?

          • KJM

Yes. Such coin, very profit. Wow.

  • Tyree
    • Disgustache

Album cover is fucking rad – in like a “we totally slay and are tough as nails, but don’t take ourselves too seriously” kind of way.

      • Tyree

You should check out the pictures on his Facebook page. (NSFW)

        • Disgustache

I might when I get home after school tonight. Durn learnin’ getting in the way of my NSFW picture viewing.

    • Dagon

Does the new album have a release date?
      –Edit–
This is one of the best guitar tones I’ve heard from him. Great stuff.

      • Tyree

        September or October.

  • FUKKBEARD

As always, W. tickles my weiner. I’ll check it when I get home

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

Great intro again @disqus_4cmy05mgrZ:disqus. Very Lovecraftian.

  • Jasper Ringoldsby

    Cailleach man. great stuff!
Also, that VATTNET VISKAR would be right up my alley, but I have to agree with the youtube comments about the production, though according to them it seems to mainly be a youtube issue and not the musicians. Because that crap is mighty swell.

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

I love black metal about trees, but that first track may have reached peak tree.

      • Jasper Ringoldsby

Peak Tree sounds like a snazzy location. Some sturdy old tree alone on the peak. A spot of contemplation, perhaps.

But yeah that song goes a bit far

  • **FLUSH**

no mention of High on Fire…

  • tertius_decimus

Shape of Despair stays the same as in the past. That’s not that bad, you know…

New Graveworm song is great, though sounds too compressed. Compare how sharp-sounding were “Scourge of Malice” and “Engraved in Black”. I love simplier, more agressive sound.

  • Guppusmaximus

I still cannot stop listening to the debut from Alkaloid

    https://alkaloid-band.bandcamp.com/releases

And, Floex released an EP of “Pre-Remixes” for the new Samorost game (3):

    http://store.floex.cz/album/samorost3-pre-remixes-ep-free-dwnld

I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet but Floex is, imho, a really interesting Ambient electronic artist that records quality sounding material, so, I pretty certain you’ll enjoy the whole EP.

    • Lacertilian

@disqus_4cmy05mgrZ:disqus loves his Alkaloid too, you’re in the right place

  • Lacertilian

Shit, this Helde is relentless and pissed off.
Sphere is working, did you get a chance to listen @disqus_4cmy05mgrZ:disqus?
