This Toilet Tuesday (5/31/16)

Welcome to This Toilet Tuesday! I bring you only the finest of metals to help rouse you from your post holiday hedonism comas (for the American crowd anyway- the rest of you should probably gorge yourselves on meat and beer to catch up). With the summer months approaching, the already overwhelming amount of new music is only going to pick up further. If you’re not sold on my picks, feel free to hit the list below; there’s tons of good stuff this week.

Derdian – Revolution Era (Independent) [Power Metal]
Listen to “Lord of War”

Derdian hold a special place in my heart as one of the first metal bands I discovered on my own, and I’m glad to hear they haven’t lost a step since the New Era trilogy. “Lord of War” features the inimitable Fabio Lione on vocals and sounds appropriately reminiscent of Rhapsody, though with a bit more emphasis on the keys. It’s pretty much exactly what you expect it to sound like, love it or hate it. Personally, I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album; this year has seen a drought in ridiculously cheesy power metal, and Derdian will undoubtedly deliver that in spades. 6/3/16 (Spear)

Gevurah – Hallelujah! (Profound Lore Records) [Black Metal]

I’m going to venture a guess that the title Hallelujah! was given ironically, because this is some truly evil sounding shit. This roiling black cloud barrels forth without remorse, consuming everything in its path before settling in and choking the atmosphere. Everything drips with aggression and spite, from the churning guitars to the raw, howled vocals. It’s dense, heavy, and entirely unrelenting. 6/3/16 (Spear)

Virus – Memento Collider (Karisma Records) [Dissonant Prog]
Listen to “Steamer”

It’s probably fair to say that none of us are really strangers to gross-sounding dissonant music at this point, but my admittedly inexperienced ears have never heard anything that sounds quite like Virus before. “Steamer” is both driving and oddly calm with a fair amount of jazz influence (particularly in the drumming), and it’s not as heavy as you might expect. Perhaps most interesting is the exclusive use of clean vocals, which add another layer of off-putting notes to follow and gives the music a unique texture. I’m not sure if I’m completely sold on it yet, but it’s definitely worth a listen. 6/3/16 (Spear)

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

Volbeat was good when I saw them. Jerry Only did a guest appearance with them to sing Angelfuck. Also, that Jorn is good as is Lucifer’s Hammer.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Those Hammer’s rule, both Lucifer’s and Master’s. Melvins too.

    • Janitor Jim Duggan

Amen to that. Lucifer’s Hammer is so good.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Master’s Hammer could be good based on the subgenres.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Their debut is excellent, and would be so even if it didn’t have the Fenriz seal of approval it does.

But their later, more experimental, material is a good too.

  • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Virus sounds like good packing music.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

… and of course it comes out Friday. Damn it all.

  • I’ll be curious to hear that new Balmog material.

  • fun fact: been friends with Derdian for yeaaarsss

    • Groo The Wanderer

I found out about them when they friended me on Myspace ages ago. Back in ancient times. Definitely checking out the new one. I thought they broke up quite a while back, TBH.

  • I’m digging this Derdian song, Spearrow! Thanks for your hard work!

Baalsebub is super fun, sounds like those times when I was a little half-elf kid and I made fake drums with boxes and my mom’s cooking pots. Next time there’s a “cacerolazo” protest near me I will blast this.

Didn’t knew about the new Feared rerecordings, Ola Englund style is cool.

I liek this new Candlemass, too.

    Also, new Yngwie? Whaat?

  • Groo The Wanderer
  • Elegant Gazing Globe

can someone shortcut me to the cave-core death metal?

  • Dubs

What I’ve heard of that Gevurah album so far is great. FFO: Aosoth and Order of Orias.

    • Lacertilian

  • JWEG

New Jorn album = just realized I missed a week of lurking on AMG reviews.

    …oh. It’s just covers.

Can’t be much worse than when SFU does it…

    • Groo The Wanderer

His Dio tribute album (posted at the very bottom of this thread) was pretty badass. I forget which album it was on, but he also did a kickass version of Christopher Cross’ otherwise lolbuttz ‘Ride Like The Wind’.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Oh fharc, BaalseLilBub’s snare are out of this world.

  • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Lolbuttz AND buttcore??? This week is gonna be exhausting

  • Scrimm

Any week with a New Stadard Elite release is a good week

  • Stanley

I really like that Morthus tune. I’ve been playing that one and the new one they just released quite a bit. Also ordered the LP. Here’s the other song for those too lazy too search for it.

    • shit, first 10 seconds crush it already. i think i’m going to enjoy this.

    • Dubs

I downloaded one of their releases (an EP I think) because of folks around here. Good stuff.

      • Stanley

Ha ha. That would have been me.

        • Dubs

I tip my exoskeleton to you, Stanley. My memory for music related matters hasn’t quite been what it normally is this year.

  • 365ChaosRiddenDays

I think that album by Gevurah is truly intense and ferocious with an intricate composition who makes it interesting and without boring parts, maybe one of the revelations of this year.

  • Groo The Wanderer

“No one’s gonna buy those other CDs, because people don’t wanna buy donkey shit that sounds like everything else on the radio, ya know? Get yo pull, son!” -H3lly3ah’s guitarist (if his new interview is any indication)

  • tertius_decimus

The Vision Bleak is solid, as usual, though nothing new under the moon. Volbeat’s new song is “Dead But Rising”, vol. 2. And I’d listen to that new Yngwie Malmbro shit.

    • Wooo!!! The Vision Bleak sounds great. It have some gothic rock vibe in those baritone vocals.

      • tertius_decimus

You’re absolutely solely right, mr. Leonhart. Though, “The Deathship Has a New Captain” and “Carpathia – A Dramatic Poem” are still their best two.

        • Will check them out. Thanks, bruh!

          • tertius_decimus

            Enjoy, bruh!

        • CT-12

          Required listening for October

          • tertius_decimus

The Vision Bleak works ok in any time of the year, IMO.

  • Yngwie>>>>>>>

Seen him in 07′ it what dope as french-toast.

    • tertius_decimus

Always a good fun to make fun of His EGO.

      • Groo The Wanderer
        • tertius_decimus

No, it’s not the bird salute, he’s preparing to make a bend on a 6th string through the whole fretboard.

          • Groo The Wanderer

(hoping I got this right, but I meant to write “Oh you!” in the Ukrainian dialect)

          • tertius_decimus

            You’ve hit the nail! 😀

          • Groo The Wanderer

What are some fun curse words in Ukrainian (first thing I want to know when learning another language)?

          • tertius_decimus

Єбанько — ye-ban’kó (means “the stupid one”, person who has very low intelligence, the radix “yeb” means “to fuck”, it’s purely Ukrainian and has many variations for insult anyone with so many contextes that it’s hard to tell where to start). Russian and Ukrainian insults are almost the same, based around four explicit words: “хуй” — khuy (a cock), “пизда” — peezdá (a cunt), “блядь” — blyad’ (a whore) and numerous words with “yeb” radix.

Говнюк — govn’yuk (“douchebag”, “asshole”). “Govnó” means “shit”.

There’s also Polish word bydło that you can hear everywhere on a regular basis in CIS countries. Originally it means “draft cattle”. You can insult someone with this word if he or she is the person with either low intelligence and addiction to violence. Aggresive stupid moron who can’t deal with problems other than using knuckles due to lack of intellect is a bydlo.

          • Groo The Wanderer

I’m guessing Russian is a close language, or perhaps Bulgarian. One of the few things I know how to say in Russian is ‘Poshno ma hoy” (go fuck your mom).

          • tertius_decimus

            > ‘Poshno ma hoy

Wrong. “Poshel na khuy”. “Poshel” translates as “went”, “to go” in the past tense. Past tense here is being used to sound more agressive even though it’s a mistake in absolute terms. Should hava been “idi na khuy”, in present. “Na” means “on”, “onto”.

            > go fuck your mom

Wrong. It doesn’t say anything about someone’s mom. It’s depersonalized. Close meaning in English is “fuck off”.

          • BACH!!!!!!!!

Kinda like the term “chuch” in Chicago. If you’re saying it amongst friends, it’s like “all good” (at the end of a sentence). Otherwise, it’s like saying “fight me”. And yeah, that won’t end well. I haven’t said it in years.

          • more beer

So fuck is used pretty much the same way as here.

          • tertius_decimus

It may sound too bold to be true, but the irony is… it’s true: people are the same all over the globe. The same greed, hypocrisy and so on.

          • more beer

            You are correct.

    • tertius_decimus

The biggest things in the Universe in particular order:

      6. Virgo Supercluster;
      5. Eridanus Supervoid;
      4. Pisces-Cetus Supercluster complex;
      3. Planck temperature;
      2. Yngwie’s Ego;
      1. Graham’s number.

As Yngwie hasn’t become the God of All yet, just humble God-like Best Guitar playing creature of the observable Universe, he has to overcome Graham’s insane number which is bigger than the Multiverse that does exist only in theory. But something says that Yngwie will defeat some bloke Graham (who’s that, really?). Give Him some time.

    • Janitor Jim Duggan

His ego is so gigantic it makes the person who has the most inflated ego ever look humble.

      • He just cannot leggo his ego.

        • Groo The Wanderer

Eggo waffles? Makes sense, since he’s definitely not a donut guy.

      • Groo The Wanderer

Nope, his ego is nowhere near a Terrence Trent D’Arby, Kanye West, Liam Gallagher or Morrissey.

        • Janitor Jim Duggan

I can’t decide who has a bigger ego among these 4 people.

        • Dave Vincent’s Perm

Dave Vincent has a wank doll that looks like Dave Vincent.

  • Baalsebub is rocking my world right now.

    Dat snare sound! *swooooon*

How to get a pull, Yngwie’s way.

    1. Practice.
    2. Send your demos wherever you can, wherever DHL, Fedex, UPS and Deutsche Post combined may deliver.
    3. Get a Fender® Stratocaster®. There is Fender® and other guitars.
    4. Other guitars are allowed to practice until you get a Fender® Stratocaster®. Don’t show anyone you have Yamaha Pacifica 112j, it’s a Japanese Fender® Stratocaster® counterfeit.
    5. Japanese people are awesome.
    6. Even if they counterfeit Fenders®.
    7. Practice 16 hours a day! Chord progressions and legato are your best friends. Leave sweep picking for those weedly-deedly kids — it’s not REAL music.
    8. Scallop the fretboard so you can play faster.
    9. Listen to J.S. Bach’s polyphonic toccatas. J.S. Bach was the biggest composer in history.
    10. Till the day Me, The Great God Of Music was born.
    11. Learn from J.S. Bach alot.
    12. Practice.
    13. Did anyone sent you a feedback on your demo? No? You didn’t try hard enough.
    14. Rolex® is REAL.
    15. Ferrari® is REAL.
    16. Fender® Stratocaster®, Rolex® and Ferrari® were born from celestial seed to please The Great God Of Music.
    17. It’s orchestra plays with Yngwie, not Yngwie plays with orchestra.

    Got a pull? No? Practice!

    • YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE #19 !!!!!
