Öxxö Xööx – Nämïdäë (Blood Music) [Dark Metal]
Listen to “Äbÿm”

Öxxö Xööx, everybody’s favorite extravagant, flamboyant, avant-doom band is here again. And damn, does Nämïdäë sound good. Black metal, sympho-electronic gothica and harpischords are combined to a damn near flawless masterpiece once again and Rïcïnn is still the only operatic metal vocalist who doesn’t suck and blow at the same time. (Karhu)

Monolord – Vænir (Riding Easy Records) [Doom]
Stream

I always thought that Doom Metal is one of the hardest style to pull off in a good fashion. Monolord are Swedish maestros of the fuzz magic and they Doom and gloom in the right way. The music is introspective, with a high emphasis of a muddy and liquid atmosphere. The compositions are long, but it’s a pleasant ride. There’s crunchy bass sided with straight-forward drumming, accompanying the ethereal voice and the monolithic riffs. Think of this record as a lonely journey in a mythical oceanic city to discover your own self. I know this will be in a couple of doom year-end lists, because this is quality music. (Link Leonhart)

Atara – The Worst is Yet to Come (MoodisordeR Prod) [Blackgrind]
Stream

Do you remember watching Fantasia as a kid and getting scared crapless by the Chernabog demon during the Night on Bald Mountain sequence? Okay, picture that demon, but a lot faster and totally swoll. Now picture him rampaging through your home town, crushing everything under foot as he punches into buildings and unleashes hordes of skeletons to flay the skins of the living. This is the sound Atara conjures on The Worst Is Yet to Come. FFO: Bastard Feast, Anaal Nathrakh, Cara Neir (W.)

a1954727056_10

Blurring – Blurring (Independent) [Grindcore]
Listen to “Terminus and the Wing,” “The Devil I Know”

Skronk skronk. Blast blast blast. Atmospheric riff. Skronk. Blast blast. Crunch crunch crunch. Shriek shriek. Rinse. Repeat. Oh, Danny Lilker is involved too. FFO: Piss Vortex, Oblivionized, God Mother (W.)

Bell Witch – Four Phantoms (Profound Lore) [Doom]
Stream

I always thought Bell Witch’s debut album, Longing, was overlooked a bit by doom enthusiasts. It wasn’t a perfect album by any means as it seemed to get lost within itself and ramble a bit, but it showed promise. Their follow up, Four Phantoms, delivers on that promise and then some. It might be a bit strange to call an album with two 20 minute tracks “focused”, but it certainly feels that way. Every whisper, every wail, and every bombast feels like it was painstakingly arranged for maximum sorrow and listener attention. If you like your doom glacial and depressing, here is your album of the year. (Leif Bearikson)

Dawn of Azazel – The Tides of Damocles (Independent) [Death Metal]
Stream

If you like your death metal chaotic and violent, then this is your album. The Tides of Damocles is incredibly punishing, tying you to the breaking wheel and pummeling you with a flurry of harsh chords and blastbeats. The slow sections offer no reprieve, only serving to amplify the madness. It’s torturous, and you will be addicted. (Spear)

(Images VIA, VIA, VIA, VIA, VIA, and VIA)

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))
    • Mother Shabubu III

This sounds and looks ominous. Should be an album title.

  • Guacamole Jim
  • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

Damnit. The box set I wanted that was supposed to be released today was delayed until next week.

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))
  • Cain’s Offering is great if you like simple, straight forward power metal that hasn’t COMPLETELY forgotten the guitar exists, but not as riffy as USPM

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aixp4ENDtUc

    • It’s for the fans of vocal melodic driven metal. FFO: Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and all of that.

I listened to it, but I wasn’t in the mood for that.

I mean, I was in need of some riffs 😛

    • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I’ll give this a listen. Frontiers has a stellar track record in my opinion.

    • The Beargod

      Guitarist from Sonta Arctica
      +
      Vocalist from Stradivarius
      =
      Mmehhh.

      • Actiondonkey

PM should make me want to soar to Valhalla on the wings of a goddamn war eagle; and while both those bands have some good material, this track seemed somewhat uninspired.

  • Actiondonkey

Love me some Korpiklaani! Perfect for Jeep rides through the hills. Not their best work here but it’s a sample from their new album.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWCowljfU0s&list=PLB4brr7vf-P4XdpFHxoUvVeoWeWpvuUak&feature=iv&src_vid=lCGlO2Ssqwk&annotation_id=annotation_2243542645

    • Guacamole Jim

Korpiklaani is always a blast. Oft times, my friends and I will gather together, all bring various kinds of foods to someone’s basement/backyard, blast folk metal, eat with our fingers, and consume vast quantities of beer. This sort of music is indispensable to such get-togethers.

      • Actiondonkey

Your friends sound much cooler than mine.

        • Everyone else is thinking the opposite.

          • Actiondonkey

Just not a lot of Metal fans here in lower Alabama. Then the ones who do like ‘metal’ listen to shit like Parkway Drive. However, I’m moving to Tampa next month which will be awesome.

    • THIS IS SO FUN! 😀

  • ümläüt

  • Shrimp ov Whatever

Dawn of Azazel FUCKING RIPS. Will probably listen to that Korpiklaani somewhere in the distant future.

    • Spear

I listened through Tides of Damocles three times yesterday. The last track is absolutely crushing, even in comparison to the rest.

      • Shrimp ov Whatever

You’re just teasing me now bby.

        • Spear

          ;D

  • Tyree

“Veneficae” by Boar is now available for complete streaming on the below link. Some sick stoner doom available May 1st.

  • Scrimm

Got to get to the record store.

  • JJD and i are excited to see Deathro Tull… listening… *gasps

    • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I don’t see this band you speak of. Where are they?

    • Spear

I was tempted to give them the dreaded lolbuttz tag, but I think it would have worked better with some cleaner production. I think they’ve got potential, at least.

      • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I’m listening and this is the worst production I have heard in years, even worse than Forbidden by Black Sabbath.

      • i think their heart is in the right spot, but that’s about it. off to mumfordandsonscore!

        • Scrimm

          Oh wow, that was …something.

      • KJM

        Deathro Tull >>>>>>>

  • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Checking out Bell Witch’s Four Phantoms. I was having some problems getting it to play yesterday but it seems to be fine now.

    • The Beargod

      It’s *good*

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Seems like some good shit to have on in the background of this work search.

  • Thrashed to Kill —> Thrashnkill
    The conspiracy is thickening…

I’m down with that Dawn of Azazel and of course that Necrosy. Link killing it with that description of Monolord, great job!

  • The Beargod

    *hastily looks around*
That Öxxö Xööx is very tasty.
*moves to another location in the middle of the crowd*
Yeah! Let’s all try that new Öxxö Xööx!

    • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

      I feel the same way…

      • The Beargod

At least Blurring is getting anlther chance.

        • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

          DANNY LILKER!

    • Taylor Jong Un

Don’t lie. We all know that you’ve been getting all itchy for your favorite band, Korpiklaani’s, new release!

    • Whoa, they created their own language for their music? This shit’s interesting.

      • Taylor Jong Un

Nothing new with that. Sigur Ros has been doing that for ages. Same with Cocteau Twins.

          • Shrimp ov Whatever

            Bottom right corner ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

          • illuminati EVERYWHERE

          • Taylor Jong Un

Nyeah! They’re excellent, and put on an excellent live show. Got to see them at the Chicago Theater years ago (on the ‘Tak’ tour), and it was saaaaawwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeet!

        • The Beargod

Sigur Ros creating a new language is very debatable, it’s very, very, very strongly based on nordic languages. A little too strong.

          • Taylor Jong Un

Hopelandic is supposed to be a cross between Icelandic and outright gibberish, kinda like Cocteau Twins would through in something resembling an actual English word here and there.

          • The Beargod

Yeah, but for me if I can just guess 99% of what they are saying, it doesn’t really drive the stake through. Rather record in Enochian.

          • Taylor Jong Un

Either way, Sigur Ros RULES, even if you can or can’t guess what they’re saying.

          • The Beargod

Yeah, they used to be pretty awesome.

          • Taylor Jong Un

Still are, but yeah not as much.

          • The Beargod

I didn’t really dig the latest album.

          • Taylor Jong Un

I gave it a couple of spins and forgot about it. I doubt they’ll make another one as good as Aegetys Byrjun.

          • The Beargod

            I liked Valtari very much.

      • Sir Tapir the Based™

        Magma did it already.

        • I’m not saying they are the first to do this, it’s just an interesting aspect of their music. They straddle a weird line between corny operatic synthy stuff and darker, heavier shit.

      • The Beargod

Öxxö Xööx = 69 on that language.

    • Sir Tapir the Based™

      Dis ain’t bad.

    • Guacamole Jim

Not my jam, personally. The vocals and synth patches feel too Randall Thor.

    • I was writing this, but I saw your comment and I’m going for a reply:

“I trust in Blood Music. I listened GosT, Irreversible Mechanism, Serdce and I saw that they have new Kauan, so they’re becoming a favorite because they release quality stuff.

This Oxxo Xoox is very fun. It reminded me to A Forest of Stars but without all the black merol and a more prog rock approach. But the vocals are very hard to digest, to me”.

  • Guacamole Jim

Monolord is rad as fuck!! Great recommendation, Mr. Leonhart.

    • n-n) Woah, Guac approved!

I will delve into that Monolord once more to have a more definite conclusion between this and Saturndust.

      • Guacamole Jim

It’s really good and heavy, but holds onto a solid sludgy rock vibe throughout, which I dig. The vocals are really cool too, with the heavy delay. Burying them in the mix was a good choice.

      • Taylor Jong Un

I agree! The music itself reminds me alot of Triptykon, but the vocals definitely set it apart. 9/10 tendies, with hot mole sauce!

        • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

          This sounds nothing like Triptykon.

          • The Beargod

            It’s slow-ish

          • Taylor Jong Un

            Does to me!

          • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

Do you have corn stuck in your ears?

          • Taylor Jong Un
          • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

I suppose in that condition things could all sound the same.

          • Taylor Jong Un

            Most likely. :-p

          • Taylor Jong Un

Then again, 90% of all doom sounds the same to me.

          • The Beargod

Never come to Finland if you don’t wish to be “educated”

          • Taylor Jong Un

What, educate me about the Finnish tradition of getting naked and hopping in the sauna with a bunch of fat, hairy dudes (I dunno if the women are hairy over there, but I’ll assume they are)?

          • The Beargod

Our women resemble the dwarves of Tolkien.
            (It’s the beard)

          • Taylor Jong Un
          • i have the strangest boner right now

          • Taylor Jong Un
          • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

I won’t argue with that point.

          • Dagon

I think you misspelled power metal. Although doom is quite repetitive these days.

          • Taylor Jong Un

Nah, power metal’s way way wayyyyyyyyyy more diverse than most of the doom out there. I like doom, but it’s a rarity.

          • The Beargod

You obvs haven’t even tried anything I’ve written about and is doom. Pleb. Very diverse.

          • Taylor Jong Un

I have, plenty of times. Not much sticks to me as far as doom. This Monolord stuff though definitely catches my interest though.

          • Guppusmaximus

Yea, a lot of what’s being called Doom nowadays sounds more like slow-tempo Garage Rock, imho. But, I’m an old dude that grew up listening to Candlemass:)

          • Every genre right now is difficult to pick because it’s saturated x.x)

But, I think grindcore, doom, power metal and death metal have become very very formulaic.

          • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

Link, we’ll be touching on this very issue this afternoon.

          • Woah, your tentacles reach everything!

          • Actiondonkey

Perhaps the speed and tone of the guitars, but I also don’t see much relation there.

          • Taylor Jong Un

Yeah, the speed and the tone more than anything.

    • KJM

      Agreed.

  • Maik Beninton

    What the hell is Mumfordandsonscore?

    • Guacamole Jim

      Indie pseudo bluegrass hipster bullshit.

    • i heard no core on that song, just str8 mumford and sons

    • Dr. W.’s Tentacles
      • Taylor Jong Un

Then comes the rednecky rape and shouts of “squeal like a pig boy!” and “you sure do have a purty mouth!”.

    • Taylor Jong Un

      Starbuckscore for neckbeards.

  • mono means “one”, and lord means “lord”!

    • KJM

Were you sent here by Teh Devil?

    • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

      El Nino means?

  • That Dawn of Azazel sounds pretty good. Blurring is crazy.

    • Maik Beninton

      Did you check Ósserp?
      It’s pretty good.

      • I’ll check it when I get home. Can’t find on youtube using my iPod touch.

    • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

      Hurray! Recognition for Blurring.

  • nbm02ss

I don’t really have anything witty, or any memes to share, but I hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday.

    • I second this motion.

      SM

      • Maik Beninton

What’s the name of your band, Swolly Mammoth?

        • No sir. It is just a terrible joke about some one being “swole”.

          SM

          • Maik Beninton

I was expecting a name for a gym metal band.

          • #Swolecore

          • J.R.

            10/10 reps, would listen to.
the album Mad Gains, by GnarPump, with such killer tracks as “Shredded”, “Swole Team Six”, and of course the titular “Mad Gains”.

    • Guppusmaximus

After, roughly, a month of non-solid trips to the toilet & losing 15Lbs,the results finally came back. I got a non-fatal strain of Salmonella and am on antibiotics. So, I may have a happier Tuesday next week:) TMI??

      • Glad you’re not gonna shit yourself to death!

        • Guppusmaximus

Yea, that would be a crappy way to go out.. *Ba-Dum-Boom-Tiss*

          • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

            *metal way to go FTFY

          • Guppusmaximus

Only if my spine came out through my rectum. *Fatality* Salmonella Wins:)

          • Guppusmaximus
          • Simon “Djentcrusher” Phoenix

This was an absolute stroke of genius btw.

      • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

Held out for a month? Damn..that’s hardcore!

        • Guppusmaximus

Well, I went to the ER 2 days after the initial symptoms and they assured me it was just a Stomach Flu. So, I waited 2 weeks for it run its course with no luck. Finally, I decided to see my Primary Care Doctor and he had to do a blood test & I had to give them samples (Mmm,mmm…not so good). The blood tests came back as an unspecified inflammation but I still had to wait 4-5 days for the sample results. Once those came back positive then the doctor prescribed me antibiotics. Long story short, the ER is the only thing hardcore here…Hardcore Stupid:)

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

ok! yes I usually get in to see someone as soon as possible (if possible)…what nightmare man! Glad to hear your on the mend..that had to suck!

          • Guppusmaximus

Thanks man:) I lucked out because there wasn’t any vomiting but the weight loss was kind of scary. I think the antibiotics are doing the trick…i hope:)

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

Yea that would be scary as fuck. I had an emergency appendectomy in September last year. I had a major change in diet prior to and thought my stomach distress was a result of that I waited 4 days and when I began to get cold sweats and dry heaves my wife said lets go to the e- room. I just made it prior to it bursting…wasn’t trying to be a tough guy I just read it wrong.

          • Guppusmaximus

Holy Shit. Yea, it’s real easy not to take stuff seriously. It’s wild that something we no longer need in our body (appendix) can cause a nearly fatal problem. I’ve been in for some semi-crazy problems but for some reason this was a bit scarier. Probably, because I had no idea what was up and it was going on for pretty much a month. Oh well, I guess we’re lucky to be living where we are…

    • J.R.

It’s my first day of Summer Break until Summer Classes start, so I’ve slept in like a pig and am spending the day in my jammies being gross. Might go get free Krispy Kreme with the female later though.
      How’s your Tuesday nbm02ss?

      • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

        damn that sounds awesome….

        • J.R.

It’s pretty rad dude. However, all of my buddies are still mired down with Finals, so I’m trying to motivate myself to tackle my video game backlog, but I’ll probably end up lurking the TovH comments all day and playing Titanfall/League like a mindless drone.

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

love it: “motivate myself to tackle my video game backlog” hahah and “playing Titanfall/League like a mindless drone.” mixed in with food…sooo kick ass.

          • J.R.

The problem with food is that I have to leave my dungeon to get it. Unlike some people on this website I cannot subsist on metal alone

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

            AGREED brother!

          • J.R.

So there was a snaffu at the KK and we ended up getting 48 donuts. She took half and I took half. So I got a dozen glazed and then 3 choc glaze, 3 reg glaze, 3 kreme filled, and then 3 of these dandy looking S’mores dudes.

I let my brother’s entourage attack the glazed, but the smores and kreme filled are for me and me alone.

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

A Snaffu and ending up with 48 donuts DOES NOT COMPUTE! Thats killer..and damn do those look good. So if you took 24 your bro and his friends took 14? Damn!

          • J.R.

The promotion was “Buy a dozen get a dozen”, so my girlfriend and I figured we would get us some. So we went and picked what all we wanted but APPARENTLY it meant “get a dozen regular-ass glazed donuts with whatever dozen you get”. So since we each got “Assorted Dozens”, we could’nt get the other assorted for free.
So we each got an assorted plus 12 regular glazed.
In the picture you see the two that I ate before taking the picture. My mom+bro+his pals took a few regulars from the other box, which is not shown.

          • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

Haha thats awesome…enjoy man! Now its video games and donuts, no homework and more of the same tomorrow. KICK ASS!

            cause thats whats up g!

      • nbm02ss

Free Krispy Kreme? I’m envious. Fucking diet.

It’s been good. Pretty standard, no drama day at work, and I just ordered my IMAX tickets for Avengers 2 on Friday. I haven’t been to the movies in ages, so I hope it’s good. Other than Mad Max, this summer seems rather dismal for blockbusters (I know JP4 comes out, but I have low expectations for that).

        • J.R.

All of my buddies are super pumped about the new JP, but as I havent seen the other ones I guess I am left out. I think we are gonna storm through them on my account so we can all go see the new one though.
I need to talk to my other buddies about seeing Avengers, and I agree about the lack of block busters. Really I’m just waiting for Pacific Rim 2 to come out down the road. Gotta start prepping now!

  • Dagon

Not sure if I suck but what usually draws me to these records is the cover. This week is full of good covers.

  • The only band that I stuck with was The Tide of Damocles. They are tight tight tight!

    SM

  • The Beargod

Dear Spear, Öxxö Xööx’s very own bandcamp page would have had more songs streaming, but if yo wanna link elsewhere…

    • Spear

Right. Next time I’m listing and verifying release dates, labels, and music sources for 100+ bands every week, I’ll make sure to check EVERY source. :p

      • The Beargod

You mean you aren’t? I am disappoint.

(isn’t BC the most obvs for all?)

        • Spear

It’s not always the first thing that comes up in a google search, and it saves me a lot of time if I can use the first thing I see.

  • Dagon

I can’t seem to tag Dr. Dubz on my phone so this will have to do.

There was a TV show during my formative years in BRASIL also called Fantasia. It was crucial to the development of my ~great~ personality.

    • Maik Beninton

      I can’t remember that show.

      • Dagon

My guess is you’re too young. But maybe not. It used to air on SBT.

        • Maik Beninton

          I never watched SBT.
          It was always TV Globinho.

          • Dagon

            Hahahha you are too young

  • KJM

    Monolord >>>>>>>>>

    • Tyree

Just started it here. Fucking sick.

      • KJM

        It’s great.

        • Tyree

Those vocals make the hair on my neck stand straight up, and that guitar tone is just crushing my head into pulp. Great indeed.

          • Guppusmaximus

It’s pretty good… I guess I still miss actual soaring solos over this type of stuff without losing the rhythm guitar and maybe not so much effects on the vocals. Just my .02:)

          • Tyree

Check out the Boar release I posting in the comment section here. That has some pretty unique lead guitar sections through out.

          • Guppusmaximus

Heading out to lunch…I will check it out when I come back. Though, I will always be on the hunt for a hybrid Candlemass / Confessor style of Doom:)

  • I’M ON VACATION!

I’ve always wondered this: is the long list of music after the article ends meant to be good or not? Like are we supposed to go through it at our leisure because one of the writers likes it or is it just a random compilation of new music?

    • Dr. W.’s Tentacles

It’s just everything else released this week. We each pick something that piques our interest, but we obviously don’t cover every worthwhile release.

    • Spear

Sorry for the late response, but to expand on what Dr. W. said, it’s everything that I found that is coming out this week. I omit compilations, live albums, reissues, and (I may catch some shit for this) NSBM. Once I’ve finished compiling the list, I send it to the rest of the Toilet Tuesday writers and we all just grab something that sounds interesting.

  • Bell Witch, Dawn of Azazel, Öxxö Xööx, and Monolord are all getting checked out because I like their album covers.

  • JWG

I like Glittertind a lot, but your genre note is very apt.

I didn’t think ‘Blåne for blåne’ was anywhere near release yet, as I can find nowhere domestically that even hints at its existence, let alone a future release or spot for future inventory.

Does it not have North American distribution yet?

  • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

    Let us not forget:

    Carnivore Disprosopus-Condemmed by the Alliance!

  • J.R.

This Cain’s Offering is pretty good! Usually I’m not too keen on this kind of Pahwah Mehtal but hey!

  • CT-12

I loved Bell Witch’s first demo, but someone either in their band or their “entourage” fucked with my friends car, so I can’t really support them. Definitely can say their demo fucking rules though.

  • Hotdog Clifford

Holy shit Dawn of Azazel is da bomb

  • there is so much stuff I like here this week….keep coming back to this page
