This Toilet Tuesday (4/14/15)

It was an excruciating day at work. You were so hung over from the night before that you barely remember any of it, save for spending the entirety of your lunch break vomiting in the staff room’s sink. All the coffee you pounded throughout the day is starting to take its revenge, but there’s no going back now. The building is locked and you’re already getting in your car anyway. Just gotta hold it for a few minutes, you tell yourself as you pull out of the parking lot.

Turns out a few minutes was too much. The bloating feeling in your abdomen has become agonizing, your bowels screaming for relief. You limp as quickly as you can from your car once you reach the driveway; going too fast will surely spell your doom. You fumble with your keys at the front door, losing precious seconds. The cat runs for its life as you burst through the front door and hobble towards the bathroom. When he sees that it’s just you, however, he picks the worst time to be affectionate. He steps in front of you and rubs against your shin, upsetting your stuttering gait. You tumble forward and crack your head on the tile, inches from the toilet. Woozy from the blow, you accept defeat as your bowels unleash their gastric catastrophe into your pants.

In the grim darkness of This Toilet Tuesday, there is only filth.

Bretus – The Shadow Over Innsmouth (BloodRock Records) [Doom]
Preview

I don’t typically like album teasers. Unlike modern movie trailers, album trailers really give very little idea of what you’re truly going to encounter on a record. However, it is fairly obvious from this teaser of Bretus’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth that we’re in for riff worship and mid-range vocal theatrics. This is not a bad thing. Stoned Lovecraft fans are quite likely in for a treat here. FFO: KJM, Ufomammut, Black Sabbath (W.)

Voivotus – Oma Randa (Independent) [Blackgaze]
Stream

Let’s get sad! Did the Ghost Bath false origin story leave a bad taste in your mouth? Do you spend hours staring at the floor trying to put your feelings into words? Do you like black metal more focused on self-alienation and the frailty of life than satanic werewolves acting unbecoming towards women of the cloth? Then Russian blackgazers Voivotus have just the thing for you in Oma Randa. FFO: Ghost Bath, Deafheaven, So Hideous (W.)

Regurgitate Life

Regurgitate Life – The Defiled Face of Existence (Independent) [Tech Death]
Stream

Regurgitate Life is a band I only just recently discovered but I’m really digging them. They write exceptional technical brutal death metal. Honestly, this band reminds me a LOT of Deeds of Flesh. Definitely worth your time if you are a DOF fan. Check em out. (Jack Bauer)

penitenziagite

Penitenziagite – Humanity Galore (On Parole) [Death Metal]
Listen

Sometimes in the endless pursuit of something heavier, something more challenging, we forget to sit back and simply enjoy the music. It’s for these moments that I turn to bands like Penitenziagite. They are refreshing in their straightforwardness, with their distinctly old-school approach to riffing and Deicide-esque vocal delivery. With just enough technical aptitude and shredding to keep things interesting without becoming self-servicing, this is headbanging material at its finest. (Spear)

Infernal War – Axiom (Agonia Records) [Death Metal]
Listen to “Into Dead Soil,” “Transfigure”

This was my first experience with Infernal War, but it most definitely will not be my last. They clearly give away their Polish nationality with a furious slab of blackened death metal, punctuating their tunes with blazing solos and feverish tremolo riffs. Fans of Behemoth and Hate will surely find themselves windmilling along, or pumping their HAIL! fists halfway through “Into Dead Soil” when the song slows to a plodding, headbangable groove. If you’re tired of relenting in your life, keep your eye on this album for a new personal soundtrack. Pick it up here. (Stockhausen)

outre-creepy-alraune-thing

Outre – Ghost Chants (Godz ov War) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Chant 3 – The Fall”

I love that black metal is getting more multifaceted. The grim, bleak mood created by the music here is absolutely black metal, but the vocal delivery in Outre could just as easily work in a death metal band. The two styles merge fantastically, and the excellently paced sections of “Chant 3 – The Fall” give the listener distinct landmarks for a distinctly memorable tune. The guitars cover a range of approaches, making time for some dissonant moments and clearing a space for atmospheric throat singing around the halfway point. Based on this one song, I have some seriously high hopes for this album. I enjoyed their split with Thaw, and I have every reason to believe this offering will be fantastic. (Stockhausen)

  • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

Bladecatcher is a good band name. I also am happy for the new Apocalyptica album because cello-core is awesome.

    • Spear

They might have been worth listening to if not for that guitar tone.

      • Dr. Dubz

I actually sent Leif that promo because I thought something was off. He said the same thing you did.

        • It seems like it’s slightly out of tune. Or maybe that’s intentional?

          • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

            It could be intentional.

          • Spear

I don’t know, but when I play death metal, I definitely do it all on the neck pickup through a cigarette box amp.

          • RustyShackleford

            BO DIDDLEY!

    • Big Poppa Penis Pump

I thought the whole gimmick would’ve died off back in ’98. Apparently I was wrong. Rasputina >>>>>>>>>> Apocalyptica.

  • Apocolyptica: “cellocore.” 😀

BRB gonna go edit their wiki page.

    • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

      It was a hilarious joke.

  • CyberneticOrganism

That Outre is fucking badass, why the fuck can’t I download it?

    http://i.onionstatic.com/avclub/5393/73/original/640.jpg

    • Dr. Dubz

      Humans only.

  • Dr. Dubz

Is it just me, or is our golden bowl picking up jpeg artifacts?

    • I see ’em. Looks blurry as phuck.

      • just wait for the Full Dynamic Range photos to come out

        • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

That would be exciting to see.

        • Stanley

Jimmy – How was the Testament/Exodus show the other night?

          • just wonderful! it was Exodus’s drummer’s birthday so someone brought out a cake and we all sang happy birthday, which was hilarious.
and you were right about Chuck Billy. EVERY vocal break, he was jamming away on the light saber! also, didn’t know Alex Skolnick was such a ham!

          • Stanley

Skolnick certainly likes to get his guitar face on. He’s had years of practice at it. The boy can shred though. I’m glad that you enjoyed it.

          • Dr. Dubz

Dude, Chuck Billy is such a phenomenal frontman live!

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

Goddamnit, my roomy/friend just told me about Lunatic Luau today, and most of the tickets already sold out. I was going to see Slayer, Exodus, and Testament, and it’s the only game in town here for music fests. The rest of the lineup is super lolbuttz though.

          • Stanley

I think you may have dodged a bullet there. I don’t think I’d pay to see that line up. Testament and Exodus tour quite a lot now so should be plenty of opportunities to see them again. Slayer get on my tits so bad that I can hardly even play Reign In Blood anymore. As for the rest of the line up….well, you said it best.

    • CyberneticOrganism

It’s always looked that way to me. We could use a new pic.

    • I thought it looking like pixelated bullshit was part of the charm

      • Dr. Dubz

We really should put a watermark on it.

    • Spear

Hasn’t it always looked that way? Oh well, I’ll try something new next week.

      • Dr. Dubz

Sorry, it wasn’t a criticism! I guess I just noticed it this week for some reason.

        • Spear

Why can’t anything I do be good enough for you? T_T

          • Dr. Dubz

Your father and I are very proud of who you’ve become.

  • KJM

I have fans? Hopefully it’s not too late to get them the help they need.

Lotsa Doom/Sludge this week, nice. Bretus is cool, but the new Acid King is great, haven’t checked the others yet.

  • Tyree

Played that new Dopethrone twice last night. Surprised my place did not collapse.

    • OldMetalHead

Sold for the low low price of $6.66. lol

      • Tyree

        Worth it.

        • OldMetalHead

          I just downloaded it.

          • Tyree

Now we just need Dankthrone to happen. Joe is in, I forget who else was.

          • IT GOATS IT GOATS IT GOATS

            What is this?

          • Tyree

            Our Toilet band.

  • Guacamole Jim

Off topic, but I wanted to share my ass with you chums, so you could all see how brutally it was devastated by that damn pole. Inb4 Papa Joe bans me for posting n00ds #thuglife #banrandall

  • Actiondonkey

    Damn cats always causing problems

  • Shrimp ov Bad Opinions

Digging Penitenziagite. Can’t listen to that specific song by Outre because bandcamp is being a dick, but their first EP that they got out on Spotify is pretty damn good.

  • Maik Beninton

Bladecather should be tagged as slammagedom.

    • Spear

I’ll have to hang onto that one.

  • #LinkPicksOvThisToiletTuesday

-Dissector: very good russian melodeath. Recommended:

-Banda de la Muerte: latinamerican rockish merol. Spanish sung with uptempo rhythms. Recommended: https://bandadelamuerte.bandcamp.com/album/8894

    – Regurgitated Life: fast Decapitatedcore for those “special” moments. Recommended: https://regurgitatelife.bandcamp.com/album/the-defiled-face-of-existence

    • Shrimp ov Bad Opinions

Link, do you actually go through the whole list? That sounds tedious. Also, Banda de la Muerte sure has a straightforward name.

      • I pick only three, bro. It’s kind of randomly, just by the name and the genre. I check it and I recommend it or not 🙂

Yeah, check it. It’s stonerish in the bass tone. It’s good, I think.

      • Max

I go through the whole list except for previews, metalcore and most power metal. It usually takes me all week, and sometimes I get a couple of weeks behind, like currently.

        • Big Poppa Penis Pump

I’m going through this slowly but surely, in between catching up on Ministry’s whole catalog sans ‘With Sympathy’.

          • Ha! You can toss Twitch out the window too. Except for “Isle of Man”.

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

I like that one, actually. Classic EBM album.

          • WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT DANCING???

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

That we can dance if we want to, and if we don’t dance, we’re no friends of your’s?

        • Lacertilian

that’s a hefty load. I don’t know how you even attempt to find the time,
I only check out the ones that grab me immediately due to time.
Usually if the band has an appealing name or artwork, although I will sift through all the ones within the genres I usually listen to. This bloody place keeps opening up new genres for me though.

          • Max

Oh, it’s strictly on a has-to-grab-me-within-the-first-few-bars type basis. I know that going “Next! (click)…Nope. Next! (click)….” seems really arbitrary and not giving enough of a chance to let stuff grow on me. Perhaps it is. But you’d be surprised how accurate a barometer it appears to be for whether or not I’d like the rest of the album if I bothered auditioning the whole thing.

I know this because I often have another window opened in the browser where I’m reading news articles; and sometimes I get distracted by what I’m reading to the point where the music has been playing for several minutes without me realizing how bored I was getting with it. So I honestly don’t think I’m missing much in most cases.

The stuff I DO like I’ll usually play through one or two whole songs. It then gets bookmarked into a “favoured music” folder and given a thorough chance later.

That said, wading through 40-50 releases per week is a very daunting workload. I don’t know if I’ll do this in ensuing years; it’s kinda part of a New Years’ Resolution I made to get back into New Music Discovery Mode.

  • nbm02ss

New Shining streaming over at Decibel. Literally just started listening to it, so no clue if good or not:

    http://decibelmagazine.com/blog/2015/4/14/streaming-shining-ix-everyone-everything-everywhere-ends

  • Maik Beninton

We haven’t had a Deathcore tag in along while (I don’t even think I have seen one yet).
This is Deathcore 2.0 (aka: deathcore with djent), pretty cool but nothing special.

    • Lacertilian

      Sequels normally suck

  • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

Speaking of releases you forgot what about the Record Store Day releases that come out this week? I know it’s on Saturday but they have a lot of good stuff for all tastes.

    • That’s a separate post later today. And the vast majority of RSD releases are just reissues.

      • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

Excellent. I’m excited to read it.

    • Spear

As our fearless leader says, it’s almost all reissues, and I don’t touch those. Strictly new music here.

      • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I see. They do have a new “Slayer” single coming out that day but I’m unsure of any other new releases.

    • Sir Tapir the Based

My nips want dat Swans ep!

      • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I want the 40th Anniversary box set of the Parliament album Chocolate City

      • Big Poppa Penis Pump

Swans can do no wrong (even Burning World, which Gira avoids like the plague).

        • Sir Tapir the Based

Man, I hope White Light gets a reissue soon. I want it, but I don’t want to pay hundreds for it. Also, Gira’s pre-Swans reunion stuff is great as well. Angels of Light >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

I think I still have my copy. If I can find it, I’ll toss it over to you.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’ll just send Gira an email every single day about reissuing it.

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

Young God’s shop should probably have it. They’ve reissued almost everything but Burning World. Have to get on ’em quick though, because they’re almost always limited edition.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

They don’t have it. I hope they will make it. It and Love of Life are the only full lengths of theirs I’m missing.

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

Sure you don’t want my copy if I find it?

          • Sir Tapir the Based

No, I don’t need it that bad.

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

            Gotcha. 🙂

          • Big Poppa Penis Pump

Oh, btw, meant to slide this over to ya, since I’ve been listening to alot of neofolk lately.

Modern movie trailers don’t actually tell you how good a film is. Quite the opposite. I thought the new Godzilla and 300: Rise Of An Empire were gonna kick every sort of ass after looking at the trailers. Watching both of them was enough to make me wanna fling my poop at the TV like a methed out autistic monkey, then have my poop vomit all over it. They were that bad.
