Welcome to another Toilet Tuesday, fellow toileteers! This has already been a pretty strong week for new releases, but it appears that the backlog gods have decided to show mercy this week. There isn’t a whole lot of extraordinary new material, but what’s good is really good. Karhu, W, and I have picked our favorites. Now, dive into that list below and feel free to tell us how much we suck for missing one of those hidden gems. Have at it!

Ecate

Ufomammut – Ecate (Neurot Recordings) [Doom]
Stream

Neurot Recordings continues their stellar record with another fantastic doom album. If you aren’t familiar with Ufomammut, get on that, because this band brings an interstellar, otherworldly heaviness to the tried-and-true worship of the riff. The invisible fingerprint of Neurot is definitely on this release, but that never diminishes the quality or ingenuity. So, do as KJM would do, and let Ecate take you on a trip through the stars. FFO: Yob, Electric Wizard, Sleep (W.)

Gurthang

Gurthang – I Will Not Serve (Immortal Frost) [Blackened Death]
Listen to “Nemesis,” “Levant du Serpent Noir”

Gurthang is a new one to me, but I had to check them out because blackened doom metal is often a recipe for deliciousness, and the way to Dubya’s heart is through his ear-stomach. Thankfully, my heartburn did not well up upon ingesting these tracks with my ear-holes, and I remain satisfied. These songs contain enough dynamics to please even the most hardened structuralist. Particles of light battle swarming darkness as dynamics swell and seethe. If you like your doom metal on the villainous side, don’t sleep on I Will Not Serve. FFO: Desolate Shrines, Ill Omen, all the other awesome stuff coming out of Poland

Black Witchery/Revenge – Holocaustic Death March to Humanity’s Doom (Nuclear War Now!) [Black Metal]
Listen

A split between these two bands deliver exactly what you expect: Pure. Fucking. Murder. If the first song on the second split by the two is any indication for the rest we’re in for a blast. It’s primitive and harsh and punishing and everything I wanted it to be really. After two more songs of, I hope, the same unforgiving black/death beating we get the lone Revenge track. “Humanity Noosed/Equimanthorn” is Revenge being themselves for ten minutes, from the chaotic intro to fast as hell blasting.  There are some slower bits too but they don’t much get in the way. You knew what you signed up for, now take it like a man. (Karhu)

Sulphur-Aeon-Gateway-To-The-Antisphere-digipack-CD-with-slipcase_2483

Sulphur Aeon – Gateway to the Antisphere (Van/Imperium Records) [Death Metal]
Listen to “Titans”

There’s not a whole lot I can say about Sulphur Aeon that hasn’t already been said, but they’re definitely good enough to merit repeated mentions. One of my favorite things about this band (besides their absolutely crushing sound and ominous vibe) is that their vocalist actually enunciates. Novel idea, right? I love it when death metal has good lyrics, but it’s even better when you can understand them without having to read along. Anyway, at the risk of being redundant, Gateway to the Antisphere should sate anyone’s desire for mighty riffs. (Spear)

            Firstly on some Biblical shit.

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

I always liked him better as Fistly. But what do I know?

      ayy lmao

  • Edward/Breegrodamus

Oh, that Revenge split, Pure Fucking Murder, that sounds nice.

  • Dr. Dubz

I streamed that Ufomammut yesterday, and it rocketed me into the stratosphere here at my desk. Stoked to hear all of Sulphur Aeon.

    • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

      That Ufomammut was awesome.

    • Scrimm

I’m looking forward to hearing that Sulphur Aeon too. My other guitar player is nuts about them. I was nuts about their first album cover, but couldn’t say the album had as much staying power for me.

    • TrickleDownOvTacoKvltRiff

      YEEEESSSSSSSS!!!! ECAAAATE!!!

    • Óðhinn

      Yes. Ufomammut is fantatsic.

  • Tyree

I heard that Black Witchery/Revenge split. It’s fucking good. The Revenge song is 9 minutes of pure savagery.

    • Was wondering if you had checked that out yet.

      • Tyree

Yup, thanks for sending it my way.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

Oh I see what happened here! Lol

    • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Keen to pick it up. Any news or info on when it’s going to be released and on what format? I just took a peak at NWN!’s shop, but didn’t see anything (I’m also trying to find info using my phone which is a royal pain in the cunt, so I may have missed it).

      • Tyree

Hmm, good question. I only heard it digitally but I’d like to pick up the physical copy my self. I’ll do some digging here.

      • The Beargod

I think the bandcamp had the day. This week if I remember correctly.

  • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

You should have put We Are Harlot as lolbuttz. Though I consider it the updating of hair metal for the current day and the best thing Danny Worsnop ever did I could see you calling it lolbuttz.

    • JJD protip: check out the band Royal Thunder

      • RustyShackleford

        I co-sign this protip. Yep.

      • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

        I will.

  • King Shit of Fuck Mountain
    • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

This album almost makes me love life. It’s that good.

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

I can totally understand that sentiment.

    • “Full Album HD”

…I’m never going to understand what’s fucking HD about music uploaded to YouTube. The background picture??

      • Howard Dean

        • Tyree

          Dissection, covered by Howard Dean.

        • Ashamed that it took me over ten seconds to get that. Need coffee.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m on my second cup of the day.

Thanks again for that Pissgrave hook-up!

          • Hell, yeah. Thanks for the super-rare tape!

…j/k I’m sending it back right away haha.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

My butt hurt for a moment.

          • Wouldn’t be wise to keep it since my return address is merely a four hour away ass-whooping from Edward.

        • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

This is 100% accurate. I actually invented YouTube. (Suck it, Gore!)

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

I’ve always wanted to ask you this: are you related to Jimmy Dean who makes the delicious breakfast food?

          • >DED

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

It was a serious question. I love Jimmy Dean breakfast food and I was wondering if they were related.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

I am, in fact, Jimmy Dean. One of my many nicknames. I actually invented breakfast.

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

That’s awesome. Can you make me some waffles?

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

LEAVE THE HALL SAUSAGE OR NOTHING AT ALL!

GO TO WAFFLE HOUSE OR BETTER YET DENNY’S

            MOONS OVER MY HAMMY

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

My favorite breakfast sandwich is sausage egg and cheese.

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

        Yeah, no shit. No idea.

      • The Beargod

Actually the good quality affects the sound too. HD is still inaccurate.

  • Tyree

That EXHUMATION release is awesome so far.

  • KJM

    ^_^

  • EsusMoose

oh god too many records today, this shall be great

  • Scrimm

That Deadspawn ep is from a good friend of mine. Thanks for adding them.

    • d00d i loved that linked track! do they have the EP for sale somewhere (besides in person)?

      • Scrimm

I’ll ask them. I though they would put it on bandcamp, maybe it will be soon. Thanks for checking them out! The guitarist/vocalist was one of the founding member of my band.

        • interesting! i’ll do mail order too…

          • Scrimm

I’l get back to you. If nothing Else I could get one for you sometime of it came to that.

    • Ferris Mueller

yea that was good. could see me pushing the hell outta my lawnmower while listening to that.

  • Stanley

I’m not sure about that “Adore” though. Not sure whether she’s serious or having a laugh.

  • Edward/Breegrodamus

    Somewhat on topic I suppose:

Death Grips’ The Powers That B is on Spotify, both discs, in its entirety.

    • Dr. Dubz

      GUILLOTINE!

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

        WHY A BITCH GOTTA LIE

        • Dagon

          WHY

    • IT GOATS IT GOATS IT GOATS

I’m enjoying it, but it’s goddamn exhausting to listen to in it’s entirety.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

I just got to the second disc.

I DON’T CARE ABOUT REAL LIFE

        • Guacamole Jim

I think the two albums work really well as a contrast, but I might have to agree. JD is a phenomenal album.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m not in the Death Grips, or an expert at musical marketing, or anything other than a fan really, but it almost seems like it would have better to release them as two separate entities. I’m embarrassed to say I never even listened to Fashion Week but I can correct that today.

          • Guacamole Jim

I think, in practical reality, they basically did. NotM was released quite some time ago now, and what with the “breakup” and subsequent fan-fuckery hijinks it really feels like JD is an entirely separate album. I don’t look much at their lyrics, so I can’t comment on whether or not they’re tied conceptually that way – the only tie in I can see would be from sheer musical contrast.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I really hope the break up was all just a charade, I feel like they are poised to release music on par with any of their best stuff so far, whether you think that’s Exmilitary or The Money Store or No Love Deep Web or just the song “Birds” haha. I also hope they show up on this tour but I suspect they will this time, because cash rules everything I suspect even for Death Grips.

          • Guacamole Jim

I think you’re right about that.. hopping off the NIN tour was probably a decent financial blow for them, and they probably want to make enough back to keep playing.

Also: No Love Deep Web is rapidly climbing the charts to fight with Exmilitary for top DG album for me. Damn that record is good!

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

The Doctor got me to really listen to “Artificial Death In The West” a bunch of times and it’s easily one of their best songs.

          • Guacamole Jim

Agreed. VV. knows his Death Grips. I have jammed that song A LOT.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Once I finish this double album I’m gonna play “Birds”.

FUCK THIS BIRD BITCH DRINK THIS BLEACH

            BIRDS

          • NefariousDude

Nldw >>> all other death grips >>> music

          • Dagon

I actually like Jenny Death over the other albums.

        • IT GOATS IT GOATS IT GOATS

I agree, Jenny Death is more varied and slightly less insane than NOTM. It’s more listenable and enjoyable overall.

        • NefariousDude

          Wtf happens, when shit happens?

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

My reply to you is awaiting moderation now, lol

      • Guacamole Jim

        Your username is top notch.

    • EsusMoose

I really need to give NoTM a good listen, I tried it and wasn’t too keen on it when it was released, maybe in the context of the full album I’ll find something to enjoy

      • Guacamole Jim

“Black Quarterback” is a good gateway, I found.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

I didn’t spend a ton of time with it because last year was so fucking crazy as far as new music (and I made the fool’s errand of trying to keep up with it), but I played it just now and dug it a lot. Music is like that sometimes. Listen to something, feel a certain way (whatever it is), listen to it later, feel a totally different way. Especially highly complex metal albums.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus

MY FAVORITE COLOR IS OH MY GOD BITCH

      • YOU ARE ON FIRE TODAY, ND!

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

They’re mostly just Death Grips lyrics, haha. I’m at home playing this double album.

      • 64 Crayons!

You need to get the 128 Crayons box for that one.

        • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

Don’t you mean the 120 crayons box? I have that because I like to color. I also love cartoons. I’m a very immature 19 year old going on 20.

    • Dagon

      FINALLY

  • Stockhausen

Errthang is uring up my thang, if you knang what I mang.

  • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

With Sulphur Aeon and the Revenge/ Black Witchery split on the menu, it’s a good (Toilet) Tuesday.

Also: I can’t believe Decayed are still releasing records. Those guys are relentless and prolific! They just keep chugging along.

Speaking of chugs, I can rest easy knowing there exists a death metal band called Chugger. Without hearing a note, I’m willing to wager on what they sound like.

      • I got about 15 promo invitations for this album and refused out of principle.

        • Fine work. The song was fucking terrible.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Thanks for the review, I didn’t have to pause the Grips to play it lol

        • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Why not save it for a Whiff or Breakdown?

      • RustyShackleford

chug a lug lug lug chug chug

      • Oh wow, another band using butcher aprons as part of their act. Count sheep and listen to this if you have trouble falling asleep.

  • EsusMoose

I’m surprised to see Acrassicauda to not have a stream of their album up, as far as i know. Nevermind it actually gets released on the 4th instead of today

    • OldMetalHead

They are live streaming the new album April 4th. I haven’t gotten my stuff from the kickstarter yet.

      • EsusMoose

well hopefully it comes out soon, I thought their first ep was pretty good and forgot about them till January when Rise came out

  • RustyShackleford

Irreversible Mechanism for “name your price” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Yep.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus

      For real?

      • RustyShackleford

        https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/infinite-fields

For real homie! They put a little thing at the bottom of their bandcamp saying they just preferred for people to get it straight from them rather it get pirated.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

          Cool, thanks!

        • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair
        • i used to pirate tons of music. when bands started migrating to the bandcamp model, i pretty much stopped. i like supporting the bands, and i don’t mind paying ~$10 for a digital album, but i have no need for CD’s anymore and feel no need to support FYE

          • john

That is essentially my approach as well. If it’s on Bandcamp or sold directly from the band somehow, preferably in a digital format, I’m down with it.

      • The Beargod

Everything by Blood Music is name your price on digital. Always.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

Jack Bauer wrote about it in our post going up, so I had to make a last minute update.

  • Siqq Burnington

    >Plays Abhor
Reminds me of old Immortal but with piano, and then there is a random acoustic guitar at the end. It didn’t hurt.

    • Scrimm

Nice Disqus handle. I didn’t find it to be that terrible either.

  • does anyone know TSV on bandcamp? that guy shows up on all the records that we seem to be jamming… he’d probably love it in here!

    • Stanley

I was thinking that the other day. I though it was the Bear until the other day when I finally got to see a picture of the Bear on FB. Own up – who is TSV?

      • after a bit of stalking investigating, turns out he contributes to another metal blog. he may not be joining us 😉

        • Stanley

Is he an actual contributor or just part of the peanut gallery like us me?

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

          Which metal blog?

Speaking of which, I read a kickass interview with Albert Mudrian yesterday on Steel For Brains.

  • RustyShackleford

Also something I don’t know if many people focus on: I’m a pretty solid Buckethead fan, as I like to jam his stuff while I’m doing my school work and whatnot. He seems to release a fucking album a week and it is insane. Granted they’re usually short and obviously instrumental but DAMN does he ever take a break to piss or eat? Doesn’t seem like it. Impressive.

    • …Yep.

    • Dr. Dubz

I’m convinced that about a decade ago he trained an army of chickens to write music for him and upload it to the internet. The real Buckethead just swims in his pool filled with all that money he surely has made.

      • RustyShackleford

This is the most realistic scenario no doubt lol. Does he even make much money? I guess he had a few bigger albums that keep him doing pretty nicely, but but it’s so hard to find his new albums to actually buy them. Even iTunes is lagging behind his releases. The chicken army is too fast!

        • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

I’m sure that Guns N Roses gig has paid pretty handsomely.

          • RustyShackleford

            This is true.

          • Dr. Dubz

He was only in the band for a short time. Axl didn’t like him bringing a chicken coop into the studio.

          • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

He should have used his infinite tendies as a bargaining chip.

    • This is the only album of his I got into. I really love this album.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puLVZiL4fbY

      • RustyShackleford

Love that album! Electric Tears is also killer if you like his quieter stuff, but has more guitar melodies and whatnot.

        • I will listen to it right now. Thanks for recommendation!

          GL

      • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

I love Bucketheadland and the second one.

    • MoshOff

This song gives me MAJOR chills, beautiful.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adV8-_hgL4g

      • Wow. I have never heard this before. Its is tasty! Thanks man!

      • <3 Soothsayer, Watching Boats with Dad and Nottigham Lace to feel the real feels.

    • KJM

I’m convinced people like him, Tom Waits, Prince, etc, write at least one song a day.

  • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Aaaaaaaaagh, I was thrilled when I saw that a new Despot’s coming out, until I realized I was thinking of a different Despot (the new project from the Algonia guys)..

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpfAzj-f9IE

    • Edward/Breegrodamus

Were you thinking of Despot the rapper? When he finally releases his album I’ll crap on my kitchen table.

      • That fact that you want to “deposit” a load on your kitchen table and that the word “Despot” has such a similar spelling has me intrigued.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

They are almost an anagram GL.

          • At first I assumed they were – but then I did not want to give a rapper named Despot too much credit. Despot could stand for something like “that pothole over there” or “this pot (hole)*

I am going to stop now.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

            des·pot
            ˈdespət’
            noun
            noun: despot; plural noun: despots
            a ruler or other person who holds absolute power, typically one who exercises it in a cruel or oppressive way.synonyms:tyrant, oppressor, dictator, absolute ruler, totalitarian, autocrat;

The absolute opposite of your Supreme Leader!

      • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Nope. Look at the video. It’s nowhere close to his stuff.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

Oh, haha. I just have that dude’s music somewhere in my brain at all times. Put out the album already Despot!

  • Stanley

Calling all bands that use Bandcamp…any ideas what their fee structure is like? If a digital album is on there for $5 how much does the band get to keep. Same question for physical media and merchandise.

    • Scrimm

      Wondering this same thing.

    • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

More than Spotify, for sure. Or more than Jay Z’s new thingy would ever pay them.

      • Stanley

        Can you buy from Spotify?

        • Dr. Dubz

They actually have a merchandise link on a lot of bands’ profiles. i think they often link back to a band/label webstore.

        • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Not sure. I’ve never used it, and have no intention to.

          • Stanley

I’m not going down the Spotify discussion rabbit hole. Good day, sir

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

Good day sir! I SAID GOOD DAY!

      • I’m excited to see Tidal crash and burn. Twice the cost of Spotify for less selection and celebrity endorsement. It’s not like those artists are hurting for money.

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

          Celebricunts.

        • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Yep. The biggest celebrity cash hemorrhage since OWN (Oprah’s network) and ‘Through The Never’.

          • Neil Young’s Pono’s probably going to fail too

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

I hope not. I love Neil Young. Seen him 4 times live.

          • oh JJD, you put a smile on my face several times a day!
neil young is gud, but his MP3 player is dum

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

It’s very expensive. It cost more than my 60 dollar Power Rangers belt buckle. It looks exactly like their morphed and it plays the theme song.

    • RustyShackleford

My buddies in ShitKill (great name, I know lol) said they only take a really small percentage off the top of all sales. Not sure of the exact number and they weren’t using it as a real source of profit but they said they felt satisfied.

Also here they are lol https://shitkill.bandcamp.com/

      • “ShitKill has been spreading pure heavy metal music across New York City since 2009 ”

        lolbuttz

        • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

I’ve heard of them. They don’t come to Poughkeepsie but not many real metal bands do.

          • I think you mean not a lot “pure heavy metal” bands come to Poughkeepsie, lol

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

That is what I meant. We did get Napalm Death and Testament/Exodus this year though.

          • OldMetalHead

Still thinking about driving there for the Testament / Exodus. I’m in Albany.

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

You should. I’ll be there. Where in Albany? Theres a cafe up there which has Surge called Portellis.

          • OldMetalHead

Actually Clifton Park, but most people don’t know Clifton Park. For a small suburb they get some decent stuff. Going to see Revocation this Saturday at a billiards hall.

          • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

Went there to see a band back in 2013 at Upstate Concert Hall.

          • OldMetalHead

I saw Amon Amarth and Sabaton there last year (Skeletonwitch was supposed to be there also). It’s like 5 minutes from my house. Apocalyptica is going to be there in April.

        • Óðhinn

“ShitKill is not at all happy about the current trends in heavy music.”

    • I’d have to check out the fine print again but I believe it’s about 15% – physical and digital.

      • Confirmed.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

That’s not bad at all if you sell a decent amount of music.

          • Stanley

Or even if you don’t. 🙂 Seriously, though as a percentage it makes no difference if you sell a lot or not.

        • RustyShackleford

Did you find that good or bad for The Electric Friends?

          • I think of my band as a part-time hobby so ANY money coming in is a bonus for me. 15% seems incredibly fair, considering the services Bandcamp provides.

          • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

And it’s more than what majors will pay you. I saw a thing on TLC a while back, and they said their label was only paying them 25 cents per CD sold. Toni Braxton also said the exact same thing.

      • Stanley

        Cheers, Joe.

        • The Beargod

Unless it’s froma label sote, in which case label takes additional 30-40% I think.

      • Scrimm

Thanks man was wondering cause I plan on using it for our stuff.

  • NefariousDude

My gaming pc parts arrive in a couple hours 😀

          • NefariousDude

Me too! Awesome I didn’t know there was a group like that! Being a dirty peasant and all.

    • Oh lawdy, that feeling. I just built my first gaming pc a month or two ago.

  • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

Disappointed by the lack of Infinite Fields on the list because it FUCKING SLAYS

  • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Found out about these guys today, and it’s definitely tendie-worthy! Might check and see if I can grab this off of BC later.

    • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

      Sounds promising, #deathcorecanbegood

      • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

Not exactly hearing any deathcore in their sound. *slowly takes the bong away from you*

        • Spear

Thirty seconds in and I’m definitely already hearing some deathcore in their sound. *takes the bong back*

          • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

The chugging guitar in the backgroud is definitely the deathcorest thing i’ve heard in my life, still sounds good though

          • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

            Fair enough!

        • EsusMoose

Had a guy I know share them sometime, couldn’t tell if I heard djent or deathcore but wasn’t too big on them.

  • Mother Shabubu III

Sulphur Aeon…HOLY SHIT and dat artwork, brah! Dat artwork!

    Earth-shaking riffage.

  • That Sulpher Aeon album cover might be one of the most beautiful pieces of art I’ve ever seen. I need a mural of that on my wall.

  • Óðhinn
  • Virgil the Ghost Poet

I am on the fence as to whether or not I want to buy Antagoniste. I love the sludge groove and enjoy the shoegaze parts, but then it gets wierd. I like wierd but something doesn’t sound right to me. Maybe its a grower but I have so much on my want list. Hmmm…
    Fuckin’ auto correct.

  • Lacertilian

so many releases…I have no chance of giving all of these bands a chance. Chance chance chance. Chance.
Looks dumb now doesn’t it. Chance.
    Funny how that happens sometimes.

That Sulphur Aeon cover art still amazes me @disqus_4cmy05mgrZ:disqus

  • Lacertilian

WendingoPsychosis have anything to do with @James_Jimmy_Mcnulty:disqus and Ravenous
