This Toilet Tuesday (2/21/17)

Wow! Look at that; it’s a Toilet Tuesday! And one with an obscene amount of new music at that! Seriously, good lucking sorting through it all, especially if you get caught up on anything that sounds even remotely interesting (as I do). There are a lot of sweet new tunes down there, so help your fellow metal nerd out by checking a couple out and reporting back. Perform your civic duty and help lead us to a better, brighter Toilet.

Resonance Cascade/Järnbörd – Hyperakusi (WOOAAARGH/Downfall/Everydayhate) [Grindcore]

Back in early January we premiered Resonance Cascade’s “Death Approaching” from their split with Järnbörd. You were warned at the time that Hyperakusi would leave you hard of hearing, but you didn’t listen to us, did you? Now look at you, sitting there with your speakers cranked all the way in the ill-fated hope that these sick blasts and ultra-crusty riffs will blow your tinnitus away. Unfortunately for you, the CDC has determined that there is no cure for grind-induced hypersensitivity, so you might as well make the most of it and grind out in style. FFO: Dismember, Rotten Sound, Nasum 2/24/17 (W.)

Ancst – Furnace (Vendetta/Yehonala) [Black Metal/Crust]

It probably goes without saying at this point that I have a permanent hard-on for Ancst. Their style of blackened crust (or crustened black?) is consistent almost to a fault; if you’ve heard their past material, then you know what you’re getting here. However, Furnace mixes it up a little bit with a greater focus on doomy bits than most of the rest of their output. It sacrifices none of the vitriol or raging melodies that have cultivated their sound, so no worries there. It’s awesome regardless, and you should cram it into your earholes immediately. 2/19/17 (Spear)

Bathsheba – Servus (Svart Records) [Doom]

I almost didn’t write about this given my absolute pleb level of knowledge about doom, but I couldn’t let it slip by unnoticed. The riffs are thick and fuzzy and are an all-around good time, but holy hell does that vocal delivery slay. Michelle’s vocals cover soft, soulful cleans to a full on black metal scream and everything in between, and she moves between them with constant ease. I kept looking forward to her entrance during instrumental sections, which is saying something, as the rest of the band are no slouches themselves. Bathsheba are the total package, and you should not miss out on this. – h/t Son Ov Wolf 2/24/17 (Spear)

    Thank you

  • Howard Dean

I have no idea how they made the album art for that Grapeshot album so realistic. Fucking tech wizardry, right there.

    • AndySynn

Oh, god, if I never see another badly photoshopped album cover of a band standing awkwardly in front of a dystopian/post-apocalyptic cityscape it will be too soon.

      • Adema set the Photoshop standard and everyone’s trying to one-up them.

        • Howard Dean

I love that the giant apparently re-purposed an awful 1970’s woolen rug into a stylish, hobo-chic creeper vest.

          • Rain Poncho W.

            It’s Slavic Sinbad.

        • AndySynn

Sweet christmas… why would you do this???

        • tigeraid

This definitely falls into my “so bad it’s good” sweet spot.

        • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

This looks like it was made in the basement of some former Soviet-bloc country but no… I looked it up and the band is from California…

          • CyberneticOrganism

Maybe that explains the giant’s disgusting farmer’s tan

        • What is even happening?

      • tigeraid

But he has a BAT! To use against the black ‘copters!

        • CyberneticOrganism

          So tuff!

    • Brutalist_Receptacle

      ::kills self::

    • CyberneticOrganism

More like Grape Nuts, am I right?! High five.

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Eh, not much this wee- POWER TRIP!!

    • Got my record and t-shirt in the mail last night

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

That’s killer man! I convinced Vladimir Poutine to give them a listen and he preordered after one song, hahaha! Part of my argument was that you were going to have a difficult time deciding your album of the year between them and Iron Reagan 😉

        • Dumpster Lung

I’m so damn excited for Iron Reagan. They’re playing tomorrow night on my birthday at what is probably my favorite legit venue in town!

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            Dude! That’s gonna rule!

          • Dumpster Lung

Yes it will! The venue is The End, which has a capacity of somewhere over 100 but less than 200, so hopefully there will be a good size crowd and it’ll get nuts.

You never know, though. There were like maybe 30 people for Blood Incantation back in the fall 🙁

          • it sucks that few people showed up for Blood Incantation, but that sounds like one cool and intimate show!

          • Dumpster Lung

I think it might have been more under better circumstances, but the Cavalera brothers were doing the first Return to Roots tour at the time, and that show was literally (actually literally, not figuratively) at the larger venue across the street 😛

          • DL, you did not choose poorly that evening

          • Dumpster Lung

I was originally going to try hop back and forth between both, but I thought it wasn’t really worth spending double the money to see one show’s worth of bands in total (because at least one of the openers for the Cavalera Bros was definitely lame).

            Definitely happy with my decision.

      • Dumpster Lung

Nice! I got an email yesterday, so I’m assuming mine will be here within the next day or two as well. Also got a couple Discogs purchases on the way that I’m pumped about.

    • KyleJMcBride

You might like Bathsheba. It’s decent thus far.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

        Noted and checking!

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Holy smokes! Spear is completely spot on about their vocalist!

        • KyleJMcBride

If you like later Wounded Kings, Albino Python, or even Witch Mountain, you’re likely to dig it. At least that’s what I’m getting from it.

Dis gon’ be a good week, bruhs.

  • Hans Moleman

This came out on Saturday and sounds fun so far.

    • Rain Poncho W.

      He looks like a nurgling.

    • Howard Dean

I saw this on the Slamming Brutal Death Metal facebook page yesterday. Haven’t checked it out yet, but looks pretty gnarly.

      • Rain Poncho W.

You have any suggestions for slam this year? I’ve checked out a lot that have popped up in Toilet Tuesday, but few have really done it for me.

        • Howard Dean

Nah, no recs for new slam stuff yet. I’ve been fairly hands off with 2017 albums thus far, and can basically count on one hand the number of new albums I’ve bought this year (in all subgenres). Kind of a combination of burnout (needing to constantly look for/listen to new stuff) and disinterest (which feels really weird, to be honest). I’m sure I’ll dig in at some point in the year.

  • Maik Beninton™

    lol Pyogenesis.
    “people die of common sense”
I like their guitar tone and that’s it, the rest sound like butt rock.

  • This Resonance Cascade/Järnbörd split is dope. WOOAAARGH to the rescue.

  • Maik Beninton™

    OMG, Trollfest.
    What am I seeing?
And Sanctuary is fine, sound like Mercyful Fate, but I got a good laugh when he sings ‘drill you slowly’.

    • Dumpster Lung

This is the real good stuff from Sanctuary. Used to set the first vocal part as an alarm for those times I really couldn’t afford to sleep in haha.

  • tigeraid

“In Thousand Lakes – Age of Decay (Xtreem Music) [Minnesotacore]”

(Also would have accepted Ontariocore. Americentrists!)

    • KyleJMcBride

      • tigeraid

(Actually I guess Muskox already cornered that.)

  • CyberneticOrganism

    ANCST >>>>>>>>>

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Coffinshade is surprisingly good in a trees ‘n shit sort of way as long as you don’t mind DSBM style vocals. That Grima though >>>

  • TrundleTheGreat

  • Rick Chard

Recommend the Caffa album and IMMOLATION!!!

  • Hans Moleman

Hetroertzen sounds pretty interesting. Full song for the lazy:

  • Waynecro

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      POWER TRIP!!!

  • NDG

New Power Trip is slaying me…and that Age Of Reflection…oh yeaaaahhhhhh! That’s some smooth hard rockin’ tunes right there.

  • NDG

Thanks for the heads up on Bathsheba. I’m digging it.

I also like the diversity of the Svart roster.

    Do these guys party?

    • NDG

I think the guy with the sax loves the nangs.
