This Toilet Tuesday (12/20/16)

Winter is very nearly upon us, and I’m about ready to die. Christmas is right around the corner, and the thought of having to spend time with other humans is not terribly appealing. More worthless political bickering, more questioning of why I don’t plan on having kids while I’m surrounded by screaming children, more passive-aggressive crap flung between family members… Just let it end. Fortunately, we’ve been provided with an excellent soundtrack for all this nonsense this week, and W. and Stockhausen have picked out a couple of the best. Check those out and come wallow with me.

crypt-of-silence

Crypt of Silence – Awareness Ephemera (Solitude Productions) [Death/Doom]
Stream

Crypt of Silence certainly isn’t reinventing the funeral doom wheel with Awareness Ephemera, but if you like your metal slow, sad, and heavier than a baleen whale bloated from eating far too much chili, this band is perfect for you. Guttural growls and alterations in the drum patterns keep these moving along, but perhaps the most appealing element of the band’s sound is the reverent, majestic guitar riff reminiscent of classic Peaceville. Grab your cloak and join the procession. FFO: Lycus, My Dying Bride, Morgion 12/19/16 (W.)

seven-chains

Seven Chains – Seven Chains (Independent) [Experimental Death/Doom]
Stream

On their debut album, Seven Chains shows us that delivering a fresh perspective in a tried-and-true genre doesn’t require the reinvention of the wheel or advanced calculus. The three-piece from Idaho never strays from the realm of death/doom, but they consistently stay engaging with a thoughtful approach to everything they do. The band clearly has a knack for finding very non-obvious yet extremely logical solutions to the problems posed by common doom tropes. A slow moving chord sequence is about to overstay its welcome? Alright, throw in some gross notes, change up the vocals, and start blasting. We’ve alternated trudging and blasting a few times in a row now? Cool, let’s find a simple yet compelling rhythmic idea, experiment with sustain in the guitars, and get weird. It needs even more variety? Great, throw in some non-traditional instruments like cello, upright bass, and Ævangelist’s Ascaris on sax. This album is a swirling, experimental sea of horror from top to bottom, and it had me hanging on to every twist and turn while saying “why didn’t I think of that?” 12/19/16 (Stockhausen)

    • Jack Rabbit

Never listened to Krallice before, but this is jammin. Thanks for the link

    • Howard Dean

I just clicked that link and peeped the first “review”/testimonial. It started like this:

“The masters of prismatic, post-impressionist black metal return.”

I hate when people say shit like that. What the fuck is that supposed to mean? People love talking out of their asses. Fuck.

      • CT-12

        “Please hire me Pitchfork”

      • Óðinn

Yes. It’s made up. Post-Impressionism was an art movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh, Seurat, etc.).

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

If anyone is interested in some killer Dungeon Synth, Verminaard just released their debut full length today

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Haven’t jammed yet, but I count second 😉

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

First release was an EP 😛

        • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

          Eh, I guess so.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

There is no “guess so” it is an EP!!

          • Jack Rabbit
          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Eh, A lot of people say The Armor of Ire is an EP too, so…

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Ask Verminaard, it is an EP!

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Yeah, and ask Eternal Champion and they’ll say it’s an LP.
It don’t matter though, I’m just yanking yer crank.

          • Señor Jefe El Rosa

            Yanking my crank?!?!

Let me know what you think of Verminaard whem you get the chance

    • Perhaps this should be my first foray into dungeon synth. Rocking my usual dark ambient at the moment since I can listen to that while mastering.

      • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Oooooooooh, let me know if you do and what you think!

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

This Echelon will please lots of ears I do think

      blasphemographer is awesome

      • ≠ Voidscape Tyree ≠

Rumor on the street is that there will be a Sadomator/Blasphemophagher split for 2017. Would be so rad if Blasphemophagher got back together.

        • Abradolf Lincler

im catchin up on all the Heidans Hart releases i missed today

          • ≠ Voidscape Tyree ≠

Enjoy! I should have my Dark Fury vinyl waiting for me at home today. I have to spin at least one of them before I have to fly out of PA for vacation.

    • Howard Dean

I thought the exact same thing. Went from chubby to half-mast pretty quick once I slowed down and actually read it.

The III Command of Absolute Chaos is fucking awesome. One of my favorite war metal albums ever. Byah!

    • Óðinn
  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

    Discount UDO? Okay, I’ll bite.

The Speed Legion split is damn good, fans of Speed Metal need to listen.

  • AeonsOvChaos

Thank you for the news and I have something to share too, I must admit that I was easily captured by the swedish Black Metal force in “Murg” with their last offering “Gudatall” in these days. It’s a raging and obscure album, tinged with that 90’s style in the songwriting. The production is good but not too clean and perfect and this fact makes the album more appealing, far from being a comfortable listening you can discover what means making cold atmospheres without losing ferocity for all of Its length, here: https://murg.bandcamp.com/album/gudatall

  • KyleJMcBride

The only thing I really like about this time of year is having no family besides Mom that I give a shit about.

    • ≠ Voidscape Tyree ≠

I hear you. I’ll just be hanging out with the one person I care about the most, my Dad. Looking forward to not celebrating Christmas with him and just doing some fishing and catching up. No gifts, no tree, no bullshit. Just a good time.

      • Abradolf Lincler

yall dont even be praising satan on chrimbus?

      • KyleJMcBride

I have to exercise a lot of patience cos Mom loves Christmas.

    • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I celebrate Christmas with my parents and my sister.

    • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

I love Christmas because I get paid time and a half

      • KyleJMcBride

Good way to look at it.

        • Abradolf Lincler

i also get a paid day off

          • Ayreonaut

Me too. And it’s Sunday so I never would of worked it anyways. Double win

      • Óðinn

        Not because of Jesus?

        ….Haha! Just kidding.

        • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Jesus wasn’t born in December. That was the Christians trying to steal the winter solstice pagan holiday

    Sad face is sad.
Also, ‘Digital Order Just Include 2 songs, For Full Album Please Order Physical Release.’, well fuck you then.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      Which album is this?

      • Maik Beninton™

        Dysfori.
That label do that with every release, and that will keep me from buying any of their albums, physical is just too expensive with shipping and such.

    • RJA

7 euros for 2 songs! impressive the balls on some people.

      • Maik Beninton™

Calling a rip off is an understatement.

    • A Danish Prophet named Lars tried to stop the digital music revolution years ago, and look what good that did.
      Get with the times, bands.

      • Maik Beninton™

        That’s the fucking label’s fault.

        • Oops, in my rage, I misdirected my rage 😉

Love the balls on that thrash band, still calling themselves Revenge

  • Howard Dean

Also: It doesn’t “officially” get released until February, but I got my preordered copy of the White Death debut full length on CD yesterday. Fucking magic. Sounds like a top 10 black metal album so far (in either/both years).

    • Abradolf Lincler

preordered the LP last month or so its going to be a top 10 for sure, unless the rest of the album is just a dud lol

      • Howard Dean

No dude, it’s really solid. Builds well off of the EP. Great Finnish BM melodies. Vocals are insane. Really been digging the tracks “Immortal Hunter of the Moon,” “Cunt,” “Goat Emperor,” and “White Death’s Power.” Good shit.

        • Abradolf Lincler

waiting til my phys copy gets in i think

    • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

You think that’s good? I’m going to be interviewing Tony Martin and the guitarist from the classic lineup of Motograter for my blog. It’s going to be great publicity for my blog.

      • Howard Dean

        JJD be hustling.

P.S. Didn’t realize you had your own blog, playa.

P.P.S. Didn’t realize Motograter had a “classic” lineup.

        • Kevin Nash’s Jackknife

I’m talking about the lineup on their first album. That’s as close to a classic lineup as they have.

  • Waynecro

That incredibly salty melodeath ain’t bad, and I dig Kill the Stigmatic. Veiled in Scarlet is pretty sweet too. They sound a lot like Serpent–a really killer melodic-death-metal band from Japan. Thanks, dudes!
