This Toilet Tuesday (12/1/15)

Welcome to another round of new releases on This Toilet Tuesday! With winter nearly upon us, the metal has grown noticeably icier, with frosty black metal being the dominating force on this week’s roundup. That’s not to say that there’s nothing else to enjoy; there’s plenty of doom, power metal, and even a couple folk metal bands thrown in there this time. With this much variety, there’s no excuse for not finding something you don’t like. Get at it!

ara kra

Ära Krâ – Ära Krâ (Through Love Records) [Black Metal]
Listen to “Strang & Schwert”

“Strang and Schwert” opens with a tremolo storm that kicks you right in the Adam’s apple and continues to stomp on your throat for another two and a half minutes. The band makes great use of dynamics, ramping the violence back to allow a gentle piano interlude to lull you into submission before beating you about the head and neck again. Of all the bands blending black metal with hardcore, Ära Krâ are easily one of the most violent. FFO: Deluge, So Hideous, Converge 12/4/15 (W.)

Enthrallment – Eugenic Wombs (Rebirth The Metal Productions) [Brutal Death Metal]

Come on and slam, and welcome to the jam. Come on and slam, and welcome to the jam. There isn’t a lot to go off in this clip, but what is there is enticing. Enthrallment surely know how to bring the slams while still maintaining some technicality and innovation. I look forward to being brutalized by this album. FFO: Dying Fetus, Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation 12/4/15 (W.)

Sunn O))) – Kannon (Southern Lord Records) [Drone]

Sunn O))) returns proper, at last, with only their trademark drone/doom on a proper solo effort. However, this three-song reflection of the group’s live show and/or sound does feature collaborators. Long term guitarist Oren Ambarchi and Attila Csihar throat-singing for one. If you’ve dug the band’s older albums you won’t find yourself disappointed, although it’s not a carbon-copy of their past. If you’re not familiar with them, or only with their collaborative albums, now’s high time to grab a Kannon and get some. 12/4/15 (Karhu)

Elvenking – The Night of Nights – Live (live album- AFM Records) [Folk/Power Metal]
Listen to “Pagan Revolution”

For fans of the exquisite recipe that Elvenking make with the ferocious blend of melodic metal and multi-colored celtic folk trickstery, I have good news: the Italian magical forest-dwellers are releasing a live album with a DVD companion with 25 songs, revisiting the band’s entire career. Their 2014 record, The Pagan Manifesto, became my favorite of their catalogue, and I have no doubt that this release will be a worthy addition to the Elvenking library. From what the “Pagan Revolution” video shows, The Night of Nights has a slick production in which every band member shines with his own light, and the incredible and energetic performance of Damnágoras will be the leading bard on that show. I’m interested, indeed! Bring it on, my fellow Elven brethren! 12/4/15 (Link)

cloak of altering

Cloak of Altering – Manifestation (Crucial Blast) [Avant-garde Black Metal]
Listen to “Parasitic Altering Sickness”

Plague Beasts, the 2014 full-length from Cloak of Altering, was solidly on my year-end list last December. Mories isn’t messing around with his turnaround time, and I’ve got high hopes for Manifestation, the brand-new album under the Cloak of Altering name. The two tracks that have been released are full of Mories’ trademark wizardry; twisted synthscapes storm over a post-industrial foundation while he shrieks painfully in the background. It may not be breaking new ground from his other recent output (Gnaw Their Tongues, Pyriphlegethon, Caput Mortuum, Aderlating), but it will no doubt be fascinating. 12/4/15 (Stockhausen)

in malices wake

In Malice’s Wake – Light upon the Wicked (Punishment 18 Records) [Thrash]
Listen to “In Darkness”

I must be angry or something, because thrash has really been doing it for me lately. The harder and faster, the better, and In Malice’s Wake bring both. “In Darkness” is immensely aggressive, opening with rapid-fire pedaling guitars and machine gun drums. It’s an intense ride that doesn’t let up until the bloody finale. Fans of Nylithia and Revocation take note. 11/30/15 (Spear)

Martriden – Cold and The Silence (Independent) [Progressive Metal]

Martriden won Best Unsigned Band in Montana for their slick blend of black and death metal, but Cold and The Silence sees them exploring their more progressive side. Gone are the raging blasts and blackened riffs of yesteryear, eschewed in favor of winding melodies and a surprising amount of clean vocals. The result is a pleasing mixture of the earthly and the celestial; they aren’t afraid to experiment, but they don’t get so far up in the clouds that they lose focus on writing good songs. 11/30/15 (Spear)

Ангел-Хранитель – Тайная глава (Metalism) [Heavy Metal]

Aldious – Radiant A (Village Again Association) [Power Metal]

AngelSeed – Crimson Dyed Abyss (Sliptrick Records) [Power Metal]

Atrabilis/Negativa – MMXV (split- Independent) [Black Metal]

  • New SUNNO))) and Cloak of Altering?

Sounds like I have new music to send to people who “like everything”.

    • Guacamole Jim is a ILTE snob. Spam his inbox with whatever you want and he will always disagree because he’s pretentious and want to claim superiority on online musical discussions.

  • Guacamole Jim

Ära Krâ is rocking my socks. The new Martriden is sounding really good so far as well. Good week, brololololololos.

  • This Sublime Eyes is OK. I know some people can dig this sound, so this is FFO: Slaughter of the Soul, Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, Dew-Scented, late The Crown and that kind of modern metalcore-ish melodic death.

  • Stanley

Two more goats for the festival.

    • Dubs

      We almost have a herd.

    • ┼yree

Check out that Demonic Slaughter album. Some cold atmospheric black metal from Poland.

      • ┼yree

Also has a member from Abusiveness which I know W. really likes.

        • Dubs

          Now you have my attention.

          • ┼yree

Got through 4 songs and realized that these are just brief samples. Grrrr.

      • Stanley

I haven’t had time to listen to anything for the last week. I’ve been to going from doctors appointment to doctors appointment with the Mother-in-law. I may get to drive home tomorrow but we’ll see. I’ll put this on the list to listen to later. Or maybe in the waiting room. I hear sick patients love atmospheric BM from Poland.

        • ┼yree

Sorry to hear man, no worries dude! Just recommending shit and shit.

        • Dubs

Hope things go okay with the MIL.

          • Stanley

            Nope, but thank you.

          • Dubs

  • ┼yree

New Demonic Slaughter, fuck yes! Goatblood/Nihil Domination split has my attention. That Goatblood album from this year was some grindy bestial greatness. Total Death as usual!

  • ┼yree

Secrets Of The Moon I just can’t get into. They are playing MDF next year and I think I’ll have to just skip them.

    • I think I’m skipping rams head entirely. I haven’t had a single year that I’ve had a great time in there I fri/sat/sun

      • ┼yree

Huh, I really like it in there. Plus there are a lot of bands I want to see at Rams next year.×591.jpg

        • RJA

dude, Sunday at Ram’s Head look sick.

          • ┼yree

Yeah!!! I’ll be there for all four bands for sure. Craft, Angelcorpse (Not listed), and Grave Miasma will be sick too.

        • Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see pretty much every single one of the bands there every night. But even when Asphyx was playing in 2014, I was absolutely miserable and only stayed because I love Asphyx. My roommate and I are planning to just go do our own thing after Edison Lot. If you see two dudes by the harbor smoking cigars, say hi

          • ┼yree

Killer. I may be up for a cigar. I plan on not drinking a whole lot next year so I may indulge in some tobacco.

          • It’s too expensive to get drunk there unless you do it in the room, and then you have to get shitty before you even show up, or skip a band to walk back to the hotel room to drink. SO INCONVENIENT.

I’ll be sure to have at least one for you

          • ┼yree

I was so hungover last year that I hardly even enjoyed the experience. I’m going to try and stay healthy for this one. I may smoke more weed though 😉

          • Unless Hail of Bullets finds a singer and still plays, I’m pretty much there for Sunday, so I may drink heavily Thurs/Friday, then rest on Sat so I can sing along with Satan

Edit: Rest means just hang out at edison lot all day and don’t go crazy

          • ┼yree

Good call, rest is key even if you are not drinking heavily. That fest is a fucking endurance test!

          • That’s the goal this year with no Ram’s Head!

        • Dubs

It seems like there’s a different stage I’d be at every day if I went.

          • ┼yree

I know, it sucks having to run all over the place. Soundstage is always the brutal death/grind/crust bands. Rams is always the doom and black metal bands. Edison is usally all the more popular bands.

          • Dubs

Ram’s on Sunday has Phobocosm and Mitochondrion. Definitely bringing that skronk.

          • ┼yree

True! Svartidaui is pretty skronk too.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

That’s the way Milwaukee Metalfest was. Pain in the dick.

          • ┼yree

Yup, and the venues are usually a 10 or 15 minute walk from each other.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Fuck, at least the Milwaukee Metalfest was all in the same building.

          • ┼yree

That’s good a least, but yeah I know what you mean. Hells was nice since it was one stage.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Agreed. So it goes.

          • more beer

Their California fest was only one stage. It made things really easy.

        • KJM, Shake Zula

Ram’s Head on May 26th FTW.

          • ┼yree

            So much doom and sludge.

          • KJM, Shake Zula

I just hope Dopethrone makes it to Boston at some point.

          • RJA

Yea, that day hits a lot of sweet spots for you huh?

          • KJM, Shake Zula

            Oh yeah.

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I think I dug their latest, but these new songs spoke not to me.

  • King Shit of Fuck Mountain
    • ┼yree

Got that shit in the mailz!!! Shit is fucking tight!

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

        Nice dude! Vinyl or CD?

        • ┼yree

CD, I don’t think there is vinyl yet?

Angry metal guy hated that album, but then again he praised the new Myrkur album.

          • RJA

How angry can he really be if he doesn’t like angry music?

          • ┼yree
          • Dubs

There are a bunch of reviewers at that site.

          • ┼yree

I know. They just all seem to hate the shit I like 😉

          • Dubs

Oh, I don’t agree with the Myrkur review, just saying it’s more than one angry guy.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Well fuck that says it all.

          • sweetooth0

They also gave Typhonian Wormholes: Indecipherable Anti-Structural Formulæ a 0, so there’s that.

  • Dagon

Lots of featured albums today. I like to look at the covers.

Ära Krâ sounds like an ancient native somewhere language.

  • I saw blind Guardian Friday.

They are officially the greatest band in the universe.

    • MoshOff

Never Heard of Blind Guardian Friday, but now I’m curious.

      Blind Guardian are alright though.

    • tertius_decimus

      You saw them? Mean culprit!

      • They played this for the first time ever for us

        • Oohh, so you were in that show…

That’s excellent. Boss the Ross was on the previous show. He got the set list sheet and an incredible shirt.

          • I got the hoodie, none of the t-shirt designs struck me because they use that awful artist’s work

          • Which artist? The Colombian one? His last cover is good to me.

          • He is cancer

          • Wow!

          • It’s not that he’s a bad artist, it’s that the overwhelming majority of his art is ultra samey one/two color contrasting with random elements in the center, and everyone is using him now, which over saturates his art even more.

          • Boss the “Crimson King” Ross

I picked up this shirt, a different artist then the album covers. And was able to score a setlist.

          • I forgot about this shirt, they were out of Mediums though 🙁

I got the hoodie though, so I mean

          • Boss the “Crimson King” Ross

Damn, thats a good set. Did you continue Last Candle for 5 minutes?

They played Barbara Ann on the 28th, that wouldve been so cool to see.

I would’ve liked to attend the Arizona show, they played Time Stands Still and Lost in the Twilight Hall, two of my favorites.

          • I love that they switched it up so much. All of us got something special. For me, “And Then There was Silence” was one of those songs that dominated my imagination for months on end, and that was really special for me to see it live

            Also SOMEBODY’S OUT THERE

          • Boss the “Crimson King” Ross

It was definitely an excellent experience. I’m glad you were able to attend.

        • Spear

I missed them when they came to Minneapolis. Now I have to kill someone for their progpower tickets.

          • Dude, people resell PPUSA tickets like crazy, you won’t have any trouble finding them

        • I bet all six of you were excited, yeah?

I cant believe youve never seen em before, two rivers.

      • Every warrior has a gash on his sword

        • 100% PURE BLACKBEARD

Its been a couple years since theyve been up the mountain. Simply incredible.

          • I wasn’t aware of them last time they were stateside, so this was my first legitimate chance to see them

    • Sir Tapir The Based

      • ┼yree

        You are right, it’s Dissection.

        • Dissection has 2 great albums.

          Blind Guardian has 5.

          • ┼yree

I’m just fucking with him since he does not like Dissection.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

And he still has not said what albums/bands are better than Dissection.

          • ┼yree

            What a pussy.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

And honestly I want to know. I’m sadly intrigued…

          • ┼yree

Same. The silent game is getting old but the north still remembers.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

            Those who never was born
            but whose darkness eternally devastated
the goodness built up through milleniums
No time passed, our victory is eternal
            Our scorn, our silence

          • ┼yree

            Well done sir.

          • ┼yree
          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

You make a mighty fine point. Good man.

          • ┼yree

Do you have any Dissection on vinyl?

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Yes! The Somberlain and Storm of the Light’s Bane. The last sanctioned reissues while Jon was alive, released through his Black Horizon label in conjunction with The End Records. They came out in 2006 and I snapped them up right away!

          • ┼yree

Damn!!! That’s shit is hard to find now. I’ve looked, and it’s not cheap.

          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Yeah, I randomly checked Discogs and was amazed at how much they are now.

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Speaking of fine points…………….. what happened to his posts?!?

          • Maik Beninton™

So… Tyree deleted his account again.

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

          • Sir Tapir The Based

I don’t see a point in doing so. I’m gonna say what band I think are better, you say they’re shit, I say bands you like are shit and the world will keep rolling in its shitty way and we have gained naught but shit.

          • i would have said Periphery for maximum jimmy rustlage.

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts
          • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Blah, blah, blah. Calm down. I asked a while ago and you still won’t tell me. Whatever.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Coil’s Musick to play in the dark vol.2, obvs.

          • I may be willing to agree that Dissection is the greatest black metal band? They gotta fight Windir for me though

    • Boss the “Crimson King” Ross

      Yes they are.

    • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts
  • Stockhausen

New Ur Draugr was last week (I know it got mentioned on the FB page also). This album rules.

    • Spear

I’m still putting them down for next week. They can’t just go changing release dates on me.

      • Stockhausen

Oh dang, I was just going off the Bandcamp release day (when it was put up for streaming). I didn’t pay attention to the actual release day.

    • currently jamming these tunes, hard. that artwork is some of the best of the year too

    Also, those lolbuttz promo pics:–WXuISxE&feature=share

That dream theater is pretty decent

  • Wow! Now, this is a reissue. Good memories listening this band:

    • KJM, Shake Zula

      Is that Floor WhatsHerFace?

      • It’s Floor Jansen. This was her first band. She’s now singing with Nightwish and have plenty of guest spots too. I like her style.

        • KJM, Shake Zula

I don’t like Symphonic Metal, but I’ll be her Cabana boy anyday.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

She’s twice as tall as I am. Intimidating. And a turn on.

          • KJM, Shake Zula

Heck, I’m Gimli/Tyrion Lannister size and I’m into it.

      • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Back when she was actually female, and before her transition into Dr. Frankenfurter.

        • KJM, Shake Zula

Eh, I think she still looks good.

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

            She’s a man’s man to me!

  • Spear

I waited almost seven years for Sunless Rise album. Did not disappoint. FFO: cheesy melodeath

  • tertius_decimus

    I like Sunless Rise alot.

    *nods enthusiastically*

    • tertius_decimus

Funny how Sanzu link leads us to the site which name we all don’t wanna even pronounce.

Sometimes there are things in life which we all hate but in the end we must live with….

Also, I love the underscore in your name. I love using underscores.

        • tertius_decimus

I don’t like underscores but have one. I’m two-faced hyporcite.

          • That’s the spirit!

          • tertius_decimus

            Dualities, contradictions.

      • it’s where we all met! so it has a special place in my heart

        • You sentimental fool!

          Y&T FTW!

          • tertius_decimus

            Nice track.

          • Janitor Jim Duggan

They’re coming to my area with Doro. I’m going.

          • I am thoroughly jealous. They are going to Cleveland, but with the baby coming a month earlier, there is no way I am going to drive 3 hours to see them. /bummed

          • Janitor Jim Duggan

I’ve seen them before. They’re so good live

          • Haven’t seen them yet. totally jealous

        • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Actually, no. I learned about this place from MI. I spent one day on Failure For Blogs before I jumped ship (and wanting to sink it with all their members on board).

          • welcome to the toilet!

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Why, thank you, even though it’s me, your Supremester Leader!

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Kalmankantaja / Hermóðr split is good stuff. It’s been on the “Atmospheric Black Metal Albums” YouTube channel for about a month or so.

    • It has been awhile Pagliacci!

      • Pagliacci is Kvlt

Blame Big Brother for crushing Disqus at work. I took a few days off to deer hunt this week, but I’m not a big fan of rain and shit, so here I am.

        • oooOOOoo you hunt as well?

        • Where about do you live? It is gun week here. The whole god damn county is out in full force. I planned on hunting mornings this week. It was pouring this morning though. Tonight it is on!

          • “Gun week”.

          • Dubs

Every day is gun week in Venezuela.

          • You’re such a fine doctorr.

          • It is a lot of fun.

          • How much the hunting seasons affect the wild life in your State, GL?

Or it is tightly planned to reduce the impact?

          • It is all very regulated, regarding the numbers you can take. It is not so regulated that it is not fun, though. You just have to follow the numbers you can take, time of year, etc. Especially with the deer. It is something like a 2 billion dollar industry in Ohio. So the state makes sure that the population remains healthy from year to year…

          • I not see myself hunting animals, but I think it is cool that you can work towards a more conscientious way of practice. Good job, ‘muricans.

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt

NE PA. Rifle season here too.

          • Nice! We can only us shotguns (w/ rifled barrels).

I follow this group of guys from central PA. I enjoy watching their video. There are a hoot.

            Good luck to you!

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt

I have a Hastings rifled barrel for my BPS and that’s usually my gun of choice for deer. The Gamelands I hunt are so thick and scrubby that there’s few opportunities for distance shots anyway. A 1oz slug usually eliminates the need to follow a blood trail, which is nice.

          • Is it this barrel? I have a BPS too but couldn’t justify a ~400 barrel just for 1 week a year. I bought a Mossburg 500 for half of that and it came with a slug barrel. Friggin love the BPS though. It shoot well?

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt

That’s it, except mine doesn’t have the muzzle brake. I bought mine probably 15 years ago through Sportsman’s Guide and I’m pretty sure I paid less than half that price. It shoots great. I use 2 3/4″ shells and I’d say it’s pretty accurate out to 100 yards easily.

          • hmmmmmmmm. Jealous! 100 yards is long. What do you shoot? I have had decent luck with the Hornady SST’s. Expensive, but accurate at 100y.

          • Pagliacci is Kvlt

I’m about to run out of Winchester Supreme High Impacts that I’ve had for years. When they go, I have a box of Lightfield Hybrid EXPs I’m going to try out.

          • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Every week is gun week, because, ‘Murica dagnabbit!

    • RJA

This is good. Thanks for pointing it out.

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Kalmankantaja’s side on the other split is just as good.

I guess that new Elvenking is somethin to be excited about but not a whole lot to get the beard wagging this week

  • ┼yree
  • Boss the “Crimson King” Ross

    Pure Steel Records. I’m sold.

  • Old Man Doom

I’m diggin’ this Martriden pretty heavily. Thanks, Spear.

  • Un is pretty fantastic. Thanks NuDjent. Now can we change the numerical value of the digit 4 so that tomorrow is the 4th instead of Fffffing Friday so that I might purchase it on Bandcamp? Huh?

    • considering that they’re sludge, if you listen to it continually, the tempo of the music will match how slowly time is moving; which will modify the b-wave patterns in your brain, causing you to forget about time altogether, and Friday will be here in a moment!

  • Waynecro

I’m digging Martriden, and there’s a few sweet melodeath jams this week as well.

  • Abe Vigoda’s Ghost Farts

Definitely checking out that Hermóðr/Is split! Absolutely loved Is’ demo, and been listening to a lot of Hermodr lately.

  • tigeraid

In Malice’s Wake, where have you been all my life!

  • Hans Müller

Natsvarth – Swedish one-man black metal band.
