Greetings, and welcome to another This Toilet Tuesday! You know the drill: new music happens and will continue happening until we’re all dead, and it’s our job to tell you what doesn’t suck. Fortunately for you, the best writers on the Toilet (read: a handful of people who volunteered once and are now stuck working for me for life) are wholeheartedly up to this sisyphean task. Enjoy the fruits of our labor below.

ulver

Ulver – ATGCLVLSSCAP (House of Mythology) [Electronic/Ambient]
Preview

Like life in its core, Ulver is a force of change and perpetual movement. Messe I.X-VI.X was probably the darkest and most dense album of the Christopher Rygg creative society, and their new record, cryptically titled under the 12 Zodiac signs, will move a little from the chamber ethos of Messe to the electrified waters of krautrock inspiration and the imaginative sinewy waves derived from psychedelic rock layers. If Ulver succeeded once again to write a new compelling artistic concept is up to you to judge. For me, I am very satisfied that Ulver continues to evolve through the ages. 1/22/16 (Lonk from Pennsylvania)

show me wolves

Show Me Wolves – The World They Took Over (False Beings Productions) [Progressive Black Metal]
Stream

I’ll typically check out anything tagged as progressive black metal, and The World They Took Over by Show Me Wolves is certainly defiant of black metal norms. Across these eight tracks, you’ll find major-key licks, hardcore-inspired two-step rhythms, tremolo whirlwinds, call-and-response lead lines, and a number of other interesting elements. All combined, these components create a final product that’s certainly ambitious, but I’ll need a few more listes before being convinced all these gears are working in unison.  FFO: The Lion’s Daughter, Vestiges, Deluge 1/18/16 (W.)

ehnahre

Ehnahre – Douve (Kathexis) [Death/Doom]
Preview

Douve was one of my most-anticipated albums of 2015, but then the months passed away without this monstrosity ever surfacing. Thankfully, Ehnahre have finally made good on their threat to upend all expectations; based on the few tracks this band have already released, Douve is poised to be one of the most challenging, interesting, and perhaps even breathtaking works of art released all year. If you enjoy avant-garde experimentation and want to broaden your musical horizons, do not skip this. FFO: Imperial Triumphant, Hadean, Chaos Echoes 1/22/16 (W.)

megadeth

Megadeth – Dystopia (Tradecraft) [Thrash]
Listen to “Dystopia,” “Fatal Illusion,” “The Threat is Real”

Ugggh. If Dave Mustaine wasn’t such an incredible douche, this would be a no-brainer. Based on the three tracks they have posted now, this is likely going to be the best Megadeth album in years. Kiko and Adler are excellent replacements for Broderick and Drover, bringing both their signature sounds to the Megadeth machine. Separate the music from the artist for maximum enjoyment. 1/22/16 (Spear)
