This Toilet Tuesday (11/29/16)

You cling tightly to the mast of your small sailboat as the storm tosses it about. It had been roiling on the horizon for some time now, but you were too far out to sea to change course. Lightning flashes directly overhead, and you wrap a rope around your forearm for added stability. Wind whips the sail above you, and you see a tear forming down its center. A massive wave crashes into your tiny ship; you scramble for purchase as it begins to capsize, but it’s futile in the deluge. Another flash of lightning briefly illuminates the horrific scene as you hit the water.

The rope around your arm has somehow tangled itself as the ship was upset, and you desperately try to free yourself before you’re pulled down into the depths. Your lungs burn, having expelled all your air with the exertion. You finally free your arm from the rigging, but you can feel your blood pumping in your temples; you don’t have much time. You place your palm near your mouth and cough up a last gasp of air, tracking the bubbles upwards. You can feel yourself fading as you swim, and you start to choke as your lungs desperately try to inhale. You lose consciousness seconds from the surface.

The deep calls. This is Toilet Tuesday.

Astral Winter – Forest of Silence (Immortal Frost Productions) [Black Metal]

Astral Winter has a sound quite befitting of their name, coupling airy synths and choirs with icy black metal. Forest of Silence has a grand, sweeping feel to it, not unlike this year’s earlier Hyperion release with just a hint of In The Nightshade Eclipse to round out the mix. It’s big, powerful, and chilling, and has some truly impressive guitar and keyboard shredding on top of it all. More solos in black metal, please. 11/28/16 (Spear)

Abnormal Inhumane – Consuming the Infinity (New Standard Elite) [Brutal Death Metal]
Listen to “Vortex of Unending Phenomena,” “Morphogenic Asymmetry”

Few things turn a shitty mood around quite like brutal death metal, and Abnormal Inhumane know how to deliver on that front. While it probably won’t be turning quite as many heads as Krighsu or FinitudeConsuming the Infinity has everything you could want: winding, nasty riffs; relentless drumming; and some savage bass playing. It’s got brains delivered by brawn, like being beaten over the head with a physics textbook. 11/30/16 (Spear)

For any of you power metal dorks out there, both Onmyo-za and Skywings warrant a listen. Solid J-power from both (albeit with silly lyrics on Skywings’ part).

    • W.

      You have Joe’s attention.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Nice intro Spear I liked it a lot.

    • Will look forward to it to check what can I enjoy. Thanks, Spearrow.

    • <3

    • RustyShackleford

Even with all the weird shit I listen to, J-power always makes my girlfriend call me a dweeb. WHO CARES?!?!

      • Howard Dean

I’m pretty sure any interest in J-Power/J-Pop would lead to my divorce.

        • Just gonna start posting nothing but Galneryus and X Japan until you cave

          • Howard Dean

I’ve read lots of good things about both of those bands (there’s a pretty big J-Pop and J-Power community on the metal-archives forums), but I’ve never checked them out.

          • X-Japan’s Blue Blood is mandatory 80s speed metal for anyone into the genre!

Galneryus is just ace level j-power. You don’t really NEED anyone else unless you’ve exhausted all of their albums and want more

          • RustyShackleford

In high school my friend and I had a ritual of always jamming random metal while we played Left 4 Dead and X Japan’s Blue Blood was DEFINITELY on the playlist. I’m gonna jam it today!

          • Even though I enjoy US and European power metal, I have never enjoyed that much the Japanese one. It’s so over the top that just jump off my cheese-o-meter.

          • Waynecro

It’s the opposite for me. I find the vocals in Japanese power metal much more tolerable than those in Western power metal. Maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to Japanese bands such as L’Arc-en-Ciel since I was a kid, and I’ve gotten used to the lounge-singer-style vocals.

        • RustyShackleford

This is most certainly within the realm of possibility. Especially if she catches you watching the music videos!!

          • Howard Dean

I think it’s just the idea of it, and the crazed fandom around it, and the uniquely Japanese cultish weirdness about it all. She’d probably question my decision-making ability and/or my mental health. And then I’d probably be out on my ass. Hahaha.

Luckily, I have no interest in it, so it’s no threat.

      • CyberneticOrganism

The T-X hates anime with a passion.

    • Waynecro

I’ve been into Onmyo-za for a long time now, but I’d never heard of Skywings before. I can dig it!

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Gonna check out Arma and possibly Cowards.

  • Ranger and Demontage are my winners this week, HAIL TRUE HEAVY METAL

  • AeonsOvChaos

I’m off topic again and I don’t have news to share but the gates of time are always open when you want to come back to the past, thank you Doctor Strange, now I can share some true coldness and darkness at the Toilet:

    • YouTube Power Metal Fan

“Why didn’t the keyboardist or bassist wear a Phantom Mask? It would’ve been metal as fuck!”

      – DracoRogue1218

      • Howard Dean

“It’s really hard to shred fast with this dragon cock in my ass.”

        • Somebody is booty bothered 😉

          • Howard Dean

“So who would I rather have in my threesome: John Arch or Luca Turilli? TRICK QUESTION. That is my threesome!”

          • Yeah why wouldn’t you want both if you could have them?

    • Joaquin Stick

I think the youtube link to this album needs to go the way of the bacotell.

      • Unless somebody can properly sync up the audio with lots of longbuttz, I may agree with you

        • Joaquin Stick

Shiiiiiit. Nulty, you just invented a new genre of music. 80’s synth-wave traditional black metal. (I bet someone has done it)

          • The ultimate combination of digital and analog music! I’ve seen that one Immortal video, obviously they like dancing.

          • CyberneticOrganism

      • Taco ʖell?

  • Howard Dean

Pretty slim this week (besides Ranger), which is fine, as I’m still digesting Cultes Des Ghoules – Coven. Absolutely massive concept. Riffs. Drama. Lyrics. The CD packaging is choice. Work of art all the way around.

    • I’ve been catching up on the death metal game last week and yesterday, have you heard Vanhelgd?

      • Howard Dean

I haven’t heard their new one, but remember liking one of their albums from a few years ago. Pretty solid Swedish death metal if I remember correctly. Is the new album legit?

        • It’s just the right speed of mid tempo death/doom for me! I had fun with it

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

You might like that FamishGod too if you liked the Vanhelgd

          • This album?

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

scroll up to the list of releases

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

          it’s quality cave core

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      These dudes slay

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

My Stalker tape came in last night

      • Against all reason, I still have not listened to Stalker.

I kind of want to not to just as a running joke at this point

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Don’t want to listen to Stalker or Vulture?

  • Dumpster Lung ᴰᵃᵐᵃᵍᵉ_ᴵⁿᶜ⁸⁹

Haha, I totally see what you mean here:

“No More Fear – Malamente (Memorial Records) [Melodeath, allegedly]” That teaser really is worthless. I found a couple older songs on Youtube. Executed well enough, but seems kinda boring. Plus, one album seems to be about the Mafia, because the band is from Italy, I guess?

(To be fair, the whole song isn’t like this part, but I thought this was too funny not to share)

  • Depechemodeisgangsta

    Borracho sounds promising for me.

  • RustyShackleford

Just wanted to share I’ve eaten chili for two nights in a row and I’m commenting while pooping. YEP!!!

  • You’ll Cowards don’t even listen to Cowards.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

      I was going to!

      • It’s hateful sludge, slightly blackened if that’s your thing.

        • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Sounds like a thing that could be my thing.

  • CyberneticOrganism

Loving Astral Winter, gonna buy that and take it with me to the woods nearby for a hike when it snows #winterfun #kvltactivities #healthy #winterdemon

    • Elegant Gazing Globe

sounds like dimmu borgir with more keytar and less Tomas Rune Anderson

      • Ah, good ole Paul Tomas “Rune” Anderson

        • CyberneticOrganism

          Böögïe Nïghts

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

          love those early OMC albums

      • CyberneticOrganism

I’m getting a strong Mystic Circle vibe from it – years ago this was my go-to winter album, it’s pure catchy riffmania

        • Elegant Gazing Globe

oh this sounds good so far

  • That Consuming Infinity cover art is 10/10, will absolutely jam.

  • KyleJMcBride

  • nbm02ss

    Dat Bethlehem track, tho.

  • New Great Old Ones song too.

  • atchdav
  • Waynecro

Ash Borer is a good, and Black Therapy and Demonic Kingdom sound OK. NAILS!!! I’m pumped and ready for some new Onmyo-za.

  • Guppusmaximus

Devastation Inc. does no justice at all to that legendary namesake. Fucking terrible.
