It is once more Toilet Tuesday and god damn, bands, please stop putting out music. I can’t keep up. Nobody can. We’re coming up on the time of year that usually sees a slump in releases, and yet they still keep coming strong. Hans and I have highlighted a couple notable albums, but rest assured there’s plenty more below.

Corporate Death – Reborn (Misanthropic Records) [Death Metal]
Listen to “In the Vastness of Time”

Really digging the energy on display here. Coming out the gate like a battering ram with sober, yet gnarly production that saves the band’s technical flourishes from drowning. They never get too tech, mind you, just enough to make you perk up and go, “Huh, I wouldn’t have thought of that,” and then it goes right back to the battering. Still effective after my tenth or so listen. 11/30/17 (Hans)

Onirism / Pure Wrath – Endless Journey (split- Throats Productions) [Atmospheric Black Metal]
Listen

Don’t let that genre tag fool you; this isn’t just some spacey synths drowning out endless mopey chord droning and shrieking. Endless Journey is beautiful and melodic, with both sides offering up their own taste of grand synthesized orchestral black metal. Some may find it a bit hammy, but I couldn’t help but get swept up in the vision it presents. 12/1/17 (Spear)

Annihilation – The Undivided Wholeness of All Things (Nice To Eat You Records) [Brutal Death Metal]
Stream

There are bands who can write a competent album within the confines of their particular genre, and then there are those who look at the genre and say, “Fuck all that.” Annihilation are distinctly and proudly part of the latter camp; while the gurgled vocals and huge, ugly riffs are certainly hallmarks of brutal death, their approach to songwriting is much more methodical and contemplative than the majority of their peers. This is slow and uncomfortable, sludgy and oftentimes dissonant, but never repetitive. Even the lyrics eschew the typical blood’n’guts in favor of spiritual musings and mysticism. In short, it’s really fucking good. 11/28/17 (Spear)

    Apparently Kingdoms has leaked

    • Hans

I hope what you’re referring to is actually called “Apparently Kingdoms”

  • “01101111011101100110111001101001 – S / 2 0 0 4 S 3 (Pathologically Explicit Recordings) [Brutal Death Metal]”

So I put 01101111011101100110111001101001 into a Binary translator…it spit out ovni. Looked up ovni, looks like it stands for “objet volant non identifié,” AKA UFO.

      THIS IS WHUT I GOT:

      C++: “void*”

  • Speaking of Operation:Mindcrine, I took my son to the Thor movie (decent enough entertainment, nothing special) and had a good chuckle at how much this dude looked like Geoff Tate.

      Oh my god. Movie ruined.

      • Joaquin Stick

Can’t wake up joke gave me a hearty chortle. Thnks.

        • Spear

It was right there. Couldn’t not do it.

    • Janitor Jim Duggan

It’s sadly their final album because of elitists and a bunch of assholes who think that because he’s made mistakes and isn’t in Queensryche anymore that he’s irredeemable and doesn’t deserve a career. #GeoffTateDeservesBetter

      • Spear

Or, y’know, people don’t like his recent output because it’s exceptionally weak.

        • Janitor Jim Duggan

It’s not weak to me. He can still deliver live.

          • Spear

Point is, there are a hundred other heavy metal bands playing the same style with much greater talent. You don’t give an artist a free ride on shitty material because of their legacy, especially not when you can get much better from a smaller name.

      • Elegant Gazing Globe

        #MAGA

      • don’t blame the fans for rejecting his shitty music.

      • OldMetalHead

I’ve been following Queensryche since the beginning (bought the EP on cassette when it came out). It’s sad to see how far Geoff has fallen. I really think the dude is on drugs or mentally ill. Hope he gets the help he needs.

        • Janitor Jim Duggan

I hope he does get help. I prefer his music at this point.

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

When did Randall Thor do the video shoot with Silent Descent?

  • my local coffee shop (non-GMO beans, operated only by vegan singer-songwriters) suffered CORPORATE DEATH when the new Starbucks was constructed right next to it 🙁

Operation Mindcrime’s newest album has my attention. I really enjoy their work and although Geoff Tate is a dick I still love them.

I saw on Book o’ Faces this a.m. that Spite (U.S.) will be releasing their debut album in early ’18. Preorders up on bandcamp. Haven’t been excited by much lately but this one got me going.

    • Dubby Fresh

The song titles intrigue me. Are they inspired by Kaballah or gnosticism? They’re not overtly heretical/satanic.

      • Howard Dean

Yeah, not sure. Music is good, though. The one track streaming sounds killer. Really catchy stuff, bit of a Hellenic BM or Svolder/GBK/Ares Kingdom style of riffing. Love the vocals, too. Definitely excited for this one.

  • Doc Torluv

Come Back from the Dead has me rapt. On first listen reminds me of an odd mashup between old Dismember (maybe Nihilist) and Carnivore. Buena musica.

3/4 TURDS, NOEIN IS ACTUALLY LISTENABLE BUT NOT WORTH TURNING OFF UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTEN

  • Morbidly Obese Angel

Annihilation is sounding pretty killer. Definitely not a run of the mill BDM band, gonna have to pick that one up come payday!

  • OldMetalHead

The guitars on the ONIRISM first track sound very Santana-esq in parts. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it threw me off a bit on first listen.
