Check out this lineup for Netherlands Deathfest 2017 and then change your pants. Lots of Toilet Ov Hell faves on this one. Still, it doesn’t compare to the revamped MDF lineup. How bizarre!

Drummer Dirk Verbeuren has left Soilwork to join the musician revolving door known as Megadeth full time. Verbeuren had this to say about his decision:

“They say the biggest decisions in life are the hardest to make. This decision falls under that category. As a drummer I’ve always enjoyed the evolution of my path. The past twelve years with Soilwork have been incredible, a portion of my life I honor with pride. When I was approached to join Megadeth– a childhood dream come true and something I never anticipated- I was beyond excited to even consider the realm of possibility. But truth be told, I couldn’t have rightfully made this step without the support and blessing of my Soilwork family.

For that I owe a huge thank you to Bjorn, Sven, David, Sylvain and Markus. You have allowed me to see what lies ahead, and you’re my brothers in metal. Chris Adler, thank you for introducing me to Megadeth and for your encouragement and support. Dave, David and Kiko, I’m thankful for your warm welcome and thrilled to perform and create badass music with you guys. To the fans, this is a new chapter for us; I hope we can enjoy this ride together!”

Speaking of bands losing members, American Head Charge guitarist Ted Hallows and drummer Chris Emery have both quit the band leading to some very public squabbling on the band’s Facebook page.

  • Am I the only one that has not been pleased with the new Defeated Sanity material?

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I liked that the brutal half had some of their most-caveman-brute-ish stuff ever. Those were the first DS songs ever to resonate with me, so figures thet’d go all prog on the second half.

    • Howard Dean

The prog side really sent me reeling and is not my cup of death metal. I don’t know what the fuck they were trying to do, but I didn’t/don’t really like it. I just want blasts, gutturals, and the occasional ball-crushing slam when I listen to Defeated Sanity. The wannabe Cynic-shit is weird.

That being said, the regular BDM side is OK. I prefer my BDM to be more blasty/slammy rather than technical. DS has always walked that line pretty well. But when I have Chapters of Repugnance, I don’t know if I need this new stuff.

      • Exactly, Chapters and Psalms of the Moribund are absolute brutal-death masterpieces. I don’t think they’ll ever be able to top those two albums. Just my opinion obviously, but that Cynic-shit is just a really bad mix. It truly ruins everything about that new album for me.

  • CyberneticOrganism

    – Holy shit that Netherlands DF lineup
    – RIP Dirk Verburen
    – That Hammerfall logo Bevel effect

    • Joaquin Stick

Max bevel and outer glow? Stacks on stacks of effects.

      • The Photoshop CS2 is strong in this one.

      • CyberneticOrganism

I was once a bevel abuser, but I sought help.

  • Thanks for compilling this news, 365!

I’m more than eager to listen the new Dark Tranquillity album, the snippets they have posted on their bunker studio seems to be awesome, to me.

On sad news, I’m still crying that Dirk Verbeuren left Soilwork to enter the revolving door of musicians named Megakek #sadboyemoji. On the other hand, that rare material collection of Soilwork is for sure tasty.

Blackgate album seems to be great! Listened a song and it got me interested in hearing the full material.

I giggled a little with the “Metal cruise/puke-and-diarrhea petri dish 70,000 Tons Of Metal” because three of the links are related to me, lolz. Seems that I have to be in one of those vomit fests one in a time. This year’s inclusion of Kalmah, Therion and Amorphis is great; loved it!

On more extreme music news, you’re damn right. That Netherlands fest is GREAT!

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Also, Wintersun claim to be ready with their latest disappointment Time II.

    • I have to see it to believe it.

      #Wintersungnostic

    • Incontinent Gorilla Rodeo

Oh, they finally got their Jacuzzi, super computer, coffee machine, grape peeling maidens, and 3 kobe steak dinners a day crowdfunded?

    • Incontinent Gorilla Rodeo

Where did you see this news? I looked it up and haven’t found anything. Are you playing games with my heart over here?

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

        Wintersun’s own FB page ä.

        • Incontinent Gorilla Rodeo

Hmmmmmmmmm I’ll have to look again.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

New DT artwork I like a lot, excited to hear it (haven’t played any snippets either).

Also excited for a new Gnaw Their Tongues album, because Mories stated to have founded the old fire again, but then, he’s still maning too much music.

Tool album is supposedly a double album with no songs under 12 minutes, how exactly is it not going to suck?

    • CyberneticOrganism

That Tool news has to be fake. Maynard and his gleaming penis head will make a statement in another day or two about how he totally fooled everyone and man aren’t you all idiots for believing what I said in an interview ha ha ha I’m so subversive.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Maynard needs to choke on a dick, the rest of the band could start an instrumental band called looT.

        • Vault Dweller

10/10, gimme the looT gimme the looT

        • I’d be perfectly fine with that.

        • Eliza

That’s what should’ve happened like 7 years ago.

      • Eliza

I’m sceptical about that too. Even if I really wish it was true.

      • Incontinent Gorilla Rodeo

Eh, who cares? We have Soen in the meantime, which is practically a brand new Tool album on a regular schedule. Maynard can stick to hocking his Two Buck Chuck wine at Trader Joe’s for all I care.

      • more beer

They are the most overrated band ever. I hope they never release anything ever again.

        • CyberneticOrganism

          High five and 2 pulls

          • more beer

A dab right back at you sir!

    • Vault Dweller

It is literally impossible for an ambient jam Tool album with 12+ minute tracks to suck. It can not be. It will only be Third Eye, Eulogy, and Reflection-level tracks all the way through.

At the end of the album extraterrestrials will gently lift you away to your new home on a better, more enlightened planet away from humans… for you will have ascended and become the 48-chromosome deity spoken of only by the Prophet Maynard in the Aenima Diaries.

  • Howard Dean

Demolition Hammer, Nifelheim, Dead Congregation, Brodequin, General Surgery, Impaled Nazarene, Corpsessed…

Fuck you, Dutch bastards! I didn’t want to go to your little Deathfest anyway!

    • Did you happen to hear that new Nifelheim song that was featured on the Critical Mass Volume 3 Compilation? It sounded damn good!!!

      • Howard Dean

Yes, I did. I saw it on NWN a few weeks ago. Sounds killer! Can’t go wrong with Nifelheim. Long live the Heavy Metal brothers (and their skullets)!

    • So, you’re the real HD definition!

I thought it was a troll, huheuheue.

      • Howard Dean

Real deal indeed, Link! How’s it going? I know things in Venezuela have deteriorated quite a bit since the last time we spoke. Is everything going OK on the homefront? I’ve read a few articles about the shortages and the civil unrest. Feels bad, man. Hoping things are good with you, though!

        • Thanks for the kind words, duder.

I’m working, my salary improved a little bit, but the inflation is just worse. Anyways, I married in december and we are having a blast being married couple of young adults, jajaja.

          • Howard Dean

Good to hear! Congrats on your marriage and improved salary. Hoping things settle down in Venezuela.

          • Thanks a lot, mang-o! I’m hoping for the better of my country too 🙂

          • Ted Nü-Djent ™

            Kids on the horizon?

          • Not yet, the situation is too difficult for having kids right now.

We don’t have diapers, milk formulas and the hospitals or clinics services are very bad.

We have talked about it, and we agree that this is not a good time to have kids.

          • Ted Nü-Djent ™

            🙁

    • Dubbbz

I’d definitely like to see Brodequin.

    • more beer

I was pretty pissed when they added Usurper to CDF instead of Demolition Hammer. But good for them. Dan the singer is a pretty good friend of mine. So I do look forward to seeing him in October. I will just have to settle for Kill for Metal, instead of 44 Caliber Brain Surgery.

  • “Psalm Zero – 08/04 Providence RI @ Dusk w/ Tovarish, Hadean, Snowbeasts”.

Go to this show and prepare to get spooped with Tovarish setting or complete your calculus homework with Hadean ok

  • Heliocrat

Hammerfall’s designer should be charged with crimes agains artistic decency and be shoot in the face.

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

I can’t keep up with all of this content this morning

  • Heliocrat

Saw Red Fang twice arround the time of their first album. Cool band and fun shows.
Didn’t really care for their second album but digging that new song. Plus the cover art is rad.

    • RustyShackleford

I think I saw them open for Mastodon right after the second album came out. Agree fun show. First album is totally awesome. I still remember when my friend and I found the video for Prehistoric Dog and just went “yep this is our shit right here” haha

  • Vault Dweller

Oh daaaaaaaaaaaaaaammit. Verbeuren, Say it ain’t so!

Dirk was one of the best parts of this recent Soilwork Golden Age and probably deserves more credit than anyone outside of Bjorn himself for the last few albums. With Wichers gone, it seems like Dirk and Bjorn really shined.

This feels like a bad thing for Soilwork, but they’ve historically dealt with lineup changes reasonably well. I’m less excited about Verbeuren in MegaDave than in SW, even if I love both bands. Fuck.

    • Any clues of Soilwork reemplace for Dirk?

Do you think Wildoer would come back?

    • CyberneticOrganism

I’m sure Megadeth pays better, but it sucks a drummer with that much ability is going to be locked down playing A Tout Le Monde

  • RustyShackleford

*starts going through Phil Labonte tweets”

Welp there goes my IQ. Other than that lots of good news that I will certainly be using today. I’m conflicted about new Red Fang. I love their first two albums but seems like everything after that is GOOD but not MEMORABLE. Idk maybe I just have to be in the mood for it. Also Psychostick YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

The AHC news breaks my heart.

  • Tool?

    *PASSIONATE FART NOISES*

    • Janitor Jim Duggan

It has to be a troll job. There is no way that it’s real. Half Life 3 is more likely to come out first and I’m betting Tool is making the soundtrack for it.

  • Dave Vincent’s Perm

Is it just me or is modern black metal way better than modern death metal? I love OSDM more than life itself but I can’t remember the last time I got excited over a new death metal album.

  • Incontinent Gorilla Rodeo

“Drummer Dirk Verbeuren has left Soilwork to join the heavy metal temp agency known as Megadeth for a few months. ”

    FTFY

And, as expected, none of these dates are coming anywhere near me. Are bands confusing VA for NC and avoiding us on accident? :-p

  • Stockhausen

The childhood dream of joining Megadeth should have floated away with a soft, gentle puff of “…lolbuttz…” 10 or so years ago.

    • Hans Müller

That, or become the dream of joining a Megadeth coverband.

  • Waynecro

When I saw Nekrogoblikon a few months back, Psychostick was one of the opening bands. They had, by far, the biggest crowd of the night. They turned the pit into a game by giving a fan a sombrero to wear. Then they told everyone in the pit to try to get the sombrero before the next song ended. The sombrero was torn to shreds before the song ended. The first three scar Symmetry albums mean a great deal to me, and I love Arsis. If that tour were coming to SD, I’d go. Also, ALLEGAEON!!!

  • The Tetrachord of Archytas
