The Monday Press: Blind Guardian, Beyond Creation, and More!

This week’s roundup is going the ways of crowdsourcing!

Seriously, I dug and I dug, and found almost no interesting news. I am going to need some help here, so if you found anything interesting over the past few days, post it down below! Here’s what I got:

Hate Eternal has some tour dates with, Vital Remains, Inanimate Existence, and Black Fast. IE has some extra solo dates if you are interested.

In the words of Oliva Newton John, “Let’s get Technical, Technical” with a Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil, and The Zenith Passage tour.

Blind Guardian and Grave Digger announced a tour. The dates on the poster were tiny and blurry, so here they are in text form:

9/09/2016 The Orpheum – Tampa, FL
9/10/2016 Revolution – Fort Lauderdale, FL
9/12/2016 Ziggy’s By The Sea – Wilmington, NC
9/13/2016 Cats Cradle – Chapel Hill, NC
9/15/2016 Webster Hall – New York, NY
9/16/2016 The Palladium – Worcester, MA
9/19/2016 London Music Hall – London, ON CANADA
9/20/2016 The Crofoot – Pontiac, MI
9/22/2016 Sokol Auditorium – Omaha, NE
9/23/2016 The Rave II – Milwaukee, WI
9/24/2016 Pierre’s Entertainment Center – Fort Wayne, IN
9/26/2016 Warehouse Live – Houston, TX
9/27/2016 Gas Monkey Live – Dallas, TX
9/29/2016 The Summit Music Hall – Denver, CO
9/30/2016 The Complex – Salt Lake City, UT
10/01/2016 House Of Blues – Las Vegas, NV
10/02/2016 Observatory North Park – San Diego, CA
10/04/2016 The Fonda Theatre – Los Angeles
10/05/2016 The Fillmore – San Francisco, CA

Melodic Death / Folk Metal band, Eluveitie, parted ways with three members. They should be fine, considering their Wikipedia member graph looks like someone’s attempt to map a timeline of Inception or some weird time travel movie.

  • Probably one of the coolest festival lineups I have ever seen is the Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault in August. Acts include Abbath, Aborted, Conan, Electric Wizard, Ihsahn, Mastodon, Vektor, and whole lot more.
  • Electric Wizard are working on their ninth album, so look for that around October.
  • New Sabaton album coming in August.
  • There’s some band drama going on with Liv Kristine being kicked out of Leaves’ Eyes.

That’s seriously all I got. What obscure shit did I miss?

  • I’ve been playing this album a lot this weekend and about to play it again here now. Sick D-Beat out of Spain. It came out late March so it’s not too new, but it’s a 2016 release and it fucking rips.

EDIT: If you dig later Disfear you’ll most likely enjoy this.

  • Joaquin Stick

Forgot to mention the new Black Crown Initiate song if you haven’t heard it.

    • whole lot going on here

      • Joaquin Stick

I’m on the fence. Second half of the song seems to be better than the first.

        • The beginning sounds like The Acacia Strain. The clean vocal parts sound like Dream Theater. This song has an identity crisis.

          • Joaquin Stick

I thought the beginning was just super boring, there’s nothing special about it. I actually like the clean sections, but maybe only because they break away from the nothingness.

          • The first song released from wreckage was pretty boring too. Great Mistake or whatever.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Great Mistake describes BCI activities pretty aptly

          • Ouch!

          • Möthër Shäbübü

            Identity chrysys and lost faythe.

    • Those cleans are icky.

    • This does nothing for me at all. Here’s hoping it’s the worst song on the album. It’s kinda tragic really. The Ep was just so fucking good that anything that comes after it is likely gonna look worse.

    • The header image of this news roundup is terrific, Joaquín!

      • Joaquin Stick

Thanks! I have lots of fun trying to figure out what to do to my poor news anchor.

    • bold opinion time:
BCI has been doing the same thing ever since day one. many folks who are crying “not a fan of the new stuff” are having trouble realizing that they initially flourished for having a relatively innovative sound…and BCI just isn’t for them.
      (just a theory)

      • Joaquin Stick

Maybe. At least for some people. I am sure I’ll still like the new album, but I think the songs on the EP were just more memorable.

  • Eliza

I was so ready for Being Guardian having announced a new album. But it’s just another tour whith no shows near me. 🙁

  • that HE/VR show BETTER decide on my side of the state

    • Joaquin Stick

5/22/2016 The Rabbit Hole – NC
5/25/2016 Culture Room – Fort Lauderdale, FL

Poster is outdated. Does this help?

  • Beyond Creation tour and Blind Guardian tour have great lineups. Would totally see those shows.

That Eluveitie graph induced me a serious headache. Thanks, Joaquín!

    • tigeraid

      They’re coming to London! JOY!

  • There’s a new Kvelertak song. I liek it.

    • Joaquin Stick

Might just be an issue on my end, but the vid seems to be broked.

      • that or the new song is a power electronics track.

      • No it’s definitely broken

        • I think YouTube is having issues. I refreshed the page and I can’t see any videos now.

          • Well, why did you break youtube?

          • It displeased me.

          • Hubert

            Not available for me 🙁

          • megachiles

Aw yiss, I’m so hype for this album.

          • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

Arik Roper’s artwork is awesome as always. That said, this is just ‘meh’ for me. I feel like Kvelertak always has a few songs like this on their albums, not horrible, but nothing in it is really grabbing me. I like the backing vocals though, and their tone is killer. Wait, o shit, the dual solo around the 4:00 mark is awesome.

          • EsusMoose

Probably the best track they’ve released so far from the new album

  • Blind Guardian is the greatest band in the universe.

If you have the chance to see them, do it.

    • Joaquin Stick

I’ll go to the The Palladium – Worcester MA show if some warrior wants to join me.

    • all the way to chapel hill in september might be worth it. itd be my second time

      • That’s where I’ll most likely be, unless I find an extra day off (then I’ll do Wilmington too)

        • perhaps ill see you there, RT. i have a hard time planning ahead all the way to september with work tho

          • Yeah I just know that between MDF, Frost & Fire, and Prog Power I may not have that extra vacation day to pull it off, but I’ll have a better idea closer to the date

          • i also had planned to go see Dragged into Sunlight/Primitive Man in Raleigh around my birthday. i should have some days building up but theres no tellin what else might arise

          • you’re near asheville or raleigh? my band TurdCutter has played both recently

          • im in asheville, but mine and my wifes families live in raleigh

          • Were you at the Night Demon/Visigoth show?

          • Nah man I probably didn’t even know it was happening

    • ME GORAK B.C.™

GORAK GOING TRY SEE 3 TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWICE 4 SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

I now have a second chance. HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!

  • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

Hot damn, the lineup for that festival… So many good bands. I’d honestly go just to see Year of No Light play. Always good to see my hometown heroes Eyehategod and Goatwhore playing together in Europe as well. It’s in an old fort too, which is metal as fuck.

And I just gotta say, I’ve just discovered Cobalt for the first time and been listening to their new album all morning. Stuff is killer. Everyone hear should check them out if they haven’t, but I’m sure I’m the late one to the train here.

  • It suppose it was today that Venezuelan doom/sludge band Cultura Tres will be releasing the single of their upcoming record. I can’t check it out because I’m at work, but this is their Fan Page, if someone can back me up to share this news:

If you’re not familiarized with Cultura Tres, check out this article:

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

I saw them post something, but I don’t speak Mexican, so I couldn’t tell 🙁

      • >( ;_;)>

Google translate doesn’t help? I think they were going to publish the single, but I don’t know in which platform. Or copy-paste the thingy, I will translate Mexican-English.

        • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod
          • Thanks, man!

The text says that Cultura Tres is releasing a “bonus track” of their upcoming record today. The song is titled “Sal y Piedras” (Salt and stones). Will be published tonight at 9:00pm on a national radio station (, in the program Rock en Ñ.

I think this is pretty weird, they are releasing a bonus track of the record. I will try to check the radio tonight, but I don’t promise too much; the radio is located in Caracas and sometimes I don’t get good signal on it. Is the only alternative music radio on the country.

  • CyberneticOrganism

I saw this video over the weekend where Matt Pike & Abbath become BFFs

    • Dudes look rough.

    • Señor Jefe El Rosa

Maybe they will finally start the band I’ve always wanted to hear!

    • Möthër Shäbübü

Matt Pike’s teeth were an inside job.

    • PostBlackenedWhaleGaze

      This is amazing.

    • Lisa Ling: Devourer Of Souls

Yikes, Gallagher’s looking pretty rough nowadays.

  • HessianHunter

I’m looking at that Eluveitie chart and just wondering what the fuck happened in 2005

    • Dubs

This is all it says on wikipedia: At this point, the band became full-time, and 7 of the 10 members left for various reasons, leaving Chrigel Glanzmann, Sevan Kirder and Meri Tadić to carry on with new members. They recruited six others, including Sevan Kirder’s brother Rafi to play bass, making Eluveitie a nine-piece band……

      • “the band became full-time”

        What a dream

        • Pentagram Sam

Not to be a negative nancy pants, but I’m wondering what they mean by “full time.” As in like, make enough money to where they only do the music as a job ahahahahahhaha or full time as in we’re touring a ton (they did) and playing a bunch of festivals.

Cos I remember when Inis Mona was the BIG HIT during the big Paganfest tour around 06-07, but srsly can’t see how a 9 piece “pure fuckin” folk metal band made enough for everyone to live off. Unless maybe they all lived in the same house.

          • Not negative nancy pants at all!

I’m not sure. I know it seemed like they were hyper popular in the European market, so their album sales/show turnouts there could have been full time? Who knows, they could have been like you said where they are just a full time travelling band and money comes for wherever they can find it between gigs

  • Dave Vincent’s Perm
  • RJA

New Forteresse track over at Stereogum – Quebec Black Metal

    • Lacertilian

I’ve been enjoying this album quite a bit, I think someone in our midst has been working on a review for the bowl

      • RJA

This track has me pretty excited for the album – look forward to the review.

  • Señor Jefe El Rosa

  • tigeraid
  • Waynecro

Damn, man. I’d actually leave my house to see Hate Eternal/Vital Remains and Beyond Creation/The Zenith Passage, but those tours don’t come to my general area.

  • Lisa Ling: Devourer Of Souls

LMAO @ new Leave’s Eyes (as if they weren’t bad enough before).

And judging by the audience’s reactions in their recent live videos, doesn’t look like they’re too terribly thrilled about the change/Krull being an epic douche that keeps changing his story.

  • Warheart

LOL, I always thought Leaves Eyes were Liv’s band, they have to be seriously fucked up in the head to willingly get rid of the only reason people know them.

    • Lisa Ling: Devourer Of Souls

Yep, and they keep changing their story as to what happened, whereas Liv’s keeping to her’s. The fan reaction, even at their recent shows, has been overwhelmingly negative. Hopefully she’ll get Theater Of Tragedy back up and going, which is far far better than LE.
