Skipping This New Black Crown Initiate Song Would Be A “Great Mistake”

When Reading, PA’s Black Crown Initiate released Song of the Crippled Bull last year, they were riding high on the hype train. When I first heard it I just couldn’t get into it. Something about it just didn’t click with me for some reason. A few months later, the intro to “The Stench of the Iron Age” was constantly getting stuck in my head and I decided to throw on the EP. What the heck was wrong with me when it came out?? This band shreds.

Anyway, they have a new album called The Wreckage of Stars coming September 30 on eOne Music, and they’ve just put up the opening track, “The Great Mistake”, on SoundCloud. Check it out below:

Pretty great right? I don’t know what it is, but phrygian dominant melodies = never not awesome. Randall Thor said “it’s like if all the wanky tech death noodly woodly bands stopped and actually wrote a song“.

The Wreckage of Stars is out September 30 on eOne Music, and the band will appear with The Faceless, Rings of Saturn, Archspire, Fallujah and Fatality on the Summer Slaughter Canada Club Tour. Dates are as follows:

8/14/2014 Quebec City, QC Dagobert
8/15/2014 Montreal, QC Les Foufounes Electriques
8/16/2014 Toronto, ON Mod Club

Homer, you had a head. And your bottom was a little bigger.

  • Guacamole Jim

    Dat headline

    • YourLogicIsFlushed

Reminds me of an MS headline, but not confusing as balls

      • Misanthropic Anus

        Speaking of MS headlines…

        • yeah……shit’s gonna get shitty over there. personally, i think it could be coincidence. the joke writes itself really.

          • Misanthropic Anus

It most likely is. M Shadows doesn’t like their headline

          • BoogerFlicker

Robert Pasbani just copped to liking King 810 on Metal Injection a while ago. I guess they don’t want to keep a shred of self-respect even for themselves. I get that good and bad as it relates to music is purely subjective but King 810 is just plain bad.

        • Det. Flushin Bohl

          No one say anything…

          • Misanthropic Anus

            Can I touch you instead?

          • Det. Flushin Bohl

Only if you cuddle when you’re done.

          • Misanthropic Anus

            Okay baby.

          • Det. Flushin Bohl

            XOXO

        • YourLogicIsFlushed

I really hope that was the real Matt Damon over there. So beautiful.

          • Misanthropic Anus

That comment made me emotional in a good way.

        • Gorgasm

          LMFAO!!!!

could be said they ripped the pallbearer/yob as well.

  • W.

    Good jorb therr, homstar!

    • Stockhausen

      GREAT JEEEEAAAAAOOOOOORRRB!!

  • This is very good. I regret not checking this band out sooner.

    • Stockhausen

You must now atone for this great mistake (do you see what I did?)

  • Det. Flushin Bohl

    TITS! m/
    *anti-flush*

  • Alright, fine. You guys win. It’s pretty good.

    • There is so much good tech-death going on around here! It is impossible to keep track of it all!

      BYAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Howard Dean

Unrelated to this, but: Is anyone else bummed that the man who coined and popularized the toilet ov hell and flushing schtick–Mr. RiotAct666–has pretty much been nonexistent on this site? I know he posted a little during the first week or so, but he’s been pretty much MIA since. But by the look of his disqus profile, he’s still active over at the site that shall remain unnamed. Kind of a bummer.

      • I’m with you. But you cannot tell him what to do. He is a force of nature.

      • Christian Molenaar

        He’s doing God’s work; flushing the non-believers.

      • i think he panicked when he found out he wasn’t getting under our collective skin.
        i do miss the guy.

        • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

you can take the troller out of the water, but you can’t take the troll out of the troll or something to that effect . I think you know what i mean.
Check out my new trolling boat for sailing the choppy waters of FFB.

      • As other people have said, I believe he’s more of a missionary, spreading the word of flush amongst the non-believers to better our cause. If anyone can, it’s him. Dude’s a wizard with words.

        • PERIOD!

          GL

        • my all-time favorite was when he would say, “good luck moving the pool table to make room for your dive bar band!!!”

          • Howard Dean

“Flush Kerry ‘Burger’ King and his aching back from helping the bartender move that oh-so-heavy pool table out of the way so that the Slayer cover band could play.”

      • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

he is here, I assure you. but this site posts so much less flushable content he has no reason to do as much flushing.

      • Mother Shabubu III

To be honest, no. He may have given birth for the idea for this last beacon of hope for metal blogging (aside from American Aftermath), but I find the constant flushing of everything and anything annoying and distracting from the kind of conversations/discussions we have on here.

        • Lacertilian

It’s essentially saved me some time via not having to scroll down as far to get past the *flush, exit light* etc. & all those who reply to it and finally get to the interesting comments.

    • Gluteus_Maximus_Rage

Damn straight. Really looking forward to this one dropping.

  • Keegan Lavern Still

Preorders are already up. I’ve already splooged and bought mine.

    http://www.indiemerch.com/eonemusic/band/black-crown-initiate

  • Just bought the single on Itunes and preordered physical copy from indiemerch. Hell yea!

  • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

why why why do good, heavy bands like this have to slip these clean singing interludes in?

    • YourLogicIsFlushed

      Because it sounds good sometimes?

      • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

        subjective

        • YourLogicIsFlushed

          Agreed

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

            meaningful dialogue!

          • W.

            BYAAAH!

          • Randall Thor

UGH YOU ARE SO WRONG, YOU IDIOT. CLEAN SINGING IS ALNEVER GOOD AND YOU’RE AN IDIOT FOR THINKING SO

          • ARGH! everyone start arguing!!!!!!!!!

          • Misanthropic Anus

I don’t like you or what you stand for.
Now I shall wait for the argument to continue.

          • Det. Flushin Bohl

            LOUD NOISES!

        • KJM

          VERY subjective.

      • Lacertilian

Agreed, the only time it becomes a problem for me is when bands like Mastodon & The Faceless (first two examples I could summon) go from using it sparingly, to using it every chorus, then later to all the time.

    • This is one of those bands where I look forward to the clean vocals.

      • Pagliacci is Kvlt

This band and Secrets of the Sky nail it.

  • Randall Thor

Have seen this band live, highly recommend them. Super nice dudes, all of them talked to me after the show. Ask the singer about his scowl-face.

    • W.

      Owl face?

      • Det. Flushin Bohl

        Oh no.

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt

When I saw Jesse drum for Abigail Williams, after the set he was right out in the crowd talking to people. The rest of Abigail Williams bee-lined it out of there, which I thought was weird, because at the beginning of the set they were looking for someone from the area to put them up for the night.

  • Poop Mango

Shitty. I’m going to miss these guys when they come through. BOOOO FOR NOT ACCOMMODATING MY SCHEDULE BLACK CROWN INITIATE

Edit: Eh, not really stoked about the rest of that lineup anyway aside from Fallujah.

  • ParallaxativeHyperStool

Holy fucking shit pissing fuck ass tits this is some good shit. Also all those fucking Canada dates and they cant dip down to NYC before heading west? FUCKERS.

    • Flushgod Apocalypse

I’m a huge fan of your avatar. Glad to see you around these parts, sir!

      • ParallaxativeHyperStool

        YOU BETCHA

      • Lacertilian

        The King Of Rats.

  • BoogerFlicker

I sincerely hope the rest of the album lives up to this track. I’ve been waiting on an LP from these guys since that EP dropped last year. If they live up to their full potential with this album then people who don’t like the new Opeth will have an alternative in their desire for proggy death metal.

  • Xan

That double bass blast sends shivers of ecstasy across my body.

    • Stockhausen

      Jesse is an unreal drummer.

  • i liked the EP. i REALLY like this song; the full album should be the rocket!

    • Stockhausen

Sucks you had to split early in STL. They murdered it that night and played this song.

      • i really do add that to my list of regrets. it’s a mistake that will not be made again!

  • It’s ok. Yeah, I said it.

  • Xan

That artwork is amazing. So ethereal.

  • Mr. Bojangles

    This is really fucking good.
Think I just became a BCI fan.

    -Mr. Bojangles.

  • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

Loving all the concert dates posted on the site.
    Today in taylor transformations.
” pa, can i keep her pa ? she growed up real nice. It won’t be like last time”
” son, you just can’t be around women boy, remember what happened last time, i had to bury 3 girls that night” *cue mortician song*

    • Kevin Nash and Friends

Can she stop being so attractive? It makes me want to have a three way with her and Torrie Wilson.

      • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

my neighbors daughter came home from university and looks a LOT like taylor. FUCK, if only i were 25 years younger or a millionaire i might have a shot. I wish i could engineer one of those fake attacks where a person gets a friend to pretend to attack a girl and then i would come to her rescue. That always seems to work in movies. Or i could see if she can sing and put her on the road as the Tailyr Momsin Experience.

        • Kevin Nash and Friends

I don’t know anybody who looks like Taylor Momsen, but I do have a lot of attractive female friends. My friend Sam who I had a thing for and still somewhat do is probably the most beautiful woman I have ever met. Her friend Allie is also very attractive, as well as my friend Michele who I went to my senior prom with and my friend Alyssa who got me a free tuxedo for prom because she worked at Men’s Wearhouse.

  • Gorgasm

Damn, this is some tight shit.
Those clean vocals are fucking amazing.

I will keep my grotesque, mutilated eyes on these fuckers.

  • Max

First time listening to Black Crown Initiate. I approve, so far. Although I get a little tentative at the clean vocals, I then get used to them in the context of the passage they’re used for. That’s usually a good sign.

  • Holy. Shit.

  • acid_brainflux

The walls are breathing heavily as the speakers sway to the melody. My mind ventures to a place that I have never been, one from which I do not want to leave.

  • Kevin Nash and Friends

I have a confession to make. My favorite album of all time is not a metal album. My favorite album of all time is Station To Station by David Bowie. I have loved the album since it came out in 1976 and I have listened to it countless amounts of times. I saw David Bowie on the tour for the album at the Nassau Coliseum and I saw him on every subsequent tour he went on, even his Glass Spider tour which was for an album that sucked. I worship David Bowie and this album is the best David Bowie album. Yes, this album is better than Ziggy Stardust, better than his Berlin trilogy, better than Aladdin Sane and better than every other album by him. Long live the Thin White Duke, throwing darts in lover’s eyes!

  • JWG

Well. This just sold me on going over to Vancouver later this month.

I was mostly there already, due to Archspire.

  • Finally listened. Holy shit. Must buy.

  • Dental_Damnation

These guys sound like they’re trying to fit right into that void Opeth left before Heritage. Smart move, I’m in!
