RETOX and WHORES To Tour North America

Retox and Whores, two of the most engaging live acts in heavy music, will be touring North America together in February and March.

Retox features famed weirdo Justin Pearson (The Locust, All Leather, many others) on vocals and a grip of West Coast hardcore dudes on strings and drums. The resulting sound is a befitting mixture of old-skool hardcore punk and raunchy noise, as if Botch attempted to ghostwrite Black Flag songs. This is why their previous tours with bands as diverse as Dillinger Escape Plan, OFF!, and Tomahawk all make perfect sense. Hearing a band with such a strong understanding of hardcore’s roots utilize 21st century skronk and delay pedals so effectively is a refreshing reminder that “keeping up with the times” doesn’t have to mean abandoning what you love.

A Whores performance is the most fun you’ll ever have a noise rock show. You will shake your ass, stomp your feet, and feel alive. You will revel in gluttony and leave the venue ready to declare the streets your own. As heavy as this band is, you can’t possibly be angry while listening to them because it’s just too much fucking FUN. Highly recommended if you like guitars or have ever heard a Melvins song.

Hessian without looking at a calendar first, I hope that Mpls date is on a Friday or a Saturday!

    • HessianHunter

It’s a Sunday, the partiest day of the week that is also the Lord’s Day.

      • Edward #negrod4eva

After consulting my calendar, here’s hoping I don’t have an early day the following Monday!

        • HessianHunter

Just realized that Punch Brothers is the same night in MPLS. I have some meditating to do.

Quiet contemplation is the best method for figuring out these sort of quandaries.

          • VVorld Peace

            I prefer reading tea leaves.

          • Edward #negrod4eva

I like a hot cup of tea with a dash of milk.

          • KJM

I prefer swearing copiously for at least 5-10 minutes, then sitting down to decide, then swearing a lot more.

I once had to decide between Rush and Tool who were playing the Boston area on the same night so I have experience with this.

          • Edward #negrod4eva

            What did you decide?

          • KJM

I went with Rush since it was just a 15 minute bus ride away. Tool would’ve been a bus ride then a commuter rail trip.

When I got to the Rush show, I noticed 2 things. One: They closed off the balcony section for lack of sales which doesn’t normally happen with Rush(in 2010 the same arena was 90% full). Two: There was nobody and I mean nobody there under 30. All their younger fanbase was at Tool.

          • I would’ve gone to Rush also. I like Tool but Rush is something else, plus Tool is much younger and will probably still be touring once Rush calls it quits.

          • KJM

Actually I’m thinking if(and that’s a big if because of the legal crap) the new Tool disc comes out next year, it will be their last. I’m guessing Rush is good for at least one more disc and tour, maybe even two, before they retire.

Oh, and to add some context to my story, this took place in October 2002. At present, Rush & Tool are tied for band I’ve seen the most(10 times each).

          • Justin Nowlin

Since I’m so young I’ve never gotten into Rush. I appreciate them as an influence. I’ve tried countless times to get into it, but it’s just not for me. As for tool, they’re one of my favorite bands and have been since I was 7 or 8. Maynard is one of the most incredible frontmen ever. I’d love to see them live. I usually have to drive about an hour and a half away from my small town. Usually San Francisco or Sacramento is where I have to go. Last time tool was in my area, tickets started at $125. Next time they’re near I hope I either have that kind of money or prices substantially drop.

          • BLVKKBEVRD’S WVNDERLVST

All you have to do is start listening to Coheed & Cambria. Modern day Rush.

          • Justin Nowlin

I don’t like Coheed and Cambria. I’ve seen them live 3 times. Two time were when they opened for Slipknot and Trivium. I think they’re very good, it’s just not for me.

          • BLVKKBEVRD’S WVNDERLVST

Co&Ca opening for Slipknot and Trivium? Can’t imagine having to pay that much money for a ticket to have to leave after the opening act.

          • Justin Nowlin

I loved it! It was 2008 or 2009. So Trivium only had three releases, and I got to see the original nine Slipknot members. The music industry was in a fairly good state at the time so Slipknot soldout the venue. Totally rocked my 12 year old life.

          • you’re a LOL factory BTW

          • BLVKKBEVRD’S WVNDERLVST

            THANKS jimmy I APPRECIATE it

          • VVorld Peace

I’ve only seen them once out in Albuquerque, but it was an amazing show.

          • Justin Nowlin

I’ve heard nothing but good things. I’ve heard rumors that they might do Mayhem this year. I go every year regardless of who’s playing, but if tool were to play I’d be a very happy lad.

          • VVorld Peace

I went to Mayhem three years in a row but missed the last two because I was on my honeymoon last year and this year sucked.

          • Justin Nowlin

This years lineup was weak. A7X’s production was cool, but not really my taste in music. Trivium was the only main stage band I liked. The bands I enjoyed the most were bands I didn’t think I’d like. Those bands were Body Count and Miss May I. Everything else was either mehhhh, or just bad. Hoping this year they can step up and get a stong European band like Behemoth, Opeth, In Flames, etc.

          • KJM

You might like Rush’s 70s stuff since it’s a lot heavier with more guitar.

$125? Damn. I saw Tool back in 2012 and tix started at $45. I’ve never paid more than $60 for a show.

          • Justin Nowlin

For a metal show the most I’ve spent is around $50. But my girlfriend hates metal (which I understand because metal isn’t for everybody.) so for her birthday I bought her tickets to see Katy Perry. They were “pit” tickets and I had to pay $170 for each ticket. It was painful, but it made her happy so that was cool.

          • i would fucking see Katy Perry live >>>>>>>>>>>>>

          • Justin Nowlin

Dude, she has the best production I’ve ever seen. She also knows how to write the catchiest hooks ever. And let’s not forget how beautiful she is.

          • agreed. (can’t take credit for the pic tho, it was somebody from FB)

          • we’re going to get you into Rush.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZekrhML4frI

          • Justin Nowlin

I don’t dislike them at all. The other day I listened to their whole discography. It’s good but just not my taste. Neil Peart drumming is an absolute machine.

          • you chose (not) poorly

          • Pagliacci is Krampvs

I like a hot cup of lapsang souchong with a dash of Tengger Cavalry.

  • VVorld Peace

    New Locust album, pls.

    • album of nothing but doom covers plox

      • VVorld Peace

        I could dig that. Seriously.

        • Guacamole Jim

          Perma thumbs-up for Zim.

        • Stockhausen

          Zim is my jam.

          • VVorld Peace

Too bad it’s also the jam of angsty teenage goth girls everywhere.

          • Teenagers really do ruin EVERYTHING.

          • Stockhausen

Truly, truly I say to you, that is true.

          • Guacamole Jim

            Verily verily yea.

          • Stockhausen

I know, that kills me. It’s far too brutal of a show for their Paramore brains to grasp, and so they must pose.

          • VVorld Peace

hi every1 im new!!!!!!! holds up spork my name is katy but u can call me t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m!!!!!!!! lol…as u can see im very random!!!! thats why i came here, 2 meet random ppl like me _… im 13 years old (im mature 4 my age tho!!) i like 2 watch invader zim w/ my girlfreind (im bi if u dont like it deal w/it) its our favorite tv show!!! bcuz its SOOOO random!!!! shes random 2 of course but i want 2 meet more random ppl =) like they say the more the merrier!!!! lol…neways i hope 2 make alot of freinds here so give me lots of commentses!!!!

WHAT SORT OF SORCERY ALLOWS SUCH FIENDISH INVOCATIONS, NECRO DUB??

          • like they ruined Daria… *shivers*

          • tbf, i’m pretty sure they were the inspiration for Daria

          • KJM

Yeah, but Daria and Jane were cool.

          • KJM

I would totally see this movie.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBQXugKu8L4

          • BLVKKBEVRD’S WVNDERLVST

Would totally fap to this movie.

          • of course it was a good satire of they, but in Latin América we got now a bunch of wannabe middle class girls that want to portray an image of cynical/social awkard that isn’t belong to they, because they live in a good house with nothing to worry and they get a false hope that they’re trendy because they know NOTHING about ANYTHING lol

          • We have those all over America, too.

          • VVorld Peace

            Did he just describe hipsters?

          • grrrrr *shivers in rage*

          • Gvrp

Doesn’t the creator hate his fans?

          • VVorld Peace

            I would.

          • DoYouThinkHeSaurus

            Small versions of adults, honey…

          • I don’t see the distinction?

          • BLVKKBEVRD’S WVNDERLVST

OT: C, thank you for turning me on to this Musk Ox album.

          • It is the rambamjam.

  • Mr. Bojangles

    Who?

  • Looks like I’ve got Valentines day plans!
    /sobs

  • KJM

I saw The Locust open for Fantomas back in 2005. One word: NOISY.

    • VVorld Peace

Holy crap. That sounds like a helluva show.

      • KJM

        It was.

  • Stockhausen

I get super pumped when I see TX, because if the stars align and I’ve been a good dead composer all year, I’ll see OK a couple dates later. F U stars.

    • Guacamole Jim

That’s how I feel every time I see “North American Tour!”

….and then they go from Vancouver to Montreal.

      • Edward #negrod4eva

… next time, be like listen up you fuckers, Glock Jim is coming for ya.

        • GLOCK JIM BE LIKE BLAOW BLAOW

          • Edward #negrod4eva

          • Edward #negrod4eva

            It definitely is.

          • Guacamole Jim

It’s House before he was House.

          • Nordling Rites Ov Karhu

Pre-built House is the best House

          • VVorld Peace

            The only House is House.

      • Stockhausen

You probably have it worse than me. When my band tours Canada someday, we’ll play your living room. And that’s a promise that you can count on, even when you don’t want us to and tell us to please get out of your house.

        • Guacamole Jim

“This dead German composer is rotting all over our living room!”

          Actually, that’s pretty metal.

        • will fly to Canada for this / 10

  • VVorld Peace
