Pure Fucking Armageddon

It’s time to deliver the Satan, the evil, the hate, the goddamn METAL in this toilet. I’ve been away for a long time from the writing process of this site, but I’m back to achieve this goal! MORE GODDAMN GRIMNESS AND SATAN I SAY!!! I can’t wait for you all to hate what I post here, but please don’t feel the need to say “Good job” or do nice things just because you feel it’s right or because others pressure you to do so. Fuck that! Say what you want, it’s an Open Swim.

Howard Dean report some awesome metal news that we all need to hear about, GL post a video of a band that probably sucks, KSOFM post a great fucking band I have never heard before, Christian show me some fucked up band/project that needs to be heard about, Masterlord post some nerdy black metal I never heard of before, W. Post some grind that I never heard of before that I may or may not like, Joe post some great folk or female song writer I’ve never heard of before.  This can be an open swim for all I fucking care; because honestly I don’t care, discuss what you want, discuss other metal, discuss movies, discuss whatever. There are no restrictions in the comment sections for my posts.

Also, here are some albums from 2015 that I like.

GoatbloodAdoration of Blasphemy and War (2015)

Hailing from Germany this duo play some of the filthiest black/war metal there is. Listening to this disgusting 666 beast of blasphemy reminds me a lot of of early days of Beherit and Sarcófago, and the current days of modern war metal acts like Black Witchery and Revenge. The guitars are a buzz saw of menacing chaos while the percussion is a unrelenting blast of fury which is guiding and marching Satan’s vile army through a valley of trapped souls that are begging to be saved, crumbling them and leaving them with no savior. Vocals are destructive and barked into a bleeding moonlit sky echoing in hateful blackness to the lord of war. Goatblood went into this album with one thing in mind which was to make a completely ferocious and blasphemous album that leaves you completely crushed by the fist of Satan. Prepare for total fucking chaos and death.

Black Candle RitualPassages Of Black Devotion (2015)

This is raw black metal done right folks, learn from this demon known as Revenant hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma who brings the erie yet menacing riffs and also delivers some of the best black metal vocals around. The vocals remind me of one of my favorite black metals vocalist of all time, Hat from Gorgoroth. Hat only really did one full length album with Gorgoroth which was the classic Pentagram which stands still as one of my all time favorite black metal albums especially for the vocals alone. Production is raw but also very clear. The vocals and guitar are prominent leaving the drums as the only aspect of the mix to be fuzzy and less comprehensible. I’m more than certain that the drums are a drum machine, but it works well enough in the mix to not really matter. There honestly is nothing here I can complain about, aside from the fake drums. The riffs are great, the vocals are incredible, and the songs are magnificent. If you want some great raw black metal look no further.

OccultusNuctemeron (2015)

Spoiler alert! AOTY material for me and it’s because Occultus simply do not fuck around. This is some of the meanest blackened death I’ve heard this year and I crave goddamn mean metal. What’s great about Nuctemeron is that it never really lets up. It can be a 666 ton freight train crushing everything in its path like a juggernaut or it can be a mid tempo bruising machine, fisting posers to death until they are pounded into anal corpse mush. The drums are straight forward blasting and double bass most of the time while also allowing some interesting breaks and patterns, but for the most part it’s tight unrelenting blasting which I can never complain about. Guitars are crushing but allow for some really unique riffs and dissonance which adds some really scary moments to the album. Vocals are great by blending really high pitched screams and really low pitched grunts and growls. This album is a fucking monster and it will never show any kind of mercy upon thee.

AntinomianNihilum Infandum (2015)

I saved this one for last because it’s the hardest album to write about due to how unique and long it is. This album consists of 4 songs in just over 40 minutes, so that alone is something. Antinomian is another one piece black metal project that plays a very haunting, dissonant, and mid-paced style of black metal. There are some faster sections but the album is a mostly plodding in a unique and captivating way. Song structures are brilliant, flowing very nicely adding suspense and explosions at the same time. Guitars are very frighting and dissonant as I said while vocals vary from really sharp piecing shrieks to the average sounding black metal barks and growls. This album is a frightening and trippy nightmare into the black abyss. Don’t miss out on this hellish ride. Oh and also, the last song Intergenesis Of Chaos And Void is scary as fuck and also the best song on the album.

This post reminded me of two bands at different ends of the spectrum:

    Villains
    https://nuclearwarnowproductions.bandcamp.com/album/road-to-ruin

    Forrest of the Soul
    http://bindrunerecordings.bandcamp.com/album/restless-in-flight

    Enjoy!!

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I remember discovering and checking out Villains a little while back. I have both of their albums. Cool band! I have never seen anyone bring them up before.

      • Guppusmaximus

Yea, they have this Black Metal meets Mercyful Fate vibe. While I would love to hear “Road to Ruins” with better production, I feel it would lose something in the process. Maybe if someone just choose better equipment like mics & stuff…. who knows. Anyways, yea they are great.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I think I discovered them when I was getting into stuff like Raspberry Bulbs. You know, stuff that is billed as black metal meets punk which oftentimes doesn’t really sound like its advertised. They’re another decent band.

          Refresh for image!

          • Guppusmaximus

I definitely prefer the melodic foundation that Villains chooses over , say, traditional “Black Metal”. They have a groove…good stuff. I still wish the recording was better for car / stereo purposes.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Somewhat related (or maybe not), Leviathan’s Scar Sighted sounds horrible in my car. Sounds great on my home stereo, great in headphones, and utterly awful in my car.

          • Guppusmaximus

Well that album sounds like it was actually produced instead of just recorded, so, unfortunately it may be a hint that your car system… sucks? (no offense)

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

None taken! It’s a stock system in a 2006 Pontiac.

A lot of metal I listen to in there sounds fine / good so I didn’t know why there was such a big difference there.

          • Guppusmaximus

This is just from crappy sony headphones but that mix sounds a tad bit bass heavy. Do you notice any audible distortion at loud volumes between this and say the other Metal albums you listen to. Plus, a lot of older Metal albums were more Treble laden…

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I get a little bit of static sometimes but it’s from playing my iPod through a Soundfly transmitter through my radio. I just jimmy the cords and it works out. I might try messing with the sound (bass/treble) a little bit the next time I have to take a lengthy drive!

          • Guppusmaximus

Hmmm… that’s definitely weird. Do you have a cassette player in that head-unit? If so, connect your iPhone using a cassette adapter. You would have a better audible experience overall with less tweaking of the equalizer… just my .02

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

No cassette deck. I have a CD player, but it quit working and I wasn’t willing to shell out the dough to fix it. That was pretty much the start of my digital only music listening, since the only CD player I still have is my laptop (which is connected to the internet).

          • Dagon

Raspberry bulbs were on my spotify recs.

    • i bought a shirt (and donated) to NWN a few weeks ago, and he sent me that Villains CD for free!

        • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I’m not really an expert on them. I like most of their big songs. I thought The Doors by Oliver Stone was a trill ass film. Dude died young, I guess mostly from booze which is sad and impressive at the same time.

          • Scrimm

I’ll give them a listen. I like almost all the big jazz rock bands from the US even though the good ones disbanded quickly like Electric Flag and BS&T and Chicago sold out to balladry. I think you’d enjoy this.

I love that song ‘Go Down Gamblin’.

          • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I enjoy all eras of their music. It’s a shame that they have no original members even though they’re all alive. They’ve turned it into a corporation. I wouldn’t see them live because of that.

          • StudmanGetYourPull666_69

Ray Manzerek died recently, so half of the band is dead anyway.

          • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

I was saying that BS&T has no original members even though they’re all alive from what I know. The drummer runs it as a business with a revolving lineup.

            OH!!!!!

          • Ahmed Johnson The Reef Eater

Severely overrated, but they had a couple of good songs. And The Doors movie was hilariously bad, and another reason I can’t take Val Kilmer seriously. He made Jim seem more like Zoolander if anything, and it’s the most duck facey movie ever created.

Great post, Tyree! Awesome coverage of some kickass metal.

I contacted the label about the Occultus CD release that was planned, and he said they wouldn’t be pressing it. But apparently Dybbuk Records out of Russia will be pressing it instead. No ETA yet. Hoping it’s sooner than later. I want that album.

Currently excited for the new Cultes Des Ghoules EP that’s getting released next month. I’ve listened to Haxan, Spectres over Transylvania, and Henbane in the last few days to sate my appetite for new CdG.

    • Tyree

Glad I could deliver some goods to the Satan fiends out there.

Sick dude, I hope they get that Occultus on CD soon for you man. The album rips so hard, I’m listening to it now actually. I can’t get enough of it.

Shit, I didn’t know there was a new Cultes des Ghoules release on the way. Looking that up now.

      • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

Yeah, I was super excited to see the news about the new Cultes Des Ghoules EP, titled “Rise of Lucifer.” Apparently there was talk a few months ago about a new album this year (tentatively titled “Coven”), but I think it’s been shelved for now. Oh well. I’m happy with an EP.

Have you listened to the new Sect Pig album Self Reversed? I just got that in from NWN! about a week ago (along with that new Chaos Echoes album and a couple semi-rare NSBM records they had in stock), and it’s pretty killer. Ugly, violent, grindy, primitive filth. I wasn’t a fan of all the samples at first, but after a few listens they started to fit with the music better. If you haven’t heard it yet, I would recommend it. I think it’ll be right up your alley.

        • Tyree

Yes! I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for that release.

I couldn’t find much on the Sect Pig 2015 release. Found the 2013 release though and it kicks ass! It’s like a more grindy sounding Revenge. I’m really digging it, especially those vocals!

Edit: The guitar leads are eerie as fuck.

          • Tyree
          • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

Not sure if a stream of the new Sect Pig is available anywhere. Nuclear War Now! has the new album on CD right now for $7. I don’t think it’s been pressed to vinyl yet, but it will be, soon, most likely. Sect Pig’s previous album/EP, Slave Destroyed, was a vinyl and CD release.

A more grindy Revenge is a perfect descriptor. They’re like an ultra primitive combo of Revenge, VON, and a dash of crustiness. Works well for me. And yes, those vocals are ridiculous and awesome!

Also: Have fun at Deathfest! Byaaaaaaahhhh!!

          • Tyree

Thanks man! I’m looking forward to it, I’m leaving tomorrow morning. The first day is all brutal death metal and doom. Should be interesting. I’ll let you know how Devourment is.

Found the new Sect Pig on the Nuclear War Now Bandcamp page.

          • Zeke

I guess I’m out of the loop with the brutal dm shit, but I had no idea devourment were still together. my friend used to have a sick video from one of their shows; when the guitarists would grind their fingers just looked like a blur. I think by the time they recorded their full length it was almost all different members though.
I’m sure they’ll be fun to see

          • Tyree

I think it’s one original member now.

          • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

I have a soft spot/guilty pleasure for brutal death metal and slam. It’s never been my go-to subgenre, and I listen to far more regular DM, OSDM, and black metal, but every once in awhile I have a few weeks where BDM really hits the spot. Hmm. I might just have to listen to some Vulvectomy tomorrow…

Devourment is an old favorite of mine. Should be interesting to see them with their recent lineup changes. Their longtime vocalist Mike Majewski left the band a few months ago and guitarist/original vocalist Ruben Rosas took over vocals. Ruben’s vocals on Molesting the Decapitated were so fucking brutal. Hopefully it’s a good slam-filled show! Their live pro footage on YouTube from Mountains of Death a few years ago is awesome.

          • Tyree

Yeah, the line-up is fucked but it should be really brutal. But, yes Molesting the Decapitated is incredible. Especially the vocals.

          • Scrimm

Same. I got hit by a big phase late last year.

          • Zeke

I came up in the late 90s ny dm scene, so I was all about the slammy shit when I was younger. I get really bored with it nowadays though. I remember reading an interview once where bill steer called carcass “angry young man music.” I don’t think I’d agree with him on that, but I think that sort of thing might have a bit to do with why I’m not so into the slammy dm anymore.
every now and then i’ll still bump pyrexia or old deeds of flesh, but those bands always had a bit more going on with it anyway

          • Zeke
          • Scrimm

yeah I have to be in the right mood for it.

          • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

I actually just bought the reissue of Pyrexia’s Sermon of Mockery. I’ve always liked that album, but never wanted to pay $80+ dollars for the CD. I was super pumped to see that reissue! Between that and the reissue of Obscura, it’s been a great year for represses.

          • Zeke

Sermon is an absolute classic in my neck of the woods! The drums sound so angry when they grind.

About a month ago I was looking for Hatred, Anger, and Disgust on iTunes but they didn’t have it. I just have a copy of that album on tape which is useless since I don’t have a tape player in my apartment or in my car. I was pissed because I was really in the mood to listen to it and the whole EP isn’t even on YouTube; only the first song is posted.

          • Scrimm

I chose something over that pyrexia at the record store and when I went back for it it was gone.

          • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

Damn. I hate when that happens. It’s still available online if you want to pick it up.

          • Scrimm

            I probably will.

          • Zeke

was molesting decapitated the first full length? I remember when that came out my friends and I all lost our shit with those 808 drops at the slams. we had never heard anything like that before

          • Tyree

            Yes, it was the first.

          • “FUCK OFF!” -Howard Dean

Yeah, that was the debut. Super sick cover art of some fat naked dude with his head cut off. That album slams so hard.

          • Zeke

That album was great. I remember liking the three song demo more though. Yup, I was THAT asshole.

  • StudmanGetYourPull666_69

Lol, that second paragraph made me think of:

Before anyone asks, this guy is KJU.

      • StudmanGetYourPull666_69

Lol, everyone seems to have figured that out so far.

        • Maik Beninton

I haven’t seen a comment with that handle.

          • StudmanGetYourPull666_69

Look at some of my old replies to your stuff. It’ll show up.

Random Happy Thing: have another picture of my sister’s kitten. Her house renovations are still ongoing, so Pele continues to live with me (and Thor, who is less enthusiastic) as long as it’s unsafe to leave her in an unfinished home while my sister is off at work.

At this rate I may have another totally Good-thing-heavy #FlushItFriday

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

You also have a cat named Thor? My cat’s name is Thor. I didn’t pick his name but still.

      • JW(E)G

        Same.
Thor was actually an acronym (T.H.O.R.) given to him by the SPCA. Nobody could remember exactly what it stood for, but he didn’t answer to anything else. So I just stuck with it.

Good shit! That Occultus is perfect post-work (or at least semi-post-work) material.

In other news, who else has been streaming the bejeezus out of that new Cattle Decap song? Thing rips.

    Where is GSOFM?

  • 365chaosriddendays

I continue my incursion in the past checking older posts because being a newcomer here, obviously there is music that I left behind and worthy to be considered and I did the right thing, your tastes in Black Metal are delicious, basically all the bands in this gathering.
