Do you like Natasha, but don’t care for the rest of the PxDx discography? Do you want to see Pig Destroyer live?  Well have I got good news for you.

PigDestroyer have announced on their Facebook page that Mass & Volume will be released on limited edition CD and vinyl. Only 2000 CD copies will be pressed, and vinyl will be even more limited (no number as of yet, but there will be 3 different colors.) Arik Roper of Sleep/High On Fire fame has provided the artwork, as seen above.

Tentative release date is set for 10/10/2014 in Germany/Benelux/Finland, most of the world on 10/13/2014, and 10/14/2014 in the Americas.

Pig Destroyer have also announced two shows, including their “FIRST SHOW EVER in Boston,” with Dropdead.  Dates are listed below, tickets go on sale at 10 AM 8/22/2014.  Keep an eye on PxDx’s FB page for more details on purchasing tickets.

  • Dec 19 – Boston at Brighton Music Hall w/ Dropdead and Hivesmasher
  • Dec 20 – Philly at First Unitarian Church w/ Dropdead and more TBA

What do you think? Best thing ever? Worst thing ever? I’m thrilled to see Pig Destroyer returning to their horribly dark and twisted doom side again, and am excited to hear what they’ve prepared to unleash upon us.

EDIT – As Christian pointed out, this isn’t a “new” release per se. The songs were initially released online last year.

Finally Finland gets something before the rest of Europe.

  • Randall Thor
  • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Everyone should return to their horribly dark and twisted doom side. Except Stephen O’Malley who should move into dream pop.

    • Howard Dean

I was thinking Greg Anderson should start a synthwave/synthpop side project, too.

      • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

        Smart thinking!

  • Christian Molenaar

I hate to be that guy (me), buuuuuuut technically it’s not a “new” EP. It came out over a year ago.

    • well shiiiiiit

      • W.

        Ninja edit?

        • Negrodamus

          TIGER STYLE

      • W.

        Props for the edit!

    • W.

It was a benefit EP, right?

      • Christian Molenaar

Yeah, for the late Pat Egan’s daughter.

    • Randall Thor

Thanks for that! I don’t really follow PxDx and assumed it was new because of the post on their page. Re-reading their post, the language they use kind of implies that they are releasing it for the first time, even though it is not explicitly stated. Of course, anyone who follows them or pays attention would know that it’s been on bandcamp already.

    • Negrodamus

Christian Molenaar, most heavily referenced member of the ToH team.

    • Bert Banana

And if I’m not mistaken…The title track was written during/just after Natasha.

  • Tyree

Isn’t Agoraphobic Nosebleed doing a doom metal album with Kat?

    • yep. iirc, there will be 3 new albums.

      • Tyree

        That’s right, Fucking sick!

      • W.

        I thought they announced 4.

        • Tyree

          The more the merrier.

        • Christian Molenaar

It is 4, one by each member.

      • Stockhausen

I know ai should get into them, but every time I try, I hear Axl in my ear saying “Scott Hull is the best drummer. Scott Hull is the best drummer. Scott Hull is the best drummer.”

        • W.

          Just ssshhhh him.

    • Scrimm

Kat was a great addition to ANB. looking forward to those albums.

      • Tyree
        • Howard Dean

I literally just bought this album about a month ago. Tossed it into a decent sized order from Profound Lore because it was only like $5.00. Good shit! Also: We’ve said it before, but our taste in metal is so close it’s almost scary.

          • Tyree

Ha, I know it. I got a post coming up soon today. Hopefully you’ll dig some of the bands on it.

          • Howard Dean

Nice. Looking forward to reading it!

          • Tyree

I don’t know about a good read but hopefully a good listen.

        • Scrimm

Yeah this is good. The record store up the street from me has had a used copy for a long time, I keep meaning to pick it up but there’s just too much stuff there.

          • Howard Dean

I know that feeling. You see something you want, but keep passing it up because you’re only going to spend a certain amount, and there are so many other things you want. You keep going back, that item keeps sitting in its same spot, unmoved, and you keep thinking about buying, saying this is the time I pick it up, but you don’t. You become lulled into this cycle. You know you’re going to buy it one day, when there is finally a dearth of good stuff at the store. I’ve been there before.

And then one day you go in, and it’s not there.

And then you weep and punch the air like Samir in Office Space.

          • Tyree

I hate when that happens! It’s the same way with online shopping too.

          • Scrimm

EXACTLY!! Every single time I decide to finally go get it it is gone. Yet somehow I never learn.

          • Stockhausen

You guys have way cooler record stores than me.

          • Scrimm

Stupid ass phone I didn’t mean to downvote that. Having a good record store like that is a double edged sword.

  • Metaphysical Anus

Okay, I saw the postal fee. Not gonna get it.

  • Not Vincent Bennett

Am I the only person on earth that doesn’t like Pig Destroyer? I really don’t get the hype of why they’re so good.

    • W.

Have you listened to Prowler in the Yard or Natasha?

      • Not Vincent Bennett

I have tried listening to all their stuff. I just don’t like it.

        • Randall Thor

I only like Prowler and Natasha, so I kind of feel you

          • W.

            Those are the best, though.

      • Occams_Razor_Ramon

My favorite is Phantom Limb and I don’t think I have ever heard anyone mention that as their go to PD album before

        • Phantom Limb is my least favorite of all the PD stuff. It’s still 0/5 flushes, but if I HAVE to pick one to like the least, that’s it. Sorry Ramon.

          • Occams_Razor_Ramon

Maybe I just have a soft spot for it because Girl in the Slayer Jacket was the first song that gave me so many PxDx boners

          • Haha! I do love that song, although “Thought Crime Spree” and “The Machete Twins” are my go-to songs from Phantom Limb. I’m not hating on this record at all, mind you. PxDx can do no wrong. Hope we can still be friends!

          • Bert Banana

I have a soft spot for Phantom Limb because it’s what got me into PxDx…but once Book Burner came out and I started listening to Prowler and Terrifyer, it started to slide down on spins.

I felt Phantom kinda runs a little too long

        • i love Phantom Limb. very grindy

        • W.

Girl in the Slayer Jacket rips.

      • Bert Banana

        Don’t forget Terrifyer

In unrelated news, it appears as though we have lost our friends(?) Matt Damon (inactive for over a week) and Ace Ventura (inactive for over two weeks).

    • Matt Damon is among us. No idea who the hell Ace was tho.

      • Tyree

        It was Dan Marino.

        • Howard Dean

          Laces out, Dan!

      • It was probably bojangles.

      • Mother Shabubu III

        Death?

        • Lord Ov Kapsko

          Holiday season…

    • In other unrelated news, I just found out that a barbeque place down the street from where I work was visited by the Devil himself, Guy Fieri. http://www.johnnysbbqkc.com/jbbq-aboutus.php

      • Howard Dean

Force the patrons out at gunpoint, douse the kitchen in accelerant, and burn that shit to the ground.

        • I know I can always depend on you to be the man with the plan, HD.

      • Brobeck’s BBQ really knocked my socks off last time I was in Kansas (though i see it’s in Overland Park).

        • I live in Overland Park, haha. There’s tons of quality BBQ around here. Oklahoma Joe’s, Jack Stack, Gates, Bates City BBQ, the list keeps going.

      • Bert Banana

Was the place overrun by Chickenfoot and Smash Mouth fans?

        • I haven’t gone there yet. Debating on whether eating barbeque is worth supporting a restaurant that has been endorsed by the frosted-tipped demon from my nightmares.

          • Bert Banana

I think the worst that can happen is you’ll develop an appreciation for Dad Rock

    • Paris Hilton is also MIA!

      GL

  • Just never got into Pig Destroyer.

I’m sure there will be many fights at the Boston show.

  • isn’t there also a band called puig destroyer?

  • Gorgasm

I don’t know how much longer my wallet will tolerate my love for the Toilet.

    • Lord Ov Kapsko

If you were sasha grey than your wallet would love the toilet as much as she had.

  • i like their grindcore material. why are they flirting with doom every now and then? what’s the link?

    • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

      Doom’s come hither eyes.

  • Mr.CustodialArts

Cool. I’ve been wanting to see these dudes since fat guy was skinny.

  • Slappy Koch

ANb at MDF 2015 AND Pig Destroyer in Philly??!? This has been a good week for announcements

  • George Clarke

okay so where can i listen to it?

  • TrickleDownTacoRiff

    Love all
Pig Destroyer! Adding a bass player makes me love Scott more. I didn’t think that was possible. No sarcasm either, I really feel this way!
