The weekend came and left in a jiff. Beyond many a hangover and betrayed diet in its forsaken path, there also shined a shiny demon bottle containing several enticing pieces of new information inside. More so if you like thrash metal. Or making fun of Dave Mustaine.

Legendary band Megadeth is in the studio right now working on their 15th studio album. They shared a brief video on 3/26 hinting at their new drummer, and now, the rumors have been confirmed. Lamb of God‘s drummer Chris Adler will be handling the kits for Super Collider‘s sucessor, to be recorded as a trio with Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson. Honestly, I have not jammed a Megadeth album or song in a good while, but this collaboration is something I can get behind. Considering how much Adler – and LoG in general – has professed his love for the thrash ensemble, I assume he will put his heart and soul in this project. Here’s what the man had to say:

MEGADETH was the game changer for me. Growing up, there was no other band that meant as much to my musical interest and direction. There is no doubt I would not be doing what I have been doing for the past three decades had I not stumbled across ‘Killing Is My Business’ and the bible of all metal, ‘Peace Sells’ in my formative years.

And Mustaine:

Chris is a tremendous talent, and an amazing person. He is going to bring a new level of excitement and energy to MEGADETH that the fans are going to lose their minds over. I have nothing but respect for my previous drummers, but this is going to absolutely KILL! Back in 1989, MEGADETH originally worked as a three piece – guitar, bass and drums – when we laid down the framework to our GRAMMY® nominated platinum album ‘Rust In Peace’. I want to thank the other members of LAMB OF GOD for allowing this opportunity to take place for all of us in the metal community.

You can read more about it by stabbing the band’s Facebook page.

Another Big Four band bringeth thy new new, Slayer. Bassist and vocalist Tom Araya sat down with Revolver and discussed details of their upcoming LP. He stated that the band was entering the final stages of mixing the record, a project which still lacks a name, a cover and song titles. What they do have is 13 recorded songs, featuring primarily Araya, Kerry King and drummer Paul BostaphGary Holt (Exodus) will be lending his chops to a couple of the songs. Here’s Tom on the record’s subject:

(…) the usual topics—conflict, confrontation, religion. It’s all about the social ills that dominate humankind. It’s a Slayer record, you know what I mean? It’s gonna be a really, really powerful record, so let everybody know!

To this humble fish (God), the most exciting news is that one of the tracks was recorded while Jeff Hanneman was still among us. It will probably mark the last work of his illustrious career. If not for anything else, Slayer’s upcoming album is one to look forward to. Stab here and read the whole piece.

I follow Behemoth‘s frontman Nergal on Instagram. His account is probably one of the best among metal peers – it’s just great to see the guy having a blast after overcoming Leukemia. Among backstage shots, fan tattoos and playing stare with Cannibal Corpse‘s George Fisher, he has shared two video clips of him in the studio recording what could be part of an upcoming solo album. It sounds nothing like the blackened death metal ov Behemoth and everything like the songs Gregory House would play at the end of an episode. Which is not bad at all in my book.

We gotta get out this place…!

Mortal Kombat X is going to reign glutes. Ramping up the excitement for the game release (April 14th) is an ad directed by System Of A Down‘s Shavo Odadjian. You might love SOAD, you might hate SOAD, but it is hard to argue that this is a pretty dank ad. Check it out by stabbing the YouTube video below:

Apparently the guys in Sevendust need no rest. Even though they released an acoustic album – Time Travelers & Bonfires – in 2014, word is out that they already completed recording a new album, this time without grandpa’s guitars. Maybe not completely without them. Just not focusing on them. You catch my drift. Stay tuned for more updates by liking the band’s Facebook page.

Sevendust will be playing at the Fiesta Oyster Bake in San Antonio (4/18) alongside Pop EvilNonpoint and P.O.D. Yes, that P.O.D. No other dates were mentioned.

Stacked tour alert! Dark Sermon, Entheos and Archspire (read their ToH interview) will all join forces in support of Fit For An Autopsy and Aborted for a big tour. Somewhere, somehow, a secret agent is fainting. Check out the dates below:

5/08 Albany, NY @ Trickshots
05/09 Brooklyn, NY @ St Vitus
05/10 Reading, PA @ The Reverb
05/11 Richmond, VA @ The Broadberry
05/12 Columbia, SC @ New Brookland Tavern
05/13 Atlanta, GA @ The Masquerade
05/14 Houston, TX @ Walters
05/15 Austin, TX @ Dirty Dog Bar
05/17 Kansas City, MO @ Riot Room
05/18 Colorado Springs, CO @ Black Sheep Cafe
05/19 Denver, CO @ Moon Room
05/20 Phoenix, AZ @ Joe’s Grotto
05/21 West Hollywood, CA @ The Whisky

06/03 Chicago, IL @ Reggie’s
06/04 Lakewood, OH @ The Foundry
06/05 Montreal, QC @ Foufounes Electriques
06/07 Rochester, NY @ Montage Music Hall

Unfortunately, not all is peachy with that camp, because someone robbed Dark Sermon’s van. Luckily, their equipment was not in it, so it won’t be impeditive to complete upcoming tour’s obligations.

The missing vehicle is a white 2000 Dodge Ram 3500. The license tag is 839 TEF. It was last seen at US19 and Sunset in Clearwater, FL.

We leave for a 2.5 month tour a week from today, as some of you know, so this is a very dire situation. We have filed a police report, and we believe we have security camera footage of the man who took it. If you could please SHARE this post on your Facebook and spread awareness about this incident, we might be able to catch the thief and maybe even get our van back.

I was alerted by fellow deity Bear God that one of the coolest Finn bands out there, Beastmilk, was no more. The reason behind this is the departure of guitarist Johan Nell. Consoling my poor immortal heart is news that instead of ending all activities, the remainder of the band will keep working under the name Grave Pleasures. New guitarman will be Juno Vanhanen from psychedelic black metal act Oranssi Pazuzu. Being an OP fanboy, I am very excited to hear what this addition will mean to Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures sonically. Work is currently under way for the new album, which will be produced by Tom Dalgety (whose production/mixing chops were employed by Killing JokeOpethRoyal Blood and others)

Go like their new Facebook page. Stab here.

This is it, for now. I will emerge soon with more news, new music or maybe even a list. I heard you humans like lists.

Laters on the menjay.

Wow: Lamb of God, present day Megadeth and Slayer, Sevendust, and video games– this is, huh… BLAH!

    • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

And before everyone gets butthurt: I’m not criticizing this article or the writing or our dear friend Dragon. Just the bands in the news.

      • KJM

I agree, and I love old Slayer.

        • Dr. Dubz

Yah, I’m not really looking forward to that Slayer album. Or the Megadeth one. 13 and Supercollider sucked, which is a shame because I liked Endgame.

          • KJM

No Dave or Jeff is a major deal breaker for me. Besides, I’ve seen Slayer 7 times.

      • Dagon

To be frankly, I am not that enthused by most of those. I am actually looking forward to new Beastmilk (now Grave Pleasures) more than anything else here.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

I appreciate your candor Fish God as well as your willingness to report news on shit you aren’t flipping out about, like a real metal blogger.

          • Dagon

Like I said in the Slayer blurb, the track with Hanneman on it is the only reason I am looking forward to the new album.

Not sure if “like a real metal blogger” is a good thing or not. But Dean’s comments made me think a bit about my news selection process.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Like a real metal blogger is certainly a positive comment. It’s opposed to someone like me – I mostly write about stuff that I fanboy the fuck out on, lol

          • Dagon

Fanboyism is the most appealing factor of metal blogging to me. It’s what made me a big fan of ToH in the first place. If it weren’t for the enthusiasm the writers here show for the bands they are writing on I wouldn’t be clicking half these links. I would also have written my thesis by now.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

No rush cause they’ll get there eventually

kind of like my career and mindstate mentally

I just realized that I have a chance to see Grave Pleasures live this summer. Yeah yeah!

    • MoshOff

      Me too!

  • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

Toilet confession: I like Lamb of God. And SOAD.

    • Sir Tapir the Based

I believe quite many like LoG here. I ain’t a big fan, but they have some good songs. Same goes for SOAD for me.

      • KJM

I saw SOAD/The Mars Volta back in 2005, excellent show.

        • Sir Tapir the Based

The Mars Volta is quite tasty.

          • KJM

Seen them 5 times, great show every time.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I unfortunately never saw them live.
            *cries*

        • Dr. Dubz

Did you check out Godzilla Black based on Mars Volta rec?

          • Guacamole Jim

            Is good; can verify.

          • KJM

Yes, pretty good if a bit more chaotic than I like.

      • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Damn. Some time during late winter, the based Tapir/Death/Anus got soft. A few haggard, bitter months ago, you would have punted yourself in the cvnt for saying something like that. #FreeTheAnus #BringBackMyGrumpyFinn

        • Sir Tapir the Based

Haha, maybe I’m not the same Finn. Maybe I kidnapped him and trapped him in a basement.
          *looks around nervously*

        • The Beargod

          I finally broke him.
          #FeelsGood

          • Sir Tapir the Based

If you had broken me, you would not be alive right now.

          • The Beargod

You make no sense, it’s the very reason of my prolonged stay.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

In the old writings it is told, that the one who breaks the Tapir will lose its life.

          • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

            That seems oddly specific.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

It sounds a lot more epic in Finnish.

          • Herr Schmitty

Don’t worry Tapir, I broke him myself. Now he has posters of hockey players like Tuukka Rask The Finnish God all over his bedroom. https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/378800000025560303/a4d6891d10e84ccf755bf1b365d3a240.png

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I feel like I should know who he is, but I don’t.

          • Herr Schmitty

He’s the goalie for the Finland National hockey team. He’s also the goalie for my favorite NHL team… and he’s also a client of the business I work at. All of the above!

            Tuukka Rask is based Rask.

        • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

That’s the destiny of every Finn: they start off beautifully and continously build up until they reach a critical point of complete awesomeness, at wich point the Curse sets in and they release Unia.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I may have missed that part where I was beautiful.

          • Shrimp in a Pizza Box

You were always beautiful, you just had to believe in yourself.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Believe in myself? That’s very un-Finnish.

          • Lacertilian

Sounds like something one of the Lost Boys would say in Peter Pan/Hook.

    • Herr Schmitty

Saw Megadeth live on Gigantour some years back, and they fucking killed it.

Dave is definitely still a giant dick.

I second LoG and SoaD as well.

      • KJM

Saw Megadeth twice in 1987 and again on Ozzfest 1998.
If I enjoy someones art I try to put their politics aside but damn, Dave makes it very hard to do so. LoG isn’t really my thing although Randy Blythe seems like a good enough guy.

      • Saw Megadeth last year. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

        • FYI. I totally changed my mind about seeing VH for 100 dolladollabills. It is going to be totally worth it!

        • Tyree

Saw them in Yankee Stadium a few years back. That Big 4 festival thingy.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Dude– you saw the Big Four in Yankee Stadium? That’s fucking awesome!

          • Tyree

Yup, I’ll never forget the moments that I remember from that drunken day.

          • Dr. Dubz

I saw Exodus, Testament, and Megadeth a while back here in town. I was of the opinion that Testament stole the show. it was that 20th anniversary of Rust in Peace tour.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

That’s a sweet lineup.! I’ve heard Testament are pretty sharp live.

          • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

I’m gonna say this as probably BMTH’s biggest defender on this site, Count Your Blessings is SHITE. That was your first mistake.
Their second album, Suicide Season is good (Well, half of it is at least), but things got great on There Is A Hell and Sempiternal in my opinion.

            And the flush occurs now.

          • Suicide Season is the one I own. I bought it right after it was released.

          • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

Oh. Well, looks like I’ve been flushed already.
Seriously tho, There Is A Hell and Sempiternal are much better than their first two, I’d say give them a listen.

Randall is doing well, can confirm. Just had to make the choice to stop lurking so much to focus on other things.

          • KJM

          • Don’t worry, I have been polishing my steel in anticipation of the great day when my glorious hordes of steel clad men shall ride over the hill, all unsheathing their steel in unison and shouting a great battle cry as they pierce the lines of the unclean false ones and shatter their bodies with mighty triumphant steel.

  • Dr. Dubz

Thanks for compiling the news, Dagonmeister.

  • Guacamole Jim

I totally dug Sevendust’s Black Out the Sun (and had never enjoyed anything of theirs before), so I’m kinda excited to see what the next release has to offer.

    • Herr Schmitty

Damn. I didn’t like Black Out the Sun very much, but liked much of their earlier catalogue, *especially* the albums that Sonny Mayo (ex-SNOT) played lead on.

      • Guacamole Jim

Wait, one of the Snot guys was in Sevendust? I may have to give that another go. And yeah, BOtS just really clicked with me for some reason – don’t really have a good reason why…

        • Herr Schmitty

Yup! Sonny was in the band for the albums ‘Next’ and ‘Alpha’… which are the most LOLButtz album names in their catalogue, but I also like Sonny’s guitar tone/style with Sevendust more than the original (and now returned) guitarist, Clint Lowery.

          • Guacamole Jim

Am listening right now. It’s not grabbing me in the same way BOtS did, but I can hear how it would grow on me.

  • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

I kinda love System of a Down and when I saw they were playing London I though Man, I gotta go, but then I saw that tickets were 43 quid and I thought well, that’s just obscene and not in a good way. In perspective, that’s more than tickets for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds recently, or for metal, more than a whole day festival.

    • The Beargod

The fuck? How the hell you get so chwap Cave? I’d love to see but it cost about 80 pieces of silver to get in.

      • Herr Schmitty

80 silver? Not a bad deal, wish I had paid that instead of ‘ole Lefty the Teste.

        • The Beargod

I’d do that. You’ve no idea how hard it is to find silver, let alone mine it.

          • Lacertilian

You should have bartered with shekels instead.

      • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

It might have been a bargain price. I didn’t actually go on account of being poor and generally useless.

        • The Beargod

Ah. I would go see Cave if I had enough money regardless of my monetary situation.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Like I said earlier, get a sugar daddy.

          • The Beargod

With these income rates, I prob have to.

          • I’ve never seen the Bad Seeds, but I did see Grinderman in Memphis. There was about 100 people there, and it was awesome. Warren Ellis is pretty metal even if the music isn’t.

      • Scrimm

I hope they bring back the Konquest mode. As much as I love the MK the fighting games just can’t entertain me for very long on their own. Still want it badly though. Looking forward to playing as Jason.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

I just picked up Bloodborne this week because of Jack Bauer and honestly this shit might be the end of me. I have played a lot since Sunday and just fought the first boss for the first time and got crushed. I’ve played it for hours already, lol

          Fucking Bloodborne.

          • Scrimm

I’ve been revisiting Dark Souls Since I can’t get Bloodborne, but I made the mistake of trying to pick up a game I already had in progress but left alone at least a year ago. Much harder that way. Dammit I want Bloodborne.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Start it from the beginning! I played Demon’s Souls, never beat it, and haven’t played either Dark Souls game.

          • Scrimm

I almost did restart but with a little help from a walkthough to help me get my bearings and a little practice I think I’m ok. I really didn’t want to restart since I spent a ton of time leveling way up to make all the fights a little easier.

          • God ov All

Loving it! Can’t wait till you get to the forbidden woods. Tone of the game shifts and shit gets WEIRD.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

After playing a ton since Sunday, I finally got the hang of things this evening. Beat the Cleric Beast, snuck up on that pig mini-boss, unlocked a gate shortcut after climbing this giant ladder, it was sweet lol

  • I don’t have high hopes for that Slayer album other than the Hanneman track. Kerry King’s magic fingers tend to turn things into poo.

    • MoshOff

      And Rick Rubin ensures it.

    • The Beargod

Seeing as Hanneman has been nothing good for a long time I’d be more interested in some Holt jams.

      • I would’ve liked to have seen that too but Kerry King thinks his shit don’t stink and should be the master songwriter.

You have good taste sir. Can’t exactly remember where I heard of Nod Nod (maybe Invisible Oranges?), but they’ve become a favorite of mine recently. Gotta love ’em.

          • Tyree

I think I read about them on CVLT Nation last year. Great album they put out and it’s pretty cheap on Bandcamp.

          • Óðhinn

Yes, CVLT Nation. That might have been it. I think you’re right. You have a good memory. Fantastic album.

          • Óðhinn

Have you ever heard these guys? I don’t know exactly how to describe them. A Swedish band with a doom stoner prog grunge sound.

        • Sir Tapir the Based

I assume you are enjoying Bloodborne?

          • Bloodborne is love Bloodborne is life, oh hey I died, bloodborne is love bloodborne is l-dead, this is the most metal game in existence

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I am enjoying it as well. I have managed to do surprisingly well seeing as I am bad at everything.

          • It easily the hardest of the souls games, I’ve died more than in ds1 and 2 combined

          • God ov All

I’m not saying this to be badass or anything, but I actually haven’t died a lot in bloodborne at all. But I died HUNDREDS of times in dark souls 1&2. I think it’s because I prefer being aggressive and rushing headfirst and bloodborne rewards that behavior. I beat dark beast Paarl first try by using the strategy “get under this fucker and just swing your bigass ax around. He only landed 2 hits on me. (And those were AOEs).

          • BLOODBEARDE

I think you may be right. Though, to be honest, I haven’t died in Bloodborne any more than I did when DkS2 came out (and BB is more demons souls difficulty). I haven’t done more than 3 attempts at any boss, all the same.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’ve managed to kill all three bosses I’ve faced on my first try.

          • BLOODBEARDE

Truly, I think Gasciogne might be the toughest boss I’ve fought. Its a tough second boss (or first boss).

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I barely won him. One hit and I would’ve died. Fuck that beast form.

          • BLOODBEARDE

Beast form earns you the extra insight, though. Also makes the fight slower. I think its just a decent introduction, makes you learn the system. Once reintroduced, I just started to run with it. Gun parry instead of weapon/shield parry. Instant GG.

          • God ov All

The bosses I beat first try are blood starved beast, darkbeast Paarl, the witches of Hemwick, and the shadow of yarnham.

          • Yea paarl is easy, wrecked him first try. Gehrman on the other hand…….

          • God ov All

German was a beast. (Lol pun intended) took me 8 tries. Most out of any boss so far.

          • ………8?……..:(

          • God ov All

Is that a lot? It’s probably a lot. I beat Amygdala on first try for My Sakes, I should be able to handle an old Hunter.

          • Gehrman has killed me 20 times. That stupid fucking scythe every time

          • God ov All

Parry man! Parrying is op in this game against humanoid enemies.

          • hard to time with him though

          • God ov All

True, I barely managed it because I fire exactly before his weapon hits me. Sometimes it still hit me and I just have to regain my health with the visceral attack.

          • I have no issues with him until he takes out that scythe and then its virtually impossible to avoid him

          • God ov All

Definitely stresses you out. Did you do the True ending?

          • I still havent beat the fucking fucker, Trying to summon help but no one is coming 🙁

          • God ov All

If I wasn’t already passed that part Id help you out!

          • I FUCKINGNG WIN

          • this is why i fucking hate doing strength builds

          • God ov All

What weapon you using? I had a +10 tonitrous.

          • I had the axe that you start with, was also +10. started a new game and im gonna focus on dexterity or skill or whatever

    • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

      That was mean.

      • Sir Tapir the Based

Yo, let’s team up and shank that motherfucker.

        • BLOODBEARDE

They allow you to have knives in funland?

          • Sir Tapir the Based

            Totta Mooses.

          • BLOODBEARDE

            Wtf does that mean

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Let that remain a mystery to you.

          • BLOODBEARDE

I think Moose is the plural, as well as the singular.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Mooses is in Finnish, you dingus. It means “Moses”. He’s a guy in Le Bibel.

          • BLOODBEARDE

            Never heard of it.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Le Bibel? It’s a funny story book.

          • BLOODBEARDE

            Sounds like crap.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

It’s not 10/10, but it has some funny moments.

          • BLOODBEARDE

Is it funnier in English or Finnish?

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I dunno, never read it through. I’ve read some parts in Finnish, but not too much. Never even tried it in Engelska.

          • BLOODBEARDE

Where you at in Bloodborne, bud?

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’m moving quite slowly. I’m about to go battle Vicar Amelia.

          • BLOODBEARDE

Dope boss fight. I’m moving slowly, too. I’m not all that far ahead of you.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’m really liking Ludwig’s Holy Blade.

          • BLOODBEARDE

I’ve somehow missed picking it up, progression wise. I’ve decked out my Stake Driver.

          • That sword >>>> I’m just a bit ahead of you right now as well. I’ve started doing some Chalice Dungeons.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Oooh, I managed to kill Vicar Amelia on my first try! I’m using all my luck early on. It was an epic battle.

          • Vicar Amelia was the first boss I killed on my first try, but I’m pretty sure I was overleveled for it.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Couple of my friends are stuck at Blood-starved Beast. I found him rather easy.

          • Dumptruck Full Of Nose Hair

You can drum all day long but if the riffs atop it are sub-par it will never be on my playlist.

          That’s a good question…

        • Lacertilian
