New music! New tour dates! New festivals!

Here is some important news that probably isn’t hitting a lot of radars. To be honest, this is all new to me as well, and translations are a bit sketchy. Lady Fast 2016 is an arts and music event held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It’s a female-centric free event full of workshops, art exhibits, zines, and live bands. The Indonesian music scene is an interesting mish-mash of metal, punk, and hardcore culture, fueled by an angry youth movement and a repressive, religious government. Here is a trailer for a documentary on women in that scene.

According to several reports, this small event was broken up by both religious fanatics and the police. Kolektif Betina, a supportive and empowering community of and for women, organized Lady Fast and spoke of the events that transpired. The BBC also covered what happened (apologies for the Google Translate errors). Kolektif Betina is still actively posting via social media, so it appears that things have settled down and returned to some sort of normalcy, but it brings to light the serious problems that women and youth still experience in certain countries.

Dysrythmia are currently touring Europe with Gorguts, Psycroptic, and Nero Di Marte. They’re performing new songs on the tour, one of which you can watch below. That’s good! The band also had a bunch of windows on their tour bus broken and had to miss a show to get it fixed. That’s bad! But it doesn’t look like anything was stolen and they’re back on the road. That’s good!

Finally, Wormed have released a new music video. No video breakdown needed. Enjoy!

  • COAL ROLL

I thought that was Gorguts bus that got broken into, no?

    • Probably a shared bus.

      • BobLoblaw

They are, Im pretty sure it was Psycroptic that posted the security photo of the asshole that did it.

  • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

I was at that show at The Dome! A bunch of new songs would explain why I failed to recognise any of them, good to know I’m not just an ignoramus.

  • YourLogicIsFlushed

Katatonia is as Katatonia does. Decent track. Can’t wait for that Kayo Dot, always very curious to see what strange new direction they are heading.

    • Stanley

      And Katatonia does good.

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

I’m all for new sounds and styles, but bands such as Maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot were always a bit too ‘artsy’ for me. If that makes sense.

      • YourLogicIsFlushed

I can understand that for sure. I tend to be dismissive of things that are a little to experimental, but Kayo always seems to nail it for me.

  • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Oh look, Gorguts’ new music sounds great.

    Quelle surprise!

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Oh look, Katatonia’s new song sounds great.

      Quelle surprise!

      • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

        Also…

Holy shit, that Obscene Extreme line-up.

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

          Also…

Holy shit, that Psycho Las Vegas line-up.

        • Oh look, another bomb-ass festival I can’t go to because it’s in another continent.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.

      • Hi Jack’s Complete Lack of Surprise, I’m Dad.

  • Stanley

I used to like a bit of DT but I lost a bit of interest after Character. They were great when I saw them live on that tour. This was always my favorite track.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjK21yKoS0Y

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

They’re probably my favorite out of the ‘Big 3’ Gothenburg melodeath bands. Though I don’t love all of their albums. The Gallery will forever be an epic win. Character and Fiction are great. Damage Done is very good. Their other albums I could take or leave.

      • Stanley

There were some good tunes on Fiction but there was also Misery’s Crown. Ouch.

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Oh yeah, I agree. That’s a VERY painful one.
Tracks like Terminus for instance are rippers though.

          • Stanley

Yep, that’s a good one. Also Lesser Faith and Focus Shift. I used to play DT in the gym all the time.

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

            Yep, definitely good workout music.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Never saw anything wrong with Misery’s Crown. Not one of their top tracks – but a regular one.

          • Good memories singing with my friends with that one.

        • brokensnow

Boooooo……one of my favorite tracks. super poppy.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

The Gallery has always been one of their weaker efforts for me, it’s the most brutal and fastest for sure, most death metal – but I think pretty much every album they released afterwards eclipses it.

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

The Gallery is one of those albums where a band just throws in every idea they have at the moment; which makes for a very hectic, almost disjointed sounding album.
Which, for some strange reason, I seem to dig in a lot of cases.

          Opinions…

    • I really like this song from their latest album. Not a fast one, but still good. Also, there’s a part that songs like the X-Men cartoon theme.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BolGeBNPK1w&nohtml5=False

      • The Science of Noise is another ripper. I love that album. Dark Tranquillity is one of my favorite bands of all time.

      • Stanley

I’ve not heard this song. I’ll check it out. What has always amazed me about Mikael Stanne is that although he has a hellish growl, I can pretty much hear all the lyrics.

        #DeathMetalPronounciation

    • 365ChaosRiddenDays

This album is great, this one is killer too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scs7R4S6nhY

  • Eliza

It’s good to hear how good the new Katatonia song is, it gives high hopes for the album. Also, finding out there’ll be a new Kayo Dot made my day.

  • Sir Tapir The Based

    Excited for new KAYYYYYLMAO Dot

Swans out with your Schwanz out

          To quote our dear friend:

          Schwanz – The Expanding Man

      • Sir Tapir The Based

I posted this yesterday. You didn’t care. I was sad.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus™

It may have been when I was at the dentist, didn’t see it!

          • Sir Tapir The Based

YOU’RE ALWAYS AT THE DENTIST, ED!

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

You only ever get one set of grown up choppers.

    • ayyy lmao
      (rfi)

      • saved

        • Your Gimme Something To Watch from yesterday was top notch, Joe. Like 15/10 top notch. I have read it three times.

          • Owlswald

When do you let us all see your D.A.R.E video GL?

          • Thanks GL!

        • It’s just perfect.

  • Guacamole Jim
  • Hubert

That Katatonia track is amazing. Love the lyric video.
Now let me get back to my Katatonia binge.

  • That Katatonia video was pretty unique. Not sure if the typewriter thing has been done before, but, that was pcoolio.

    GL

    • brokensnow

      good song too

  • Boss theSpeedMetalBastard Ross

Damn those fests look BAD ASS!!! I want to go to both of them.

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Don’t they? Those line-ups make me wanna spin Come My Fanatics, Dopesmoker, Relentless, Blessed Black Wings, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Red Album, You Fail Me, Agent Orange, Litany, Onward to Golgotha and Monolith of Inhumanity again.
That means I have a lot of spinning to do.

      • Boss theSpeedMetalBastard Ross

That sounds like a good day! Or you could spin albums from the OE lineup and listen to 20 albums by the time Dopesmoker would be over. HAHA!

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Hahaha! The OE line-up has Sodom, Vader, Incantation and Cattle Decapitation. Those bands all had one or more very worthwhile albums. The other bands on the OE line-up are more good live bands. Less interesting on tape, solid as hell live.

    • Janitor Jim Duggan

I want to go to Psycho Las Vegas really bad. Truth And Janey are on it.

  • I’d like to know what the hell Wormed was thinking with that music video.

    • Boss theSpeedMetalBastard Ross

      Camera shake.

  • I would love to go to OEF because you get to bands like this that you’ll never see in the states. This frontman is the best. He looks like JK Simmons singing for a grind band.
    http://youtu.be/my3TNlUAfD4

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

      JK Simmons >>>>>>

      • Funeral doom is not my fucking tempo!!!!!

        • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

          JoKe Simmons

  • I’m worried about the exit of Henriksson from Dark Tranquillity. He is one of the main songwriters of the band since Projector and he had a distinct style for the band. They still have Niklas and Brändstrom for the writing, but I feel that the band had a very particular chemistry in their writing that didn’t moved in all these years. I just hope for the best and I will wait with patience their upcoming record. Huge fan.

Katatonia… Man, I really need to listen to that track and Youtube is still blocked in this shit. I want to die. Same with In Mourning, very stoked with those releases. I’m very pleased with all these melancholic metal coming up.

I’m also interested in Gorguts and John Carpenter music, of course.

Indonesia is a difficult country for the youth, I hope the best for the ladies in that Fest.

    Great round, 365!!!

    • Hopefully they do not pull a In Flames and go all lolzhuey amirite? huehue

      • ÑO!

      • Janitor Jim Duggan

Why do you torment my beloved Siren Charms? Also DT and Sonata Arctica are doing a show up near Albany which combine their tours. I want to go.

        • Write this on my tombstone.

Siren Charms should be released as The Anders Fridén Band name.

          • Janitor Jim Duggan

            Link plz!

        • Ted Nü-Djent ™

Is Siren Charms their magnum opus?

    • Warheart

I’m sad because Henriksson is iconic to the band, but honestly, since he switched to guitar DT started his way to mediocrity, with Sundin stepping aside. Hopefully this will signify Sundin taking the lead composing role again, and hopefully we’ll never see another WATV again.

      • WTAV is my favorite DT album *gulp* 🙁 🙁 🙁

But, I see your thoughts. Sundin have a very distinct style, I wait the best from him. He didn’t participated in the album I don’t enjoy of their catalogue: Haven.

        • Warheart

Really? the usual favorite is either The Gallery or Mind’s Eye, mine are Gallery and Projector, I can’t choose between those 2.

Somehow I found WATV unlistenable, aside from that, I agree with Haven, it is their weakest album.

          • Mind’s Eye is amazing too. I prefer the flow on that album than on The Gallery.

Yeah, I know I’m part of the minority with WATV, I think I tend to go to that album based on the general “decayed city landscape” it portrays on the lyrics than the music itself. I’m very biased on that choice.

I think my second one is between Character, Damage Done, Fiction, Construct or Projector. I can’t choose! I love their catalogue.

    • Lisa Ling: Devourer Of Souls

I didn’t even know that DT was still around. Saw them way back when, and they put on a decent show. Past that, their stuff hasn’t really stuck with me.

  • Scrimm

    Definitely going to see Carpenter.

    That Wormed video is painful.

  • Shining is really cool until you realize they’ve been doing victory laps since Halmstad

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

      Halmstad isn’t that good tho

      • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

        I think it is.

But The Eerie Cold is better.

      • Sir Tapir The Based

        Shining isn’t that good tho

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

The Norwegian Shining? Yeah, they’re pretty meh.

        • I am learning this

  • brokensnow

glad I got to see martin play. wow, 26 years…

    • Indeed!

All these Swedish bands are old now and the time doesn’t seems to reflect it. It’s interesting now you point it.

  • Owlswald

Not to open a can of Wormed but I must admit that I gave Babymetal’s new album a legitimate chance but didn’t make it through the first 3 tracks before skimming through the rest. I have no idea what is happening on that album.

  • Ol Dirty Blastbeard

    rfi for daily lolbuttz
    #ShitBlackbeardSees

    • So it is someones name? Or a just a verb? lol

      • Ol Dirty Blastbeard

you see that its spelled incorrectly rite?

        • I didn’t know if it was a joke or not!

          • Ol Dirty Blastbeard

            its the mountain spelling

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

Other news: ZZ Top and Gregg Allman are touring together.

  • Gguts & The Dot?
    I am thickness.

  • Waynecro

IN MOURNING!!! Also, that new Katatonia song is really growing on me. I may actually check out the new Katatonia album.
