Physicists say that sound travels faster in water than it does in air. Apparently, the corner of the Atlantic I’m currently residing in wasn’t informed, because news have been travelling as slow as a Sunn O))) record. Being the resourceful deity I am, I still managed to find some of that new new to present to you. Get informed right after the jump.

Do you like Game of Thrones [CLICK HERE. — Masterlord]? Do you like metal and/or rap? Have you ever looked up to the sky and asked for Ty Dolla $ign next to Anthrax on the same release? If you said yes to any of these questions, you will be excited to know that the new GoT mixtape, suitably named Catch The Throne II, is up for free download and appreciation on Soundcloud. Besides the NYC thrashers, metal is represented by MastodonMushroomhead and Killswitch Engage. If you’re a poser hip hop head like myself there is also plenty to look forward to, including Snoop DoggMethod Man and many more. Stab below and get psyched for the new season!

You’ll have to wait until March 23rd to buy the new CHON album. You can, however, stream the entire thing on Sumerian Records‘ YouTube page by stabbing here. CHON is touring with Circa Survive plus Balance and Composure right now, and you can catch the tour dates on the aforementioned link.

Brutal death metal legends SKINLESS have finally reunited. Not only that, but they already have a finished record, entitled Only The Ruthless Remain, scheduled to wreak havoc on CD, Vinyl and digital formats on June 2nd via Relapse Records. If this isn’t enough to get you excited, know that, aside from adding new guitar-bro Dave Matthews (I know what you’re thinking), they will play with the same formation they did on their 1998 debut Progression Towards Evil, featuring Sherwood Webber on vokills, Noah Carpenter on guitar, Joe Keyser on bass and Bob Beaulac on drums. If this still wasn’t enough to get you excited, look at the LP cover below. Stay tuned for further updates.

This week has been crazy for hip hop fans, and I highly suggest you get acquainted with the most important releases even if this type of music is not your usual jam.

Kendrick Lamar has dropped an 80-minute monster of an album in To Pimp A Butterfly, a record that might end up as AOTY for me. You can stream it on Spotify by stabbing here.

Earl Sweatshirt‘s new album I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside will be out on 3/23. I expect a lot of evolution since his previous effort. Stab here and watch the video for “Grief”.

Death Grips were supposed to drop the second part of double disc The Powers That B, entitled Jenny Death, on 3/18. They didn’t, but at least we have the first “official” information on the release. See below. Expect a lot of Toilet writers to disappear for a while.

Watch the video for the excellent track “On GP” right here.

Which one of these make your heart start racing? Are there any other news plaguing your simple human brain?

Sound off, suckers.

  • Been meaning to check out that Kendrick Lamar album on Spotifzz. Thing is I’m completely ignorant of modern hip-hop. (I hope it’s not hipster-hop like fucking Kanye West.)

    • Edward/Breegrodamus

JAG I dunno how you feel about the beats (really funk influenced) but Kendrick is a great rapper and it’s a good album. It’s too long which makes me feel it’s somewhat self indulgent, and one could argue the same about the beats but I liked them so whatevs.

Check that shit out, or check out his previous effort first if you haven’t heard it good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

      • Sir Tapir the Based

The one and only Anthony Fantano (praised be him) gave it a 10/10.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m not surprised by that. I imagine many other publications will follow suit. It’s what publications do, a la My Beatiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

          • Enema For The Free World

I really hate it when blog and mags just all follow suite in praise or critic and some albums that gain winf like this – even when they are critiqued they are in the end always retained as brilliant.

Or when a certain band (deafheaven) becomes a medium everything even stuff not closely enough related is compared to or mentioned next to.

            Someone ought write about this…

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m going to, in a mini-review (about Sunbather).

          • Enema For The Free World

Wait? A mini-review about Sunbather? Now!?

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

No, something I have been meaning to tackle for this site. I should shut up about it already, lol

          • Enema For The Free World

            No…
Go ahead and tell us all about it.
            Before it’s published.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

That also would be a good / funny idea.

          • Enema For The Free World

            It would.

          • *beats @disqus_4E0xQtrX2p:disqus to the punch:
            “Deafheaven – Sunbather
            FLUSH”

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

            haha

          • Sir Tapir the Based

Thetony Smoothtano did not like MBDTF and that pisses off a lot of people

          • Enema For The Free World

Good. More people should be offended. I really need to check up on him.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

It was a very good album.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

This sounds like something Based JJD would say.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

JJD likes Kanye West? I didn’t know.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I meant the way you said it sounded like a JJD comment. I tried to get into West and think that he has some good songs, but dat autotune.

          • Dagon

There’s not that much autotune in his work besides 808s & Heartbreaks. Just occasional pops here and there.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I remember liking Blood on the Leaves, except for the autotune. Maybe I need to give the gay fish a second chance.

          • Farty McPoopyCoalRoll

            *cough cough Metal Hammer cough*

          • CT-12

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I wish I could’ve upvoted your comment like, 20 more times.

        • Guacamole Jim

Was there trap on the album? That’s the only thing that he truly loves.

    • Edward/Breegrodamus

I still want to hear your thoughts about the production quality of Colin Marston, lol. I need to write shit brb but not rb.

      • I replied to that, dude. Check your Disqus notifications.

        • Tyree

@disqus_4E0xQtrX2p:disqus. Fucking get your shit together BRO!

        • Edward/Breegrodamus

Oh shit, sorry. I was checking for it earlier but it must have gotten by me.

    • Dagon

You’ll probably like the instrumentals a lot. He took samples from a lot of soul, r&b, funk and jazz, but stitched them together in a very modern way. Flying Lotus’ You’re Dead! was definitely a major influence.

So far the album has been polarizing with fans, some people complain about the lack of “bangers”, but I just feel sorry for people that feel that way. The record is nothing short of amazing. It’s miles ahead of anything else being done in rap right now.

      • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

An album like that needs no ‘bangers’, as a concept it works incredibly well. I don’t think there is a rap album in recent memory that flows that well.

        • Dagon

          I approve of this comment.

    • Simon “Djentcrusher” Phoenix

While Kendrick is more hit and miss for me than most other hip hop heads here, he is still one of the best mainstream rappers out right now, along with Action Bronson and Danny Brown.

  • Tyree

Life sucks, and then you DIE.

  • Edward/Breegrodamus

    omfg Death Grips

    • Enema For The Free World

      Jenny Death>>>>>>>>>>>>

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

It’s gonna be, EOTY shit easily.

        • Enema For The Free World

I’d call it goodgoodgoddgoddgooooddddd witjout exaggeration.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Have you heard the whole thing… ?

          • Enema For The Free World

            It may have leaked today…

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

How’s the quality on that? I must resist until this weekend…

          • Enema For The Free World

It’s pretty neat. Can’t be certain if it is the actual quality, but I wouldn’t complain at all.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

            Fucking a.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m playing it now on Youtube. Sounds good!

          • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

            It has, and its incredible.

        • Guacamole Jim

It may just be Album of the Fucking Year. It’s a fucking BEAST.

          • Lacertilian

            ..

  • Tyree

I’m assuming Agalloch is not going to play any of their early shit, so pass on that. Boring when I saw them at MDF. Bought merch during most of their set.

    • Stanley

That sucks. I bought my ticket already.

    • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

This was the set list from the show in Philly:
      (serpens caput)

      The Astral Dialogue

      Vales Beyond Dimension

      Limbs

      Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires

      Dark Matter Gods

      The Melancholy Spirit

      Celestial Effigy

…and the Great Cold Death of the Earth

      Into the Painted Grey

      Falling Snow

      Plateau of the Ages

  • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

    Kendrick Lamar? Cunting really?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKSEjqe9ddI

  • For the hip hop heads, new Action Bronson next week. I expect greatness.

    • Dagon

I didn’t see a date on my news feed and that’s why it wasn’t up there. Holy shit I’m excited. I’m anticipating his release this year more than a lot of other good dudes. All the tracks leading up to it have been straight fire.

    • Simon “Djentcrusher” Phoenix

Stoked. Bronson is one of the few big rappers killing it right now.

  • Fuck yeah, new Skinless! They remain as one of the only brutal death metal bands that I really like. They were one of the first extreme metal bands I heard when I was a wee metal fetus that really made me say,”Fuck, that’s heavy.”

  • If you guys get the chance to see Skinless on tour with this lineup, definiely do it. Fun live band.

  • JWG

It totally figures “Stab here” would become a thing right around the same time I discovered Lee Adam Herold’s ‘Chopping Block’.

Here’s a nicely self-referential and totally relevant (if still OT) one:

  • MoshOff

    The Killing Gods >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    • Scrimm

      Wearing that shirt right now.

    • Tyree

      They were brutal live.

      • Scrimm

One of those bands I manage to miss every time they come through.

        • Tyree

          Bummer.

    • Dagon

I was late to The Killing Gods party but when I got there I got turnt up immediately

  • Sir Tapir the Based

The fact that I am really liking Kendrick Lamar’s new album is slightly scaring me.

    • Dagon

It’s probably because the instrumentals are the most organic I’ve ever heard in a rap album not recorded with a full band (see: The Roots).

      • Sir Tapir the Based

Dat George Clinton doesn’t hurt either.

        • Dagon

Great feature. That was one of the FlyLo produced tracks. Check out his release from 2014, “You’re Dead!”.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

            ‘Twas a good album.

        • Eddie Trunk Jr., Floor Tech

          George Clinton is the best.

      • Farty McPoopyCoalRoll

J Dilla had some solid instrumentals too, as well as DJ Shadow.

    • #ToiletMagick

    • DARKBEARD

Why? Kendrick and the rest of Black Hippy is probably the best hip hop out there

      • Sir Tapir the Based

Because I usually don’t like hippity hoppity.

      • Dagon

Jay Rock is finally dropping an album this year as well. Maybe we’ll also get a new Ab-Soul too.

        • DARKBEARD

Maybe a mixtape or EP from soulo because These Days just came out last year (hip hop aoty)

          • Dagon

You liked it better than RTJ2? I thought it was a bit hit or miss. Some of the songs in These Days I gave tons of play while others I always skipped.

          • DARKBEARD

I most definitely thought it was better than RTJ2, there were at least a handful I ranked higher than that album (you’d have to go back to last years posts).

      • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

        This person speaks the truth

      • Guacamole Jim

        Ehhhh……. ehhhhhhhhhh…..

    • You can’t make me listen

      • Sir Tapir the Based

        I’m not trying, honey.

        • Good mollusk

          • Sir Tapir the Based

            Thanks.

          • Don’t mind me, in running on very low sleep and slowly fading into the void <3

      • Edward/Breegrodamus

JB do you like Death Grips at all? Not metal but widely metal blog approved, dudes over at No Clean Singing have covered them a lot.

        • Idk I’m not really into hip hop so probably not?

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

They’re not really hip hop except for their first album.

          • What are they?

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

Hard to pin down, kind of an experimental mix of hip hop, electronic music, and a lot of writers have said punk rock or heavy metal but I’m not sure that’s a great comparison.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’ve seen them called industrial hip hop as well.

          • Farty McPoopyCoalRoll

Pretty much how I’ve described them.

          • CT-12

I’d say experimental, harsh hip-hop. Best way I can put it. Also, I’ve gotta get that Kendrick Lamar album dude, I’ve heard too many recommendations, but I’m still trying to listen to one of his mixtapes before the final purchase.

          • Edward/Breegrodamus

I’m talking with old friends about it and they are all up in arms that I think it is a little long, lol.

            It’s very good.

          • They are dirty and catchy. Give this a shot.
            Think if skronk was rap.
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W43aQxzjyeM

    • Formerly Known As Oli Sykes

It is an incredible album. This has been a great year for Hip-Hop in general though, even non Hip-Hop guys are liking the albums released.

  • The following is a elitist rant. Caution!:

I will never approve this GoT Mixtapes for mixing reggaeton trash with merol. I pass everything, even bad folk music. But this is too much…

    • … “Reggaeton royalty”.

OH, JUST GET OFF MY LAWN! >:(

      • Dagon

Hahaha I’m not big on reggaeton either. It usually sounds chaotic production wise (and not in a way that pleases me) and the rhymes are subpar.

      • Sir Tapir the Based

You’re so hot when you’re rustled.

        • Dude, that reggaeton crap is the only thing the radios transmit here along with horrendous sexual merengues from the 80, colombian folk music and stupid pop. In fact, that monster mutated into a “urban” genre which noone knows how to call it!

And the worse part is… In every place you go here you will find that bacteria.

If you go to a restaurant, you will find reggaeton.
          Stadiums.
          TV.
          Radio.
          Buses full of people.
          Child parties.

          Everywhere!!!!

          IT’S HORRIBLE!!!

IT’S ALWAYS THE SAME BEAT WITH SADISTIC SEXUAL LYRICS AND NO MUSICAL VALUE!

IT’S SO BAD THAT EVEN MOLENAAR WOULD SAY IT’S BAD, EVEN WHEN IT’S SO ANTIMUSICAL!

THIS IS A FREAKING SONG THAT I HEAR EVERYWHERE, THIS BASTARDS ARE LIKE FLU! THEY COME AND GO EVERY THREE MONTHS, THEY DISSAPPEAR AND COMES THE OTHER:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHERFSjT9mY

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I haven’t listened to the radio for a long time because almost everything on the radio sucks. Our rock radios play Nickelback.

          • I don’t listen radio either. But since I have to use public transport it’s everywhere! T_T)

The stores (clothes, food, every type of store) here have this obnoxious mind that they put two speakers with popular music in the front to “catch clients”. I have a moral and ethical reason to completely distrust on those stores, and that made that my wardrobe is going downhill because I don’t have stores to buy clothes!

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I use public transport in the winter (because I ain’t got a car and I would die if I used my bike) but you can barely hear any music. When I go to the store I can’t hear the rado because there’s always a fucking baby screaming (fucking hate those babies, man) or it’s too loud because people.

          • Iugh!

At least you don’t have loud music in the public transport.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ43-KoXW7g

          • Sir Tapir the Based

            Dude, that’s fucking loud!

          • Add:

            – Hot temperatures with no rain.
            – The bus have capacity of 30 people and the buses are filled with 100.
            – Robberies.
            – Bad traffic.
            – Reggaeton and other crappy mixes.

            Boom!

          • Sir Tapir the Based

If there’s a free seat next to someone on bus here, people rarely take it and stand instead.

          • People here don’t know about personal space, Tapir.

I like the nature of my country, but most of the people here are the typical caribbean that are extroverted, lousy and intrusive.

          • Sir Tapir the Based

We have some extroverted people here. We usually burn them at the stake every night.

          • Good. You’re a remarkable country.

            We do all we can.

          • In the days of yore, ladies invited me a drink before the spanking game.

We’re in a declive of the moral here!

          • Sir Tapir the Based

I’m guessing if that happened here, a guy would be excited as fuck and think that she wants him and a woman would report about sexual harassment.

          • That’s all Reggeaton fault and their stupid sexual lyrics.

Give freedom and that’s how they pay. We’re doomed.

Oh fuck yeah. Agalloch coming to the Brew in San Luis Obispo. I get Elder, Wovoka, High On Fire, and Agalloch back to back this spring. That shit never happens in this town.

New Kendrick and Death Grips are fantastic. Both are AOTY worthy for me (But they won’t, because Faith No More).

I honestly thought The Mindsweep would be my No. 2 (I like Faith No More aping and hardcore, OK), but at this rate it will barely make my top 10, and thats a very good thing.

The Mindsweep is still awesome tho.
