This is a Fish God takeover. I might not have the glorious fur my homie Bear God ostentates, but I can still keep you informed.

I think.

Retox premiered a video for “This Should Hurt A Little Bit”, a track from their solid 2015 release Beneath California. Peep the visuals below, and definitely don’t skip on their latest album. It’s a jam.

______________

Earlier this week we brought you a preview of Fuck The Facts upcoming release by way of track “Solitude”. Now there’s a video for the song, which you can watch below. Desire Will Rot is one of my most anticipated releases, scheduled for an August 25th drop on Noise Salvation.

______________

Refused just dropped a live video from a performance at Vacation Vynil in Los Angeles, California. As Amberthony Alertano would ask, what do you think of Refused’s last abum Freedom? Do you love it, do you hate it? Regardless, they bring a lot of energy to the table live, something you can (sort of) experience by watching the footage of “War On The Palaces” below:

______________

Pentagram released a new, fairly upbeat song. “Walk Alone” will appear on their upcoming album Curious Volume, set for an August 28th release via Peaceville Records. This is decent, but it doesn’t make my blood run faster like other Pentagram songs do.

______________

This week’s best release was Immortal Bird‘s Empress/Abscess. Not only can you stream it in full over at Invisible Oranges, you might also be able to hear this ungodly album being played live if you’re in the right place, in the right time. According to Earsplit Compound, these are the appropriate coordinates to be in:

8/07/2015 2040 @ Chicago, IL
8/08/2015 Louisville Deathfest @ Louisville, KY
8/10/2015 The Doom Room @ Lafayette, IN
8/11/2015 Blind Bob’s @ Dayton, OH
8/12/2015 Now That’s Class @ Cleveland, OH
8/13/2015 Saint Vitus Bar @ Brooklyn, NY
8/14/2015 Sidebar @ Baltimore, MD
8/15/2015 Death To False Metal Festival @ Hamden, CT
8/16/2015 The Shop @ Pittsburgh, PA
9/25-27/2015 Shadow Woods Metal Fest @ White Hall, MD
10/16/2015 Southwest Terror Fest @ Tucson, AZ

  • KEN Mode announced a huge tour aptly titled “The Huge Success Tour”. They will be supported by Fuck The Facts, Lo-PanChild BiteWe Are HexLife In Vacuum and COMEDIAN Garret Jamieson. Interested? Check the dates over at their Facebook page.
  • Kataklysm and Belphegor will be touring North America this Fall. If that is your thing or if you want to see people bitching about there being only 2 Canadian cities on the schedule, stab here for the tour flyer and dates.
  • This summer will see Savannah’s Black Tusk invading Europe. I’d go see them if I were Youropean. God, that was awful. Dates on this link. It’s relevant to say they will be playing alongside The Dillinger Escape Plan and Soulfly depending on the location.
  • Denver, CO will host the sickest event of December 5th: Denver Black Sky, featuring Pig DestroyerSkinless and a ton of other killer bands. More information can be acquired at the event’s Facebook page.

  • Kevin Nash & Friends

Also, the new WASP album comes out October 2nd. They released the track listing and cover art yesterday.

      • Kevin Nash & Friends

I’m so goddamn excited. I’m preordering it ASAP.

        • you should.

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

            I will.

        • I have only listened two W.A.S.P. songs. Which album do you recommend to me?

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

The Crimson Idol is my favorite as it’s their best album and the songs are top notch. I also recommend the first one, The Headless Children and when it comes to the later stuff Dominator and Babylon.

          • Thanks, dude. You’re the best.

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

            You’re welcome.

  • Dubzlinger

I’d like to try to make it to Black Sky. That’s weirdly the most feasible fest for me to attend.

    • The Fish Boz

The main and co-main event alone are worthy. I don’t think I’m familiar with the other announced bands, though.

      • more beer

They are all local. In The Company of Serpents are really good. I wasn`t that impressed with Nekrofilth when I saw them in May, Axeslasher I have heard of but have not seen. So I can`t give an opinion one way or the other.

        • The Fish Boz

Gonna try to jam In The Company of Serpents some time soon.

          • more beer

            I really like them.

      • Lacertilinger

a few of us were talking about Khemmis the other day, I thought you were too.
You’ll remember the cover if so..

        • The Fish Boz

Oh, right. That was a fun record. The cover is the best, though.

          Big Beards Big Bitches >>>>>

    • more beer

I sent you the flyer in a comment I made to you on Monday. I figured with your folks in the Springs this was a feasible fest for you.

      • Dubzlinger

Yah, it will just sort of depend on money/timing.

        • more beer

Like everything in life. I`m going to California Death Fest in October. If this wasn`t so close to me it wouldn`t be an option. But it is reasonably priced and I can take the light rail so I can drink and not have to drive.

          • Dubzlinger

I won’t be able to make a commitment for a while (it really depends on if this second job pays off the way I think it will), but I’ll keep you in the know. I’d like to get a beer with you if possible.

          • more beer

Absolutely that would be way cool. Black Sky Brewery usually supply’s a couple of the beers at this also. They brew some pretty good beer.

          • Lacertilinger

once you’ve had one beer though Dubz, you’ll want @more_beer:disqus

  • Dubzlinger

    Also, missed opportunity with “You’reapeein”.

  • Scrimm

Black Sky looks like an interesting night. Not feeling right this morning, back to bed.

    • God

Sleep tight scrimm. Get to feeling better.

    • Hey, friend! Good sleep!

    • Dagon

A good nap always gets me in the right mood.

      • Scrimm

Mood was exactly it. Something set me off a little this morning, was pretty down.

        • The Fish Boz

Feeling any better now? I hope so.

          • Scrimm

Somewhat. Have another day to spend in the studio, that should help.

          • Bitter (Tyree) Debra

            Beer and metal >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

          • Scrimm

Exactly. Just trying to decide what beer to get.

    • Herr Schmitty

Be there to tuck you in soon, schnookums.

    • more beer

I`ve been to both of the ones they have had already. I suspect they will add a bunch more good bands in the not so distant future. It won`t just be Pig Destroyer and Skinless with local support there will be more than that. I know someone who helps with the booking for this event. I`m going to a show tonight and will probably run into her. I will ask who else they are trying to get on the bill. It really is a killer fest.

      • Scrimm

Nice. I still want to try for Maryland but I don’t see how I’ll possibly be able to save that much. LV death fest seems the most feasible for me to catch, but this is a possibility too.

        • more beer

My buddy just went to LV death fest he had a ball. I went and saw Destruction that weekend. But I got to hang out with Schmier. So that made staying here instead of going to Vegas well worth it.

          • Scrimm

Sometimes that is better than the show.

          • more beer

That was certainly better for me. Since I have been a fan for 30 years.

    • Kevin Nash & Friends

      Wait, are you also Ignatius?

      • Howard Dean

Yes. This was established about a week ago when I went public and changed over because my original HD account is still banned.

        • Kevin Nash & Friends

          I didn’t know that.

        • The Fish Boz

I also didn’t know. Poetry is hard.

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

I also write poetry. I did it back when I was little and I still do. Here’s a poem which has no structure but rhymes.

            My turntable needs work
The automatic arm is being a jerk
The 8 track player can’t be tested
Whoever made this should be arrested

Tapir plz! Anthony Fantano is evil!

          • Le Tapir The Based

Come on dude that’s not nice. He’s a busy music nerd and he has 7 kids. He is love and life.

        • DoYouThinkHeSaurus

If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it’s that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh… well, there it is.

        • Hubert

          You’re banned? How?

          • Howard Dean

I’ve been banned for about a month now. I resurrected my Ignatius the Wizened account to circumvent the block, and then just switched it over to another HD account. I think I’m IP banned, too(?) so I have to use my phone and this alternate account.

          • Throbbing Fart Thong Of Doom

After a crude and savage act that involved Tapir, Taylor Swift, a rubber chicken, and an act involving eating corn on the cob with the buttcheeks of all three that terrified/tantalized the whole TOH community.

          • Kevin Nash & Friends

It didn’t tantalize me, it terrified me.

          • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

Is that krokodil I gave you for the trauma helping any?

Nothing that you remembered the next morning!

          • more beer

Video please. That sounds like something I need to see.

          • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

Just use your imagination, and everything you imagine probably happened.

          • more beer

Yea i did that. But sometimes I need the actual visual.

          • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

Tapir destroyed the tape in a meth and coffee fueled Swedish rage, sadly.

          • more beer

That was probably a good move on Tapir`s part. Always get rid of the evidence.

        • RJA

I don’t really know the details of why you were banned – don’t really care to be honest. Just wanted to note to everyone here this man wrote arguably the best post ever on this site: the Blut Aus Nord review. You should find time to review something else – that BAS review was top notch. If I had the time or if I ever get it I have an idea for the site reviewing the different distros -that I know mr dean can get behind.

          • RJA

            3 favorite distros:
            Hells’ Headbangers
            Dark Descent
            20 Buck Spin
(honorable mention to Iron Bonehead, although I rarely order from overseas).
            Your Favorites?

          • Bitter (Tyree) Debra

            Hells’ Headbangers
            Fallen Empire
            Terratur Possessions
            Vault of Dried Bones
            Iron Bonehead Productions
            Nuclear War Now

          • RJA

Fallen Empire’s releases are always very good and at least very interesting, but they frustrate me quite a bit!
I’ve never really checked out terratur though I have heard about them and Vault of Dried Bones I’m not familiar with so I will have to check them out – thanks.

          • Bitter (Tyree) Debra

Fallen Empire runs out of shit very quickly. That’s really my only complaint.

          • Howard Dean

I just bought the new Haethen CD from Fallen Empire. I received it in like three days. Great shipping! Byah!

          • Howard Dean

            Favorites:

-Norma Evangelium Diaboli and The AJNA Offensive (they aren’t terribly prolific but I love the labels)
            -Hells Headbangers
            -Nuclear War Now!
            -Terratur
            -Invictus Productiona
            -Dark Descent
-Behold Barbarity (a great provider of niche/ undesirable stuff other distros won’t touch)
-Iron Bonehead/Necroshine (I don’t order from them often, but they are very solid, of course).

I probably so 95% of my buying (not including rare/OOP stuff from eBay and Discogs) from HH, DD, Invoxtus, Terrarir

          • Bitter (Tyree) Debra

Check out Vault of Dried Bones if you have not. They have a good selection of shit that you’d like. It’s only based out of Canada too.

          • Howard Dean

I check their site every so often, but rarely think to order from them. But I will check again soon!

          • Bitter (Tyree) Debra

Actually, I’m expecting an order from them today. Took about a week; not too long of a wait.

          • RJA

I just checked out behold barbarity – some insane stuff on there!

          • Howard Dean

Yeah, they are not the typical metal distro. Pretty much no limits to what they will carry. Filter free. Not really a ToH friendly label, but some will find things to enjoy.

          • Dubzlinger

I’ve really been digging Dark Descent and I, Voidhanger.

          • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

Nowadays, the main one I can think of with a solid roster is Metal On Metal Records.

          • don’t forget his Tech Death Thursday on Deathspell Omega, another masterpiece of modern literature.

            Thanks Jimmy!

          • Howard Dean

            Thanks Jimmy!

          • Howard Dean

Many thanks for the compliment! I’ve been very busy and haven’t been involved with the ToH beyond commenting here and there. Not sure if I’ll write things again. It’s a delicate balance for me. If I start writing, I’ll start sinking too much time and attention into it–something I can’t really afford to do right now (though I would love to–writing about metal is fun).

  • That new Refused album is a disappointment. Couldn’t even make it through five songs before I shut it off.

    • The Fish Boz

I’m yet to play it. But I’ve seen a lot of people here echo your sentiments.

      • It’s not good, it’s not bad. Just average. You’d think with FNM and Failure coming back strong that they would do the same but the kinda falls flat.

  • Void Dweller

The new Pentagram has been a let down thus far.

    • The Fish Boz

      Agreed.

      • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Listened to it a few times (not sure if this song or another) and it started to get me. A relatively good doom-banger.

        • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

That’s okay bb. I hadn’t heard of Immortal Bird before yesterday, and they’re jammin! And it’s never too late to get into good music.

    • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

      They’re decent.

    • Kim Boz Un’s Bozziest Korea

I quite likey IB so far! And they’re from Chicago, which is always added points in my book (most of the time. Disturbed, Chief Keef and Smashing Pumpkins can eat shit).

  • Fuck the Facts’ new song definitely smashes skulls into brick walls so that only dribbling jelly remains oozing down the face. I’ve listened to several of the new Katakylsm tracks and despite nearly all the comments in the videos praising them, I just don’t like it. I thought their last album was pretty bad with the exception of the song “Kill the Elite” but they weren’t as boring as the new songs. I’ve never thought Kataklysm were an amazing band but I think they’ve made a lot of good music. It just seems that their latest outputs have not been very good.

    • Dubzlinger

I liked a fair amount of their stuff, but they seem to just be phoning it in now.
