There’s news here, man.

Down Among The Dead Men, an excellent, crusty death metal ‘n d-beat band featuring Dave Ingram (ex-Benediction, ex-Bolt Thrower and Church of Satan – apparently) and Rogga Johansson (every band ever) with Dennis Blomberg (Paganizer) and a drummer (most likely Matthias Fiebig) will be releasing their sophomore full length, called (REVENGE-inspiredly?) Exterminate! Annihilate! Destroy!, on 6th of November. Here you can view the art of their split with MISEO (just because you missed it, you can order it from the same link), also released this year, and E! A! D!’s art can be seen below. It is the work of one Turkka Rantanen. Two of the album’s fourteen songs are covers, namely Anvil’s “Forged In Fire” featuring Kam Lee (Mantas/Death, Massacre, a multitude of bands with Rogga) and Discharge’s “Protest & Survive”.

Remember when I reported that Cryptopsy had faced problems funding their Tome Of Suffering – series of Eps? They’ve triumphed despite the circumstances, and Book 1 will see the light of day on October 30th. They’re releasing a video for “Detritus (The One They Kept)” on Sep 25th today. The Book of Suffering Tome 1 was produced by Chris Donaldson at The Grid studio in Montreal, mixed by Jason Suecoff at Audiohammer Studio and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. See cover art here and check tour dates here.

  • Edward/Breegrodamus™

The new Deafheaven album was pretty boring, by the end.

    • Dagon

I thought the last track had good ideas but weren’t as engaging. The first three songs were very good IMO.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I thought the opening was very strong, and there were some other moments that were good too. Overall I was not too impressed though – didn’t live up to the early hype.

    • Maik Beninton™

      I think it was great.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I’m going to give it another dedicated listen, probably over the weekend.

    • it wasn’t the shitpile that Sunbather was. that’s something.

      • Vote for Jeb

I honestly don’ think I could predict if you’ll like something with any degree of certainty. Sometimes it seems that you just throw a dart at a board.

        • i swear it’s not on purpose!

          • Vote for Jeb

It’s just really funny. Sometimes you go full-on poser, and other times you act like an elitist.

          • Maik Beninton™

Looks allright to me. Still a specialist in rustling jimmies.

          • if Randall keeps up the good rec’s, we can add dragon *ahem* love-maker to that list

          • Vote for Jeb

            You’ve gone too far now.

          • Based Pingu

Randall and good rec’s don’t go together.

    • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Like I said in that post, I thought it was OK but nithing after Brought To The Water hit as hars and I don’t really see myself playing it a lot.

  • Did any one around here mention the new Revenge album (Behold.Total.Rejection)? Going to be released 13 November 2015. New song streaming here:
    https://revengeofficial.bandcamp.com/album/behold-total-rejection

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

      It’s gonna be good.

    • 365chaosriddendays

What a good dose of evil, thank you!

      • I’m really looking forward to this one. Some of the meanest sounding material they have done so far. That production has more beef to it but it’s still raw which is good.

        • 365chaosriddendays

I like raw sound too, I’m thinking about “Cimmerian Shade” by “Vampire” because I liked the song but I miss this sound, speaking about upcoming releases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYUgjODVeio

          • I’ve never actually listened to a full Century Media release by them. I’ll have to check this one out at some point. Their demo rips though.

          • 365chaosriddendays

Yes, the demo rips hard indeed, probably being under Century Media means having a sound more accurate, no problem but I hope they maintain that sense of savagery and a sound not totally perfec.

    • CT-12

I posted a song earlier this week, but it was pretty late in the day and I’m fairly certain everyone missed it.

  • Celtic Frosty

    Slugdge >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    • Óðinn

      Slugdge, Fuck yeah!

  • Wow, that new Cryptopsy is a big “Nope”. Made it about 45 seconds in.

    • Dagon

I disliked it too. It was like the System Of A Down of tech death. Or something.

      • It’s not good. That production does not help matters at all either.

        • Scrimm

Drums sound like a screen door slamming over and over again really fast.

          • Horrible! Odd to since Flo always seemed to have a someone natural sounding kit (Aside from kick triggers) up until Unspoken King. I didn’t mind Once Was Not honestly, and the drums were the most natural sounding drums Flo has done in my opinion for that album.

          • MoshOff

Dude I actually think the snare sounds really natural, moreso than on the last album. Everything else is triggered to hell but I was expecting it to be.

          • Mvthvr Shvbvbv 8

I’m disappointed in your dad for not stopping this evil.

          • My Father is Evil I guess.

          • Scrimm

I have a weird thing for that album.

    • Lacertilian

      Scimm level “nope”?

      • Scrimm

        Yes.

    • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Again, honestly, where do you go after None So Vile?

      • Too the grave.

        • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

Tou-cunting-che. I’m listening to the track right now. Not good.

      • Vote for Jeb

I think you could argue their stuff before Unspoken King was still decent. That album seemed to have completely taken their spark, despite trying to return to form. I didn’t think the self-titled was bad, but only a few tracks were really engaging.

    • JJD Misses Witch Ripper

Damnit. I love None So Vile and that song was a disappointment.

    • Mvthvr Shvbvbv 8

I still think they should have gone with a different name when they released “The Unspoken King”. It’s not that bad of an album. What makes it bad is the fact that it’s a Cryptopsy album. Then again, even if it was [band name], it would have disappointed people since it feature Flo and others were involved. My point is now moot.

      • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

Not that bad of an album?!?

        http://i.imgur.com/bVkZi3B.gif

        • Mvthvr Shvbvbv 8

I mean for what it is, at least.

          • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

            Oh.

  • Lacertilian

    Space Bong.

  • D. Lee

Intronaut, Cult Leader, and Baroness should seal the deal for me for the rest of the year. Also, Steak Number Eight just posted artwork and track listing for their new album, I dont recall a release date though

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

Cult Leader, Yellow Eyes, The Body & Krieg, Aevangelist, Revenge, um… I think I am forgetting at least one thing I am stoked about in 2015. Oh! Gnaw Their Tongues & Dragged Into Sunlight!

Cult Leader is going to blow people’s faces off.

      • Dagon

Dragged Into Sunlight is putting out another album this year? I forgot about that.

        • Edward/Breegrodamus™

It’s the long awaited collaboration with Gnaw Their Tongues – should be pretty dark and twisty to say the least.

          • Dagon

I think they’re very different, which should be interesting. I hope it’s something that feels more like a combination than Full Of Hell & Merzbow, which felt more like separate tracks of their respective sounds.

            Does that make any sense?

          • Edward/Breegrodamus™

            It does.

    • Vote for Jeb

Intronaut is hot fire. Danny Walker has such a tasteful style. Sadly, I’m not looking forward to new Baroness at all.

      • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I’ll jam the new Baroness. I really dug the first album of their last double album.

      • Dagon

        New Intronaut has me salivating.

        • Boss the Ross

It is grand, oh powerful fish god. The likes of which are not meant for human consumption.

          But I’ll take it!

          • Dagon

Glad they didn’t say anything about fish consumption!

      • Ian

I’ll throw my hat in and say that the new Intronaut is fuckin ace too. Any particular reason you’re not into new Baroness?

    • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

Does the new Steak Number Eight come with Heinz 57 sauce?

This Space Bong stuff is good stuff, dude. Hit it. Dude.

Baroness released a video for “Chlorine & Wine”:

Art As Catharsis have been hitting it hard all year, and we all benefit.
      http://www.artascatharsis.com/

    • D. Lee

I feel like based on this track Purple is going to be a more focused version of what they were going for on Yellow/Green

      • Dagon

Definitely. I was underwhelmed when this track came out but I’m getting warmer to it. Also, there is a very obvious progression towards this if you listen to their stuff chronologically.

      • which means a big “no thank ya ma’am” from me

        • Vote for Jeb

I’m with you there. I bought into the hype on that album, but it has not aged well for me. At all.

          • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

Was there a significant difference between Yelliw and Green?

        • D. Lee

Eh, yellow was solid but I’m hard pressed to ever really re-visit green

  • Maik Beninton™

Slugdge, eh? name your price, eh?
    I’ll take it.

    • Dagon

Specially now that our money is worth less than bottle caps.

  • MoshOff

I liked the Cryptopsy song, it’s the right mix of their older and newer sound. Anyone expecting them to re-do None So Vile or any other album is just setting themselves up for disappointment at this point.

    • Yup, they’ll never out do None So Vile. They could try if they got the NSV line-up back together, but they still would never be able to out do it. Flo would ruin it some how since he is into a lot of Metal-CORE now.

      • MoshOff

The last album had more of a NSV vibe to it (via having Jon Levasseur back writing stuff), but I revisited it yesterday and it feels kind of half-hearted. This at least sounds more honest, if not in the same vein.

        • It’s missing that grit and raw evilness that NSV provided. This is way too clean and polished and there is more of a CORE sound to it; plus those vocals make me cringe.

Basically, I don’t like it. Glad you do though.

          • MoshOff

If Chris Donaldson is writing all the stuff, it’s going to lean more towards the core. Flo is the only original member left and I’m pretty sure he never wrote any of the riffs.

          • I’ve just read interviews and articles with him saying that he leans more towards the Metalcore side is what I meant.

      • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

It’s a crime wasting insane drumming talent like that on something as predictable and boring as metalcore.

    • Maik Beninton™

I didn’t think it was bad either.

    • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

Damn, and everyone was hoping they’d do another Unspoken King!

  • “mixed by Jason Suecoff”… that’s your first mistake.

FYI, new Intronaut is fantastic! it’s a return to their heavier, screamier roots.

    • Mvthvr Shvbvbv 8

The second was having the wigger core breakdown at 2:35

  • Hey dudes. Having to work at work kinda sucks.

We will see you all on Monday! (hopefully!)

  • JJD Misses Witch Ripper

Speaking of news, the sad saga of Ratt is getting worse. I’ve read that Warren DeMartini is going to take legal action against Bobby Blotzer’s version of Ratt. They’re sullying the name beyond repair at this point.

    • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

They’ve probably spent more on lawyers than they’ve ever made in Ratt, at least after that one hit of their’s.

  • Sgt. Poopypanty’s Fartin Teeth

I declare CT-12 the obvious winner (didn’t know this was a contest, but hey), because Iron Angel. That and I can’t stand 3DN (I’ll still love you in the morning, though, Jim)

  • Waynecro

Back in the day, I twice blew out the speakers in my car blasting Cryptopsy’s None So Live. Varathron and Slugdge sound great!

  • Xinen

Bought the Slugdge album, its been great so far. I liked the Cryptopsy song. I actually like Jason Suecoff. His project Capharnaum is one of my favorites.
