New Music Roundup: Leprous, Satan’s Wrath, Tempel, Entrails, Sigh, & More!

“Boo hoo, Necrophagist / Tool / [insert other overrated band here] are never going to release new music. I might as well just curl up into a ball and soak in a pool of my own urine. Nothing will console me. Life isn’t worth living.” Get over it, you fucking wimp. New music comes out every day. And you know what? Sometimes it even doesn’t suck that much.

I know there are more than a few Leprous fans in the house, and I know they’ve all got jealousy shooting out of their ears knowing that W. has been jamming a promo of The Congregation, the upcoming followup to the Norwegian progressive metal dude’s last album in 2013. Don’t you just want to wring his presidential neck? Here’s some news that might ease the pain – they just debuted a new song for the filthy, promo-less commoners (that’s you!). It’s called “The Price”, and it’s real good. W. assures us all that the whole album is similarly real good. After hearing this, I’m inclined to believe him. It drops on May 25th via InsideOut Music.

More people ought to know about Satan’s Wrath and their blackthrashing expertise. For the uninitiated, they’re one of the best/only bands worth listening to on Metal Blade Records, and they just released a new track called “A Mindless Servant of Satan” from their upcoming album, Die Evil (May 5th). Two days ago, I, Tyree, and Simon Phoenix all fully agreed with the following statement from the latter:

Dude this song fucking rips.

Amen and amen.

All I know about Tempel is that they’re from Arizona, they’re instrumental, the album cover for their new album rules, and they either can’t spell temple correctly or refuse to spell temple correctly. The Moon Lit Our Path drops on June 16th via Prosthetic Records. Here’s a little teaser for if you’re into that sort of thing. The last ten seconds sound… potentially promising. And doomy.

Entrails copied the shit out of Entombed‘s logo (See? I made that.). Does it bother me? Not at all. Let me tell you why. It tells me exactly what to expect from the band, and it just so happens that it’s telling me to expect something that tends to make me very aroused – old school Swedish death metal. Entrails have released three crushing full-lengths since 2010, and the fourth (Obliteration) is set for release on May 19th. Listen to “Beyond the Flesh” below and get your skulls crushed into smaller pieces of skull.

Last time, somebody in the comments said that Sigh doesn’t make weird music. To that person I say, “what lol.” If you missed the first single from the new album Graveward (which will be released on May 4th), go check it out. If you’re all caught up, listen to second single, “Kaedit Nos Pestis”. This one features the usual weirdness, some downright fist-pumping riffs, ripping solos, and a way-too-fucking-catchy clean-sung chorus. I like it more than “Out of the Grave”, and I’m really, really looking forward to the rest of this album.

A few more things:

  • Hell’s Headbangers Records released their 8th free compilation, and it’s just full of killer songs.
  • For the very, very few who were into my Dungeon Synth postErang just released his newest album, which you can stream in full at his Bandcamp.
  • CVLT Nation is hosting a full stream of the new MTHR EP here.

Virgil Donati doesn’t count, ever. Except when he’s drumming LOLOLOL

        • Guacamole Jim

    • Edward/Breegrodamus™

I’m playing it now. P tasty!

  • Dr. Dubz

Anyone know who did that Tempel cover art?

    • MoshOff

Costin Chioreanu, same dude that did the cover for the Trial album. Somone on the FB group said they thought it was him, I don’t remember who though.

    • Lacertilian

Their last album cover was perfect for the music but was an ancient (circa 930 ?) piece drawn by Li Cheng called A Solitary Temple Amid Clearing Peaks.

Took me a while to track this info down a couple of years ago because I didn’t know that you could google search an image. I’ve still got a print of that on my eBay watch list.
I know nothing about the new one, but I’m sure I’ll be able to track it down now that I’m not a complete n00b.

  • Guacamole Jim

New Leprous and new Tempel? Tis a good day!

  • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

This has been an expensive month for music purchases thus far–especially after a relative benign winter/early spring. I preordered the new Tribulation and Gorguts Obscura reissue from CMDistro, preordered the new Malthusian EP and picked up Blasphemophagher’s The III Command from Invictus Productions, and just preordered the new Clandestine Blaze album and bought the Absurd/Grand Belial’s Key/Sigrblot split and Absurd’s Totenlieder from IPR. I also plan to place an order with Terratur once their web store is unfuckulated. Goddamn. My wallet says “fuck you, piece of shit CD addict!”

TL;DR – I don’t need to hear about any new music. Stahp it.

    • I’ve never listened Tribulation, my friend Howie. But that cover art surely is dragging me to listen this new album!

      • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

I’ll decide on the new album once I have it for awhile and can give it a few listens, but Tribulation’s first two albums–especially Formulas of Death–are stellar.

        • Thanks, hope I have the time to check those too! Added to my neverending list!

Hey, bro.. Can I tell you something?

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

            Sure, Link!

          • I miss your articles.

            Thanks for still commenting.

            Hope you’re doing it fine.

            My best of vibes.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

You give a cold-hearted misanthrope like the Howard some hope for humanity. You’re a good dude.

I’m doing pretty well. Life is busy (and kinda insane).

            Thank you!

          • Glad I give hopes, jajaja.

I’ve been very busy too. This week started very stresfull. There are injustices in salaries in my work and all the shitty co-workers are discussing a lot about their salaries.

We’ve doing reunions since monday about those stuff. But some people even yell about the issues, because some bosses or some technicians gain the double than me.

But, I’m here and when the reunions are out, I can listen music and continue my work <3.

If you need to chat or something, remember that you count with a crazy venezuelan guy over here.

            My best of wishes.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Good luck with all that salary craziness! Bring out the hatchet and threaten some fingers if you need to!

          • They’re just living dead people worrying only about the money and not the real aspects of life.

The hatchet rampage will be easy 😉

            Thanks, Howie!

    • Dr. Dubz

I was wondering if you picked up that Obscura reissue. I probably will too. I’d like to buy a Kriegsmachine CD, but I’m not stoked on importing it.

      • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Indeed. Of the purchases I just made, all but the CM ones are imports from Europe. Overseas shipping sucks donkey balls. At least the dollar is strong against the Euro right now.

      • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Dark Descent has a few Kriegsmachine CDs in stock. Hells Headbangers has their split with Infernal War as well.

        • Tyree

Infernal War don’t play blast beats at all. Super slow band.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Like Sunn O))) on purple drank.

          • wood listen

          • I think I was lied to here.

          • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Yar. If Infernal War were an ice cream flavor, they would be pralines and blast beats.

          • Tyree

            So accurate!!!

        • Dr. Dubz

Nice! Thanks for the tip. I see they have A Thousand Voices. I was listening to that split with Infernal War the other day!

        • Dr. Dubz

I just double-checked No Solace, and Enemy of Man ships for only 3.30 Euros. That’s definitely doable.

          • Stanley

I got mine directly from No-Solace. You can kill two birds with one stone and pick up some Mgla while your at it and the shipping hardly goes up. Buying directly from the source is cheaper than other options that I found.

    • RepostedAvengedSevenfoldFan

I bought the new avenged sevenfold cd a couple of days ago.I played it because I thought my dad wasn’t home,he doesnt let me own an ipod because he wants to know what im listening to.Well he comes home, takes yelling about how I was going to hell, how this is the devil’s music and made me go into my room to pray.I asked online for help, and told him about how avenged sevenfold wasn’t evil, how the got their name from the bible. My dad was even more mad,I have been grounded for the rest of the summer. He said to tell my dumbass friend online to read the bible if they could, and go back to watching videos of groundhogs and porn.Well I need to some how get into his room get my cd back and i want to burn it with my laptop and replace the orginal before he can found out.

Does anyone have any ways to get him out of the house long enough for this to happen? He’s a gym teacher and on vacation from work.

      -Cobanobe, 3 years ago

    • JWG

I want Obscura, but CMDistro seems to have decided they hate Canadian orders (with an obscene per-item shipping charge hike last year).

I’m hoping Scrape finds a way to get it in stock without making it too costly. I’ll pay for it (even if as expensive) to support them, but not Century Media directly.

      • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

CMDistro is kind of a pain in the ass. One of the largest labels in metal, and their releases are perpetually delayed. Seems strange. They should be able to throw their weight around at the presses/factories, you would think. Oh well. I just want my fucking Obscura CD!

  • King Shit of Fuck Mountain
    • Actiondonkey FKA Ferris Mueler

That was actually really cunting good.

      • King Shit of Fuck Mountain

        You’re welcome.

  • Tyree

New Satan’s Wrath song fucking rips hard! The end.

Good shit here. Leprous sounds great. Tempel sounds promising. Sigh sounds weird.

  • Ricky

I’ll get this fucking Leprous, get drunk as fuck, high as fuck, maybe eat some pepperoni & chicken chips & tell Lahey & Randy to fuck off!

    • Dr. Dubz

      • Ricky

I’ll go “borrow” some from the store.

        • Reichsmarschall Dean von Steel

Grab a few cocks of pepperoni and some Zesty Mordant chips!

        • CyberneticOrganism

Grab me some of those sweet & power chicken things.

  • WOAH!

New Leprous sounds amazing! The vocal melodies are incredible.

That Sigh production is very weird. But the riffs worth it.

Hope I can listen this new Tempel album.

Thanks for this round, Masterboxers <3.

    • Dr. Dubz

Dude, what’s most impressive about Leprous’ singer is that he can really nail this stuff live.

      • Stellar.

I’ve only listened Coal, and it’s a really great album. Hope I can dig the others, I’ve read wonders of their first.

        • go listen to “Forced Entry” off of Bilateral. DO IT NOW!

          • Sure, sure!!

          • didn’t mean to yell, just got excited…
            please accept my apapachbro

          • Do you want to ‘apapacharme’? O.o)

          • maybe! wikipedia tells me “Apapacho = n. A hug.”

          • Jajajaja, that’s right!

I will check that record, too, Macnulti! 🙂

They do that prog that I like that worries more about melodies and textures, like Porcupine Tree-style.

          • Adding ‘apapachbro’ to the dictionary.

      • Gawt dayum this is awesome.

      • Keegan Lavern Still

God damn right, he can. They need to tour the US soon. I remember them making that implication when they signed with a new booking agency a few months ago, so hopefully it’ll happen at some point.

      • Guacamole Jim

AH! His snare drum sounds like a snare drum! I don’t know why they have to make it sound like a dead floor tom on their recordings. It’s the only thing that bothers me about them.

  • the line to wring W’s neck:
    1. me
    2. Metaphysical Anus
    3. YourLogicIsFlushed?

  • Celtic Frosty

Oh shit, I am pumped as FUCK for that new Tempel. Their first album kicked all manner of ass.

  • Actiondonkey FKA Ferris Mueler

I’m starting to think Sigh peaked at Scenes from Hell which was a goddamn masterpiece. The track here is less than compelling, as is most of their work when a single track is isolated; however, their unique sound generally lends itself to digesting an entire album as a whole since each release is concept-driven.

  • Metaphysical Anus

I agree with Nordling on Sigh not being that weird (I think it was Nordling who said that). This new Leprous song is indeed a tasty one.

  • TheRedman(formerly God ov All)

Deity shtick is getting old after a couple years, hardly use the references anymore.

ANYWAY, Stoked for the new Tempel. loving what is currently gracing my ears right now. Entrails is nothing to scoff at either.

  • Guppusmaximus

“Boo hoo, Necrophagist / Tool / [insert other overrated band here] are never going to release new music….”

I already replaced those with the new Alkaloid & Soen releases:

    • TheRedman(formerly God ov All)

This. I honestly dont think that even if necrophagist or tool released new shit, that it would live up to the hype.

      • Guppusmaximus

I completely agree. 10,000 Days was tepid at best and I forgot about Necrophagist, roughly, ten years ago…

    • wow, this is gud. thanks, large fish! (sounds like old Opeth with some proggy sprinkles on top)

      • Guppusmaximus

You can check out the entire stream for Alkaloid at Loudwire. That should quench your thirst for Necrophagist, if you were still thirsty:)

        • i’ve heard Alkalkoid, it’s great. my theory is that 1,000 bands have copied Necrophagist, and so Muhammed just threw in the towel. people say Obscura took their place, but i find them quite boring (dodges incoming bottles)

          • I spinned a lot of Obscura in my college days. Haven’t years without listen a complete album of them. But this bass lines are perfect, and this is the song that I kept with me:

Jeroen is a beast, he really knows how to compliment the melodies. Go to 1:20.

          • i used to dig them too. i can’t argue that the bassist is great! and they ARE good musicians, but the music doesn’t stick for me.

          • KimJongUn’s Crunchy Chest Hair

I forget which song it was, but his one bass line sounded like a hornet’s nest (in outer space).

          • Guppusmaximus

It’s not unheard of that Necrophagist would’ve been copied as they were a pretty successful “underground” band, however, while I agree that Obscura had a tendency to drag on sometimes, I don’t feel they were necessarily copying Necro. Personally, I thought I heard far more Death (Shuldiner) influences. At that point though, I was kinda getting bored with the entire “Tech Death” genre. I still prefer Symbolic to most of this modern stuff…

      • KimJongUn’s Crunchy Chest Hair

I also heard a pinch of Tiamat in there as well.

    • Guacamole Jim

      This is good shit.

      • Guppusmaximus

Yea, Soen really stepped it up on this sophomore release. The album sounds like a great fusion of the Tool / (obvious) Opeth influences and it has stopped my curiosity about any new Tool offerings as I don’t think they could compete with this.

        • Guacamole Jim

It’s interesting to see how Tool, by taking forever to release anything, has been eclipsed by up and coming bands who are taking their influence, refining it, and making it better.

          • Guppusmaximus

Well, I guess it’s just a matter of time. While the guys in Tool may be talented Musicians, this isn’t the 90s anymore. Figuring out how they play is just a keystroke away. Obviously, the influence on a beast like Martin shows what is possible especially when you have friends that are almost as talented ~ That’s my classic Opeth bias talking ~ Now mix that with his experience playing more difficult stuff (yes, Opeth) and Voila.

Not to toot my own horn, but, I called this on Metalsucks after I listened to their first release backwards & forwards. I knew they would be a powerhouse if they could mix in that Opeth-like proggy-ness.

    • KimJongUn’s Crunchy Chest Hair

      Pretty good/tender-worthy!

  • Oh shit, I totally forgot to read your dungeon synth post the day it was published. I’ll remedy that when I get home.

  • CyberneticOrganism

    I like Entrails.

    • KimJongUn’s Crunchy Chest Hair

Good stuff, definitely worshiping at the alter of Entombed.

    • TheRedman(formerly God ov All)

  • The Beargod

Sigh isn’t weird really. Masterturd is just dumb.

    • Metaphysical Anus

I was right, you said that. I agree with you wholeheartedly, my Finno-Ugric brother.

  • TheCheezFace

Can’t believe I’ve never heard Leprous before. Good stuff.

  • KimJongUn’s Crunchy Chest Hair

Leprous took me a minute to get into (wasn’t quite digging the reggae sounding guitars in the beginning), but once it started in with the vocals, I had to surrender my tendies. 8.5/10 tendies (ate half of one).

  • Pagliacci is Kvlt O)))

Cool story bro time: Tempel changed the spelling of their name because there was another band named Temple that didn’t appreciate sharing the name.

    • Lacertilian

Thanks for writing that out so I didn’t have to.
Are we part of the super-awesome but slightly bitter group of geese who will be able to say in ten years that ‘I was into Tempel before they were Tempel’?
