Version 2.lol

The laughs don’t stop, even as the US careens towards political oblivion. What helps chase away the terror shakes? Metal bands looking foolish. Some have silly costumes, some have goofy reactions, some have bad special effects, and some have Rob Flynn with durian hair. We’ve got more silly gifs from metal videos brought to you by @MetalwoContext. Give ’em a follow for more quality gifs and bad band promo pictures. Make sure to post other favorites in the comments section.

  • Dumpster Lung

I feel like it’s cheating to use garbage-tier/nu- metal for metal without context 😛

  • Wet W’s Whistle

Is this a safe place? Because I have a confession. I really dislike Korn and even left Mayhem before they came on stage, but I have a weird nostalgic soft spot for one of their crappier albums, See You on the Other Side. Coming Undone, specifically.

    Cast your stones.

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Well I’ve been claiming half my life that Korn’s debut album is actually a really good album. They have a few enjoyable songs scattered throughout the rest of their discography as well.

(none of them being on SYotOS though)

      • Wet W’s Whistle

Oh, I’m not debating that it’s a crappy album. Just saying that I like it for nostalgic purposes.

      • KJM = MJK

The 1st album is quite good. Their 1990s material is decent enough, seen them twice on ‘Follow The Leader’ tour, good times with friends.

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Peachy and Issues have a few good songs. Always thought Leader was for the most part pretty awful, but I have to admit it’s hard for me to stay objective when I think of those Fred Durst-Ice Cube-Tre Harrison collabs as well as “getchabootyon” Got the Life.

          • ME GORAK™✓ᶜᵃᵛᵉᵐᵃⁿ

LEADER DO SUCK BUT FOR 1 SONG THAT AMONG KORNS BEST!!!!!!

            https://youtu.be/QWi-YMmUHL0

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Definitely the best song on that album by a long shot. A lot of people seem to hate Issues, but I always felt that album had by far the most dark, miserable vibe next to the debut.

          • ME GORAK™✓ᶜᵃᵛᵉᵐᵃⁿ

ISSUES IS NEXT CLOSEST TO COMPLETE ALBUM BESIDE DEBUT!!!!!!!!!

        • ME GORAK™✓ᶜᵃᵛᵉᵐᵃⁿ

SAW THE ONE WITH ROB ZOMBIE!!!!!! WAS COOL SHOW!!!!!!!!!!

          • KJM = MJK

I saw the 1st Family Values tour. Korn, Rammstein, and ice Cube.

      • Depechemodeisgangsta

Also didn’t Korn jumped in that whole Dubstep sound for a whole, i have never bother to check that out, i enjoy their first 3 albums, but that is mostly coming from a place of being a kid just getting into music, and at that time the options was, Nsync Backstreet Boys, Britney, Christina vs Korn, Sepultura, Pantera etc.. i guess i made wrong choice, should have gone with the former.

        • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

I have to admit I haven’t really followed their stuff after the first 4 albums. I’ve heard a select few songs of their 2000’s stuff and I’ve come across a particularly awful collab with Skrillex.

          • GoatForest

            I really enjoyed The Untouchables.

    • Sid Vicious Promos

You think that’s bad? Look at my music taste. I have a soft spot for Super Collider. Although I hated it at first it grew on me. It was the first Megadeth album i ever owned.

      • Wet W’s Whistle

        I don’t know that I would recommend making this a one-up contest.

        • KJM = MJK

          I would. ^_^

          • Wet W’s Whistle

            Luuuuuul

        • Sid Vicious Promos

Well i undetstand where youre coming from on crappy albums people have soft spots for.

      • You think THAT’S bad?? I once shoved my dick in an electrical outlet.

        • Aaaaaaaand screengrabbed.

        • Rick Chard

          So you “shorted” the outlet??

        • Sir Ukkometso The Based

          Bad? That sounds very enjoyable ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

        • GoatForest

You think that’s bad? I once killed a man for some French toast. That man… was me!

      • To answer your question, I think that’s bad.

    • i was recently talking to some friends about live KoRn. i would thoroughly enjoy watching them perform, and i imagine many others would too! (even though they might not be everyone’s favorite.)
      #JNCOfriday

      • Joaquin Stick

Way back during one of those “a festival posted a whole bunch of full-concert videos” posts, Korn was on there and I watched it hoping to see lolbuttz, but it was actually kinda fun. The drummer kept fucking up his stick tricks, but otherwise it was good! Still can’t say I think the music is “good” but it’s… entertaining?

        • Depechemodeisgangsta

From a personal view, i kind of like Korn, but i probably haven’t heard any of their past 4-5 albums, but have seen them live a bunch of times 3-4 maybe, because is one of those bands that draws a crowd down here, and they are a hit and miss for me, some of the shows had been mediocre and some goods, but the last one i went was when they were playing their full debut album live and the crowd was up for that show, that was their best show i seen from them, but a lot had to do with the crowd.

      • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

For what it’s worth, at the yearly local big metal fest over here I’ve seen KoRn perform twice and both times it was a good performance that got the crowd going.
I could actually make the same case for Godsmack. Credit must be given when it’s due.

I could also tell you about which bands really sucked ass when I saw them.

        • Frank you are a brave man for dropping the G-word. but i imagine it’s true 😉

          • Howard Dean

Godsmack was literally the favorite band of at least a dozen people I knew in high school (and still is for like half of them). Crazy. I never got it.

          • Wet W’s Whistle

That wouldn’t seem out of the ordinary here at all. Where I currently live (for another two weeks), bro metal, southern metal, and nu metal still reign supreme.

          • Howard Dean

Very true. Despite it’s relative fall from mainstream grace, I reckon nu metal is still more popular (and profitable) than all of extreme/fringe metal (and basically everything else except classic heavy metal a la Iron Maiden and popular modern stuff like Mastodon) combined.

          • CyberneticOrganism

            *star-spangled banner softly plays*
            *sheds tear*

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

I can think of worse bands than Godsmack. They play simple, dumb, stale brocore and for every decent (and I mean “decent” for what it is) song on one of their albums, there are at least two crappy filler tracks – but they do know how to get the crowd going.

I’m not that picky when it comes to live bands. There have been quite a few bands that I deemed uninteresting when it came down to their studio work, but when I saw them live I could only conclude that they put on a solid show.

          • i’m willing to let go of some of my elitism when it comes to live shows. it’s usually going to be a good time: hanging with friends, people watching, meeting the bands, it just adds up to a good time.

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

The “underground scene” over here isn’t really developed anyway. Basically every other metal fan I’ve ever met over here is into really entry level bands, with few, if any, exceptions. Body Count, Korn, Godsmack, Devildriver, Sabaton, Cavalera Conspiracy…delivered solid performances when I saw them. Lamb of God and Slipknot even delivered shows I’d call superb.
I’d only come across as a whiny loser if I’d go around shoving my “elite” taste in everyone’s face.

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

To me is other way around, if i see a band live and their show is good i will support them, buy their disc or some merch, i understand that not every night a band “can bring it” but for me is all about being able to make the live music, worst band i have seen live has to be Papa Roach, holy crap i saw them live 2 times, one opening for GNR and they got booed out of the stage basically, their sound was horrible, people were not into it, and the other time i saw them, they were the co headliner from a radio show, and they were also bad.

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

I’ve seen Papa Roach live as well. Awful. Just fucking awful. I wasn’t thinking highly of their music anyway, but ever since I saw them live I even dream of punching that singer in the face just because of how fucking terrible his shitty band is.

          • dang, after hearing you and DMIG describe Papa Roach’s live set, i must say it sounds entertaining!

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Five Finger Death Punch, Limp Bizkit and Disturbed were FAR better live bands than Papa Roach was. They were literally that fucking horrible.

          • more beer

I have never seen any of those bands and am going to keep it that way.

          • KJM = MJK

Ozzfest 2001, the things I endure to see Black Sabbath. Most of those bands were there except 5FDP.

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

You had to sit through Taproot, American Head Charge, Spineshank, Crazy Town, Linkin Park… ? Ouch. Your dedication is admirable.

          • KJM = MJK

2 days in a row. Fortunately, I went much later the second day.

However, all those horrors paled in comparison with having to endure Marilyn Freakin’ Manson 2 days in a row.

If I’d been driving I would’ve waited until the last possible moment to go. However, i don’t drive.

          • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

            Fucking hell…
I’ve seen Marilyn Manson live as well. I never remotely liked any of his studio music – how some of his albums are critically acclaimed is one of those things I’ll never understand – but people were always raving about his live shows so when he made an appearance at the local metal fest I decided to check it out…

…and it turned out to be a complete abortion.

          • KJM = MJK

It was like seeing the worst parody of Bowie & Alice with a little rated PG GG Allin thrown in for bad measure, god awful.

          • more beer

            I feel your pain.

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

I love that ozzfest 2001 album.

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

You know how when there is a train-wreck, you can’t just look away, well Papa Roach is not even that kind of wreck, is just bad and horrible, is not even worth it.

          • that amount of terribleness sounds impressive

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

Agree out of all the shows i have seen, that one stands one, just how bad an awful they are.

      • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

I saw them at a festival when Jonathan Davis was too sick to perform so they had other folk stand in. Cory Taylor, Matt Heafy, Benji from Skindred, M Shadows (I think, it’s been a long time) and maybe one or two more. Was an interesting set.

        • oh heavens, that’s a lot of folks who create music that we at this site do not collectively pursue 😉

    • Guacamole Jim
      • Joaquin Stick

Man I really need to start doing ballerina twirls before I say “fuck you” to people. Really gets the point across.

        • more beer

Wearing a pink shirt and your sisters pants also really help drive the point across as well.

“I’m so sorry it’s not to your liking, here, have free beer for the rest of the day.”

      • I’m ashamed to know that this is from an Upon A Burning Butthole video.

        • Joaquin Stick

Ayy, I saw you purchased Employed to Serve on BC and decided to check it out. Muy Bueno.

          • Listening today on repeat, you’ll probably especially enjoy the last two tracks.

        • KJM = MJK

I sat through them at Mayhem Fest 2012. It was appalling. I was only in that third stage area because it was hot and there were a lot of shade trees and grass to sit on. They looked like they were hired to play a wedding(dressed up badly).

          • They are beyond awful and should do us all a favor and get a day job

    I love this so much.
