I Don’t See Nothing Wrong with a Little Bump’n’Grind

Emphasis on the grind. If you’re anything like me, a good grind tune is like a shot of adrenaline. It kicks you in the nads and gives you the rage-fuel to power through even the most difficult, Surge-esque obstacles. Grind has served me well, and I want to pass the blessing onto you. Therefore, I have prepared five grind releases for your auditory pleasure. Shout out to the morbid folk at the grindcore subreddit for posting these bands. Try not to turn into a coke-fueled sharknado while you jam.

Dakhma – Ungeziefer

Dakhma are a new two-man grind band from San-Fran. This is raw, vitriolic grind leaning more on the hardcore side than the DM side. I’m a sucker for grind songs that are longer than 30 seconds, and four of the five tracks on this release deliver. Plus, it’s a “name your price” release. What’s not to like?

OLDBONES – OLDBONES

OLDBONES are a gaggle of extreme metal luminaries from Brooklyn, and the influences of their other bands, including Hivesmasher, are evident. This is some pissed off grind more on the metallic side. Check out the Soundcloud stream and blast with these guys.

The Heads Are Zeros – All the Men I Love Are Dead

This five-track release is awesome. The Heads Are Zeros are fronted by the very talented Olivia Henry, and the angst and rage evident in her vocals are palpable. Between her tortured screams and the unique guitar work shredding over the chaotic drums, this is a brutal and mesmerizing release. Stream it at Bandcamp and toss them a few bucks.

Coffin Birth – Necrotic Liquefaction

This is some heinous deathgrind from down under. Pummeling blasts layered with tormented growls and banshee wails whip you with barbed wire dipped in vinegar before leaving your corpse to rot in an alligator feeding pool. Even when the gang slows stuff down (like on “Guilt Ridden Erosion”), they kill it. Check them out on Bandcamp and download the album for any price.

Organ Dealer – Demo 2014

This one needs no more of a recommendation than our good fried Tyree’s seal of approval. “Oh man that’s unrelenting. I approve.” I’m excited to hear what these guys do next. Check out their Bandcamp and pick up the demo for any price.

  • Negrodamus

I wishlisted The Heads Are Zeroes cause it came up in the RHRC, haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet. Will check it out along with the others!

    • W.

      I really like her vokills.

  • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Really digging The Heads Are Zeroes, beauty like a blizzard of razors.

    • Christian Molenaar

J.R. Hayes? When did you get here?

      • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Some years ago a friend and I made plans for a grind/spoken word outfit with me doing poetry about serial killing and wizards and spaceships and whatnot while he noised around, but like most of our brilliant ideas at 2AM it soon crawled back into the smoke.

        • Metaphysical Anus

I probably would have liked it…

        • Cock of Steele

I think you should try it now.

          • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

If not me, then someone else should certainly do it. Might be just crazy enough to work!

        • Christian Molenaar

Please do this as soon as possible.

          • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Unfortunately I don’t live within jamming distance of any of my old friends. But the notion has stayed with me, I’ll figure it out sometime.

          • W.

            Second

      • W.

That’s funny you mention him. I namedrop him in my op ed piece.

        • Christian Molenaar

          Did you already finish it?

          • W.

Yar. Not sure when it’s going up.

    • W.

      It really is fantastic.

  • Tyree

    This post >>>>>>

Some of the most vicious female grind vokills going on in The Heads Are Zeroes. Hope they put out more grind very soon. Coffin Birth just fucking kill it old school style though.

    You’re my boy Dubya!

  • Organ Dealer is pretty sick. So is Coffin birth and heads are zeros which is already on my wishlist.

    • Tyree

Coffin Birth reminds me of Insect Warfare which is never a bad thing!

      • Hmm now i need to check out insect warfare.

        • Tyree
          • Metaphysical Anus

I have a insect warfare/napalm death split album. I got it two years ago when it was record store day.

          • Tyree
          • Metaphysical Anus

Yes, I think it’s that one.

          • Did u hear about the defeated sanity split?

          • Tyree

Nah, I heard that they are working on a new album though.

          • They are doing a split with themselves lol. Prog side/brutal side

          • Tyree

            Awwww. Lolz.

          • Negrodamus

What do you think of that? Part of me thinks it could be amazing, part of me is skeptical.

          • Pretty much my thoughts as well. As long as they don’t make the brutal side just generic bdm it should be good.

          • Howard Dean

Knowing Defeated Sanity, I don’t believe the BDM side will be generic. They’ve never been generic.

I would worry more about the prog side falling flat on its face.

      • Negrodamus

Insect Warfare split up so they could all do other things huh?

  • I’m gonna give the edge to Dakhma in this non-competition.

    • Tyree

They certainly have more of a power Violence vibe to them.

  • Scrimm

This is good stuff. I miss Nasum so much. W, I stumbled across this this morning and thought of our recent conversation about the ocean. Maybe I wouldn’t go down in a cage lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2obQ4kTNcc

    • Metaphysical Anus

Have you ever listened to Rotten Sound? Their vocalist did Nasum’s vocalists part in the reunion.
      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ttdQnPakmPQ

      • Tyree

I was at one of the reunion shows at MDF a few years back. Keijo fuckin killed it as with the band.

      • Scrimm

Yeah awesome band, I have most of their stuff.

      • CyberneticOrganism

I saw Rotten Sound a couple years back, they were absolutely pummeling live.

        • Owlswald

I saw them with Phobia (another awesome grind band) years ago and both were crushing live.

      • Saw Nasum’s farewell tour with him singing, they killed it.

        • Count_Breznak

I saw the original lineup as well as the “farwell” one. Both were great, but the farwell NASUM was missing the trademark “Hello, we are Nasum from Sweden *blasts*” opening. Reenacting the cover of Inhale/Exhale was fucking awesome, no doubts about that. But it just wasn’t the same. And the concert was missing the spinning old dude.

    • That is fucking terrifying. I’m not usually one for being scared of sharks/sealife, but my wetsuit would have a nice helping of turd salad to clean out after that.

      • Scrimm

Lol at turd salad. Working on oceangoing tug boats was a blast but it could be fucking horrifying. I was hanging off the side of the boat one day clearing some shit out of a pipe and a jellyfish got me in the leg. The first thing I though was that a shark had bitten me. It was a good thing I had shot a deuce not long before or I would have had two major problems.

        • I live in Kansas so I didn’t even experience the ocean until I was like 16, and that was just the Gulf of Mexico in Texas. I’m also not the greatest swimmer so that part also terrifies me.

          • Scrimm

I went through some pretty hardcore water survival/rescue training in that job so I had no problem with that part but being in a large body of water and not being able to see what’s in there with me is one of my least favorite things.

          • Howard Dean

“Born and raised right here–no, not here, I mean in Kansas.”

          • Metaphysical Anus
          • Howard Dean

“She was shot five times in the face, New York City. I mean Kansas.”

          • Tyree

Hahaha, I love Christopher Walken so much.

          • Howard Dean

I really liked his character in Joe Dirt. I actually liked Joe Dirt. I know it was almost universally reviled, but I liked it. I thought it was kind of stupid, sure, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a movie that’s supposed to be stupid.

        • W.

I got stung by a jellyfish this summer.

          • Metaphysical Anus

I got stung by a jellyfish when I was on a holiday in Bulgaria. It hurt like hell. Did you remember to pee on your leg?

          • W.

It was actually on my elbow. I just suffered through it.

          • Metaphysical Anus

I had to suffer through it as well. I can’t just start urinating on my leg while I’m on a public beach.

          • Scrimm

The rest of my crew chased me around trying to get me to let them do it. I had to lock myself in the shitter.

          • W.

That’s hilarious. Thankfully, my sting wasn’t bad. Sorry about your bad luck, though.

          • Scrimm

Bah. It’s a fond memory now. Those were great times. My sting wasn’t that bad either, I had coveralls on and only a little got under them. It was the scare that sucked so bad. I really did think it was a shark in the second it happened.

      • W.

        Groce.

    • W.

I’d still do it, yo. The void comes for us all.

      • Scrimm

I say I wouldn’t, but I probably still would. It would be a pretty metal way to go.

  • Metaphysical Anus

Grind is probably my favourite sub-genre in metal.

    • Tyree

      In grind we crust!

      • Metaphysical Anus

This has to be one of my all time grind favorites.
        https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GyrCJRoaY1U

        • Tyree

So good man. That whole album is a crusher. Kevin Sharps higher vokills are disgusting in this song though.

          • Metaphysical Anus

This is my favourite song from the album. I think I might like this a little better than their debut album.

        • Gorgasm

Fuckin A, In was just thinking of these guys too.

    • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

Grind is also a vital part of a balanced breakfast.

      • Metaphysical Anus

I can never start my morning without cereal and grind.

    • Guacamole Jim

      Metaphysical Anus!!

      • Metaphysical Anus

        It is me.

    • W.

Can’t go wrong with the grind.

  • Guacamole Jim

Best way to start off the workday. Thanks, Dubyah! #sackchat

    • Metaphysical Anus

      *tips fedora*

      • Guacamole Jim

I would let that man violate me.

        • Metaphysical Anus

          Who wouldn’t?

          • Not Vincent Bennett

I’m listening to the album that shan’t be named. Did someone use fecal matter to record this? It sounds like someone took a shit than recorded it to a microcassette which has been decaying for the past 20 years. When they transferred this microcassette, did they transfer it to the worst possible digital audio bitrate? This sounds like 4 bit music, if you can even call it music. Who recorded this abomination? Did they have an inanimate object man the mixing booth? Did they have a cup of tea do the mixing in studio to make it sound better? This is the worst live album ever. A bootleg recorded onto a laser rot plagued Laserdisc would sound better than this. What record company would sell this? Was the company ran by a bottle of Miller Lite and a hamster? This is musical hell.

          • Metaphysical Anus

Cleanse your ears bro, cleanse your ears!
            https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AKQKUBrxyBc

          • Not Vincent Bennett

It’s almost over. Thank god this is almost over. Also, that face on the Court of the Crimson King album cover is what my face looks like while listening to the album that shan’t be named.

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

How far into the E****e Challenge are you today?

          • Not Vincent Bennett

I couldn’t do it. I got through four songs and gave up.

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

Hahaha, make a playlist on Spotify, link it, and I’ll see if I can beat that. I have so much paperwork to do this week that I need something to make me angry so I can power through it.

          • W.

            What album?

          • Not Vincent Bennett

A King Crimson live album that shan’t be named.

          • Metaphysical Anus

This thing. It makes me cry.

        • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

          #SMOLGHFAX

          • SMOHLG would still have women flocking to him, even if he wore a fedora.

            *~SMOHLGFAX~*

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

He’s so hot he can cook Hot Pockets just by holding them. #SMOHLGFAX

          • He could eat an entire bag of Funyuns and his girl wouldn’t even complain about his breath when kissing him.

            #SMOHLGFAX

          • CÖÄL RÖLL FRÖM THE TÖILET BÖWL

If he was a taser he’d be set to “Stunning”

            #SMOHLGFAX

        • Justin von Grav

he got fat the old fashioned way, women just feeding him by hand, hendo style

      • Howard Dean

I’ve definitely seen this guy playing Magic: The Gathering and pretending to read Dostoevsky in a coffee shop near me.

    • W.

      I agree. Grind and coffee!

  • Metaphysical Anus

I can never forget this one when talking about grind, even though it isn’t trve grind.
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cstRR3vvxIY

    • frozengoatsheadupanunsarse

      Could make corpses boogie!

  • I’ll bump and grind your mom, Dubya.
    Come at me.

  • Guppusmaximus

I embrace the Grind but I love the Bump as well!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NBOuTJntl8

    • Howard Dean

I’m an unabashed DLR and Van Halen fan. The music is just too fun not to like.

      • Guppusmaximus

Believe me, I’m not ashamed or bashful in the least. Van Halen was great! Though, personally, I think the first two solo albums from DLR are f-ing masterpieces that trump all of VH’s work. Just my .02…

        I abso-fucking-loutley love Big Trouble:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riYO3QGXvIM

        • Howard Dean

          Byyyyaaaaaaahhhhh, my man! Good times!

          • Pierre Generic

            Damn good times.

        • CONAN THE MOTHERFUCKING KING

definitely agree on the first DLR , back to front masterpiece, short memorable songs, loved it. The videos were some of the best ever made as well with all the different characters. ” I’ll have a donut and a bottle of anything, to go” Never forgot that. Skyscraper not so much, i missed sheehans bass and the production seemed a little slick for my tastes. The last solo song i really liked was a little ain’t enough.

          • Guppusmaximus

Had to check… Sheehan is on Skyscraper. I hear what you’re saying about the over-production quality, but, the songs were fricken awesome. Plus, it was still far superior to what VH released in ’88. ‘OU812’ would suggest a possible return to 1984 glory but I didn’t buy it from the get go. Hagar is a great vocalist but even his own material didn’t have that original creative flair like Roth era VH. Don’t get me wrong, I dig Van Hagar’s love rock but it’s just not the same. Let’s not even bother discussing Cherone’s involvement…

  • Gorgasm

I sure do love a lady that’s willing to abrasively abuse their throats with massive amounts of swirling air.

  • FeelTheDarkness

Not Grind at all,it just kicks ass
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fescsIuakZc

  • Dakhma Grind

Thanks a ton for the review! We’re stoked to be mentioned alongside these sick bands. I’ve been jamming Coffin Birth and The Heads are Zeros nonstop lately.

    • Thanks for making the jams! Let us know when you’ve got new stuff coming out so we can cover it!

    • W.

You’re welcome! We’re glad to give you some coverage.

    • Howard Dean

      Byyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

  • I knew about Organ Dealer and Coffin Birth, I’ll have to check out the others later. Grind is my favorite sub genre of metal.
