Flush it Friday: Good Friday? More like… BEST Friday

HOT DAMN, folks. It’s Friday here in the United States and you wanna know why that rules? Because according to Christian tradition, it is Good Friday, the Friday before Easter Sunday. The reason for that designation is [CONSULT BIBLICAL SCRIPTURE AND INSERT REASONING] which means that I don’t have to go to work today. So rather than write and/or edit a full day’s worth of content, I’m gonna drink exactly one beer and mow my lawn until it can’t take any more mowing. But I’m not leaving you folks that gotta work all day empty handed. Feel free to get in here and shitpost the day away. If you need me, I’ll be laid out on my couch with a comically large hat tipped over my face for easy nappin’.

Thank you for your continued support of this particular tech Toilet. We’ll see you tomorrow.

First of all: You’re all welcome for the day off.

The Good:Mrs. Freedom Jew got her collar off yesterday, so I don’t have to do all of the housework anymore. Also, I’m having matzoh pizza for lunch today.

The Bad: My new boss insists that I keep an updated budget, even though all of my costs are fully recoverable from our client and I already keep all of the P&L stuff in the tool that actually does all of that stuff already.

The Ugly: I haven’t pooped in a couple of days. This is going to be a trainwreck when I eventually pass this huge matzoh plug.

  • EsusMoose

Good: worked from home all week
Bad: because of the flu, too many completely different projects I’m learning to be effective, so things have piled up.

next summer my dude will be ready to do that kinda stuff, I’m looking forward to it!

  • You get Good Friday off work!? wtf?

Good: Our new puppy is adorable and cute and so soft and loving.
Bad: Taking care of a puppy is so much fucking work, hooooly balls. My girlfriend has had to work extra this week to make up for the days we took off work so I’ve been a single puppy daddy for a while.
Ugly: Cleaning up puppy piss all over the house, all the time, forever.

    • Yeah man. We got Franklin at 8 weeks. Tiny little puppies are exhausting

      • Yeah, ours is 10 weeks at this point and she’s insane. She’s just constantly exploring the house or attacking our other dog. We finally got a baby gate so we can barricade her in the living room and not have to worry about her peeing in random corners of the house.

        • The toughest part for me was the steady stream of liquid shit he sprayed throughout the house. He had a couple bad parasites.

          • Howard Dean

Man, I don’t think I could deal with liquid puppy shit throughout my house. Like, human baby shit in a diaper or underwear is one thing, and cat shit in a litter box is super easy. But dogs shitting in my house just makes me shudder. Don’t know if I could do that.

          • Freedom Jew

Have you seen Franklin, tho? You’d suck it up and deal with it.

          • Howard Dean

I honestly don’t know if I could–regardless of the pupper’s cuteness. I would be super afraid of the shit-stench getting stuck in the cracks of my floors or ingrained in the wood. [shudder]

          • Wet W’s Whistle

I had some good friends in college whose cats decided one day to start being absolute buttholes and stopped using the litter box. They’d crap and piss in corners and under the beds. The ladies did their best to clean up, but that place just smelled awful when we helped them move out.

          • Howard Dean

Cats are mysterious. They are almost programmed from birth to clean up after themselves and to shit in litter boxes, but they are also kind of temperamental assholes and will change on a whim.

I’ve heard of this happening to people before. If you don’t keep litter boxes clean (i.e. don’t allow it to fill up with buried poop), some cats will get pissed and find new spots to shit.

          • KJM, Doom Scientist

As long as I check it every day, it’s really not a hassle. I only have to fully change the box 2x a month.

          • Howard Dean

            That’s what I do, too.

          • cats are complex machines, and ownership comes with a lot of responsibility (though many seem to think they require little to none). some folks don’t have the patience to deal, and may label them as a nuisance or assholes; but in reality if one tries to listen and interpret, they’re quite communicable. (i see fellow cat owner KJM is weighing in too 😉

          • KJM, Doom Scientist

Luna is the most demanding cat I’ve ever owned. She always wants food, play, or naps. If I’m home, she’s always around me. The average owner would have no patience.

          • Dumpster Lung

My cat is insanely affectionate. Wants to at least be in the same room as me at almost all times, but usually in my lap or within paw’s reach. She also tolerates/likes my ferrets pretty well too.

She’ll put up with damn near anything like a champ. I frequently grab her by the face and kiss her on the nose and if she gets tired of that she just grunts and that’s it 😛

          • ferrets?? awesome! i firmly believe that cats can be turned into social creatures with the proper care.

          • Dumpster Lung

Ferrets are awesome, but holy shit they are the most work ever. But yeah, my cat was already very affectionate when I got her, but now she’s extremely fond of people and does not like other cats. Still likes the ferrets well enough, though. I’ll have to upload a pic soon. I would say I need to upload more shit to FB, since my ex always uploaded those kinds of pics before, and I have next to nothing on mine, but you’re not on there anymore 😛

          • more beer

I have a Ferret story for you. I was at my friends house staying over with my girl at that time. They let the Ferret just run around the house, like a free range ferret. I didn’t know that little bastard was in the room my lady and I were staying in. While we were getting it on, that little fucker clamped down on my big toe, like a Pit Bull. Needless to say it kind of ruined the mood. As I had to stop the bleeding from my toe.

          • Dumpster Lung

Yikes! That sucks lol. Mine never bit anyone, but my youngest one used to nip my cat’s foot if he thought the cat wasn’t paying enough attention to him, then he’d go over and try lick the cat to make up for it hahaha.

He hasn’t done that in a while fortunately. Kind of a dick move, and not a good way to endear the cat to him either.

          • more beer

It hurt like a son of bitch too. Lets just say I wasn’t to fond of that Ferret after that.

          • more beer

Mine is very easy food, water, a place to shit let him in or out. Once a while he wants to be petted. Mostly he just wants to go out and fight with the neighbors cat.

          • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Its understandable that cats do that. If your had to poop but the toilet (ov hell) was backed up and completely smeared with shit, you’d look for somewhere else to do your business

          • Howard Dean

Yeah, I’m totally not faulting them for that. I’d do the same thing.

          • fun fact: cat urine contains a bacteria that travels up to six feet in every direction (even through concrete foundation). so a person can clean the carpet all day long, but that stuff is buried deep and will re-surface when it’s particularly humid.

          • Joaquin Stick

And will get you high as fuck, if South Park’s science is correct.

          • their science game has been on point: whether it’s hippies & death metal or Cherokee hair tampons, i trust ’em.

          • Wet W’s Whistle

Yah, this actually used to happen at my parents’ house growing up. Every now and then you’d get a whiff of cat piss despite my folks tearing up the carpet and concrete and installing new concrete and tile floors.

          • Dumpster Lung

            Holy shit that is insane.

          • Shakes 999

Yep. My ex’s cat fucking pissed on everything, including my Dewalt bag I used for work. That fucking smell never goes away.

          • Elegant Gazing Globe

last summer when I took the EGG fam on vacation my parents stopped in for a day and brought their dog to the beach where it gulped a bunch of ocean water when they took it for a walk, and when they got back the thing sprayed piss out it’s ass all over the rental house, every step it took, squirt squirt. He got tossed out fast, but fuck did it suck to have to clean that up

Good: Crossed Absurd (1981) off the Video Nasties list last night. Pretty basic and suffers from dull patches but has some effective nastiness, a tense and creepy climax and a fine, imposing killer in George Eastman. My current read, The Children Triumphant, by Phyllis Paul, has excellent spells that make me heartily wish to keep reading her, satisfying my desire to become expert in a literary niche (not just a pretentious thing, I get bummed out by the impossibility of ever knowing that much about most genres or periods). My current listening has been mostly Akercocke, A Forest of Stars and 1349. These are all bands that please me in a fundamental way. Work is inching back to regular business, which is good as all the mostly mindless physical labour was getting a little old.

Bad: Current events at large, and personally, seemingly inescapable existential anxiety.

  • The Mighty Thorange

Good: The pub I am regular at organised a business trip to the local brewery and I was invited along. It involved “sampling” their new beers straight from the tanks. The manager then took us to the pub they had just opened where we had more beer. The best thing was that because it was a promotional event for the brewery, they paid for everything and I therefore got very drunk after some very good beer. I have organised a gig for next week for my Celtic folk metal university project to play a gig in the local museum as part of a promotional event for their new Celtic and Pictish Iron Age exhibit. I finished a Dungeons and Dragons campaign yesterday.
Bad: Cracked my phone screen and broke the touch screen sensor so I had to pay more money than I comfortable with to fix it.
    Ugly: Dissertation.

    • Dumpster Lung

I’ve never been a part of a DnD campaign that actually got finished, but love playing.

      • The Mighty Thorange

I was surprised when we found out we could end it. Was quite excited about that fact. It was also a hard fought finale. We managed to kill the evil dragon that was going to cause Armageddon when suddenly our chaotic evil warlock revealed that he was working for the dragon all along, absorbed it’s soul and we had to fight him. Good thing I just received a magic sword that does 2 D8 worth of damage, with +2 to attack and an extra bonus attack. In short, it was a fucking awesome end to a fucking awesome campaign.

        • Dumpster Lung

Oh wow, that’s awesome. Were you guys playing a pre-made module sort of thing or just a story the DM came up with? That’s really cool either way. I’ve only played one of those pre-made ones, but the group kinda disbanded early on.

I’m in a campaign right now, but it’s been hard getting everyone to meet on the same day.

          • The Mighty Thorange

It started out pre-made but the DM puts loads of his own stuff in there. Like the sword and his characters sudden but inevitable betrayal.

          • Dumpster Lung

Oh so it was like an NPC ally he was playing, or did another player just work that out with him on the side? That’s pretty awesome though.

Probably the best of both worlds that way. You get the definite structure and arc of a pre-made campaign, but enough other shit going on to keep things fresh and also not be able to be spoiled by someone else looking up the name of the campaign or something online.

          • The Mighty Thorange

Exactly. Our current DM started out as another player in our party but our DM at the time had to step down because of stuff in real life getting in the way and he couldn’t devote his time to running an entire campaign so our current one stepped up to the task while working out what he was going to do with his character. And he stepped up magnificently.

          • Dumpster Lung

Oh man, the story gets even cooler hahaha. The fact that the campaign even survived the loss of the original DM is great.

Puts any of the campaigns I’ve been a part of to shame. Always something that kills it off halfway through, or even earlier. It’s largely the same general group though, so obviously we know it’s just the way everyone operates 😛

          • The Mighty Thorange

This was actually the first D&D campaign I have played in years. Tried 4ed back in high school and didn’t get into but I tried 5ed a few months ago and fucking loved it and have been playing this one campaign since.

          • Dumpster Lung

Seriously, man! I got into it with 3.0/3.5 (not that I was into it that long ago, but that’s just the books my friends had a few years ago when I played for the first time). I got hooked on all that, and even enjoyed all the charts and bullshit involved. Never tried 4e, but from what I read about it, I wouldn’t have liked it so much.

The 2nd to last campaign I played was 5e though, and man did that feel like a revelation. I really didn’t miss much from 3.5 at all, and character creation is 10,000x better too. I love how all the classes actually have branching paths so you’ve got a lot of flexibility within all of them (also, no more bullshit classes with 0 real features anymore). The advantage/disadvantage thing is probably the coolest, though. That and getting rid of skill points.

Loooooove that shit so much haha. I’m playing 3.5 again now, and I still like it, but I do miss the streamlined feel of 5 for sure.

          • The Mighty Thorange

I agree. They have gotten rid of most of the useless clutter and the combat system is a joy to work with. And they seem to have put increased emphasis on the actual role playing elements which is great.

          • Dumpster Lung

I haven’t tried dual wielding (I’ve barely tried anything in 5e, since I only played a couple months of a single campaign, and it was my first and only attempt at a purely melee character so far), but even just being a basic Barbarian was very interesting.

Dual wielding in 3.5 is rough. A lot of things are, but that especially. You have to take a lot of feats for it to be a viable option. That’s another cool thing, actually. Maybe this is the other best thing about 5. . .you can actually do things without needing 3 fucking feats first. Feels like your character can’t wipe their own ass in 3.5 without a feat that itself has 2 other prerequisites 😛 In 5, feats themselves are completely optional since things are so much better well rounded. I really did get an instant 5e boner in the very short time I played. Dying to play that edition again hahaha

          • Dumpster Lung

Speaking of all this stuff. FUCK. I’ve been out of town the last 2 weekends, then before that we had someone else out of town. Then I just realized I committed to a family thing this upcoming Sunday without remembering it was DnD day (because it’s been so long since we played). Agh. . . .looks like I’m sabotaging this one 🙁

          • The Mighty Thorange

It can be awkward to find time sometimes. I can be okay because it’s once a week in the evenings and the only other responsiblity I have right now is university coursework which I can be relatively flexible with.

          • Dumpster Lung

Yeah we used to do weeknight evenings, but this group recently has been Sundays at around 1:00. You’d think that’d be the easiest day, but not lately 😛

      • The Mighty Thorange

Oh fuck yes! Never got round to playing most of those but kept meaning to. I did get the Enhanced Edition of Baldurs Gate 1 a while back and it was excellent. JJD–Not trying to be an ass, but at your age just walking 5 miles shouldn’t hurt. That may be a sign that it’s time to get a bit more active. Most healthy adults should be able to walk 5+ miles continuously without much trouble.

Walking is a great low impact way to exercise. You should start trying to mix in 4-5 miles walks as exercise a few days a week. It’s great because you can just chill out and listen to music when you do it, plus it doesn’t do as much damage on your joints as running. Once you get a bit of stamina and strength in your legs, you can tackle hikes (which are much more fun).

Hero is my most listened to album this year, and if I had to remake my 2016 top 10 list, it would be a top 5 album easily. I was the same way–kinda disappointed with it at first. But I waited a month or two and replayed it, and was like “wow, this fucker is awesome!” Now I love it. Really good album, huge sound. Triumphant as fuck, too.

      • RJA

Exactly! Huge sound – when I got the record home and played it on some ” fuck off” speakers, it sounded amazing

Eh, it’s a pretty good Friday, I guess.

Don’t worry, I’ll be celebrating the Pagan goddess of fertility–ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

    (aaayyyyyy)

Jesus said “Sit at my right hand and help me smoke this shit”.

Cola and Underpants? That’s high consuming, indeed.

(granted, it’s still not The Daiso: http://www.daisocanada.com/ )

This Friday marks the beginning of a two week spring holiday for me, which makes it even better, even it it will be followed by two weeks of semestrial exams

    Great:
    – TovH publishing a thing I wrote
    – My shirt came in the mail yesterday
    – Excellent weather

    Okay:
    – I have at least two days of work ahead this weekend to prep a near-draft proof of progress package for my thesis work because…
    – I have to convince my supervisor to sign off on another extension before the last Friday this month (I am currently optimistic though)

    Ugly:
    – Current state of international relations. Full stop. Seriously. Stop.

    Metal: (released today!)

Good: Took vacation days today and yesterday for the first time in ages, and it’s been beautiful out.
Bad: Had to pay my taxes this week
Ugly: Will probably die in the woods while camping. Further updates pending

  • KJM, Doom Scientist

Good: I made it to 50
    Bad: I’m freakin’ 50.

Nice. I am gonna do a couple of dabs. I hope you had a good day. I had a raging party for my 50th.

          • KJM, Doom Scientist

I used to have huge parties for my birthday. We once packed about 125 people into a 3 bedroom apartment for one of my parties.
This year, it’s just me, Luna, & Mom.

I figured I out lived everyone’s expectations. Since I was always pretty wild. So I should have a hell of a party.

          • KJM, Doom Scientist

            Best reason of all.

That’s what I thought. Did you check out that link I sent you the other night?

            Yep, the Cannabis Church.

Good: We’ll be celebrating my birthday this weekend. It was actually 10 days ago but my parents had to be out of town, so we’ve delayed it – which means we’ll be celebrating it over Easter…which means birthday cake AND easter eggs for me. I think I might request a chocolate easter egg dipped in chocolate cake. As a present I’ll also be getting Volume 2 of Decibel Magazine’s “Hall of Fame” Precious Metal compendium, which I intend to review for the Toilet.

Bad: Good Friday was VERY fucking boring. At least I got the shower cleaned, which I’d really been meaning to do for a while. But, although all the restaurants were open at night, the pubs were all closed. Unbelieveable. I went out for fries, and then wandered around with a parched, salty throat looking for beer. (I did eventually find it at a pool hall; but man was it distressing.)

The more I listen, the more I like.
