Flush It Friday: Board Up Your Windows

Howdy friends, and welcome to Friday afternoon.

As you’re reading this, I’ve ducked out of work a bit early to pick up food and bottled water. It appears that a massive death storm is about to wreck the sweet fuck out of Texas so I’d like to be prepared. My lady’s family evacuated their homes along the coast and they’re staying with us. I’m hoping that my house doesn’t flood/get destroyed by a tree/lose power/run out of booze. I’m sending good vibes to all South Texas flushers. Be safe, y’all.

The floor is yours. Thank you for your continued support of this e-Shitter. We’ll see you tomorrow (provided we’re still here).

GOOD: I saw Bolzer last night, and they were fucking amazing. Probably the best live metal show I’ve ever seen. Those two dudes just blow it out of the water. The amount of sound they can create is amazing. Fabian the drummer just pounds the drums like a fucking Cro-Magnon and Okoi is a literal wizard on his billion-string guitar. They played 11 tracks in a little over an hour (stuff from Hero, Aura, and Roman Acupuncture), with probably 45 seconds of pause between the tracks—IN TOTAL. Just nonstop, relentless playing. Amazing stuff, my friends. I almost never go to shows (been to like 3 in 5 years), but my fuck that one was worth it. Whammy.

    BAD/UGLY: Nothing.

    • Dubby Fresh

I always enjoy it when bands just RIP through a set!

      • Howard Dean

They were insane. They paused briefly between like the 3rd and 4th song to signal that they needed more water (understandable since it was like 85 degrees in the place and they were just wailing on it), then they paused a couple songs later for ~20 seconds to drink said water and wipe their faces. And then BOOM! they finish and just say “Goodnight, thank you!”

They’re touring with the Swedish industrial/ambient/electronic artist Trepaneringsritualen. Totally different vibe from Bolzer, but it was cool to experience. He’s very much a performance art/snuff film soundtrack type of guy. He’s an… interesting dude. Hahaha. Totally a case of mild-mannered off the stage and just total madman on it.

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Now I feel the need to jam Aura again. I stand by my statement it’s the greatest metal EP of the 2000’s.

      • Howard Dean

Yeah, I would probably agree with that (though I’m equally partial to a few others, especially one or two by Deathspell Omega).

I really love all of Bolzer’s material, so it was great to see them play a wide variety of stuff (hell, they played the entire demo!). I’d like to hear “Steppes” or “The Great Unifier” live.

It would be sweet to see them play their entire discography live. Wouldn’t be too much more than a normal set (basically 3-4 more tracks, albeit a couple longer ones like “Labyrinthian Graves”). Though with how fast and intense they play, I dunno if they could make it through everything, haha.

    • CT-12

Saw them about two or so years back, super fun show. I’d love to see some of the new stuff live. On a side note, your infrequent show attendance is something I should take up; been burning myself out on live shows, to the point of where a lot of the magic is lost for me, and it eats up cash.

      • Howard Dean

Yeah, the stuff from Hero sounded great (well, everything did, really).

After being turned off by Hero the first time I heard it, it’s come to be probably my favorite album that was released last year (and definitely my most listened to album from the past year+). Magical shit. They hit it out of the park.

        • CT-12

Agreed. Not my absolute favorite of last year, but definitely in the top 10. Thoroughly satisfied.

  • Dubby Fresh
  • I’m working Fri/Sat/Sun nights, but today has been all about Paul McCartney’s Ram album, FF9, and ketchup chips. Also might pick up the new Tera Melos and Inanimate Existence albums to listen to at the gym tomorrow morning. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/74220e943295300638c0888b5b0cd7a844f87a79a325a87062efd9baa43495f7.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6a552c5c4b3b02333f57667ba00ff2d39d6583449deae0bbced7d14f68464d01.png https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/32fe69e0f61114aa0d710bbcbb3c546501c65057335de90e7027f8d70760d761.jpg

  • Brock Samson

Good: Finished my first week of graduate school

Bad: The amount of homework I already have

Ugly: not being able to go to shows because of home work

    • Howard Dean

You’ll be able to figure out the social life + graduate school schedule (meaning don’t write off going to shows or going out with friends). Totally doable.

  • Jeff Manteiga

Good: About to not embark on a staycation that will be ten glorious days long.

Bad/Ugly: Can’t find much to say, besides that it’s maybe considered ugly how many times I’ve listened to Cormorant’s “Diaspora” album since it came out like 2 weeks ago.

    Stay safe people!

  • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Good: adjusting to home life. While I’m only a semi frequent participator here, I’ve been especially sparse this summer mainly cause I spent all of it in the hospital.

Bad: I’m so behind on summer releases it’s gonna take forever to go through what I missed and find what I dig.

    Ugly: thousands of daily meds

    • Jeff Manteiga

Glad you’re out of there, sounds like it was pretty serious whatever it was…if you’re looking for some suggestions for new releases, I’m happy to supply a few!

      • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Thanks man! I was at crossfit and after a workout my leg started going numb. We got to the emergency room, I get put out and wake up a week later. Turns out I had an aortic dissection which is like 1 percent survival rate and is considered a catastrophic event.

        • JESUS CHRIST, MAN. 1%??? Glad you are OK. Holy fuck!

          You doing better then??

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Yeah doctors expect a full recovery! I currently can’t really walk without a walker, but that should change. And they replaced all my arteries and rebuilt my connective tissue so I’m basically bionic. Recovery is a long hard road but I’m grateful to be on it.

          • Damn, bud. I am glad you are doing OK. Sounds fucking intense. How long where you in the hospital?? My wife is a operating room nurse, she is intrigued. ..

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Haha not the first nurse friend or aquaintence that is intrigued! I was in there for 8 weeks. 4 in critical care. 2 in cardiac telemetry and 2 in acute rehab. To save the leg they had to slice 4 fasciotomies into it which is a slow healing process. My entire aorta tore as well for her info. Oddly I experienced no chest pain so I was very surprised when they pulled me out of the coma

          • Glad you are well. Crazy experience!

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

            Thanks GL! Crazy experience indeed

          • more beer

Damn that’s brutal glad your okay.

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Thanks dude! There was definitely some brutality involved haha

          • more beer

I have had a couple of surgeries, nothing as intense as that. Doctors aren’t as tender and gentle as people would like to believe.

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Defintely! I was really fortunate with my doctors in this scenario. They did really good work. The head surgeon that guided the whole process even gave me beer when I woke up. I did have a few nurses that were less than gentle though….which is a problem when you’re in a bedpanovhell type situation

          • more beer

I wasn’t meaning the doctors weren’t good. Just they take stuff out they stuff things in. Nurses can certainly be the most brutal. Since they are dealing with patients for a much longer period of time.

        • KJM, Anla’Shok

          Damn, you got lucky.

        • GoatForest

Shiiiit. That is both the luckiest and unluckiest thing I have ever heard. Somebody down There likes you…

        • Dubby Fresh

          Holy hell. Glad you survived

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

Thanks man! Defintely an unexpected plot twist this summer

        • holy f**k, glad you’re still with us!

          • The Tetrachord of Archytas

            Thanks man!

  • Taylor

bad: I’m heavily sleep deprived and have got a whole weekend of work ahead of me.

Ugly: my parents put down the dog I’ve had since I was ten. It really fucking sucks. RIP https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/64be7bde95cefbdeb0102b741a9d610cbb0664d642f7fcbed76ebdbfe33b4f60.png

    • Jeff Manteiga

I’m sorry to hear about your dog, that’s always a very difficult situation Try to keep your chin up! RIP.

    • FrankWhiteKingOfNY

Sorry to hear about your dog, dude.

    • 🙁

    • That sure is a beautiful shepherd. Sorry for your lose.

    • KJM, Anla’Shok

      I’m sorry. : (

    • more beer

We had to put 2 German Shepard’s down in one year they were brother and sister. My sympathies that is always a sad thing..

  • sweetooth0

GOOD: Buddy from an Edmonton band called Gizzard is in town this weekend and he’s crashing at our pad, likelihood of partying is high. There’s a wicked Doom/Sludge/Grind gig on Saturday with Regress/Chronobot/Mechanical Separation and Dour returning from their cross Canada tour. Should be a rager. I’m nearing the end of the back breaking part of my back yard reno.

BAD: This weekend I have to move a bunch of my sisters shit that she just left at my house out from beside the house and peel up the 10 non-broken patio stones back there to move into the back yard with the 39 I’ve already put in. There is literally no way to lift/place those without using your lower back.

I ordered a swimsuit for Shannon from Speed Clothes and they sent the wrong size, they say I’m good to return it but I have to use the returns form thing on their website which will not work, now they won’t answer my emails. Getting ready to put them on blast on a public Facebook post if they don’t respond today.

UGLY: Likely how I am going to be feeling on Sunday morning after all of that.

    • Howard Dean

Backbreaking work + summer heat + copious amounts of alcohol + abbreviated sleep = one helluva hangover.

      • sweetooth0

Yep, but I’m a sucker for punishment, ha ha!

  • tigeraid

    Be safe, Texas Toileteers.

The Good: Finally did the major repairs on the shop’s roof at The Ranch, and can proceed to wiring and insulation.

The Bad: For some reason, it’s winter here now.

    The Ugly: Trump.

  • FrankWhiteKingOfNY
  • JWG

G: I’m not going to be swept away in a hurricane.

B: I’ve been way ill for the last week so I basically wiped out what was left of my paid sick leave for 2017.

U: Can’t think of one, may update later.

    Tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjLFojk87Hs

  • Elmo

    GOOD: ELMO ALIVE AND HAPPY!!!

BAD: BERT GOT BANNED FROM METALSUCKS (MUST HAVE SAID A SWEAR).

    UGLY: METALSUCKS.

    • Bert

Hey Elmo. It wasn’t a swear (I’m a good boy). Metalsucks are openly oppressing freedom of speech.

  • Al Bvndy

I also want to extend my well wishes to y’all in Texas. Stay safe!

Good: Seeing Cryptopsy play None So Vile & being blown away by the awe inspiringly named support band, Foetal Juice.

Bad: The guilt I felt talking smack about The Cryptopsy singer before hand. Not only did he rule, he’s also a sound dude – chating to everyone before and after the gig.

Ugly: EDL scum marching near me tomorrow. I’m hoping recent events doesn’t inspire these clowns to do something stupid…

    • Jeff Manteiga

      dat band name lol

    • more beer

That guy singing for Cryptopsy did a great job. I saw them doing None So Vile with Vlad Putin a couple of months ago. A much better show than the other option in town that night Metallica.

      • Al Bvndy

And also many dollars cheaper I bet! Club shows always kick ass compared to a souless arena or stadium ( unless you’re watching AC/DC or Maiden).

        • more beer

Much cheaper and there were really bad storms here that night, Metallica had a delay due to lightening and everyone there got soaking wet. We made the right choice. All of the shows I have gone to my whole life, very few have been in big arenas.

  • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Good: Finally finished pulling out all the weeds in my front and back yard

Bad: The hurricane will bring a lot of rain, which means that in a couple of weeks the weeds will be back. Also, not a single physical copy of the new Akercocke album to be found in El Paso

Ugly: The fucking hurricane. Be safe, Joe and the rest of the Texas Toilet gang

    • more beer

Goat heads are a bitch. We have them here as well I treat them with Agent Orange levels of Roundup. The other weeds aren’t shit compared to those thing.

      • TheGranulatingDarkSatanicMilfs

Yes, the fucking thorns on those things can pierce everything. Fortunately, since it has been raining a lot, the water made them really soft so they were real easy to remove this time

        • more beer

They are fucking brutal like a medieval torture device.

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

Good: saw Marshall Tucker Band and they were amazing, deep fried Oreos

    Bad: none

Ugly: My love life. I’m about to completely give up on it

    • KJM, Anla’Shok

Rick has some advice for you.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgAL4L1sXtg

      • Janitor Jim Duggan

Its not as simple at that for once. My friend/longtime crush is getting married. Days like this drive me closer to the bottle.

        • KJM, Anla’Shok

The advice still applies. Also, don’t get too drunk.

          • Depechemodeisgangsta

Just started watching this show, Awesome stuff.

          • KJM, Anla’Shok

            I love it, hilarious.

        • Depechemodeisgangsta

That kind of things always happen to everyone, like KJM said hang in there, there’s always someone out, don’t get too hang up on friend, if she is moving on, so can you.

          • Janitor Jim Duggan

It’s going to be hard but I have to move on and be happy for her. I’ve been told so many times that my day will come. I don’t believe that anymore. It hurts so much.

  • Elegant Gazing Globe

Got a sweet sinus cold and sore throat right as I’m about to go on vacation

    Bad: Parking sucks.
Metal: The landlords name literally translates to “Impaler”

      • The Mighty Thorange

    • Hans

Trying to think what his name might be. Spießer? Pfähler? Piekser? Stecher?

      • Count_Breznak

The most metal one of your guesses.

  • Lord of Bork

Good: Moved up from a cubicle to an office with a motherfuckin’ door. Also, Blind Guardian.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FE8EyKpyodw

No bads or uglies this week.

    • The Mighty Thorange

Blind Guardian are motherfucking gods! Also congratulations on moving to an office.

  • Brutalist_Receptacle

GOOD: Mrs Receptacle and I used “Rock You Like a Hurricane” instead of the Bridal March at our nuptials.
BAD: We live near Houston and are gonna be rained on for a week. Hopefully no trees go down, because losing electricity is the worst. The Gulf Coast is going to be reconfigured.
UGLY Forgot mixers for the Hurricane Party. Straight alcohol it is.

  • nbm02ss

I hope no one reading is caught in the path of the hurricane, but if they are, I hope everyone gets out safe and unharmed.

    Good: New Oxbow :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcx4DAiqiCA

Bad: Can’t think of anything worse than the hurricane currently.

Ugly: The idea of Trump being POTUS during a mega disaster. Oh, and the boxing match tomorrow night. Fuck watchin that shiznit. Floyd isn’t conning me into devoting attention to him again.

    • Al Bvndy

Dave Chappelle summed it up when he said “Floyd Mayweather is probably training as we speak. And as he’s training, do you know what Conor McGregor is doing? Learning how to box.”

  • The Mighty Thorange

GOOD: Finally fucking finished that re-sit. Still don’t know if I passed but it’s done so I don’t care. Went to a historical re-enactment combat training event. Spent 5 hours beating the out people with training swords and axes. It was good fucking fun.
BAD: Bruised and sore as fuck but can’t complain about much else.
    UGLY: Still broke as fuck

  • The Mighty Thorange

GOOD: Finally finished my fucking university re-sit. Such a fucking relief to have finally got it done and I can finally say I have finished my life as a student. The historical re-enactment group I joined recently was doing a medieval combat training session at the weekend. Spent 5 hours beating the shit out of folk with a training sword. Fun times.
BAD: Sore and bruised as fuck from being hit with training weapons wielded by people with a lot more experience than me but can’t really complain.
    UGLY: Still broke as fuck.

Good: Started a new job last week which no longer has me in an office. Great place, smart people, good times.

Bad: New job that isn’t in an office anymore leaves me little time for music research. Will readjust.

Ugly: got hit in the eye with a branch Thursday week ago. Had a pretty bad corneal abrasion, ended up in A&E, vision still fucked up, can’t surf, giving me the shits.

Hope all Texas folk are doing ok.
