Crusty d-beat from Chicago to your earbuttz.

Over the last year and a half, Nequient has been making racket in the Midwest. Infinite Regress, the latest EP from this Chicago 5-piece, is here for your listening/hatemoshing pleasure. Recorded with Pete Grossmann (Weekend Nachos, Veil of Maya, Jar’d Loose) at Bricktop and featuring art by Mike G. Miller (Bongripper, Sick/Tired, The Muzzler), Infinite Regress is 6 tracks of harder-than-fuck crusty d-beat.

The first half of Infinite Regress is a whiplash of speed and brutality. The second half will thrill you with the unexpected. “Dismember the Demagogue” is a sludge-y affair, powered by mortar shell low end. “BIP” fires off a completely unexpected and wild guitar solo, and “Obsidian Affair” seems to dabble with an almost black metal sound with vocals varying from a hardcore bark, disgusting gutturals, and a blackened shriek. Check it all out below and tell me what you think.

Infinite Regress is out September 4th. Go like Nequient on Facebook to stay up to date with their comings-and-goings. And if you’re in the Chicago area, go check out Nequient’s release show with Fuck The Facts. It looks to be a heckin’ good time.

A four-piece, but there’s five dudes in the picture? I’m assuming the dude on the far right just showed up by accident?

    • “This isn’t a starbucks…”

    • Not sure what you’re talking about. I certainly don’t put together posts while drinking.

The Unspoken King. That could either be a song/album title or a band name.

          • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

It is an album. A horrible album.

          • KJM

    • Lacertilinger

      Tyree tick of approval

  • Savage shit. Thanks for the share Poppa Joe Mosh’n’Trill

  • Reminds me of Trap Them’s d-beat portions and there’s nothing wrong with that.

  • Dagon

Crusty D-Beat in Portuguese is: “Psiu, ei. Renan! Ouve isso aqui cara, vai bater uma onda forte.”

  • Guppusmaximus

Now this is the real D-Beat – two counts of the bass drum on measures 2 & 4. It makes it all so much more dance-able while I punch my sister

    • Dagon

See: below. I just punched mine bro

      • Guppusmaximus

        *FistBump*

        What’s the point in having a sister…amirite?

        • Janitor Jim Duggan

I have a sister. I don’t punch her because hitting women is bad.

          • Guppusmaximus

            Yea…I lied. I don’t have a sister. I’m pretty sure it’s just a saying…if I remember correctly:P

    • The Haunting Presence of Tyree
      • Guppusmaximus

I like when they juxtapose a singular downbeat (bass drum) every so often in between the d-beat. Some of the real crafty motherfuckers knew how to draw or delay that shit where the beat played on the bass drum had more oomph and actually created a groove where the blast beat couldn’t. Am I disturbed to remember this shit or what? It also gave you a better rhythm to punch your sister with…lol.

        • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

Yup. I do that to every once in awhile to save energy. Playing doubles consistently fast can really burn the front of your shin. So I’ll remove a hit and add that delay for some dynamic. The best D-beat drummer I’ve ever witnessed is the drummer from Baptists. That motherfucker can go hard.

          • Nick is a beast. I need to see Baptists next time they come through my area.

          • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

I’m not much for their music (Bit too hardcore). But, their drummer is certainly damn good. No denying that.

    • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

      Skitsystem did it to perfection.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk2-Gj4JAnk

      • Guppusmaximus

        Yup… that’s fucking rad!

        • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

Thomas Lindberg and Adrian Erlandsson’s little side project. Heard the band is back together again. I don’t think it’s with those 2 any more though.

          • Guppusmaximus

            Fucking Crust FTW!!

          • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

There were a couple years there where that was all I studied. I have not been following the crust/punk scene for quite some time now. I kinda just go to the essential bands any more. Skitsystem, Mob 47, Nausea, Discharge, Doom, and so on and so on.

          • Guppusmaximus

I started getting into it more on the back end of the 90s punk scene but because I didn’t network like I used to I probably missed out on a bunch of cool shit. I just love when bands fuse Grind w/ Crusty D-Beat. ‘Harmony Corruption’ started my love affair but then Napalm got all genericore and shit. Ironchrist was probably the last band I remember that had a killer crust influence. I’ll have to check out those bands you mentioned.

          • The Haunting Presence of Tyree

Yeah, Extreme Noise Terror, Disclose, Wolfbrigade, Aus Rotten, Extinction of Mandkind… The list goes on.

And yes. Napalm does nothing for me any more.

          • sweetooth0

Add Anti-Cimex and Driller Killer to that there list.

          • CT-12

Finally got a new MP3 player so I could listen to that Ironchrist album today, and it ruled! Can’t believe that weird chirping rhythm that drummer plays on his ride! Weird shit, but very cool. Thanks for the rec!

          • Guppusmaximus

You won’t find anything else like it ever and that album came out in the late 80s. They took crossover to a whole new level and covered ground that wasn’t very popular back then. Their drummer, to me, sounded like he had some jazz influences. Those d-beats were fast & tight as fuck. Overall they had such a legit hardcore punk sound especially the singer which you don’t hear anymore, imho. Plus, they weren’t using any computer magic. What you hearing is raw talent. I’m glad you dig it…

          • Dave Vincent’s Perm

They’re only generic because they effectively invented the genre.

  • Vote for Jeb

Hot Dad! This is rockin’ my office right now!

  • This sounds grody and nasty AF. Songs are decent so I like it.

  • Paddlin’ Rites ov Beargod

    Is rad. Did mosh.

  • Janitor Jim Duggan

Motorhead released a new track. It’s their cover of Sympathy For The Devil.
